So God bless this kid.Like, is he a nerd? Yes.But...I stopped ordering from Chipotle, like,on the app for that exact reason.Because they don't have to see your eyeswhen they are skimpingyour chickens in your bowl. But my main thing is that the terminologythere is familygatherings and then condoms.I'm like, who's fuck...Like, who...What is happening there?I guess they're tryingto hide the evidence.Take it, but...Welcome to episode 18 of CyberNut.I'm your host Enrique V.T.This is the continuation of last week'sshow with Joshua Vergara. On this episode, we reminisce on how wefirst met in the tech space.first met in the tech space. Then we'll dive into the cyber scoopwhere we'll read someof funny tech headlines. After that, Joshua gives us some insightAfter that, Joshua gives us some insighton what it's reallylike to be a tech YouTuber. If you're new here, this is CyberNut.If you're new here, this is CyberNut.It's a show where we tell stories andexperiences madepossible by the information age.Everything connected, online, on yourphone, has an origin story. So let's talk about it.The good, the bad, theugly, and the hilarious.ugly, and the hilarious.Enjoy the show.Enjoy the show!Let's continue with how we met.So I knew who JoshuaI knew who Joshua was before I met him.He was a YouTuber for Android Authority. And so I would watch his YouTube videos. And so I would watch his YouTube videos. And it wasn't until 2015And it wasn't until 2015that I started working in tech.that I started working in tech.I worked for GSM Arenafor seven years from then.I probably met you like once or twice, like on a common trip or likeat a launch event or something.Yeah.But it wasn't until 2017 that I wasBut it wasn't until 2017 that I wasinvited to a trip to China with Huawei.invited to a trip to China with Huawei.Yes, that's the same Huawei that wasbanned by the Trump administration.Stories from another episode of Cybernet.Stories from another episode of Cybernet. It's 100%.I was there. Were you there?I was at CES, but I wasn't in--I was at CES, but I wasn't in...Oh, okay. But I know people that werelike way closer than I was.So I might have to have you back for thatdiscussion because that would be amazing.Oh, my God. Yes. Okay.So anyway, we were in China with HuaweiSo anyway, we were in China with Huaweiand Joshua was on the trip.and Joshua was on the trip.We were in the same buses, we were in thesame hotels, we were in the same group. And we vibed really welland we got super close. And our humor was likeon the same frequency. And it got to the point where we got solike inseparable that wewould sit together at dinner.and like we would share our dishes. And like we would share our dishes. We'd be like, okay, you're going to getthe steak and I'm going to get the seven. And we would like share our food. And we would like share our food.Like we were basicallya couple on this trip.We were basically a couple on this trip.Like it was like wegot along really well.got along really well. And it's just been likethat since then, pretty much. And the time we saw eachother on a trip after that. And I'm just, I guess wrapping that up,I'm grateful to have you in my life.I'm grateful to have you as a friend. And every time I talk to you, every timeI see you guys, you and all the otherpeople, I just come back inspired. You're tapping into something that I feelYou're tapping into something that I feela lot whenever I hang outwith our core group as well.with our core group as well.Like I'm an extrovert. So like when I'm talking and when I'mactually vibing with somebody, likethat's, that's where I'm at my peak. That's where I'm at my best. That's where I'm at my my best.So yeah, this is this is like perfect,So yeah, this is like perfect, which isreally funny because ifyou look like, you know, because if you look like you know,Andy is seeing my my setup right now forAndy is seeing my setup right now for myYouTube, but I have this 500square foot office right here.I'm the only one inhere at any given moment.Like that's the problem.Like that.Like I think that's one of the biggestproblems I have is that I'm not aroundall y'all more often.all y'all more often. So that's another thing that I'm lookingforward to in 2024 isactually making the trips out.actually making the trips out.So I want to come out to Florida. So I want to come out to Florida, seeyou, see Danny, and I want to go to NewYork and see everybody there.I want to go up to San Francisco, seeChris Velasco and allthese other people, you know.So like I want to make that happenSo like I want to make that happenbecause I don't I'm not as fortunate tohave the community that I need to reallyinspire me right next to me here in L.A.right next to me here in L.A.Also with this job, I'vejust met people from everywhere.just met people from everywhere. And that's I think I have all thesefriends that are that I vibe with so wellthat inspire me and they're all over. And it just gives me the opportunity tolike be able to travel and see them andjust be able to have like a wholeexperience in their hometown or you know,in this other country or in this othercontinent that I had never been to.Yeah, which was and then we make our ownexperiences like I'm reminded of onestory from that China trip, like I'm reminded of one story from thatwhich was we were eating at one of themany lazy Susan meals that we had.Susan meals that we had.My God, I don't think I've ever eatenthat many calories in like two days.Oh my God. Yeah, it was nuts.Yeah, it was nuts.Every single even breakfast, evenEvery single even breakfast, evenbreakfast was the full spread on a lazySusan that had 20 people at the table. It was insane. But one of them, we wentto that restaurant and they were theykept making a big deal about the factthey had like, oh, thisis I remember what it was.I remember what it was.Was it like a baby baby chicken?chicken duck, baby duck?Duck baby duck. Yeah, they made a bigdeal about this dish that they had.And it was like, it's baby duck. It'sbaby duck. It's great. And then I like lifted up my Coke can andI'm like, can I get a baby Coke?Like, I just get a baby Coke that likey'all are about babies here. And that's like the humor that you and Ihave always kind of had.And like I remember you were dying andthen I was fucking dying.then I was fucking dying. And we the other the other story I haveis that like, who was it that was in ourgroup that just hadenough of the lazy Susan food? And we actually went out and just triedto find. Oh, it was it wasChung, us and Chung Chung.Yeah, Chung was the one that was like, Ican't do it anymore.I need to find. I just need sushi.Yeah, or like American food or something. And we end up like going out on like anAnd we end up like going out on like anexcursion is the best way I can put it.And we found a 7-Eleven and this dude wasjust so happy to drinka icy. Oh my God. Yeah.Oh, my God. Yeah.I was like, you know, live it, bro. Like,I love it. That's great. You know, because we all need thoseYou know, because we all need thosecomforts, like, which is funny because itparallels with other people in our space.parallels with other people in our space.Like the first time I met Mr. Mobile,Michael Fisher was in IFA.Michael Fisher was in IFA.And I met him at a Starbucks because hehad gotten sick of all the German foodthat he neededsomething that was familiar.something that was familiar. So he goes straight to Starbucks and he'slike, give me a caramelfrappuccino right now.frappuccino right now.And I'm like, yeah, I mean, we we wetravel. We travel a lotor we did travel a lot.And yeah, we got to experience new typesof experiences with new people.of experiences with new people. And like it just yeah, it was a greattime. And that China trip was the firstof a fair amount, honestly, like moving forward. And we haven't I've been fortunate enoughthis past year to go back to China onetime because I'm like theonly one with a visa still.only one with a visa still. And right. Right. And right. And and it was it was a goodtime. It was good to be able to go back.I wonder when we're going to have anotherlike many of us go to China again becauseI don't think we've donethat since around that time.that since around that time.I don't know. I guess it's going todepend on which Chinese maker is going tomake it big in the U.S. again. But I don't know. Maybe. Maybe. But I don't know.Maybe maybe I don't know. But that's the thing, like a lot of theChinese companies, though, they're allabout like, let's do our event in Europe.Like, let's do ourevent in some other country. You know, like they they they're they'restill skeptical aboutbringing people out to like Beijing.Which makes sense. I mean,Which makes sense. I mean, given the what is it called?given the what is it called?given the what is it called? The tension betweenChina and U.S. or whatever.Yeah. But anyhow, yeah, that's prettymuch that's how we met.pretty much that's how we met.Just going to just going to we're goingJust going to just going to we're goingto retreat from that.Yeah. This is stop right there.Yeah. Let's just stop right there. Weneed to go for it in the U.S. Anyway.Anyway, let's let'sAnyway, let's let'sYou're listening to CyberNut.(upbeat music)(upbeat music)This part of the show nowis called "Cyber Scoop."(dramatic music)(dramatic music)We're gonna just go over some storiesand some of them have multiple dimensionsand some of them are like really funny, some of them make you think, some of them make yougo, "What the fuck?"Some of them make yougo, "Hmm, okay, yeah."And some of them have ahappy ending, some of them don't.Anyway, that's not the point."Cyber Scoop," here we go.You've been to Chipotle, right?- Absolutely.- Absolutely.- I go to Chipotle a lot. Now, some locationsare better than othersbecause sometimes the portion controlbecause sometimes the portion controlis a little bit wonky at some locationsdepending on the time you go.depending on the time you go.Some are so busy that theyskimp hard on the portions.double, they give you double.- Because that's a reallydumb but relevant hot topicwhen it comes to Chipotle is the factwhen it comes to Chipotle is the factthat some of thesesome of these people skimp on the scoop, like fill the spoon, fill the spoonlike fill the spoon, fill the spoonbefore you scoop it into my bowl.before you scoop it into my bowl.- I'm fucking hungry, like come on.- I'm fucking hungry, like come on.- This is literally the reason why my momwill not let me orderChipotle via the app,Chipotle via the app, even though I love their app.even though I love their app.Like it's actually a really good app.- I stopped orderingfrom Chipotle on the appfor that exact reason.- Because they don'tBecause they don't have to see your eyeswhen they are skimpingyour chicken to your bowl.your chicken in your bowl.- I was gonna say too.- I was gonna say too.- Just like staring them down.- They don't like staring them down.I said chicken, not egg.Like, you got to give methe whole damn chicken. But I feel you. I feel you on thatbecause like I get I getthat way too sometimes. So then and then you like you get to knowyour community a little bitbecause you know, like this Chipotle isgood because like theythey give you a good amount. So this story is Ohiowoman assaults Chipotle workerand sentenced to work atfast food for two months.I remember hearing about this one.OK, was it because of the portion?Did they actually confirm that?So they didn't confirm it.But based on what she said in court,I kind of think it might have beenbecause of the portions.First of all, fucked up that that personlike mad about a fucking bowl. But you saw the clip, right?Like she like straightup threw it at the yeah.up threw it at the yeah.Person. Yeah, she threw it from likePerson. Yeah, she threw it from likeliterally speaking distance from her, literally speaking distance from her likeright into her face.face like that's traumatic.Like that's traumatic.face like that's traumatic. But so here's the story.Ohio woman named Rosemary Hane.OK, she was fined andShe was fined andsentenced to 180 days in jailbecause she assaulted this Chipotleworker by throwing her bowl at her.The video went viral onThe video went viral on Reddit, andthat's kind of like that'skind of where it blew up.that's kind of where it blew up.And that's when everyone was talkingAnd that's when everyone was talkingabout like the woman. Right.about like the woman. Right. And so here's what the judge says incourt at her sentencing.I don't know. Timothy Gilligan.I don't know. Timothy Gilligan.Timothy Gilligan, he says, you didn't getyour burrito bowl the way you like it.And this is how you respond. And this is how you respond. This is not RealThis is not RealHousewives of Parma, Ohio. This behavior is not acceptable. And, you know, in court,And, you know, in court, the woman Hane, she's, you know, remorseful, apologetic.39 years old, apologetic. She's like, you know, I had a bad day.I wish I didn't do that.I wish I didn't do that. But then she says in court back to thejudge after he says that,if I showed you how my food looked andhow my food looked a week laterfrom that samerestaurant, it's disgusting looking. So she was disgusted. The judge responds, I bet you won't beThe judge responds, I bet you won't behappy with the foodyou're going to get in jail.you're going to get in jail.Like try throwing trythrowing your what do you what? The slop that you get in jail at yourlike guard and see what happens there. So the judge. The judge. Sentenced, you know, the 180days, six months in jail. But he said that she can shave off 60days of that sentenceif she agrees to work 20hours a week at a fast food job.Do you want to walk in her shoes for twomonths and learn howpeople should treat people?Or do you want to do your jail time?I'd like to walk in her shoes. So she accepts afterwards, the victim, Emily Russell,Russell, the 26 year oldthe 26 year old employee, 26.employee, 26, 26 year old employee. She she quit shortly after the end.She she quit shortly after the end.She quit shortly after the end.She she quit shortly after the end.The whole thing happened. The whole thing happened. She was traumatized naturally, likeespecially after going viraland being interviewed on the news, Iwould have quit, too.Like that was that's too much attentionof like having aChipotle bowl thrown at you. That's a lot. Yeah, that's what you'regoing to be known for.And one of the interviews, sheAnd one of the interviews, shesaid that she's glad that herassaulter didn't get a slap on the wrist.and she was kind of like, you know,And she was kind of like, you know, nowshe's going to see the workit takes to work incustomer service at a restaurant.service at a restaurant. And then the end of the story is thatsomeone started aGoFundMe account for herand it raised over ten thousand dollars.and it raised over ten thousand dollars.and it raised over ten thousand dollars. Now, I'm glad that you clarified becausethere are some people who are reportingon the story saying that shedidn't get the jail sentencesentence and only had to go work at aand only had to go work at a fast foodrestaurant for two months. In reality, she got both.In reality, she got both.So she got four months. So she got both fourmonths. Yeah, she's getting four. She got fined four months in jail and shehas to work at a fast food restaurantfor two months.restaurant for two months.I think it would have been even better ifEmily Russell still worked at thatChipotle and they made herwork at that same Chipotle.Oh, I would have quit right then andthere if I was Emily. If she had to come back and work with me,If she had to come back and work with me,I would have been like,I would have been like, peace, I'm out.peace, I'm out. Like Iwould not have stayed.Like I would not say if I was EmilyIf I was Emily Russell, like a 26 yearold being able toboss around a 39 year oldboss around a 39 year oldwho like assaulted you like that's somejust desserts right there.Like, OK, I'd be pettyas hell with that person.OK, that that in thatdynamic, then I agree. If I had to manage her like my assaulterIf I had to manage herlike my assaulter and be like, and be like, what arewhat are you going to do now?You want me to call thejudge? Mm hmm. Yeah, exactly. You better pick up that fucking chicken. That's right. Yeah. But like, it's just nuts like there. There's people just peoplePeople just people arejust upset these days.Doesn't it feel like that?Doesn't it feel like that?Like people are just mad nowadays and andespecially around the holiday season.100 percent.someone who was aSomeone who is a Starbucks employee onTikTok, she was saying like. She was saying like, the number of timesThe number of timesI've had to soft parentfully grown adults because I don't havethis one syrup is ridiculous.- Right.Right. Like like she's just saying likepeople don't know how to acceptaccept that this thing, that you can't havethis thing at this moment.you can't have this thing at this moment. And and when you don't know how to acceptit, you don't know how to process that.you get angry and youYou get angry and you start throwingthings and that's what they learn.Maybe as kids, they don't know how tocommunicate their feelings. We just give people too much choice.or how to process them.We give people way too much choice. We give people way too much choice.Like you ever see those people who go toStarbucks and they're like,I want a caramel macchiato with and thenthey list off like 10 different things.like 10 different things. And then at the end,And then at the end, they have the gallto put the term upside down.put the term upside down.Do you know what upside down means?- I don't know what that means, no.- Okay, so there are drinks at Starbuckswhere the main ingredient,a caramel macchiato would have caramel.like a caramelmacchiato would have caramel.a caramel macchiato would have caramel. So someone's like absolutely into sugarand just wants thatsweetness all the time.Like they have to dig tothe bottom of the thingbecause all the carameljust sits on the bottom.just sits on the bottom.Well, you can tell Starbucksto actually make your drink in reversein reverse so that theso that the caramel's at the top instead.caramel's at the top instead.- Uh-huh.- And that's just, Imean, I'm not fat shaming,I'm just using the terminology.Like that's the fattest thing you can do.Like that's the...(laughing)(both laughing)And then you have like 10And then you have like 10adjustments to this one drinkand then you say upside down. And then like, how do you even knowif that person got oneof those things wrong?Because there's so many adjustments.- If they're asking forall of that, they would know. That's the worst part of it.Like it has only two pumps of caramel.Like it has only two pumps of caramel.Like it has only two pumps of caramel.I need five.I need five.(both laughing)Like, and listen, theseAnd listen, these arepeople that probably golike all the time every day sometimes.day sometimes, you know.- That's, yeah, that is true.- People on theirStarbucks, people on their Starbucks, you don't play people on their Starbucks.you don't play people on their Starbucks. That's what's wild. And people who go to Dunkin just don't,Marvin likes Dunkin, but he likes the,Marvin likes Dunkin'.He loves pumpkin spice. It's his thing, right? It's his thing, right?- Marvin, you a basic bitch?- Marvin, you a basic bitch? She said, don't go to Dunkin, she said. No, I'm just kidding. She said, don't go to Dunkin, she said.(both laughing)(both laughing)She said, don't go to Dunkin, she said.Moving on.- Moving on.(upbeat music)(upbeat music) There's a lot of hate(upbeat music) There's a lot of hatetowards Android in general,at least in the US.People who have iPhones are kind of like,And regardless of what you like,And regardless of what you like,I can't stand peoplewho have green bubbleswhether you use Android or iPhone, all OSs are beautiful. All OSs matter.fuck you, I do what I want. All OSs are valid. This is the energyI'm putting out on this.- Clip this, clip this.(both laughing)(both laughing)- I'm gonna clip that.- I'm gonna clip that.Regardless of what youlike, if you work in deliveries, you're dashing, Ubering or whatever, you're dashing, Ubering or whatever, you need a phone, youyou need a phone, youyou need a phone, youneed to have an app,and it'll work on both, and it'll work on both,Android or iPhone, whatever. You can still work,You can still work, you can still do stuff. This next story, a woman in DCwho didn't give her name to the news, who didn't give her name to the news,so we don't know who her name is,so we don't know who her name is,she's doing Uber Eats and Instacartreally late at night, going into the morning, going into the morning.and her husband callsher, husband of the year, and you're about to find out why.Husband is amazing. You know, you were working,Says, "I'll meet you atthe front of our apartment.front of our apartment,"I'll go park your car for"I'll go park your car foryou so you can get insideyou so you can get insideyou so you can get insideand be relieved from work, right?"and be relieved from work," right? So she the thing.Like no one tells youthat you will eventuallyhave to think about that.- Yeah, and this is true.Like a YouTube, running a YouTube channeland living literallyeverything that a business needs.Marketing, PR, sales, because you have to pitch yourself. You have to get those sponsorships. So it's a lot of Let me justsay that. But all ofthe other stuff is still,it's still based upon just the way theworld has worked formany, many years. You stillhave to make a company, you still have todo your taxes, youstill have to do all theseother things. Yeah. So like, yeah, aseasy as it is to makecontent now, you could doit literally with your phone. glassesI like wearing glasses because they makeI like wearing glasses because they makeme see a lot better.because they make me see a lot betterand they look good in stylish. And they look good in stylish. So that's the whole story on BBC.The story continues onReddit, Reddit comments. So the first RedditThe first Reddit comment,The first Reddit comment, comment, top comment on this story, top comment on this story, sounds like something a nerd would do.sounds like something a nerd would do.(laughing)- So mean, dude.Like no wonder BBC took the story downLike no wonder BBC took the story down.- I know.- Because people do this, like people are terrible.Like people are terrible.- I got his, okay, thiskid trying to make a petitionthis kid trying to make a petitionto like change the emojis and whatnot.- It's cute.- It's cute.- It's cute.- It's cute. It's cute. It's a little extra, I'm not gonna lie. It's a little extra, I'm not gonna lie. It's a little extra, I'm not gonna lie.But it's still like, ofBut it's still like, ofcourse they had to take it downbecause people say shit like this.because people say shit like this.(laughing)(laughing)(laughing) - Sounds like something a nerd would do.(laughing)So then, so the next comment is,a real nerd would be toobusy with important shitto even notice something as pedestrian.- Okay, I feel that.- Okay, I feel that.- Okay, I feel that.- Next one, a real nerd would be talking- Next one, a real nerd would be talkingto Unicode consortium, not Apple.to Unicode Consortium, not Apple. And then someone replies,And then someone replies, finally someone said it,finally someone said it,finally someone said it,here I was as a glasseshere I was as a glasseshere I was as a glasseswearing software developer nerd, wearing software developer nerd, wondering why the hellhe was talking to Appleabout changing emoji Uplus one F nine one three.plus one F nine one three. That sounds like petitioning McDonald'sto change beef grading standards.to change beef grading standards.to change beef grading standards. And in Unicode, it'sliterally called nerd face.- This brings up an- This brings up aninteresting thought though.- Yeah, yeah.- I never thought of itthis way until this very storywhere some of the emojis that we havewhere some of the emojis that we haveare kind of mockingin a way, aren't they?in a way, aren't they?- Yeah.- Yeah.- Yeah.- Like the nerd emoji shirt,- Like the nerd emoji, sure.- Like the nerd emoji shirt, they're literally making this emoji,They're literally makingthis emoji, this little icon, this emoticon is whatwe used to call them, that is literally like, ooh, that's the.that is literally like, ooh, that's the.ooh, hoo, like that's the.(laughing)- That's exactly the face.- That's exactly the face.- That's exactly the face.(laughing)(laughing)- That's the face thatthey're trying to emulate.they're trying to emulate. But then we don't do that anymoreWe don't do that anymorebecause it's just kind of meanto like actually say thatabout somebody who's a nerd. But let's be real,But let's be real, like in the real world,we still do that to people.Like if whenever I come up,whenever I with this voicestart talking aboutstart talking aboutsomething deep in tech, like even my friends are just like, okay.At its best, I get called professor. At its worst, they justAt its worst, they justwill literally go nerd. But it's interesting thatBut it's interesting that it's ingrainedit's ingrained in something so,in something so likeubiquitous as like the emoji.Like they called it,what do they call it?The Unicode consortium. This is like one stepLike this is like onestep below a federal thing.Like this is aworldwide global phenomenonwhere we have a little emoticonwhere we have a little emoticonwhere we have a little emoticonthat is literally there to mock somebody.that is literally there to mock somebody.Like that's interesting to meLike that's interesting to methat this kid kind of uncovered that.Because it's an easy change, just takeBecause it's an easy change, just take away the buckteeth, that's all you need. And then why not this? And then why not this? And then why not this?We have a whole lot of other emojithat have likedifferent types of classes. You know, likeYou know, likedifferent shapes of glassesand stuff like that.Meanwhile, think of it this way,Meanwhile, think of it this way,the emoji for the nerd, putthat next to the sunglass, the sunglass wearing emojiwho looks like just cool, like living his life. It's like, what are weIt's like, what are wetrying to say with these emojis? It's interesting, Inever thought of it that wayuntil this very story.- Yeah, I mean, if you think about it,- Yeah, I mean, if you think about it,the emojis kind of put you,I guess it's kind of limitingI guess it's kind of limitingto only have certain emojis to expressto only have certain emojis to expressan endless number of feelings orexpressions that exist.expressions that exist.- Right, it'sreductive, it reduces everythingto like a caricatureto like a caricature of what it truly is.- Yes, exactly, yeah.- Yes, exactly, yeah.Yeah.- And then meanwhile,we have to get creativewith shit like peaches and--(laughing)- Oh my God.- Oh my God.- Oh my God.Do you remember when- Do you remember when- I don't remember whensomeone, I don't remember who, someone changed the peachemoji and everybody got mademoji and everybody got madand they changed it back.- Really?- Yes.- Yes.- I don't remember that.- Yes, oh my God, I haveto look it up right nowbecause that for sure, like on Wikipedia, because that for sure, like on Wikipedia,On Wikipedia, in 2016,in 2016, Appleattempted to redesign the emojito less resemble buttocks.to less resemble buttocks.and attempted to redesign the emojiLater, some fanspraised the emoji's comeback, praised the emoji's comeback, but this was mostlybut this was mostlymet with fierce backlashin beta testing andin beta testing andApple reversed its decisionby the time it went live to public. So they, Apple tried to change the peachSo they, Apple tried to change the peachand wanted to look less like a buttto look less like a butt. And it didn't make itand it didn't make it past beta.past beta, like that's--Like that's--(laughing)(laughing)- You know what they should've done.- You know what they should've done.- You could give thatpeach some buck teeth, that's what you should've done.(laughing) - Buck teeth and glasses on a peach?(laughing) - Buck teeth and glasses on a peach?(laughing)- This nerd ass.(laughing)- Nerd.- With your nerd ass.- With your nerd ass.- With your nerd ass.(laughing) - This poor kid, I hope this kid is okay.Let me just say that.I hope this kid is okay.Because like, we all have those moments.Because like we all have those moments.Everyone is, okay, this issomething I've said very often.Like now that I have aniece, a one year old niece, and I've been talking aboutlike what screen time meansfor kids and all of that.Like, what social media hasLike you and I, like you know, you and I, like, you know, Enrique, youEnrika, you are younger than me,Enrique you are younger than me,but I think you still havehad this era in your lifewhere you didn'twhere the things that youwhere-- - Sure.where the things that you- The things that you didin let's say high school, did in let's say high school, eveneven college to an extent, college to an extent, they didn't necessarily have to be knownthey didn't necessarily haveto be known to everybody elseto everybody else via something like avia something like asocial media platform.social media platform.Even if there was like a Facebook group,Conversely, we also didn't have everyConversely, we'd also didn't have everyother person's opinionother person's opinionopinion and whateverand whatever being thrust upon us.and whatever being thrusted upon us.So I think that everySo I think that every single kid, single kid, person, youth, that every single kid, person, youth, person, youth, whatever you wanna call it,call it, every single kid, every single kid, it should be requiredit should be required thatthat every kid be given theroom to have an awkward phase.- Sure. - Because it's throughthe awkward phase that we learnthat we learn how thehow the real world actually works.- Of course, it's trial and error.- Yeah, right now allkids know what cool iskids know what cool isis because of socialbecause of social media, because of influencers, because of celebrities.because of celebrities. Right now, backRight now, back in the day,Right now, back in theday, I thought it was coolI thought it was cool toto mimic what TheRock does in a WWF ring.in a WWF ring. And while undoubtedlyAnd while undoubtedlyeveryone looks back on it and goes,"Yeah, The Rock was cool back then."yeah, The Rock was cool back then, back then. Actually doing that in class, actually doing that inActually doing that inclass, standing on a desk?class standing on the desk?standing on a desk. Wait,(laughing)standing on a desk. Wait,- Wait, what were you- Wait, what were youdoing standing on a desk?desk? He had this thing where he would- He had this thing where he would havehave his championship belthis championship belt and hewould put it over his shoulderlike this and then he would--- Right.you know, if you smell what The Rock is- You know, if you smilewith The Rock is cooking,he would do the--is cooking, he would do the.You know, and I would dothat when I would do somethingthat I thought was like an achievement.Like if I got like an A plus on a paper,I would stand on my desk andgo like this and then like,(laughing)everyone should have that awkward phase. And now we have kids who are like, they know too much in a way.Like I'm not saying weshouldn't know a lot,but like they know too much.Like they know what cool is.And by knowing what cool is,and I'm putting that in quotation marks, that opens up like they judge others. They judge their peers and judgment.- Not judge, they be roasting, okay? These kids be roasting these days, okay?- Yeah, and now we have the term for it,like which like bullyingused to mean something differentback when we were growing up.But now it's likebullying, once you hear that word,it's like, that sucks. So like every 10 yearold is allowed to havean almost too real thought, like this emoji is hurtful.Like I think every kidshould be able to do that. And if the BBC had totake the story down, take the story down, the pessimist in me isthinking maybe that kidwas getting ridiculed for the fact thathe had this thought. They haven't found their tribe yet. They haven't found their tribe yet.- Right, yes.- Right, yes.Oh my God, I just haddeja vu when you said that. That's so weird.- Because I feel like we'veCause I feel like we've hadthis exact conversation beforeabout finding your tribe.Anyway, continue.- Yeah, no, I think we did.- Yeah, no, I think we did.And then like in a way, like the tribe that we haveis like people like me and you,and like the core group that we have, that we have where we have similar,we have similar likeeither senses of humorhumor or ways that we sort ofor ways that we sort of attack things.attack things. That's what a personality is.That's what a personality is.A personality is not what you wear.A personality is not likethe things that you consume.A personality is howyou react to the thingsthat happen in your life.that happen in your life.Because no two peopleSo God bless this kid.- So God bless this kid.will react to the same eventLike, is he a nerd?Like, is he a nerd?Yes.or thing or whatever it isthat might be in your life(laughing)But is he a nerd for bringing this up?Yes.Yes.personality that is yours. But is that a bad thing? But is that a bad thing?Of course not.But if you're just building a personalityAnd that's the point.that's based upon how everybody else is,And that's the point.that's based upon how everybody else is,like it's mean girls, you know?- And the teacher egging him on,like you should start a petition.Like, it kind of turnsinto mean girls in a way.(laughing) - The teacher had it out for this kid.- Yeah, exactly.- The teacher.- The teacher.(laughing)Let's take another break.(dramatic music)(upbeat music)- We're back and this is the,- So we're back and this is the,we reached the end of the show, but we have just a couple of,I just have a coupleof questions for Joshua.- This has been great by the way,and I'm looking forward to being backand like this is, like I'm enjoying this.Like I'm, and if I can saybefore you ask these questions, which I'm sure are gonna be deepquestions in some way,but I'm proud of youfor having this show. Can I say that?- Yeah.- Yeah.- This, the way that you're handling the, you're handling the, like, like the show and theway that you approach, like making the segmentsand obviously your personalityand your sense of humor, which of course I'm biasedbecause we both havesimilar senses of humor. But it's, it really speaksto how you are as a person. And I think like that's, that's great.Like you are findingyour voice in this show, which I think is pretty great.- Thank you, Joshua.I really appreciate that. That means a lot to me.Like, I, like, thisLike I, like this is another, like full, having you on this show isanother full circle moment.Like, my first one wasLike my first one waslike having Michael Fisheron the show. You know, I admired Michael Fisher a lot.I had him on the show, but to be honest, when I had him on theshow, I was not ready.Like, I did not have stuff prepared.Like my, like I didnot have stuff prepared.I was like scrambling.I was like scrambling.I had been a while since I recordedIt had been a while since I recorded.and I'm not too proud of that episode. And Michael didn't record his video.(laughing)That was a communication issue.I didn't communicate andI didn't like, you know,I didn't follow up andwhatever, but this shit's hard.Podcasting is fucking hard, man.I, that, like, it's soYeah, I really love theYeah, I really love the topic.Yeah, I really love the topic. And just like, tech stillTech still has a placein my heart, but justbut just because I experienced it for, because I experienced itfor like in a certain wayfor a while, I don't know.for a while, I don't know.Like I'm still figuring outhow to break back into it.- Oh, sure.- Oh, sure.Oh, sure. And I feel you so hard there.Cause like the, I'm tryingto find the different waysof approaching the sameof approaching the sameamount or the same tech, the same products, the same content, just in a way that makes me,cause I actually said thisto a couple of our homiesnot too long ago at a show.not too long ago at a show.I don't know if I love this anymore.I don't know if I love this anymore.Or like, I know I'm good at it.And I know that I'm capable of it,but this has been a year, like I said,But this has been a year, like I said,at the beginning, at the top of the show,at the top of theshow, this has been a yearwhere I focused more on mylife than I have on my work. And my life is way better. And my life is way better.Like I'm doing well.I feel fulfilled in a lot ofways when it comes to my life. And then my work has justbeen my work and that's okay. There's nothing wrong with it.It's just, I want to get back to a placein this upcoming year where I'm actuallyloving my work again. And if that means I have to focus on itmore than I focus on mylife, that's okay too, because I have spent 2023making sure my life is good.My life is okay.- Good on you.- Yeah.be that I might have theroom to be able to do thatand by focusing on my workso that my life can still thrive. That might mean I make alittle bit less money, that's fine. That might mean thatlike my internet presencemight not be quite asprominent as it was in the past, but you know what, that's all okaybecause balancingmeans that you don't getliterally everything in either end.- Yeah, I agree. And you know, on a personal level,And you know, on a personal level, like I know you've beenthrough a lot this yearand taking time to focus on yourselfand on your personalstuff is a lot of work. And I'm glad that you'reon the other side of it now.And I'm excited to see what's next.- Same for you too.Like whatever it means foryou to be back in this realm, like we are going to have the biggest,we're not gonna be hung over it the nextday at the checkout, but whatever the next event isthat you and I are actuallyat that same place together, there definitely have to be toast. There definitely have to, like wedefinitely have to like, because we're toast to you returningin the way that you want to return.Like that is significant.- That means so much. And you were one of thepeople that were therewhen I was like thinking of leavingand I was like, I don'tknow about what I wanna do.And I was so, like, I guess I'll explain, like I was working in for a tech blogand I was kind of feelinglike, I was feeling burned outand I was feeling creatively like slumpedand going back inlike doing content againjust didn't, it didn't make sense to me.And it still doesn't.And sometimes I'm like, maybe I should. And then I'm like, but I don't want to.And then it's likethis internal struggle. And it's like, people tellme like, you should do it.You know, go back, you were so good at it.And I'm just like, and I'm still trying to figure it out.And that's the thing is like, I'm stillfiguring out my voice.I'm still figuring out myformat and what I want from this. You made me realize that this is,that I'm on the right track.- Yeah, I think so.And you know, it'll be greatto see where all of that leadsbecause as we as a group, andI'm talking about tech creatorsand content creators and whatnot, there's nothing that werespect more than seeingone of our own forge their own path. And I'm excited to see where yours goes.- I appreciate that.- I appreciate that.- So I guess we can closeThank you.- So I guess we can closeSo I guess we can close outthe show now as we wrap up.I wanted to thank you,I wanted to thank you,Joshua, for being on the show.Joshua, for being on the show.Again, I said this already on the show.I'm so grateful to have you with my life.I'm so grateful, happy with my life. You're a very good friend of mine. You're a very good friend of mine.I love you, seriously.I love you, seriously.- I love you too.- I love you too.- And we are, I'm- And I'm excited for what's next.excited for what's next.I'm excited for ournext episode, honestly.(both laughing)(laughing) Yeah, so we can finish some of the stuffthat we didn't get to cover.Cause I see this is the rundown that Ineed to have preparedfor a show where I'm like, not like,oh, I guess we're done.Cause I don't have enough material left.cause I don't have enough material left.(laughing)You know, so.my rundowns every episode.my rundowns every episode.- Yeah.- Yeah, yeah, of course. And you're, and this was good.- And this was good, like it was nice.Like it was nice. And if there's too much, then you just pick it up later. And then there you go.You have, you'reliterally stacking content.- Oh, YouTuber talk.(laughing)(both laughing) You're literally stackingLiterally stackingcontent, which is great.content, which is great.- Yeah, yeah.So thanks again, Joshua, for being hereSo thanks again, Joshua, for being hereand hope to have you on again. And with that, we'll be signing off.And with that, we'll be signing off.I haven't thought of aI haven't thought of asnarky sign off line yetfor CyberNut.for Cyber Nut.I guess you've been cyber nutted.I guess you've been cyber nutted.I don't know.I don't know.I don't know.- What would be the other one?I gotta think about that too.I gotta think about that too.- I guess, I'll grab you a towel.- I guess I'll grab you a towel.I don't know.I don't know.(laughing)(laughing)(both laughing)- All right, thank you so much forAll right, thank you so much forlistening to Cyber Nut.Now go clean up.(laughing)
