Sales tax revenues up across the Rio Grande Valley

Every month, Matt Ruszczak, executive director of Rio South Texas Economic Council, takes a look at the latest sales tax revenue reports issued by the Comptroller's Office. In this month's interview with reporter Steve Taylor, Ruszczak looks at sales tax revenues for April, 2019, for March and April, 2019, combined, and for the year-to-date. The reason for discussing March and April together is that this year, the Easter holiday period was in April whereas in 2018 it was in March. Combining the two months makes for a more accurate comparison with 2018, Ruszczak says. Overall, cities in the Rio Grande Valley are doing well, as compared to 2018 and in comparison to other parts of Texas, Ruszczak reports.
