Speaker 1:

Welcome to More Than Medicine, where Jesus is more than enough for the ills that plague our culture and our country. Hosted by author and physician, Dr Robert Jackson.

Speaker 2:

Papa, can you tell me a story? Do you really want me to tell you a story? Well, you go, get your brother and your sisters and I will tell you a story. Well, you go, get your brother and your sisters and I will tell you a story. Welcome to Devotions with Dr Papa. Gather around, grab your Bibles and let us look into the written Word, which reveals to us the living Word, which is our Lord Jesus Christ.

Speaker 2:

Well, this week we're once again in Daniel, chapter 12. I'd like for us to start with verse 10, which talks about the purging of Israel. Many will be purged, purified and refined, but the wicked will act wickedly. But the wicked will act wickedly and those who have insight will understand. I left out a phrase and none of the wicked will understand, but those who have insight will understand. From the time that the regular sacrifice is abolished and the abomination of desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days of desolation is set up. There will be 1,290 days. How blessed is he who keeps waiting and attains to the 1,335 days.

Speaker 2:

Now, what in the referred to in Ezekiel, chapter 20, verse 34 to 38. So let me read that and then we'll come back to answer our question. Let me read to you Ezekiel, chapter 20, verse 34 to 38. I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you from the lands where you are scattered, with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm and with wrath poured out, and I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples and there I will enter into judgment with you face to face, as I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt. So while I enter into judgment with you, declares the Lord God, I will make you pass under the rod and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant and I will purge from you the rebels and those who transgress against me. I will bring them out of the land where they sojourn.

Speaker 2:

Now, what is this passage talking about? Well, theologians understand this to mean that there's going to be a purging of the Jews, and the subject of this purging or judgment is Jews who survive the tribulation. They're going to be a contingent of Jewish people who survive the tribulation time. Now, how long is the tribulation? Well, the great tribulation is the last three and a half years of the seven-year tribulation, and the scriptures right above in the book of Daniel tells us that it lasts for times, time, time, times and a half a time, which is three and a half years. And Daniel asked the question of the angels, the holy ones that were there, and he said how long will this be? And he, the man, spoke to him and he said that it would be for a time. The man spoke to him and he said that it would be for a time, singular times, plural and half a time. So God explicitly tells the readers of the book of Daniel and Daniel himself that the great tribulation would be three and a half years. This is the 70th week of Daniel. So this purging of Israel is going to happen at the conclusion of the three and a half years, and the subject of this purging is the Jews who survive this three and a half years of great tribulation.

Speaker 2:

Now here's the next question who will be separated out in this judgment, this purging? The answer is Jews who survived the tribulation but have accepted the mark of the beast. Now my patients often have a medical malady called binging and purging. They overeat and then they make themselves vomit, they make themselves throw up, and I want you to understand that the Jews who take the mark of the beast are going to make God vomit them out. God is going to throw up with terrible, holy distaste those Jews who accept the mark of the beast, the mark of anti-Messiah anti-Christ, of anti-Messiah anti-Christ, anything that has to do with anti-Christ, those Jews who are apostate, who worship idols, who worship the anti-Christ, the opposite of Jesus Christ. They will be so anathema to holy God that he will vomit them out. And that's why it's called purging, the purging of those Jews who worshiped the anti-messiah. And what is the scene of this purging? You must understand that Israel is always judged separately from all the other nations of the world and it occurs after the tribulation. Matthew 24 makes it plain that this judgment, this purging of Israel, occurs after the tribulation and it occurs before Christ, the judge, the righteous judge, the judge of all the nations, he who judges all men rightly and with perfect equity.

Speaker 2:

The sentence of this purging in Matthew 24 and verse 37 through 42. Let's look at that verse in the book of Matthew, in verse 24, verse 37 through 42. Let's read that together. For the coming of the Son of man will be just like the days of Noah, for, as in those days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away. So will the coming of the Son of man be Then? There will be two men in the field, one will be taken and one will be left. Two women will be grinding at the mill, one will be taken and one will be left. Therefore, be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.

Speaker 2:

Now I understand that many people look at this verse and they think that this is a description of the rapture of the church, but it is not. Okay, please understand, it is not. This passage refers not to the rapture of the church, but to the revelation of Lord Jesus. Those Jews who've received the mark of the beast, marked Jews, are taken, just like unbelievers of Noah's days were taken away by the flood. Those Jews have received the mark of the beast will be taken away. Saved Jews are to be left, as Noah and his family were secure in the ark, so saved Jews, believing Jews, those who have put their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, will be secure in Jesus Christ and will be left to enter into the millennium.

Speaker 2:

Now let me ask you another question how long will this purging take place? Well, go back to the book of Daniel. It tells us explicitly. God gives explicit detail in the book of Daniel. It says from the time that the regular sacrifice is abolished and the abomination of desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. And of course that's not quite time times and half a time, three and a half years. But Jesus told us in Matthew 24, unless those days had been cut short, all flesh would die. And he said for the sake of the elect, those days were cut short. So it's abbreviated for the sake of the elect.

Speaker 2:

But then it says in verse 12, how blessed is he who keeps waiting and attains to the 1,335 days, to the 1,335 days. The difference between 1,335 and 1290 days is 45 days. You see, the purging of Israel, the judging of Israel, is going to take 45 days. Why does it take so long? I don't know that's up to God. So long, I don't know that's up to God. But the judging of Israel, the discerning of who received the mark of the beast and who did not, and dispensing the judgment to those who did receive the mark, will take 45 days. That's how long it will take. Now let me ask you another question. That's how long it will take.

Speaker 2:

Now let me ask you another question. This is an interesting question what will happen to unsaved Jews who survived the tribulation but did not receive the mark of the beast? I'll ask it again what will happen to unsaved Jews who survived the tribulation but do not receive the mark of the beast, to unsaved Jews who survived the tribulation but do not receive the mark of the beast? I believe the scripture makes it plain that those Jews will be regathered. I believe that Christ will be revealed to them and that Israel as a nation will be reborn. And that's what Romans 11, 26 is referring to when it says all Israel will be saved, not saved as in born again, but being reconstituted as a nation. It does not mean that all Jews from Abraham through the tribulation will be saved, but it refers to those who survived the tribulation alive and have not accepted the mark of the beast, that all of them, from all around the world, will be gathered together and they will be reconstituted as a nation. Interesting question, and it just shows you that God still loves his chosen people and he does deal with them separately and differently. Now we have other judgments that I want us to talk about, but I'm going to save it until next week. I want us to talk about the judgment seat of Christ. I want us to talk about the judgment seat of Christ. I want us to talk about the judgment of the nations or the judgment of the Gentiles, and I want us to discuss once again the great white throne judgments, and those all deserve their own time and their own attention and their own challenges. But I want us to conclude this lesson by challenging you.

Speaker 2:

All of us know people who are Jewish, and I want to conclude with a story that happened to me when I was in college and I was knocking on doors as a college student and sharing the gospel in the dormitory at my college. And one day I knocked on a door and two college students opened the door and I told them what my name was and what my friend's name was, and I said we're just talking to students about our spiritual lives and their spiritual lives and curious if you'd be willing to talk to us. And the guys looked at us and said we're Jewish. Well, I'd never had anybody respond to me like that and I was just kind of bum-fuzzled and I didn't know what to say and I just kind of apologized and I backed up and shut the door. Well, I thought about it for some time and I realized that I should have immediately said well, that's great.

Speaker 2:

My Savior, the Lord Jesus, was Jewish, and the book that I read is mostly written by Jewish authors. And I'd love to ask you some questions. You see, that would have been a great introduction and, you see, all of us know people who are Jewish and I think it would be great to engage our Jewish friends with questions about the Old Testament and questions about Jesus. And here's the kicker Most Jewish people are biblically illiterate and if we engage them with questions, we can challenge them to read the word, the Old Testament, the New Testament, and we can share with them our testimony.

Speaker 2:

Barna, who is a Christian research organization, tells us that most people who have a Christian friend are willing to allow their Christian friend to share with them their story, ie their testimony. If you ask your lost friend, would you be willing to let me share with you my story of how I became a Christian? Most folks are going to say, yeah, I'll be glad to listen. Just ask your friends, even your Jewish friends, if they would be willing to allow you to share your story, and it will open the door for you to share with your lost friends, jewish or not, how you became a believer. I would encourage you to do so. And why would you do that? Because judgment is a reality, the purging of Israel is a reality, the judgment seat of Christ is a reality and, brothers and sisters, if we love the people in our circle of influence, it's incumbent upon us to warn them of the judgment to come.

Speaker 2:

You're listening to Devotions with Dr Papa. If you like what you hear, I encourage you to download, because that's the only way I know how many folks are listening to, like it, to share it, to follow, to tell your friends and neighbors, and then join again next week when we're going to talk about the judgment seat of Christ, the judgment of the nations and the great white throne judgment. The week after that, we will conclude our study of the judgment of the nations and the great white throne judgment. The week after that, we will conclude our study of the book of Daniel. Thank you, and the Lord bless you. Real good.
