Hello Everyone, Rakesh from Lets talk clarity, today I want to share a story which I read in a famous book. Name of the book, I will share in the end.

The story goes like this -  I am from Rajasthan and we love stories from Deserts. SO this desert was 500 miles long in a single stretch. It was difficult to cross, as we had to carry food, water on this long stretch of 500 miles. Many people lost their way in sand storms at night and never returned.

The french found a unique way to cross this desert and placed drums / barrels after every 2 miles. So that any traveller can airm for the next barrel and avoid missing the path. But why 2 miles, because any traveller can see 2 barrels at a time, one that is behind and the one which is ahead on the path.

And the mantra was to focus on the next barrel and don't think much about the whole 500 miles desert. Focus on the next barrel, focus on the next milestone.

The same approach can be applied to any big project or task. Break it into smaller milestones or barrels and focus on the next barrel.

You can accomplish the biggest task in your life by focusing on taking it just one step at a time.

Yes one step at a time, one barrel at a time. And you can cross any desert.

For me releasing this podcast every week is a barrel.

For toastmaster speakers, giving the next speech is a barrel. For youtubers, publishing the next video is a barrel.

For caravan talk, one talk at a time.

For civil engineers, concreting the next slab is a barrel.

For climbing mount everest, one step at a time.

By this visualisation, you are taking your eyes of the whole desert or project into smaller doable tasks. Which helps in avoiding procrastination and overwhelm, which give us focus on the one task.

So whenever, you are finding it difficult to focus on doing something , remember what is your next barrel.

This story is from a famous book by Brian Tracy, Eat that frog. I recommended this book to everyone to read minimum 5-10 times, yes 5-10 times, it is about managing time and avoiding procrastination, it is a very thin book 21 chapters of 2-3 pages each, I was keeping this book for nearly 3 months on my bedside table and reading a chapter each day and implementing that tool the next day on a daily routine. Remember to create more than consume and always focus on your next barrel.
