We have all heard or perhaps used the phase, the devil made me do it. The comic Flip Wilson made a living using that phase for big laughs as his signature character Geraldine would say it to explain away behavior that was unbecoming.
I have used it in the same way, telling folks that stuff that I have done was not my fault, rather is the doings of the Devil who has taken control of me. Causing me to do things that I would not do otherwise.
In Genesis chapter 3 we see the true way in which the Devil works. The Devil does not make us do things rather the Devil temps us into doing things on our own. Playing on our weakness, and our need for physical gratification, material gain, and our want of status and power.
