Adult Onset Horsemanship
An informal and candid podcast discussing real world horsemanship with respected and experienced experts. Daniel is a guy who is good with horses. He has a background in cutting where he was predominantly involved in developing aged event horses and started over 1000 head of colts, many of whom went on to win lots of cash. A very bad horse wreck at a horse show, involving his niece, prompted him to begin working with people and showing them a no BS version of how to not get killed by their horses. He's since worked with thousands more horses and people from varying disciplines and breeds including many last chance problem horses. In addition to his general horsemanship knowledge he is an internationally known expert on bits and how and why they function. He has a well rounded knowledge base of horsemanship and is working hard at his communication skills with his own species. His wife is a firm believer that he really likes the sound of his own voice and that is the real reason he's started this podcast.http://dauphinhorsemanship.com/

Ep. 49 Gillian Higgins of Horses Inside Out, International Equine Anatomy Expert
Let us know how we're doing. Please understand that we can't reply or see your info.
I was privileged to present alongside Gillian Higgins at The Masterson Method International Gathering, in Gillian's home of the United Kingdom, this past April of '24. Her talk was passionate, funny, and well thought out. Her demonstration with horses in the arena was also insightful and the painting of the musculoskeletal system on the horse brings enlightenment and understanding in ways that nothing else could.
She had a couple of differnt horses that she was using in her demonstration. They were of different training levels and different body types and those differences really allowed her to get into things that matter and options for changing techniques that showed us why these exercises were being done and how they would affect these horses differently. I especially appreciated her encouragement of a horse having trouble going in a balanced way over ground polls to slow down to a snails pace and really think about foot placement and balance while negotiating the polls.
Gillian gets the biomechanics of a horse on a level and to a degree that very, very few people have. I hope our conversation does her knowledge of the horse's physiology justice and if you're into that world and want to nerd out, you could hardly have a better figure to learn from.
