Dennis Hall

Ordained minister, Dr. Dennis Hall, discusses why people love watching the Olympics. He points out that the Olympics cater to our sense of loyalty to our country, our need to resolve uncertainty, and our desire to see beauty in physical prowess. The history of the ancient Olympic Games is reviewed pointing out that the first ancient Olympic Games were celebrated in 776 BC in Olympia, Greece. A Roman Emperor abolished the games after more than 1000 years of existence and it would be 1500 years before the games would be revived. The Olympic Games embrace the idea that peace and reconciliation can be achieved through sport. Dr. Hall discusses how the French Olympic Committee allowed a group of drag queens to mock the Last Supper of Jesus Christ which caused many Christians around the world to boycott watching the Olympics. As the podcast comes to a close the biblical lessons that can be learned by watching the Olympics are outlined. Dr. Hall concludes the podcast by quoting 2 Timothy 4:6-8 and challenges the listeners to fight the good fight, finish the race, and keep the faith.
