You have herd all the clichés about prayer “take it to the Lord in prayer”, “pray without ceasing”, “our thoughts and prayers are with you” “prayer changes things,”. These are the clichés however to truly understand what prayer is we need to look to Jesus.
The disciples and Jesus have been traveling along the way Jesus prayed. Jesus prayed alone and he prayed in the mists of the people as he taught the gospel, healed the sick and raised the dead.
Watching all of this a disciple asked Jesus to
“Teach us how to pray”. Jesus responded with what we call the Lord’s prayer. So, what does the Lord’s prayer teaches us? Here are three thoughts: First that God is the only God, Second: It is God’s will not ours that will be done, and Third: we must ask God to forgive not only our sins but those who sin against us.
These teachings that should be incorporated in our prayer life, for when we do, they will bring life to all of those clichés about prayer.
