I am Marben Bland, Pastor Of Greater Bethel AME Athens with a living the word moment.
Over 400 years before Jesus’ birth, the prophet Isaiah foretold his coming in Isaiah 9:6: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given… and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Jesus was born into a world marked by war and oppression. Bethlehem lay under Roman occupation, and conflict followed Jesus throughout his life. Religious leaders challenged his every move as he healed the sick, raised the dead, and proclaimed the kingdom of God. In Matthew 11:12, Jesus acknowledged the violence of his time, saying, “The kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and violent people take it by force.”
Yet Jesus is called the Prince of Peace because his peace begins within us. Isaiah reminds us that the child was given to us. Lasting peace for the world starts with each person’s heart. So, let there be peace on Earth, and let it begin with me.
