An Expat with 50 HMOs!

The Expat Property Guy

#156

Building a UK property portfolio as an expat is not easy.

Firstly there’s the distance… And the further you are from the UK the harder it is.

Not only does it take a lot longer to get back to the UK, but there’s the added complication of time differences.

And then there’s the lack of time available to work on building a portfolio.

And finding trustworthy UK property partners to work with is potentially even more challenging. Especially since there are so many sharks out there ready to pounce on higher paid and less taxed expats.

It might seem impossible.

But it’s not.

There are expats doing it.

And in this episode, we meet someone who’s doing it and doing it BIG

Together with his business partner, he has 50… yes 50 HMOs in his portfolio. This is an episode you won’t want to miss!

Toby Fenn is one half of Oxliving and in this episode, we discuss:

- Thermal envelope and the importance of council engagement in environmental policies

- Institutional interest in coliving and the challenges of accessing stock for institutional investment

- Plans to build a significant portfolio and sell to larger entities like pension funds or insurance companies

- Ongoing demand for HMOs and co-living in the UK due to population increase and housing shortages

- Navigating article 4 restrictions in Oxford and prioritizing tenant satisfaction

- Differences between purpose-built and smaller scale HMO models

We typically work with time poor professionals get a good return on their money by investing with us. To schedule a call to discuss
