Jesus speaking in Luke 12:34 reminds us that “where your treasure is, there your heart will be too.”

According to Cox Automotive a leading information source in the car business the average price paid for a new non-luxury vehicle last month was $43,338.

So, for most Americans the automobile is the place where many of us display our treasure.  Regardless of the features or how fancy the car may look the financial investment in a car is substantial.

As we ride around in our cars in this significant display of our treasure we pass by children of God, whose treasure is significant less than ours.  We pass by people who are experiencing homeless.

Jesus could identify with the homeless in His itinerant ministry. In Matthew 8:20, Jesus states that even animals have a place to call home, but He had nowhere to lay His head.

Jesus stayed in the homes of whoever would welcome Him.  And yes, sometimes like we see with people who are experiencing Homelessness Jesus stayed outside.

Jesus was born in a stable and even spent His last night before His crucifixion outside in a garden.

God expects His people to help those who are homeless.

Proverbs 28:27 tells us “Those who give to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to them will receive many curses”.

What we do about this dilemma collectively and individually is truly up to us.

While I can’t solve the overall problem of homeless there is something that I can do to help it’s called a blessing bag.

I take a clear gallon zip lock bag and put into it items like a toothbrush, toothpaste, new socks, and baby wipes.  I carry the bags in my car and give them to the homeless or others who need a blessing.  My website www.marbenbland.com/blessings-bags has a list of more blessing bag items.

Jesus said, “where your treasure is, there your heart will be too.”  I hope you will take some of your treasure, create a blessing bag and be a blessing to others.
