Natey & Katy: At the Movies
A Lighthearted Twist on Halloween Frights
Have you ever wondered if a monster could help you find your voice? Join me, Nathan aka Natey, for a surprise Saturday edition of "Natey & Katy: At the Movies," where I explore the wild and whimsical world of "Your Monster," a film that daringly blends romance, comedy, and horror. I confess to my initial skepticism about a story featuring an actress who discovers her inner strength through a charming closet-dwelling monster. Yet, it turns out to be a quirky, entertaining ride, defying typical Halloween fare and filled with standout performances, notably from Tommy Dewey as the endearing monster. Whether you're a fan of traditional horror or not, this quirky flick offers something different and might just win you over with its unexpected charm.
Experience the thrill of AMC's Screen Unseen event with me, where surprises await the adventurous moviegoer. "Your Monster" became an unexpected delight, earning a solid 4.5 out of 6 on my quirky rating scale. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea—especially if you're not keen on language or semi-steamy scenes—it presents a refreshing alternative for those seeking humor over horror. As we wrap up October, I also tease an exciting upcoming episode where Katy and I will delve into Charlie Chaplin's "The Great Dictator," while I joyfully celebrate eight years of marriage to my lovely wife, Elizabeth. Don't miss this episode full of laughter, love, and a whole lot of movie magic, perfect for those who love a good story with a twist!
Hey everybody, welcome to a surprise Saturday episode of Nadine Katie at the movies. I'm your host, nathan aka Nadie, of course, and today I'm talking about one movie. It is another screen unseen film, so let's dive right into it. Here is a little ear peek of what I'm going to be talking about today. Take a listen. Oh, what? Wait? This is supposed to be a documentary. Well, clearly not. He's doing it all wrong. Strike down, not across. You're flailing man. Hey, I was watching that. Oh my God, best movie ever made Music.
Speaker 1:It always makes me want to cry. Nope, nope, give me that. Nope, give me the remote. Nope, give it to me. Nope, give me that. Nope, give me the remote. Ugh, fine, I'm going to bed. Oh, come on, you're just going to give up that easily, fine, ugh, they didn't have to go to all this trouble. A small wedding would have been a lot easier. They didn't have to go to all this trouble. A small wedding would have been all right. They really don't make movies like this anymore. Every time, every time, it makes me cry. I liked it. Are you crying? No, I'm not crying, you're crying. I know I'm crying. I mean, I'm obviously not crying. Are you fucking blind? Eyes are dry and you'm crying. I mean, I'm obviously not crying. Are you fucking blind? My eyes are dry and you're crying and the movie was just fine. Okay, you love musicals? No, I don't Stop. This is some bullshit. You don't want to feel this way.
Speaker 1:I'm talking about the romantic comedy, slash horror monster film, your monster. But before I can get into my likes and dislikes, I have to go over the synopsis. After her life falls apart, soft-spoken actress laura franco finds her voice again when she meets a terrifying yet weirdly charming monster living in her closet. A romantic comedy horror film about falling in love with your inner rage. Your Monster. Stars Megan Fay, melissa Barrara, tommy Dewey and Edmund Donovan. I had seen a little bit about this movie on social media. Again, this is one of those films that I didn't really consider seeing because I just looked really, really weird to me and strangely enough, it's kind of hard to figure out if I like this movie or not, because there were moments that were weird. Again, it's about a girl who basically falls in love with a monster. But after reading the synopsis of this film and the ending of this movie which I won't, won't, I won't get into it kind of it's like a, I don't know it's, it's hard to describe. I guess that would be one of my likes slash dislikes.
Speaker 1:This movie didn't left me not knowing how I felt about it. I did think it was humorous. I did laugh at parts. I thought the acting was pretty good. I thought the performances I guess acting was was not bad at all.
Speaker 1:I guess the premise just struck me as weird. It kind of reminded me of drop dead Fred yeah, I don't remember all of that movie but just the kind of the same premise going on in this film. But instead of imagination it's about rage and not bottling it up and letting it consume you and kind of letting that out a little bit. There were moments that I thought it was going to go the beauty and the beast route, but I, I I'm sorry, but words are escaping me about what this movie was. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the greatest thing ever either. I will say this about it it did have a nice balance of weird and interesting at the same time.
Speaker 1:This is not a film. Again, this is not a film that I would have sought out, or if I had seen the trailer I would have been like I need to go see this movie. But again, it's one of those screen unseen moments where I'm kind of glad I did see it, because again it wasn't a bad movie. I actually kind of enjoyed it and the way it ended made it even more intriguing. And again, I don't want to dive into the ending of the movie, but it kind of leaves you wondering at the end of the film and so I kind of I kind of enjoyed it. I I didn't think it was bad. Uh, would I recommend it? I don't know. I mean it's. It's kind of a nice alternative to the other Halloween themed movies coming out, because it is a somewhat romantic comedy. The dislikes we're kind of how it ended too.
Speaker 1:I was hoping it would go in one direction, but it went into the, I guess, obvious direction, even though it still ended in a not so obvious way, and I know that probably sounds really confusing. Like I said at the beginning of the episode, all the performances were were pretty good. I thought the best performance was Tommy Dewey, who played the monster himself. I thought he played it very, very subtle. It wasn't your typical monster, it was just a silly one of those things where if you just ignore what he looks like and you act like he's not a monster. That's what makes it funny that they don't pinpoint that he's a monster the entire film, and so I guess he's supposed to be a representation of rage. And at the end of the film I was like you know what that was? That was pretty good. I didn't.
Speaker 1:I wasn't a big fan exactly of how it ended, but it was just an interesting movie. It's another screen unseen that I left the theater, screen unseen that I left the theater. Kind of glad I went because it introduced me to a movie that I would have never have thought of seeing. And so, if anything else, the screen unseen setup that AMC does, I'm I'm really, really enjoying it. And this movie is actually being released the same weekend that the movie I'm going to be talking about next week for the surprise saturday episode. So that kind of gives you a hint of what I'm going to be talking about. It came out the same weekend so I got to see a preview of it for the screen unseen when this episode drops. This movie came out yesterday and it came out the same weekend as another movie that I'm going to be talking about next weekend.
Speaker 1:So I wanted to split them up. So I would give your monster a probably a four point five out of six, which is pretty high for a movie that I did not know what I was going to get myself into. So that is my review of your monster. If you're looking for an alternative, if you're not a big horror film fan, I would, I would say, give this one a try. It does have some language in it, it does have some it's not no nudity, but there are some sex scenes. And if you don't want to get into that, then don't go see it. But if that doesn't bother you and you just want to see a funny movie that's random and weird, your monster would probably be it.
Speaker 1:So that is that, and this tuesday is our last episode of october and katie and I are going to be talking about the great dictator and my wife and I are celebrating eight years of marriage, which is crazy, and I'm super excited about celebrating that with her, and you guys get to listen to Katie and I talk about Charlie Chaplin. Happy anniversary to you guys. So that is it for this surprise Saturday episode of Nadie and Katie. At the movies, critics on the go, opinions start to flow. Will it be a hit?
