Speaker 2:

Hello and welcome to Circle of Parks podcast episode number 149. Today we are discussing how to make the most of your resort day in Walt Disney World. There is far too much to see and do. We are here to help guide you through. But before we do that, we must talk Disney merch.

Speaker 2:

So this week on DisneyStorecom there is a lovely Mickey Mouse glove mug. Originally priced at $24.99, on sale now for $9.98. On sale now for $9.98. Get a grip while you sip. Dapper. Delightful and fully sculpted in the shape of Mickey's glove, this swell mug will help you start the day off right with a helping hand from the top mouse himself. And part of the reason why I picked this as well is it was one of my many Disney Mother's Day gifts from Zach and the boys, so I will definitely be posting a picture of it later on this week. And that is this week's Disney merch. We also have merch. If you go to our website, circuloparkscom, click on merch, it takes you directly to the t public website. We have things such as stickers, coffee mugs, sweatshirts, t-shirts and more, so please go check that out all right everybody.

Speaker 1:

Thank you for joining us. Episode number 149 how to make the most of your resort day in walt disney world. We've done the parks yes another resort day. You're thinking, well, you just hang out at the resort, right?

Speaker 2:

Well, yeah, but there's more to it.

Speaker 1:

There's more to do and our first trip we went. I know I've talked about this before, but I thought a resort day was a waste of a day in Disney.

Speaker 2:

And it's not.

Speaker 1:

It's not. It's actually very much needed and a part of the trip and you can actually go to Walt Disney World and not actually go to the parks and just have a good time doing other stuff at resorts.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, for sure, I mean, and you still feel like you're at Disney because all the resorts you know they kind of have their own theming, their own food they're known for. So yeah.

Speaker 1:

So, if you're new here, I'm Zach, I'm Brittany and we do this show every week and we hope to help you have a better Walt Disney World or Disneyland vacation. We'll talk a little bit about Disneyland, probably more coming up?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, in the summer.

Speaker 1:

They're coming up soon and our goal is not only to help you have a better Walt Disney World vacation, but just kind of escape to Walt Disney World every week for about 45 minutes to an hour Helps us.

Speaker 2:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

It really helps us through the week and, yeah, wherever you're listening to us, we appreciate it. And let's just get right into it how to make the most of your resort day in Walt Disney World. So Brittany did most of this, only added one thing to this.

Speaker 2:

So Brittany, lead us off. Well, and before I dive in, I mean, there are different ways to go about it. This is what has seemed to work more for us as our family, but you've got to start off with feeding that tummy, right? So, breakfast, and if you are at a deluxe resort, maybe try a sit down or a character dining that is specific to your resort, you know, and maybe start around 8 o'clock. That way, if it is character dining, you have plenty of time, especially if you're wanting to be one of the first ones at the pool.

Speaker 2:

Pools don't open, usually until 10 am, so that is an option. If you are staying at a deluxe resort or, you know, even resort, hop to another resort, you know, maybe you want to try Chef Mickey's at Contemporary or Ohana at Polynesian, somewhere like that. You know, you can, you know, hop on over a variety of ways, from riding the boat to other options, depending on where you're staying the monorail, and or you can just you know, uber, lyft, lift the mini vans, and that's the way we kind of like to start now, if you don't want to do a big breakfast, you don't want to do a sit down, that's not really your thing.

Speaker 1:

you're more of a grab and go person, then you know quick service options at every resort are wonderful as well so most of the quick service breakfasts are the same and they're the same food you're going to get at the breakfast buffets Pretty much.

Speaker 2:

Pretty much, yeah. I mean you can get things as simple as grabbing a quick muffin or donut to getting a breakfast platter with scrambled eggs and toast and bacon, or sausage and hash browns, you know.

Speaker 1:

I would say the most unique breakfast offering you can get, though, it's gotta be the tonga toast at the polynesian right, yeah oh, don't forget those mickey waffles though that you. You can get those everywhere. The most unique breakfast item it's sourdough bread. That's french. It's french toast stuffed with bananas. It's just so delicious. You can get it at Captain Cook's or you can go upstairs at Kona Cafe if you want a dining reservation for breakfast and have the strawberry compote you can put on. It Can't go wrong with that.

Speaker 2:

And again, that's at Polynesian.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

But one dining place that we really enjoyed back at Christmas time was at Wilderness Lodge, and it wasn't character dining or anything, but it was still a very fun, unique experience, and that was at Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge.

Speaker 1:

Yes, Go back and listen to that full dining review. Also Topolino's Terrace for breakfast. Oh, yes, so good Full dining review on that. Go check those out. So I went the opposite direction that you did and added the one thing I've added to this list. And if your wife and your travel planner go behind your back or don't go behind your back, and plan a 7 30 am breakfast reservation, you knew about it sleep in yeah don't Sleep in, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Don't set an alarm. This is the one day to do this. Right and whenever you get up. You get up. Go do the quick service breakfast. It's going to be good, but don't set an alarm. This is the day to do that, you know. If you want to get up super early and go to a you know a character dining breakfast before the parks, that's fine, but this day you don't let it be.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you know a character dining breakfast before the parks, that's fine, but this day just let it be. Yeah, I mean, or even if you're awake, just kind of chill out in your room, you know.

Speaker 1:

Let's be honest, you're not sleeping past 8 o'clock in Walt Disney World anyway, though. You really aren't, even if you well, I don't know. We're going to test that this summer with the middle schooler. Yeah, so y'all might be able to, but I don't know. He's an early riser.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and you know, if you have like window, you know, or sliding door or something with the light shining through, you know that's usually what, like I'll start stirring a little bit, look over in that direction and be like, oh must be time to get up so.

Speaker 1:

So if you want to make a character dining breakfast reservation, yeah, you know how to reach out to right.

Speaker 2:

I believe so, but do tell us.

Speaker 1:

The professionals at Main Street Travel Company. They are the official sponsor of this podcast and we use them for all of our Disney and non-Disney vacation needs. They can plan your Walt Disney World, disneyland Disney Cruise Line, adventures by Disney Aulani, disneyland Paris, your Vero Beach Disney Resort and Hilton Head Beach Disney Resort. They can book those as well. We're going to have a trip planning episode next week for Vero Beach because we're going in two weeks. Yes, less than two weeks now, yes, so look forward to that.

Speaker 1:

We sent you Up to $1,000 on board credit with Disney Cruise Line, up to $1,000 cash back on your adventures by Disney, a gift card for your Walt Disney World or Disneyland trip. And if you book with our travel planner, travel Planner Erica, she's going to throw an initial $25 gift card on top of Walt Disney World. And if you book Disneyland with Travel Planner Erica, she's going to throw an extra $100 gift card on top of that, because that's just her home park and she loves it so much.

Speaker 2:

Yes, so I mean, why pass that up?

Speaker 1:

I don't know why you wouldn't book your vacations with a travel planner, especially if it's a travel company. They're going to save you time and stress and money.

Speaker 2:

Yes, vacations with a travel planner especially means your travel company. They're going to save you time and stress and money. Yes, it's just so easy. I don't know if you checked our disneyland account today like that, she made a reservation for us for our disneyland trip.

Speaker 1:

Don't sell where yet okay, yeah, but okay, but it, but it's great done because we didn't even have to worry about it.

Speaker 2:

You know we had a conversation last week on what places we'd like to go to and you know there's one of them taking care of, taking care of you can go visit their website, wwwmainstreettravelcocom.

Speaker 1:

they're on instagram, facebook and youtube and you can call them 1-800-593-1262. Again, that's my favorite thing about main street traffic company. Not only are they like, super nice and just amazing travel agents, they're full-time agents. You can call them Monday through Friday, 10 am 5 pm, central Time, monday through Friday, and they're not going to get back to you. When they can, they will be able to help you during that time.

Speaker 2:

Yes, so we love them. Please go check them out.

Speaker 1:

Yep, all right. So what's next After you've had breakfast?

Speaker 2:

So, after you've had breakfast, you know Wherever it is.

Speaker 2:

Now, if you did, maybe hop over to another resort you know, take some time let that food digest walk around that resort a little bit, take it in, you know, and then head back over to your resort. Or, if you're at your resort and have had time to let that food digest, get ready for the pool. Again, pools usually open at 10 am and if you're in there when they open like when, like right when they open that usually that first hour is pretty chill. There's not, you know, there's going to be some other people, but it's not extremely busy, you know. Use that time to really just enjoy all the space to yourself, just relax a little more. It's before they get like the kids DJ going with the music and all that.

Speaker 2:

And if you are at a deluxe or moderate resort, there are servers around the pool that if you want to use them to bring you beverages or even more food, they do that as well. Now, if you are at a value resort, you know there's usually like a place walking distance from the pool, or, you know, hop right into their food court area, grab something, come back. But again, that's what we usually do is hit the pool pretty early and stay there for a few hours before doing lunch, and sometimes we do lunch for you know, for us at the pool, and then sometimes we do get up, go to like a quick service at the resort and then come back I usually like, so I'll get in the pool some, but there it can get pretty rowdy sometimes in the pool.

Speaker 1:

Now, depending on the pool you're at, the slide can be awesome, or we could be if you're staying at. What's the name of the pool we're going to this summer At the Beach.

Speaker 2:

Club. I know I'm drawing a blank on the name of it. Why are we?

Speaker 1:

drawing a blank. So the pool at the Beach Club and the Yacht Club they share the pool is, by far from everything we've been told and what we've seen, the best pool in Walt Disney World. It's got a huge slide, it's got a sand-bottom pool part.

Speaker 2:

Stormalong.

Speaker 1:

Bay, stormalong Bay, that's right. It's got a lazy river. It is by far heads above everybody else's pool. Can't wait. They got a great little quick service bar area right there. Beaches and Cream is literally right there next to it. Other resorts the pool bar food is. I mean it's hot dogs and burgers and stuff like that, and chicken tenders, yeah, but it's still good. Or take lunchtime, take a break, go unchanged, go eat. Yeah, you know, take lunch time, take a break, go and change, go eat.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you know, typically our boys they like to stay at the pool a while, do the slides, so that's why we don't usually go too far, you know. And sometimes you know, if they do eat, then around that time if there's an arcade close by, we might go to the arcade for a little bit at the resort, let that food digest some and then, you know, back to the pool for a little while. But then around three, four o'clock in the afternoon we usually do head back to the room, shower, chill, relax some yeah, I would say that's, and I just rest that time.

Speaker 1:

Y'all are usually busy doing that stuff. I usually just like to relax and walk around the resort. Some usually grab a drink and just kind of just take the resort in and relax. Because they're staying in these really nice resorts, you want to get your money out of them as well oh, yeah, for sure.

Speaker 2:

And again, it just depends on where you're staying and what type of room. Like I go back to the christmas one, but, um, at wilderness lodge, whenever we were in the room, like I spent a lot of time on that balcony because of the location of it. It was so, so nice and peaceful, made you feel like you were in the woods, yet you could still hear the the horns of the boats on the well, you could see the monorail, you could see the castle and we just had a standard view room yeah, so it was great, but it was still very relaxing and peaceful back there too all at the same time, so just take it all in, and by this time everybody's dressed.

Speaker 2:

Hopefully you've got reservations for a nice dinner and go to disney springs yeah, and it doesn't necessarily have to be a very nice restaurant, but it does help. Disney springs, the evenings especially, gets very busy. So you know, maybe around that 6 pm time head towards Disney Springs, you know, catch a bus head on over there and then you know, we usually hit a couple of shops and stuff, maybe eat dinner around 7, shop some more, and there are so many nice restaurants here but then also restaurants that are like quick service setup as well yeah.

Speaker 1:

So disney springs is tough for us and you get really, really crowded. But if you're wanting a good dinner, I mean you got boathouse, you've got wine bar, george homecoming homecoming are is just absolutely delicious and for quick service you've got chicken guy, which is it's all right, deluxe burger. I'm just gonna go and say it right now the best burger on property I haven't tried it and it's a quick service restaurant and it's so good, so good.

Speaker 1:

I'm saying it right now it is the best burger on property. They usually have some like special burgers and stuff. So good I want to try a polite pig out. It's a quick service restaurant. You can use dining or your credits there. Great barbecue, huge list of bourbons. There's some just very unique themed restaurants here that you're not going to find anywhere else.

Speaker 2:

Right.

Speaker 1:

And it's. You can make a really good night out of it, even if you're like us and don't really like the crowd, that stuff. But there's some great shops. There's our favorite store. There is the Pele store, soccer store. Our kids are obsessed with soccer. They'll. They'll be able to make some unique jerseys for you. They've got like the best cleats and all that stuff and there's usually got a few games going on. They have a cool Star Wars store. They have a cool Marvel store. Actually, they got two Star Wars stores.

Speaker 2:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

The Disney store is just chaos.

Speaker 2:

But it's amazing all at the same time.

Speaker 1:

But there's some cool stuff in there and there's some other couple of shops in there.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, we go to like the Lego store. There's other Disney merchandise stores in there too that have some unique items.

Speaker 1:

Disney Style will have some cool stuff. Uniqlo will usually have some unique Disney shirts that are very cheap. They're like really really cheap.

Speaker 2:

And not your usual designs either.

Speaker 1:

You can go and do the Beverly Challenge, if you want to, at the Coke store Brittany's.

Speaker 2:

I know my nose.

Speaker 1:

Like scrunching her nose. Yeah, there's just so much. You can do the amphicars at the boathouse. You can do the balloon, if that's your thing yeah they have a movie theater there. They have um Splitsville yeah, bowling so you can really make a good night out of it and and do more than just eat and shop here.

Speaker 2:

More Moto Asia, yeah you more than just eat and shop here more moto asia. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

So, like there's so many great places, live music there too, at different times yeah, but so for us we live in nashville, yeah, we're live musiced out, so that's not really our thing, but if you love it like and that's why I'm saying it like, yes, we're sharing what we do, but we want to give others there is a lot of live music there also.

Speaker 1:

If you're, if you finish dinner at like seven or eight and you don't have anything else to do the rest of the night and it's a thursday, friday or saturday night, you know where you can go where you can take a boat from disney springs to port orleans riverside and watch yee-haw bop. That's a great night too.

Speaker 1:

It is, and that resort itself is very, very pretty, very pretty, and they even do like horse carriage rides and all that on that property as well, and yeah, they do, and so I also wanted to say, if it's raining, what do you do on your resort day when it's raining or it's cold and the kids don't want to get in the pool, which, if you're like our kids, they just don't care?

Speaker 2:

As long as it's not storming.

Speaker 1:

But what do you do when it's raining and the pools are not open? So resort hop, you can do the Skyliner hop Crawl.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

You can hit up all the resorts there. You don't have to eat or drink and everything, but just go and tour them right.

Speaker 2:

Right, because they're all themed so differently and they're all so pretty in their own ways, and it doesn't matter whether it's deluxe, moderate or value. They all have something different that's special to them.

Speaker 1:

You can start at Hollywood Studios and then go to Pop Century and Art of Animation. Go check those resorts out and then fly over Caribbean Beach because there's not really much there to see. It's a huge resort, but get off at the Riviera yeah, go check that out, beautiful Right. And then get back on and go to the side entrance at Epcot and you've got the Beach Club, yacht Club and the Boardwalk, and the Boardwalk is a great alternative to Disney Springs.

Speaker 2:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

They have the Flying Fish, which is a pretty high-end restaurant from what we've read, and everything Great food. They've got the Pizza Window, which is a pretty good pizza for Disney.

Speaker 2:

It really is.

Speaker 1:

They've got the Ice Cream Shop. They've got the little deli there. They're going to have Blue Ribbon Corn Dog here pretty soon. The ice cream shop. They've got the little deli there, they're going to have blue ribbon corndog here pretty soon and they've got. If you're looking for some nightlife, they've got the abracadabra and they've got the dance hall and the dueling pianos there.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so I mean, like Zach said, you know that's an alternative. It's not going to be as crazy busy and it's very pretty at night.

Speaker 1:

It is beautiful at night at Crescent Lake. Or you can do a monorail crawl. You can hit up Contemporary Polynesian and the Grand Floridian. Go to those resorts, Check them out, See what they got. Try a bit of food at all of them.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Or you can do. I'm going to call it a boat hopping resort Boat hopping.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

You can go from the Magic Kingdom.

Speaker 1:

Take the boat to the grand floridian and then go to the polynesian and go back to magic kingdom and then take a boat to the wilderness lodge yeah, and you can go to and this may be one of the best things to do if you don't want to have a pool day go to the cabins at fort wilderness. There's so much to do at the cabins or at fort wilderness that we we could dedicate a whole episode yeah, they do have a lot of activities and horses and good food there too great food there.

Speaker 1:

Also, you got putt putt golf. You can go golfing if you're a golfer or you can go. They have plenty of places to go fishing at too, yeah, so those are other options. You can go golfing if you're a golfer or you can go. They have plenty of places to go fishing at too.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so those are other options you can do if you don't want to have a pool day or it's the pool is not open, or something like that yeah, again, like it doesn't matter what resort, like you're going to find something that's special to that resort, whether it's decor and what they're known for entertainment, food, food, just I don't know. There's just so much more, like we said at the beginning, than the theme parks. I know that's what we think about when you think Disney, but just we've learned to really, you know, take it all in and really enjoy the time at the resorts, and sometimes that I'm not saying it might it's not necessarily my favorite day of the trip, but it's usually one of the top two- it is what am I?

Speaker 1:

and then there's also so many activities to do at the resort. They've got arts and crafts you can do. Most resorts will have that and they'll have the times posted you can roast marshmallows and make s'mores they have moves. So if you're after dinner from disney springs to go back to resort, you can watch movies under the stars or just get back in the pool. The pool is usually open till what around 11 I believe so and the, the pools at night kind of take on their whole different energy yeah, it's a different vibe.

Speaker 2:

A lot of people, you know they'll end their night after a long day at the, at the parks you know spend an hour or so at the pool just to kind of chill out, get the kids energy out a little bit more before bedtime, all of that. But it is definitely a different vibe, but in a good way it's in a very good way in the pools.

Speaker 1:

it's just they're just different at night and I just remember our first time we really sat down and had a resort day. We were staying at Animal Kingdom and it was late at night it was probably after 10 o'clock and the pool got really crowded all of a sudden. Yeah, it did. And I was like where do these people come from? Oh, they came back from the parks, but it's just at night. The lights are on. It's completely different. The lights are on. It's completely different.

Speaker 2:

The Polynesian- the lava pool way better at night.

Speaker 1:

Way better at night. The pool at the Grand Floridian isn't the best pool, but there's something really magical about the pool being on the Seven Seas Lagoon, with the monorail going by and Cinderella Castle right there. Yeah, I think that may be the most magical pool, just as far as where you're at.

Speaker 2:

Right, I think that was really really cool. Oh, I agree it was very pretty. Well, it was pretty, but just yeah, being able to see everything you just mentioned.

Speaker 1:

From the pool was pretty awesome yeah.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so, yeah, so there's. You know, a lot of people just aren't aware of it, even though a lot of this stuff is posted. You know, as far as movies and everything, they pretty much have a movie just about every night.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

And you know, and it's not like, and they change it every night. Usually too, it's not the same movie two nights in a row.

Speaker 1:

Yes, yeah, all right. Anything else you want to add to how to make the best of your resort day?

Speaker 2:

No, just I mean, like we've always said during your trip at some point, take time and slow down. So, even if you don't have a full resort day and maybe it's a half day, you know, maybe take some of this information we just talked about into consideration and take time and just slow down, relax.

Speaker 1:

Relax, all right. So that brings us to this week's Disney trivia. So we're talking about resorts, right? Yes, so the question was what Walt Disney World resort did President Richard Nixon give his famous I am not a crook speech from?

Speaker 2:

I do not know.

Speaker 1:

There's been a lot of historical things happen in Walt Disney World resorts. Yeah, you had the Beatles officially breaking up, and then the Richard Nixon speech at it was at the Contemporary. Okay, it was in one of those ballrooms in the Contemporary.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I didn't realize that.

Speaker 1:

So this week's winner Sweeney has been dethroned by one minute oh my. Close by one minute. Wow, a lot of people answered this correctly. Okay, a lot of people did. And from Instagram raindropfairycom Is this week's Disney trivia winner, so congratulations, raindrop Fairy.

Speaker 2:

Congrats by one minute.

Speaker 1:

They've been a listener for a while and we really appreciate them. A lot of people answered this one. A lot of people got it right, but Raindrop Fairy was the first one.

Speaker 2:

Nice.

Speaker 1:

So Darth Mouse reached out and asked was that when Richard Nixon got kidnapped? Did you know that story? Okay, so here's the story.

Speaker 2:

This is not Waltalt disney world, so this is a disney podcast.

Speaker 1:

Yes, but this is disney related. So did you know? Walt, disney and bob ger kidnapped vice president. He was then vice president nixon. They kidnapped him. So here's the story. So nixon was a big disney fan and when they were getting ready to open the monorail in disneyland, richard nixon, who was in vice president, came to take a tour of it right. So he had secret service and all that with him. He was on the monorail with bob. Bob girds is one that designed him. He was the driver and walt was in there and president nixon was like, well, I truly, let you know. Or vice president nixon was like, well, I truly. Or Vice President Nixon was like I truly like to see how it goes, and he goes. And Walt said Bob, let's go. And so Bob Gurr closed the doors off. They went, secret Service agents still standing on the platform.

Speaker 1:

So they technically kidnapped Vice President Richard Nixon on the monorail technically kind of yeah, but I mean, it wasn't you know I get it though, but yeah, the Secret Service agents were flipping out. They were not happy. No, All right. So anything else you'd like to say?

Speaker 2:

No, no, you know, just again. Enjoy your trip, make the most out of it, slow down, take in those small moments.
