Enrique:

Hello and welcome to the How Do You Tech podcast. My name is Enrique and I'll be your host on this experience today. Um, this episode is recorded back in October, 2019, where I interview my friend Hazie about her first impressions with the iPhone 11 Pro Max. So please, Welcome. This is the first episode of the How Do You Tech podcast With me today, I have my longtime friend, Hazie Hazie. Can you introduce yourself to the

Hazzy:

audience? My name's Haslin. Um, I'm from Nicaragua and I was raised here in

Enrique:

Miami. It's all about the South Florida up in here. It's all about the three oh five. Yeah, I was born in three oh five too. A little background on this podcast. My mission with this podcast is to make technology more entertaining for people to relate more to the stories and the experiences that everyday consumers have with technology because, um, myself as a techie, I work for a smartphone blog and I write about smartphones, but I'm really just given these things to borrow and to write about, and I don't really experience the whole buying process and the research process, and. is this thing worth my money? So I'm trying to get more experiences and opinions of the actual consumer, uh, which is you. So, um, starting off, I know that you got the new iPhone 11, pro Max. So tell me about that and tell me about your decision. Why did you, um, what, what, what did you like about the phone that you want that made you want to get the, the Promax?

Hazzy:

Right. So I had the iPhone 10., right. And I didn't upgrade last year cuz I was like, it doesn't look like I should, like nothing caught my attention. Right. So I was like, I'm not gonna upgrade. But now this time I saw, I don't know about the camera, the night mode. And I was like, okay, it looks like the camera is like a big major upgrade as well. And you know, I had the little, it was like, it wasn't the plus or anything, it was just the regular, um, iPhone 10. So I was like, okay, maybe I should go bigger. And everybody, everybody tells me, you know, you need to get the plus size cuz it's like, it's just, it was life changing. And I'm like, okay, let's see about that. So I was like, let me just go ahead and get the, the max and see what it, what it's all about. Mm-hmm., so you

Enrique:

had the iPhone 10 when it first. Like when the first time the Apple like released this brand new design. Right. I got it. Right. It was completely different. And that's the one that you got? Mm-hmm.. So with the iPhone 10, you saw the iPhone 10 s come out. And what did you think of that upgrade? I guess you can put in air quotes, like that wasn't really a

Hazzy:

physical Right. Nothing caught my attention. That was like, I don't even remember what was like new about it, but I was like, no, I, I'll just wait. And I was just like, really Like, not interested. I was like, forget it. I'm just gonna keep the 10. This is still brand new. I kind of like, like the 10. So let's just, and I think the 10 was the first one that didn't have the button right.

Enrique:

Yeah. Yeah, the 10. The 10 is the first iPhone that got rid of the home button in favor of Apple's new gesture system getting around. So actually I wanna touch up on that a little bit. What was your experience moving from the home button to the swiping navigation of the iPhone 10? At

Hazzy:

first it was weird, right? Cuz you're so used to the button, right? But then I was like, oh my God. It's like way much better. Like forget the button. It gives you so much screen space, right? Like, Yeah, button was blocking, but like, I like the whole like flipping through, I guess.

Enrique:

So there's actually a lot of customers that. Don't wanna upgrade because they don't want their iPhone to change how it behaves. They just want the home button. The rumors are that Apple's gonna release a new updated version of the iPhone eight with the home button, and they hope that if when they do that, that customers that are still on like the iPhone five or like the iPhone seven, and they don't want to change to the swipey gestures. um, they want them to just change to that so that they can, you know, keep selling them a new phone. I guess that's kind of work.. Okay. So going back to the, um, to your upgrading, what was your thought on switching to the bigger size from the small iPhone? Like from the small, uh, iPhone 10?

Hazzy:

It's been a challenge actually. This big phone now, like I have small hands. How long

Enrique:

have you had the 10 Pro now? The Promax.

Hazzy:

Oh, since it came out?

Enrique:

Literally it's been like, uh, not even like three weeks then.

Hazzy:

Yeah. Okay. So I know we're not supposed to be texting and driving and I know it's like a law now or whatever, but you know, a bitch, you gotta change her music sometimes in the middle of the road, right? Yeah. You know, another suggestion that they told me was like, oh, get a pop socket. But what I don't like about the pop socket is that when I lay my phone on the, uh, it's like wobbly and that my OCD on that is just no

Enrique:

I feel you completely on the pop socket, they also have these like ring things

Hazzy:

that Yeah, but like if I put my phone and it's like, No, I need, I need it to be flat. I don't know. I'm just

Enrique:

weird like that. There's a new like version of the pop socket. It's like this pad that you put on the back of your phone, but it's like flat and it's like, Wide. I mean, it's still, it's still not gonna be as flat as like if you just didn't have a pop socket at all, to be honest. Um, the iPhone does have some, uh, does have some features that I think you can just double tap on the little home bar. And I think it just brings the whole like, yeah, interface down if you just like double or triple tap on the home bar. Does that work? Double, triple, top. Just kidding. So I think there's a feature, it's, I think it's an accessibility feature, but you have to enable it in the settings before you can use it. I.

Hazzy:

Yeah, cuz I find myself doing too much of like, like fuck, Enrique: you know, do what we Finger gymnastics,. Hazzy: Right. I bet you already got arthritis , you know?

Enrique:

Oh my gosh. You've been an iPhone user for how long now?

Hazzy:

Since like the iPhone

Enrique:

two. Since the second iPhone? Yeah. What did you have before that?

Hazzy:

I had the, I, I think it was the side. Was it the sidekick?

Enrique:

Which sidekick was it? Do you.. Was it purple? I

Hazzy:

think I still have it. No, it wasn't purple. It was gray.

Enrique:

Yeah, it was gray. So it was probably the sidekick too. Uhhuh., okay. I had that same one and I had it for two years. I loved the Sidekick though. It was a really interesting phone. It was like before smartphones were a thing, right? It was like the smartphone for like anybody, cuz there was like Snoop Dogg was like the spokesperson. Like everybody needs a sidekick. Like you remember. I don't remember Snoop

Hazzy:

Dogg. You don't remember.

Enrique:

Snoop Dogg was in commercials for the sidekick. How funny. I don't remember. Yeah. It's interesting to see, you know, what the next design of the iPhone's gonna be. Um, you know, is iPhone gonna have, is are they gonna make an even bigger screen? Like do you think that that's something that people would buy if it was even bigger than this one that you have now got an

Hazzy:

iPad? I don't know, like why point you wanna go bigger? I think that this is, Big enough. I don't know. Yeah, maybe they will cuz I, I guess people like the whole big screen idea. Um, I would say I would like to see it maybe skinnier, like

Enrique:

slimmer. Like slimmer. Not as, not as thick. Yeah. So let me talk about the thickness of the, the new iPhone then. So a lot of people in like websites and like tech bloggers and people who just leave comments are just like, we don't want thinner phones. We want better battery. So do you feel like you. Rather have a thinner phone than more battery or, and how has your battery life experience been so far with the 11 pro max? Well,

Hazzy:

yeah, battery life is very important. I would rather battery life versus a skinny phone for sure. And I actually think that this, it's a major upgrade on the battery life cuz I, I don't even, I hardly charge my phone like it lasts all day and it's not gonna die and I don't charge it in.

Enrique:

The 10. How? Like the 10, like say, let's say you plugged it in, like you went to work. When? When? What time would it usually be dying?

Hazzy:

Mm. Like by the time I get outta work,

Enrique:

it's pretty much dead. It's pretty much dying. So now how much percent do you have when you leave work with your 10 pro? It's not even like halfway. It's not even halfway. Mm-hmm. and you, so then you could probably just like leave, like not even charge it until the next day. Right.. Okay. Yeah. And that's something that a lot of people have been saying, like the iPhone 1111 Pro and the 11 Pro Max have all had really good battery life. And that's not something that Apple, um, has done in the past. Like it's always, it's taken them this long for them to really focus. On the battery and, and improve on battery life. Cause I was a bid complain and even Samsung did a campaign once and they, uh, they referred to iPhone uses as wall huggers. And they just showed like a commercial of like, uh, people with iPhones like looking for outlets at the airport, like trying to find a charge while like, like someone would just put their Samsung phone out, like, I'm still good. And then just continue, like, that was their jab at Apple at that time. So your iPhone promax came with a, the new, uh, fast charger. So what's your experience with that? Because the little tiny block before you would charge your, your, your 10 pretty slow I'm sure. Yeah.

Hazzy:

Um.. So I usually just charge my phone like at night when I'm going, you know, to sleep. So I don't really know how fast it's charging. Okay. And since like, I haven't experienced the, you know, during the day that it, it's dying that I have to like charge it and see oh my God, and wait for it. Mm-hmm.. Enrique: So it's always been habit At night and then just not worry about it until the next day. Mm-hmm., there's like these Chinese companies that are putting out these phones that have like super fast charging, like, um, this is one plus phone that I. Has this charging where it's like, um, like I can plug it in like while I'm getting ready, like 15 minutes and then I'll have like 45% from like 10%. Like it's ridiculously fast like these days. And it also took Apple longer to get fast charging on, uh, on their phones. And the first ones that supported it was the iPhone eight. But of course they didn't include the fast charger in the. Until this year they finally included the faster charger in the box. That big block thing. That big block. Yeah. So you noticed it was a bigger block? Yeah. I was like, what is this? What is this ? Um, let's see. So what color did you get? I got it in black. You got it in black. You weren't about the midnight green life. No. I was like, I know it looks like dark cargo green, so I'm not even gonna go with it. And know it was, it is. I wasn't feeling it. Um, I had my, my 10 is white, so I was like, let me, since I already have a white and actually owned the 10 and I still haven't decided whether I want to sell it or keep it. So I don't know. But since I had a white phone already, I was like, let me go with a black.

Enrique:

Okay. Um, so now, um, you just got this new phone. So tell me about your experie. and how you felt like unboxing it like I used to, um, because I switched phones so often. I don't anymore, but I used to grow an emotional attachment to my phone. Do you think there, do you feel like you had an emotional attachment to your old phone? I do.

Hazzy:

You do? I do. Maybe that's why I don't wanna sell it, but then I'm like, damn, I need the money. So yeah, I want to sell it. Right, but how much can I get for it? So I, I remember at and t they told me they will give me three 50.. It's like, damn, I paid a thousand for this. You know, like, but

Enrique:

I think, I think Apple had a trade-in, apple had a trade-in. Well, it's too late now. Apple had a trade-in program where I think they were offering six 50 off if you traded in the 10. Wow. Yeah. And, uh, the, so the iPhone can also be purchased through Apple, like you can. upgrade through Apple. You don't have to do through at and t anything. I have always wondered about that. Yeah. So basically, um, instead of going to the carrier and getting it from the carrier, you just get it directly from Apple and then you pay per month to Apple. And then you also pay like an extra monthly fee for Apple Care if you wanna include AppleCare. So everything's just done through Apple. And then like you just pay your service through whoever you want. And if you want to, you can even like switch carriers all the time. And the phone that you buy from Apple's unlocked. So Apples made it easier to upgrade directly through them. Um, so that's something that you can look at next year. So if you don't want to have to deal with at and t, but I'm sure, I mean, I don't know. What was your experience upgrading with at and t., Hazzy: uh, well at first I was gonna, making like the line and everything, but then I was like, wait, I, I didn't check this before, but I needed to check, like, to see how much I needed to pay off from the other one. Okay. Um, cuz I knew I was about to like finish paying it off since I didn't upgrade to have the next plan, right? Mm-hmm.. So I had like two payments left, so I wasn't able to upgrade online, so I had to like call somebody and they were like, oh, you have to go on the, in the store. We could do it here. But it was, it was taking too long online and over the phone. So I was like, I'm just gonna go to the store. I'm just gonna figure it out of the store. Right. Yeah. I'll just have someone else figure it out. Right?? Hazzy: Yeah. So when I went over there, you know, the lady was like, yeah, you only have two payments left if you want to get the new appoint. Pay it off and then just get the new phone. So that's what I did. So there's a, there's a long standing rumor or a long standing, like, I guess, I don't know if it's a stereotype or a rumor or just like a way for people to make fun of Apple every time a new iPhone is released. The iPhone. Your iPhone gets slower. Is that a thing? For real? Do you feel like that's happening? I do, yeah.

Hazzy:

I do. It it, me and my friends are always like, oh my God, my phone is tripping out. And it's like, oh, that's all Apple. They slow your shit down so you could get the new one.. But yeah, that's true. I don't know if it's because they're updating the software or whatever it is, but like it does, it freezes. Um, even like the signal, like at my job, like I'm, my job is always fine with signal, but there's like certain times that it's just like dead or whatever and we're like, what the hell? What's going on? You know?

Enrique:

Why is it dead now and not like before? Yeah. Okay. I understand. Um, that's fu , that's funny. And you know, that actually happened where they were caught, apple was caught. I don't remember. I remember one time we were having a conversation like at your house with I think Juju was there and he was talking about how I can't play this game. The update slowed down my phone and I have to get my battery replaced so before I could play this game, . Oh God, yeah.. So, so yeah, they were caught because Apple was like, um, Yeah, we had, we admit it, we optimized the software so that the battery doesn't like prematurely die. And then they're like, whoa, this is a big deal. Why did you not tell us? And it was a huge thing. And Apple released, I don't remember if they, apple tries to deny stuff and not apologize, but then they ended up like making their battery replacement program cheaper, like $29 to replace the battery. And then when you replace the battery and then they made it an option so that when you get an update you can turn off the option that slows your phone down. Cuz it still does it. So after like a year or two that you have your phone mm-hmm., um, and it ever slows down, then it would be like, oh, maybe it's because of that, because it detects a number of battery cycles or something. With the battery voltage, it's not putting out as much anymore, so it can't run at full speeds or something. Hmm. So now that you have this, this brand new iPhone, it's like the top of the line, latest technology and, and now that you have this bigger screen, is there anything that you can do now with the bigger screen that you couldn't do with the smaller one? Or is there anything that you like to do now that it has a bigger

Hazzy:

screen? I've actually caught myself now playing more games.. Okay. Which I wouldn't do. What kind of games are you playing? So I got Frogger , it's like a new updated version of Frogger. It's like, um, a modern day Frogger, like the original Frogger,

Enrique:

but it's like, yeah. Updated it and brand new. Right.

Hazzy:

Okay. And you have to like, collect little frogies throughout the, your mission It's kind of cool, but, okay. Yeah. I don't know. Like, um, apple now has this thing that has like a, it's called Arcade, where you pay., I think it's like 4 99 and you could play all the games that are in there. And I think I heard my brother saying that they have call up duty now. Mm-hmm. And he plays with his control, like his PlayStation control and he actually likes, he has a iPhone 10 R. Okay.

Enrique:

And Mario Cart. Oh yes. Mario Cart. So Mario Kart just came out and um, it's interesting you say this frog thing, cuz I feel like just games and anything media in general has been banking on nostalgia. And people know who Frogger is, who Frogger was like from the back in the arcade game days. And now Apple's launching this, um, this arcade like Apple Arcade service that lets you play these games. Google has something similar as well. They're calling it Play Pass, where you can download certain apps and games and without ads, and you can play 'em without ads.. Yeah. So like a lot of these things, like even just the way that we buy apps, like you would pay like 1 99 90 9 cents per app and you're like, I'm not trying to pay $3 for an

Hazzy:

app. Right? And then between you pay 3 99, but then you, they charge you like, you know, oh, you wanna get this cool outfit? Oh, but that's $5 , right? Like so in app purchases, in our purchases. So it's like, This is not only 2 99. You know, I thought this game was free . Right? Just cause I want this cute outfit now you wanna be, you know, charging me extra

Enrique:

So, ga Okay, so games is something that you do now with this bigger screen. Is there anything that you've seen other people do with their iPhone that you think, man, that's cool, but I wish I knew how to do that. Or I wish I, I could do, or maybe what's something that you wish you could do with your iPhone that you still can't. like do

Hazzy:

I guess the camera, like I'm not. Like I, I, I would ha like I have, I go out and like, I barely take pictures. Right. Okay. And I feel like now that I have this like really good camera or whatever, like I wanna learn how to take pictures and like, um, use its potential like, you know, like brightness. Mm-hmm. and, you know, whatever gadgets it gives me. Um, the slowmo camera or the night mode camera. Okay. Like, I feel like you're super stuck at the night mode camera and I could take better pictures, but I guess just learning the.

Enrique:

Just learning the camera. Yeah. Have you tried, so have you tried the, I think there's a wide angle on the front now. I have, yeah. You tried it. It's, you get, you can get way more of your friends in the picture.

Hazzy:

Right. I even saw this thing on Twitter of somebody like, I don't know if you've seen it. Uh, I don't think I have somebody using the wide, um, camera. While holding a banana and it kind of like stretched out the banana to make it seem like it's bigger uhhuh So, um, the, I think what it said on Twitter was like, oh, ladies get ready for the dick pics, right?. So this thing is supposedly, I haven't tried it, but supposedly.. It makes things like it exaggerates

Enrique:

the size of things, things because it's right up in the, in front of the camera. Mm-hmm., which is kind of scary

Hazzy:

for real, because take advantage of your dick pics. The next thing I know, like , what happened to all that though? You know? So,, Enrique: so what, what would it play with this camera more and like encourage you to take more pictures. I think Apple offers like workshops at their stores that you can go to and like for free and attend, like they can show you like, oh wow, the really basics. I'm not sure if they have one for like photography, but I'm, I'm sure there's something. Um, apple, like one time I was in Chicago and I went to an Apple store and they were having, they were having, uh, a little seminar for kids, like there was kids in the audience. Oh, that's cute. And they were showing them how to, like, I think they were doing little like softwares or programs or I think they were making music or something. And this one kid came up and he had this song that was like super annoying and repetitive. So they started playing it and. after like 10 seconds, the guy's like, oh, that was great. That was great. Thank you. Just like cut 'em off. Cause that was so bad.. Um, oh, that's cute. I didn't know that.

Enrique:

Yeah, so they have like workshops where you can, I mean, I don't know what kinda workshops they have, like for Mac, for all their products. Basically like teach you how to use, um, their products. Uh, you know, they have a big, like Apple store has a lot of employees. Yeah. Like, one time I was at the Apple store, uh, I think the iPhone seven had just come out and I, my uncle was visiting from Brazil and he wanted to buy a six s cuz the new one had just come out. So the other one was cheaper and he wanted to take it back to Brazil. So, uh, I went and I was like, oh man, this, this Apple store's gonna be packed. I'm not gonna be able to get, like, I'm, I'm gonna be waiting here forever. Right.. So like I go there and there's like, you know, everything is going on with the new iPhone and this guy just swos out of the, the crowd and was like, can I help you guys with something? And then we're just like, yeah, we just won an uh, an iPhone six s unlocked. And they're like, okay, cool. I'll just, just a couple minutes. We were out of there in like five minutes, like done, like paid for it and everything. Like I was like, the way that it works there is really efficient, like, it's like scary, efficient sometimes. Like how do they manage all these people? It's like, it's

Hazzy:

crazy. Yeah. It was funny because one of my coworkers told me, She went to go try to buy an iPhone, the new iPhone for her daughter. Mm-hmm.. And she went to the Apple store, but she went like, I guess after work, and it wasn't, it was more like in the evening, um, like seven ish. And she said that, um, , you know, she got turned away. Not She got turned away. Yeah. Like she says that there was a lot of people, Uhhuh already signed up. Okay. And that they weren't going to be able to attend

Enrique:

her. Oh. So she didn't have a pre-order. She

Hazzy:

went, didn't to go wait, didn't, she didn't have a pre-order, she didn't have an appointment. Nothing like that. Okay. But you know, she was waiting in line. Mm-hmm., um, after a certain, like, you know, like couple of people in front of her, they were like, oh no, that's it. Like we can't take any more people. Oh wow.

Enrique:

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cuz everybody line like people. People have their creators and they come in when they have their appointments and then people that line up because they don't have either one. And then if they run out, then that's it. Sorry, you guys, every time

Hazzy:

I've actually visited the Apple store, I always get an an appointment cuz that's like kind of like, you know,

Enrique:

which Apple store do you go to? A Ventura. Um, yeah. Aura as closest to Miami. Okay. Yeah. Um,

Hazzy:

or Miami Beach if I want to, you know, feel

Enrique:

cute and go over there. You wanna feel cute and walk around? Walk around on Lincoln Road. Lincoln Road. Yeah. So Haie, what kind of user are you on? I like what kind of iPhone user are. What do you do mostly on your phone? Like is it mostly like social media? Mostly like

Hazzy:

I, social media. I

Enrique:

listen to music a lot. Listen to music? Mm-hmm.. What um, I mean what subscription do you use for music? I have the

Hazzy:

Apple I, the Apple and Apple Music.

Enrique:

Apple music? Yeah. Mm-hmm., I think I had actually asked you about this before and you chose to use Apple Music cuz it was just more convenient cuz you also had the Apple Watch, right? And you still have the Apple Watch now? I do. Which one do you have? I have the series three. The series three? Mm-hmm . So do you, so how's that one? How's. Purchase going on for you? Like, is it, is it still like a good purchase? Like you're glad you made it? Yeah. Yeah. Um, so, so do you think the Apple Watch is necessary? Do you think it's something that people need or specific people might need? Or what do you think about the Apple Watch General? For

Hazzy:

me, the Apple Watch was. Like a very good purchase. Um, I actually found myself with the Apple Watch getting more encouraged, um, to go out and maybe like have an outdoor walk or, you know, be a little bit more active because um, it tells you like, hey, um, maybe like a brisk, you know, 25 minute walk, um, to set cuz you set your goal of how many mm-hmm. um, calories or whatever, how many steps and., I feel like it's gotten me more motivated to go to the gym too. Okay. Like, you know, I go to the gym now and then it's like, oh, you know, good workout. Here's, you know, your little, like,

Enrique:

um, it's your little hype team basically

Hazzy:

on your wrist. Yeah. Basically. Right. Um, it's very convenient for me at work. Mm-hmm., right. So like, if I'm in meetings or whatever, I, you know, get the message. I don't have to be like looking at my phone and being rude or whatever. Mm-hmm.. Um, so it, it works for me at work., um, especially at work. Um, what else? I mean, I do like, I, I kind of wanted it to upgrade because of what it has now. Mm-hmm., like with the whole, I don't think it's called ekg. The e ECG thing. Yeah.

Enrique:

Electro, yeah. The e ecg. The electrocardiogram.

Hazzy:

Yeah. And just cuz the screen is a little bigger. Mm-hmm., I kind of wanted to upgrade, but I'm like, my three is working fine. And it, you know, it, it. It's doing what I needed to do. Mm-hmm., like, you know, like, I don't think I have heart problems or whatever, but , , I, I think it's a cool thing to have. Mm-hmm., you know, to be able. Check your heart or whatever, even though I wouldn't be knowing what the hell I'm looking at,

Enrique:

but I always see stories online about like, the Apple Watch Save my Life. I don't know if you've ever seen those. Yeah,

Hazzy:

I've seen, I saw the commercial and let me tell you, like, I think I was on my period, but I was like, I even busted a tear. I was like, , this is so cute. You know? Like, this is so, yeah. Yeah. I think I saw, um, a story of some girl that she was like pregnant or something and, um, It was giving her like, uh, something about her heart and when she went to the, to the doctor, it, something was really going on with her. And she, she had to have surgery and they even, like, she had her baby and everything. Oh my gosh. But yeah. Yeah. And it was all because of the, you know, the app watch and I think it has now the falling detecting thing.

Enrique:

Now it has the fall detection. Yeah.

Hazzy:

Which this one doesn't have, but like,

Enrique:

yeah. So the Apple Watch can like detect like irregularities in your heart rate. Like if your, if, if it like sees you moving, like if it knows you're moving around, but your heart rate is not reflecting that if it's too low, I think it is, they'll be like, yo, like check your heart. Something's up. Like, right. That's not normal. Or I think it's like if it's too high and you're not moving, , it's also like something to be concerned about. And then the fall detection can, like, I think, uh, I think somebody, there was a post where somebody, uh, had just like, I think fallen off their bike and then the Apple watch like contacted their close like family members. And then like, I think even like called 9 1 1, like immediately, like I think it's after, like after you fall. I think if you don't respond to the watch after like a couple minutes or something, it will like, it can call emergency social services for you. And that's like some. You know, that's, that, that's something that could be useful for like an old person that's living by themselves of vto or if you, or if you fall

Hazzy:

in your head and you're not

Enrique:

really conscious or if you're unconscious Yeah. As well. But I think

Hazzy:

Samsung or Google or whatever, they have the same, something similar or something like a 9 1 1

Enrique:

type of thing. Yeah. And I, I believe the iPhone has it as well, and it's called sos. Yes. It's basically like,

Hazzy:

so I've gotten him from, Yeah. When he's really not in trouble and I'm like, oh my God, what's going on? You know, like, and it even takes like a

Enrique:

picture. Yeah. If you're like walking alone by yourself somewhere, or if like something happens to you, you just like, you can solely like press like a certain, I think it's just like you press your button, the button three times or something, and you hold it and then it will like send your, your preferred contacts, your location. It'll send like, like, it's like, like something's going on. Like, like mm-hmm., I'm here, let. I'm letting you know what's, like something's about to go down. Um, and yeah, uh, some Samsung watches, uh, a lot of Samsung watches have that now. Um, I was actually gonna ask you about Samsung watches. I'm sure now everybody knows that you see Apple watches everywhere. Everybody's wearing an Apple watch. Right. But do you ever notice anybody wearing like a non-Apple watch that's also like a smart watch, like a Samsung watch? Yeah, I have a couple

Hazzy:

of friends and I've seen some coworkers who have, um, the Samsung watch, the

Enrique:

Samsung one. Mm-hmm.. Have you seen any other brands or like anyone that Oh, I've never seen that before. Like that you not write? No, it's usually just whether Apple or Samsung, apple or Samsung. Okay. So going back to the question about usability and the bigger screen, is there anything.. Um, actually, I was gonna ask you, do you ever even use a computer at home anymore now that the iPhone can do so many different things? Like, I don't, you don't even like go on the computer like even to write, write an email or like, no, I do

Hazzy:

everything through my phone. Everything can just, I think I even like try to work on my resume on my phone through like pages.

Enrique:

Yeah. And you got it done. You got the little change done and sent it through. Yeah. Yeah. So is there anything that your, that your iPhone doesn't do that you wish it could do? Is there anything that you're like, Ugh, I need a computer for this. I can't, I can't do this on the, on the phone? That's a tough question. It's a tough question. You can pretty much do everything on your phone already.

Hazzy:

Yeah, pretty much. Maybe like, I don't know. Cuz you could even do like FaceTime. It's not like, I would say like, like, , you

Enrique:

know, Skype with like the much crap of your camera on the laptop, right?, yeah. No, yeah. Yeah. And you know, all the communication apps are just like everywhere and available and easy to use just from a smartphone. Like,

Hazzy:

I remember, and I haven't even thought about like, I'm like, oh my God, I want a MacBook. Cause I used to have a MacBook Uhhuh , um, and I'm like, but what do I need one for? You know, like literally it's, they're so expensive too. You know, like, it's like what I don't even do, like editing or anything like that. Mm-hmm. that I, I guess that you would., you know? Yeah. Like a MacBook Pro or something for editing movies or like editing music and things like that. I don't know,

Enrique:

for that wave of content creators, right? Mm-hmm.. So there's actually another question that I wanted to ask you about the iPhone, and it's something that a lot of people have opinions about. What do you think of the iPhone as a status symbol? Like do you think people like people, obviously, you know, if you wanna buy an iPhone, Because, you know, it makes you feel good. Like, this makes me happy. I wanna buy this product to enjoy it. That's, that's, you know, that's one thing I can respect that. But do you think that people still buy iPhones as a status symbol? Like, this is actually this lemme and lemme tell you why I brought this up, because there's been studies done, uh, I guess like surveys in high schools mm-hmm., where kids are like making fun of like, kids that don't have iPhones. Like, ah, you don't have iPhone. You don't have iPhone. I think

Hazzy:

iPhone users could be. They could be bullies. Yeah, because I see it with my friends too. Like, Enrique: like, what do they say? What do your friends say about like, well, so my friends who have Android versus my friend who have, who they have iPhone, were always like, oh, you know, they'll always be like, oh, but you know, Androids have it, had it first, or whatever. You know,

Enrique:

iPhone did it first, or, uh, Android did it first. Android

Hazzy:

did it first. Yeah. And we're like, whatever, you know, like , um, . But I know we always, like, for example, Nick, like, oh no, you can be part of the group chat because you don't have an iPhone. Right., like . It's funny you say he's like, Tam, now I, now I want to get an iPhone just because I wanna be all up in it and be in that group chat. Right., it's funny you

Enrique:

say that cuz specifically that like there have been people who have been like, um, they add everybody to a group chat. and then, um, one person doesn't have an iPhone, so they're like, forget this. And then they just make a group chat and Liz leave the other person out, like, yes, that happens on a lot. That happens. That happens. And that's

Hazzy:

like, yeah, that does happen. It's like, well, you can't be part of our group chat because you don't have an iPhone. You know, like, I don't want my bubbles to be green. Right.. Enrique: So what is, what's Like, what's your opinion about, or you can do like things like, you know, like on the iPhone group chat, right. That you could do like little, the hahas on certain things. Mm-hmm. or, um, use the effects and things like that. Cause it doesn't work with somebody who doesn't have an iPhone. Right.

Enrique:

And then like obviously they have other features like location sending, find my friends and Right. And that's all part of like Apple. You know, apple to apple, literally apple to apple ecosystem. Like, oh, you can use this feature because your friend has an Apple phone. And a lot of people have really, I guess, grown to use or gotten used to using those. And then when they don't see it, they're like, Ugh. Like, ugh, you don't have it. Like, I don't want to. Like, I don't want to, I don't wanna fuck with you . Right?

Hazzy:

Yeah. I do think that there's a lot of, a lot of that, of the group chat. But now, I mean, now we just do a, a WhatsApp group chat, so it's interesting. Very happy.

Enrique:

So it's interesting you say that because here in South Florida, a lot of our family members have WhatsApp because it's been around since like the days of the Blackberry. Right. And it was multi-platforms so people could use it. Smartphones and Android phones and the early iPhones at the time. And because it was a way for people to make phone calls and like chat without using like mi like minutes and like especially with

Hazzy:

our, our families are out

Enrique:

of the country, our families that are overseas. So we didn't have to get those calling cards from the gas station. Right.

Hazzy:

Oh my God. We haven't used calling cards in forever. We don't need to

Enrique:

anymore. Yeah, we don't need to anymore. So, yeah.

Hazzy:

I remember those things.

Enrique:

$5. I just want the $5

Hazzy:

card. Like girl Ala USA . They would have like weird names,. Enrique: Uh, so, um, but people in like Midwest Chicago stuff, like they don't use any of that. They just all use iMessage. And if you don't have iMessage, like, eh, whatever. They don't, they don't, they don't care. Like there's no, no one's gonna download a WhatsApp for like one person. Cause not a lot of people use even third party like messaging apps. Wow. I thought WhatsApp was a thing. It's not, it's, it's a thing down here, but it's not a thing everywhere. So, uh, do you have a, do you have AirPods? I do. You do? What do you, do You like your AirPods? I do. You love your AirPods? Yes.

Enrique:

Wireless . What do you, um, so what was your thought when they first started coming out? Like what did you first think of the AirPods? Like, oh look, it's like, like what did you think about it? I was

Hazzy:

like, go cool. Look, no wires right? I was always a fan of, um, the Apple headset. They were my favorite, like, I guess the way they felt in my ear. Like I really hated the other ones that like, go deep in mm-hmm., like I have little ears too, like mm-hmm., small, small hands, little ears, whatever. So, um, the Apple headsets for me were like, they were just comfortable, like they would fit comfortable and I think that the sound was great. So I was like, oh my God, AirPods without the wire. Excellent, right? Mm-hmm.. But then I thought about like, oh my God, I wonder how long they last battery.

Enrique:

Have you ever lost an AirPod? No. No. So do you know what the process is if you lose an AirPod?

Hazzy:

I don't. I know that I have, they have, um, the find my iPhone, um, that you could find at like one. Um, headphone if it's lost and you could like page it or something and it beeps. Oh, it

Enrique:

does. I never tried it. Okay. But it has that, but it has that. Okay. I get, okay. Okay. So did you know that, did you know that on the subway they were considering doing like a psa? In the New York subway because people were losing their AirPods on the tracks all the time. Like they were getting stuck in the track. What? So they were considering putting like a, a psa, like, yo, take care of your stuff, because like it was getting lost and each one is like, I think 60 or 70 bucks to replace one. And Wow. The pair is like what, 160? 160? Yeah. Wow.. So what else? I think the new

Hazzy:

one is a little more expensive.

Enrique:

The new one's more expensive because it has, uh, it has, Hey, sir. like always on. So you could just say, Hey, Siri, with them on, and then it'll just like, do whatever you want. And then it also has, uh, the, some like, like they have that one and then they have a more expensive one that has wireless charging in the case, so you can just drop it on your little wireless charging pad. Do you have a wireless charger? Do you use

Hazzy:

wireless charging? I don't. I've always kind of been intrigued by it. Yeah. But I've never really, like, I think I've like try to look for them on Amazon and I look at the reviews and I'm like, uh, I don't know., . So I never like got one, but it has always interest me.

Enrique:

Yeah. I, I, I like wireless charging like this. These cheaper Chinese phones don't have wireless charging, but like the more expensive ones do, and it's convenient. Like when I use it, like I would just drop it on the charger and go to sleep. Like I don't have to like plug it in. And that's the convenience that people miss. I mean,

Hazzy:

I wish the battery life was longer

Enrique:

on the AirPods. Yeah. How long is the battery?

Hazzy:

Let me see. Like I'm always wearing them at work and they won't last all day at work. Cause I think it's only like a five hour or something like

Enrique:

that. So after they die you have to like

Hazzy:

put 'em back in? I put 'em back in. The good thing is that like when you put'em back in that it charges like really like 15 minutes and it's fully charged. Oh, okay. It charges quick. Yeah. So like, let's see.. I, I put it like, if I have my 15 minute break, I'm like, okay, put my charger back. Or if it one dies, then, like I said, on Saturday is when I go to work. Right. That's only like half a day. So they, they usually die cuz I have 'em on all the, the whole time I don't take break. Yeah. So by the time it's already like 12. Yeah. One of them already kind of died. Mm-hmm.. So I have to pick up the other one and use that one. Or if I'm using both, they both die and I'm. So I have to put him back in right and let them charge for a. All

Enrique:

right, Haie. So thank you so much for coming. I had a really good time with you here. Um, and just being able to hear these experiences and these opinions and points of view from the consumer is just, uh, an eye-opening experience. And, uh, thanks for coming by. Thanks for having me. It was awesome.

Hazzy:

It was great. I had a lot of fun. I had a lot of fun too.. Enrique: Um, yeah. So maybe next year when you get the new iPhone, uh, we'll probably be back here talking about the new iPhone or maybe just anything in gen in general. Any tech in general. Cause I wanna talk about electric cars. I wanna talk about, um, Car sharing. I wanna talk about cashless society, like how some countries in Europe have like no cash at all. So yeah, uh, hopefully we can get into some other discussions about that kind of stuff. So, yeah. Uh, thanks again for being here. All right. Thanks
