Push In - The CineVic Podcast

S2E9 - Creators of the World w/ Nicholas Riini

CineVic Society of Independent Filmmakers Season 2 Episode 9

What do Evil Dead, King Kong, Power of the Dog and the CineVic Short Circuit Pacific Rim Film Festival have in common?

Allow us to introduce Maori filmmaker Nicholas Riini (Ngai Tuhoe) of Aotearoa (New Zealand).

Connecting with the elemental world of his ancestors, Nicholas’ film A Morning With Aroha combines  creativity and imagination for a show not to be missed.

How did Nicholas put his 20+ years of experience in technical departments (gaffer/lighting/rigging) for top films to use? Leading the production for this independent short and hiring an almost entirely local, indigenous film crew made creating A Morning With Aroha even more rewarding.

How do you deal with bullies at school when they don’t understand you as a person?

What’s the real-world story behind the theme of Nick’s latest film?

And how do you shoot a film when your young lead actor has bored of you by the time the camera rolls?

Tune in with host Joyce Kline to find out this and more on the latest episode of Push In, The CineVic Podcast.

And be sure to watch the Nicholas’ film A Morning With Aroha in-person at CineVic’s Short Circuit Pacific Rim Film Festival on Saturday May 7th, 2022 in beautiful downtown Victoria, BC.

Fun fact:
One of our show’s producers recently discovered that the locally crafted Spinnakers Black Cherry Sparkling water served at The Vic Theatre along with a fresh bag of popcorn tastes just like Cherry Blasters candy. Just one more nostalgic reason to join in on the fun of the festival in-person.
