We all know that Peter betrayed Jesus, denying Christ three times. Ever since that time Peter felt some kind of way, he felt incapable, he felt inadequate, he felt insufficient of ever being able to spread the Gospel.
While Peter felt some kind of way, Jesus felt another kind of way. Jesus saw Peter as being capable, Jesus saw Peter as adequate, Jesus saw Peter of being very sufficient to spread the Gospel.
That is why Jesus came to Peter calling to him three times: “do you love me” and when he answered yes Jesus replied the first time saying: “Take care of My lambs”, then he replied the second time saying: “Shepherd My sheep” and then the third time Jesus said “Look after My sheep”.
Jesus did not ask Peter about his love three times because he was unsure of his answer, rather, Jesus asked three times to demonstrate his confidence in Peter. Confidence that despite his betrayal and really because of his betrayal Peter was perfect to spread the Gospel.
Remember Jesus does not judge us by the worst thing we have done in fact he can use you and that worst thing for the glory of the Lord and the spreading of the Gospel.
Like Peter, Jesus is calling us. So let us answer the three calls of Jesus to take care of his lambs, let us answer his call to shepherd his sheep and to the look after his flock as all of us imperfect as we are, are perfect to spread the Gospel.
