If trends continue the election will not turn out the way I had hoped for, worked for, and prayed for.  As Christians in times of victory and times of loss, we turn to the Lord seeking guidance for how we should live with the results that have been given to us.

The Prophet Jeremiah is God’s messenger to the exiled Israelites in Babylon.  For the exiles, Jeremiah is like the prophet Moses a person who they would hear and obeyed.

Speaking for the Lord this is what Jeremiah told the exiles: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place.  For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Today, if you feel as I do an “exile” in a foreign land, because of the election results, know this God has not forsaken us.  God has not forsaken us because despite the apparent Republican victory in the House, a Black man was elected Governor in Maryland.  God has not forsaken us because despite the red wave in Florida election deniers nationwide did not gain the power they expected.  God has not forsaken us because Raphael Warnock still has a fighting chance to retain his Senate seat.

Meanwhile, we need to take our commands from God through Jeremiah and know that we have a prosperous future ahead regardless of the election results.  God has not forsaken us.
