I recently found myself mired in complacency after achieving some personal goals. You know the feeling, that comfort zone where you just slow down and stop pushing as hard as you once did? In a burst of self-reflection, I realised that I wasn't giving due weight to my progress, how far I've come, and the achievements that now make my life better than it was. Join me in this episode as I candidly discuss my struggles with complacency and the power of gratitude.

I also delve into the stark reality of our privileged lives in comparison to those less fortunate. Amidst our pursuit of dreams and ambitions, we sometimes lose sight of the fact that we're already in a better position than we were. We forget to celebrate our wins and the progress made. In this chat, I share my journey back from complacency, my recommitment to my goals, and the importance of expressing gratitude for our achievements. Let's motivate each other, work towards our goals, and most importantly, remember to be appreciative of how far we've come.

Speaker 1:

The other day I put out an episode or clip talking about complacency how I've become complacent just because I've achieved a few things. I've stopped running as hard or as fast as I could to carry on reaching for those goals that you have, ultimate goals that you have for your life, for your future, for your partner, for your family, whatever, for your career. But since those last few days I almost fell back into the trap of being complacent. But I continued my self reflection because I thought that was quite helpful and it energised me for certain things and a part of me that realised that I lack gratitude. You forget where you've come from. You've got to remember that this year is a damn sight better than last year or the position you're in. Maybe not every single day is better than the last one, but the position you're in now is better than the position you're in last year. For me anyway, right. But sometimes I forget that because it's so focused on ah, I can't do this and I can't do that, but you can do this that you couldn't do before and we forget that, right. We've come so far from where I was that I'm out of debt I was in before compared to the amount I'm in now, the amount of money I was earning before compared to the amount I'm earning now, the freedom that I have now versus where, the way I was stuck before. There's loads of changes like that that are crazy and great. And although I talked about ah yeah, I'm celebrating this achievement and not thinking about my higher goal, at the same time, even though I'm celebrating the achievement, I'm being grateful I was just like, oh yeah, yeah, I hit a milestone, but it wasn't a case of, well, I'm not really appreciate what you fucking have, because I'm looking at the world right now and it's just fucking sad. It's heartbreaking, the shit that's going on and the you know, the innocent children, all that suffering out there. It's really heartbreaking.

Speaker 1:

And we in third well, I mean first world country, sorry live such a privileged life. You know and you know that's me comparing against an extreme situation that we're so lucky that we got roof over our head and food on the table and good people around you, and you know we safe, ultimately got to wake up this morning. So there's that comparison anyway that we should have gratitude for. But then all of us are working towards something and working towards a goal and ultimately, as long as you're taking a step forward and you keep moving. You're better off than where you were yesterday or the year before, or the day before or the week before or whatever the hell it is. You're better off because you're moving closer to your goal and we forget that, that each step does count. It might not feel like it, it might not feel like a lot's changed, but your mind's changed, your position changed. Everything like there is a difference.

Speaker 1:

So we've got to just keep going, be grateful for what we have and keep fighting for that better thing. No one's saying that you know you can just stop now. No, no, we're not talking about that. We still want to keep going, we still want to get better, we still want to achieve more. But be grateful for what you have achieved and what you have done. Don't be complacent, but be grateful.

Speaker 1:

And I think that's something where the balance is getting a bit messed up for myself, where I'm not being grateful, I'm just being fucking complacent and, you know, slowed the fuck down and it was a mistake, because it's I don't know, man, it's hard to get the momentum going again, but I'm trying right. I almost fell into the trap After making that last recording. I'm putting it out. I was just like, oh yeah, cool, I'll put it out. Yes, I'm motivated.

Speaker 1:

And then one day I do, just fucking sat down and watch TV and it's like, nah, I've got to use this fucking fire to just keep going. You know. So we've got back on it the next day, back working towards the goals, and we're not going to stop right. Let's hold each other accountable. Let's do this, let's fucking achieve those goals, while being grateful for what we do have so far. Thank you guys, so much for listening. I know this is a lot of me just ranting and putting my thoughts out there and some of it might apply to you, some of it might not. But come talk to me on Twitter, instagram, tell me what you're thinking, what you're feeling, what things you're aiming for, how you are. Do you get complacent? All of that stuff? You know, I just want to have a chat with someone. Get motivated and just keep pushing each other on. Let's go Bye.
