Misogyny is hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against women or girls. It is a form of sexism that can keep women at a lower social status than men, thus maintaining male supremacy.  Misogyny has been widely practiced for thousands of years.

God dislikes misogyny, evidenced by the misdeeds of David told in 2nd Samuel 11 and 12.   As his army was engaged in battle King David stayed behind, a top his roof he observed Bathsheba the lovey wife of Uriah an officer in his army.  He orders his messages as scripture describes it “to get her” (2nd Samuel 11:4).   Taken to the King’s bedroom Bathsheba has sex with David and is impregnated.

Attempting to coverup his conduct Uriah rebuffs repeated attempts by David to get him to come home to lay his wife.  In failure David enacts the ultimate solution ordering Uriah to the frontlines of the battle where he was killed.  Problem solved David marries Bathsheba, completing the coverup.

While God dislikes misogyny, he loves people who exposes wrongdoing.  The Lord sends Nathan the prophet to comfort David.  Nathen tells the story of a rich man with many herds of sheep forcibly taking the only lamb belonging to the poor man.  An angry David reacted saying that the rich man deserved to die for his actions.  Nathen responded telling David, you are that man, confronting David with the chilling details of his actions with Bathsheba and Uriah.

God dislikes misogyny, as punishment God as the scripture says, “will raise trouble in David’s home” (2nd Samuel 12:11).  David will not die but his wives will turn against him, and the child produced by his forbidden encounter will die.   David’s misogyny did not go unpunished.

In 2024 Misogyny is alive in business, school, politics, and the church. Men take part it and it is up to us as men to be like Nathan and call it out.  For when we do, we are doing the will of the Lord because God dislikes misogyny.
