Awe in Trauma

Narcissism Re-envisioned (with Caroline Strawson)

Season 1 Episode 21

Due to popular demand we have Caroline Strawson back for another illuminating conversation.  Caroline is a therapist, coach, author, podcaster and trainer specialising in working with survivors of narcissistic abuse and domestic violence.  She speaks passionately and plainly about the importance of a non-pejorative understanding of narcissism, approaching the issue from a attachment aware, inter-personal, parts and body-based perspective.  In this episode you'll hear an open and authentic account of how some of Caroline's own experiences have caused her profound pain in the past and how these have become a vehicle for deep healing.  She speaks of a process that has been incredibly enriching and is also on-going.  We hear about the power of approaches such as Brainspotting in being able to process and heal wounds that have had to be suppressed out of need for survival.  She shares her experience on how it feels to meet the anxiety that can come with the prospect of leaving behind old ways of coping as we embark on the pathway to healing.  There's hope and encouragement to hear how  wounds are relational and are very difficult to negotiate alone, but can be facilitated through the compassionate and unique relationship in therapy.
