Speaker 2Because TVs aren't just good as monitors. Also, like I said, we have a monitor, we're just waiting for it to get fixed.
Speaker 1Okay for me, oh my God, Just one second Okay, that should be better. For me. I had a market. I made a whole $3 over my table cost.
Speaker 2Slow market day.
Speaker 1It wasn't, though, just slow for me, but I painted some stuff. I painted a Pokemon fall scenery that's going to be made into prints. I painted the Master Sword in like a rock in the middle of a forest.
Speaker 2You basically did the scene from. Ocarina of Time.
Speaker 1Yeah, sure, I painted one of those that's going to be made into prints. I'm working on a bigger, better version for Carver.
Speaker 2Yay.
Speaker 1Can you not notice? That's what I've been painting.

Speaker 1No on the episode For the episode today this is Haunted Canada, it's. Haunted Canada, nova Scotia, new Scotland.

Speaker 2Hello people from Nova.
Speaker 1Scotia. Hello, we have some spooky stories for you. How spooky Spooky enough to be in a children's horror book.
Speaker 2Ten spooky yeah, nice Like 3.5. Okay so I think it's a 10 and you think it's a 3.5.
Speaker 1No like out of four. Oh, these must be some spooky ass stories Actually they used like a description that I didn't think they would put in a children's book. I wrote it down.
Speaker 2What's that?
Speaker 1I'll get to it later. I'll tell you which one it is.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1I don't want to spoil things.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1So you go first because you have more.
Speaker 2I probably don't have more, considering how many notes you have, but I do have two stories and you have one.
Speaker 1Yes.
Speaker 2So my first story is one called the Cosset House, which is a historical house. I believe it's the oldest house on Cape Breton Island.
Speaker 1Wow.
Speaker 2And it is now a museum.
Speaker 1Wow Museum.
Speaker 2And it's a bit like from what I was reading. It was a bit like that Barkerville thing we did, where they got the people that are dressed in period clothing and acting and stuff giving you the tour. Except it's just one house and not a whole last town.
Speaker 1Fort Edmonton Park does that too.
Speaker 2Cool, cool.
Speaker 1That was so dismissive.
Speaker 2I don't care about Fort Edmonton Park. We're not talking about Fort Edmonton Park. Fort Edmonton Park is dead to me.
Speaker 1Anyway, this house.
Speaker 2Anyway, yes, this house.
Speaker 1Like it's a historical site, yeah it's a historical site.
Speaker 2All this house in Cape Breton built in 1762 or something like that. I forget the exact date. I don't make notes like Leisha does.
Speaker 1I have to, Otherwise it leaves my brain.
Speaker 2The problem is I listen to all these stories while I was at work because that's the only time I get to study. I just put it on, listen to it while I'm working. Hopefully most of it sticks.
Speaker 1It's just like throwing what's spaghetti at a wall.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Speaker 1Some of it sticks, some of it just rolls down.
Speaker 2So anyway, while I was spaghettiing this story, I yes, it's a historical site, it's a museum, oldest house in Cape Breton. There's many ghosts there.
Speaker 1Many ghosts, Many many, many ghosts. So it's super spooky. Yes, are any of them poltergeists?
Speaker 2I don't think so. They're not that intense, like one story that I found about it was they do like a haunted house there, right Like a traditional Halloween time haunted house.
Speaker 1And they had two ghosts come spend the night.
Speaker 2And so there were like two groups getting ready, this part of the house, this part of the house, and one of them starts yelling at the other because they start hearing this group of people start hearing a bunch of children playing, little girls laughing, little boys laughing, just stuff like that. They're like, hey, you guys got to keep it down. The haunted house is about to start. And then the other people yell at them like we were about to tell you that.
Speaker 1Oh, my God.
Speaker 2Because they're all hearing the kids playing and they're like, wait, you hear those kids too. And they're like, yeah and yeah, they were just hearing all of these, this children's laughter in the house.
Speaker 1That's terrifying. That reminds me of like this one time I was on the phone with a friend and their house was like super haunted. I remember that it was like super spooky.
Speaker 2How do you know?
Speaker 1Because like I went to their house and I like felt like a pit in my stomach the whole time, like I just felt like sick to my stomach, like I did in Ireland.
Speaker 2I felt like that in a house in Grimshaw, but it wasn't because it was haunted, it's because it was really filthy, like shockingly filthy. I was like I want to get out of here, but I wanted to buy the motorcycle I was buying, so anyway, anyway.
Speaker 1But like I felt like a pit in my stomach and then they were walking upstairs from their basement and I heard like a little kid laugh and I was like are you alone at the house? And they're like yeah, and I was just like cool, that's not terrifying.
Speaker 2I had a friend who insisted his basement was haunted and he would tell me this story, like earlier in the day he was telling me about how he's an atheist and all this. And then later on we, we, I was sleeping over at his house and he was telling me this story about how they saw like ghosts in this basement or whatever. And I was just like are you an atheist or not? And that just didn't compute for me. He's like what do you mean? I can believe in ghosts and being an atheist? I'm like no, you can't.
Speaker 1Yes, you can.
Speaker 2Anyway.
Speaker 1You're technically not. You don't have to believe in like a religion.
Speaker 2To believe in Someone, an atheist is an atheist just doesn't believe in anything supernatural whatsoever.
Speaker 1Oh, but Mothman that's right.
Speaker 2This is a Mothman truth or show. Only listen if you believe in Mothman. I was actually. You know what I heard. There was a bit of a battle between Mothman and Bigfoot, so I'm thinking we should make a movie out of that.
Speaker 1Isn't that just Mothra and King Kong?
Speaker 2No, it's Mothman and Bigfoot. Anyway, back to the story where we're getting off topic here.
Speaker 1Back to the stories. Spooky children.
Speaker 2Spooky children? Yes, they. They heard the children yell at each other and realized it's like I guess we're gonna have a real haunting in this haunted house this year, Anyway.
Speaker 1Just like sick or publicity.
Speaker 2Yeah, other than that, the stories are pretty standard. Oh, I see people, they hear the laughing like that. I just thought the scenario was funny In that.
Speaker 1Yo shut the fuck up.
Speaker 2Shut the fuck up. No, you shut up.
Speaker 1Wait what.
Speaker 2Okay, there's just children, but that's fine. Anyway, let's hear your story, babe.
Speaker 1Hi story. I have notes, so this is about the haunting of Esther Cox.
Speaker 2Esther Cox.
Speaker 1COX. She was haunted while she was 18 to like 20. So like from 1878 until a couple years after that. Can't remember the exact one. It's on the other side of the page. Anyway, she lived with her sister Olive and Olive's husband, daniel Teed, while her and Olive's brother William and sister Jane also lived there. So probably a real small house was like way too many people in it.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1So one night her and Jane Esther and Jane were sleeping because they shared a room they started hearing like scratching.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1Coming from inside the bed. And then they figured out inside the bed.
Speaker 2That's what it sounded like Inside the mattress.
Speaker 1Yeah, that's what it sounded like they said. But then like they found out that it was like a cardboard box underneath the bed full of like quilting fabric. So they were like, oh, maybe some mice were like making a nest or whatever. And then they pulled out the cardboard box and the cardboard box like flew up, flipped over on its side and then flew across the room.
Speaker 2They're like I don't think it's mice.
Encounters With Hauntings and Ghosts
Speaker 1So that was, that was the first night that it started. So the next night, esther was writhing in pain and this is the sentence I was talking to you about from earlier in the episode, and I quote and swelling like a bloated corpse.
Speaker 2Nice, I love scholastic.
Speaker 1And then she was like there was like she's like writhing in pain and her joints were like popping and Shit and there was like scratching all over the place and like it was like really spooky and then, after like a really like ear-splittingly loud bang, everything stopped. Huh, four nights later it was it happened again. So they called the doctor and they were like oh, it's just nerves, she just has a case of the nerves.
Speaker 2No, she's just nervous. That's why that's all this weird shit is happening.
Speaker 1Yeah. So the thing is hold on. You got to hold your horses. Hold on to them.
Speaker 2We're all in the horses.
Speaker 1Okay, they heard scratching on the roof, like up near the roof and on the wall. Like the scratching was like etching something into the wall and it said ester cocks, you were mind to kill. It would also answer questions with knocks, like if you went, like how many people were in the room? It would be like it would knock the correct amount of times. Nice so it would answer questions and then in December how many Final Fantasy games are there?
Speaker 2you're just there for like 10.
Speaker 1In December of 1878. Ester suffer from that theory.
Speaker 2What's died theory? I don't hold on, I'm gonna look that up.
Speaker 1It's spelt really weirdly like I fucked it up right here the Diff theory.
Speaker 2Okay, I'm sure this will tell me. Diff theory. A an acute, highly contagious bacterial disease causing inflammation of the mucus membranes, formation of a false membrane in the throat that hinders breathing and swallowing, and Potentially fatal heart and nerve damage by a bacterial toxin in the blood. It is now rare in developed countries because of immunization.
Speaker 1That's fucking crazy sounds fucking shitty. She had it.
Speaker 2That's awful.
Speaker 1Yeah, and then when she was finally better, she went and she got better, that's good. She lived.
Speaker 2That's probably something that killed people a lot back in the day. Yeah, no, kidding Especially they had the good leeches there or something.
Speaker 1Maybe they had the good leeches. Yeah, anyway, she left after she got better and Stayed with family and it followed her. Hmm and then so she decided to leave her family out of this. So she decided to go like off on her own and like Make sure that her family's not bothered by it. So she drew, she journeyed around. They found out that it was multiple ghosts haunting her.
Speaker 2They go to a psychic. That ain't go to a priest.
Speaker 1It would follow her into the church.
Speaker 2Good, that's where the priest is.
Speaker 1She stopped going to church because she felt like embarrassed, because like all the stuff that would happen. Oh my god.
Speaker 2It's like not going to the mechanic's car is shitty. It's like no, I don't want him to see my shitty car. I can't go to the mechanic. You just let it get worse and worse.
Speaker 1Yeah, so this man named Something Hubble I didn't write his first name down Tried to make her like a you, like you, I think. He wrote a book on her and and her strange happenings and I think it's called the haunted house.
Speaker 2The haunted house? Yeah, very imaginative.
Speaker 1I just that's what I read, okay, okay. And so he tried to make her like a spectacle, though, like he tried to make her like a like a touring, like Fucking car knee Joe.
Speaker 2As you do, I do the same the ghosts would not respond. Dick's I. You're gonna get a torture her that long. You're not even gonna make a scene out, you're not even gonna make a show out of it.
Speaker 1Yeah brutal so she stayed with some farmers while she was journeying around and they were like fine with like the things being knocked over and they just couldn't handle because apparently matches would like appear out of thin air, still on fire, and drop to the floor.
Speaker 2Okay yeah.
Speaker 1So she stayed with two different farmers. One of them kind of was like hey, you, you got to go it, this is like a lot to deal with and like we need some space. And Then the other one was like okay, well, that's fine, you're haunted, that's cool. And then the barn burned down and Esther got convicted. I Did the ghost of our son no, she got convicted of arson, was sentenced sentenced to four months in jail but the four months for arson.
Speaker 1And the town convinced them to let her out after one month because they felt so sorry for her that she's just having all these terrible things happen to her.
Speaker 2I feel sorry for her too, because you know it's a hard disease to cure.
Speaker 1And then, at the end of 1879, they finally left her alone.
Speaker 2They just fucked off.
Speaker 1They just fucked up. Okay, I guess they couldn't kill her, or something.
Speaker 2They're like I'm tired of this. Everybody loves her. She's just. You know, worst thing happens. She doesn't die, she's just sad for a bit, but then everyone picks her back up.
Speaker 1So she married and had a son after that and then her first husband died. So she moved to Massachusetts, remarried and had another son there. This lady what's?
Speaker 2the timeline of this. What was she at this point?
Speaker 1I was getting to that.
Speaker 2Okay.
Speaker 1She died in 1912 at the age of 51. So when?
Speaker 2did she have the second son?
Speaker 1They didn't say the time.
Speaker 2Jesus.
Speaker 1But a couple years after she died, the house was demolished to make way for shops and shit.
Speaker 2Are they like a haunted Walmart? I hope so. It's fucking hilarious Anyway supposedly the Kingsway Mall is haunted, but I feel like every mall I've ever been in was supposed to be haunted. Bonnie Dune was haunted, was it actually?
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 2What happened?
Speaker 1to you there, not to me personally, but like the security guards they're just like I've been like pushed up the stairs, like coming up from the base bowling alley.
Speaker 2They're just creeped out because it's dark. I felt the same way when I worked at the rec center like midnight nothing, there were no ghosts in there, or maybe there were Dun dun. Anyway, my second story is a bit of a topical one. I don't know if it's in the haunted Canada books or not.
Speaker 1It actually was.
Speaker 2Oh cool, it's the Alexander Keith's Brewery.
Speaker 1It has like half a page and a half.
Speaker 2It's not a very like crazy haunting or anything. So the Alexander Keith's Brewery if you don't know what Alexander Keith's is, it is the oldest brewery in North America and they make India Paleos.
Speaker 1They make beer.
Speaker 2Yeah, that's their thing, it's Alexander Keith's IPA and I remember the commercials because every time they came on they were always they were like super, super, like corny, Like there's always like a guy dressed up as some like 1700s, you know, Scottish immigrant. And every time at the end they're like it's the pride of Nova Scotia.
Speaker 1I remember those Because he was a Scotsman.
Speaker 2He came from Scotland and his father taught him how to make beer and he was an incredibly accomplished person, like he was mayor of Halifax three times. He was like some crazy business tycoon in all kinds of other ways and he ran this brewery, which was kind of like his passion project, like he was like beer is my life. So he, yeah, he, just he made the brewery and that was his, that was his, you know, his baby, and eventually he passed away and well yeah, and a lot of people.
Speaker 2the story goes that he he shows up in the brewery to check to make sure that the standards that he, that he, put in place, are still upheld. Like he's just, you know, he's just like watching this business from the grave.
Speaker 2Looking over the place like you better not fuck this up. And there's another haunting in in the brewery. That's apparently you just see, like you know, like bloody corpses and stuff, but no one talks about that, except for the one article I found. But people have seen that. So what's going on there? I don't know. I don't know if you're going to find any more information on it.
Speaker 1Wow, wow, that's terrifying.
Speaker 2You can take tours of the brewery, by the way. And now I kind of want to because I want to see if I see, like an old Scottish guy yelling at the workers, this isn't good enough, yeah, fucking it up, I don't know, I don't know what he would say. But yeah, cool, it's a fun. It's a fun story.
Speaker 1Fun story.
Speaker 2Yes.
Speaker 1There was lots. My sister actually flagged all of Nunavut and Nova Scotia for us in all of our books.
Speaker 2Wow.
Speaker 1We did that while we were waiting for you to come home Monday Hmm.
Speaker 2Yeah, sounds about right.
Speaker 1So any other spooky things?
Speaker 2Well, this isn't from the books or anything, nor is it from online, but I was told there's a guy that we know who went to a hotel in Nova Scotia and he had a lot of weird things happen, like they checked into the room and I guess the room beside him was just partying all night like going hard.
Speaker 1This is the doctor. Yeah, oh, my God All night.
Speaker 2Just, I guess they just heard these people just partying like they're fucking, like, just partying the hardest you've ever partied in your life, and it was in the room right beside them and they had to get up at like 5am. They weren't happy about that. They didn't get any sleep. So they complained about it to the front desk and the front desk was like oh, there's no one staying in that room. And he's like well, I'm pretty sure there's someone staying in that room because they were partying all night. And they investigated and, lo and behold, no, he's in that room.
Speaker 1Nobody's in the room. Everything looks like it's an order.
Speaker 2Yeah, everything's fine, nothing happened, okay. So the next night happens they come in and he can't open his door to get to his clothes that he has in his closet. He just can't open it. His wife tries to open it. She can't open it. She's okay, I'm going to try opening. He's just tries to reefing it open, nothing. So they go back down to the back, down to the lobby, and they complain. They're like I can't get my closet open. I got my stuff in there, I can't get my closet open. And they're like oh okay, let's go upstairs and see what's going on. They have like a maintenance guy and they go up, open up their door. As soon as they open up their door, their closet door is just just swings open.
Speaker 2It's just hanging open there.
Speaker 1Oh my god.
Speaker 2And at this point, and they're like uh-huh, hahaha, and they, they try to go to sleep again. So they got to get get up again quite early and, uh, you know, the partying goes on, Except this time they complain while the partying's going on. And, of course, once the people come upstairs, nothing. They open the door to the room, nothing. There's no partying here, hahaha. And then there was no more partying after that, I guess, um, until the next night when the partying started again, except they just kind of accepted it this time.
Speaker 2And you know, after that happens, he uh goes to the bar. The doctor there goes to the bar and he's asking uh, the bartender like what, what, what does I'll put this place. Why does this keep happening? Like all this weird shit's been happening to me and nobody seems to, nobody seems to take it seriously. And the bartender's just like, um, we don't talk about that, we just don't talk about it. And he's like what do you mean? You don't talk about it. He's like this is one of the most haunted hotels in the country, but if you advertise it or anyone knows, then you start getting weird guests or people who don't want to be guests here, so we don't talk about it.
Speaker 1Oh, my fucking god.
Speaker 2That's why none of the staff are acknowledging your complaints. And then, to top it all off, he's uh, he had booked this hotel like two months in advance and he was paying something like 300 bucks a room or 300 bucks a night. And as he's walking back to his room, he overhears someone who's coming in, just like for a you know whatever it's called. Last minute booking is just he's looking for a walk in.
Speaker 2And they quote the walk in like $180. He's like that was like the last straw for him. He's like are you fucking kidding me? I picked $300 a night when I did everything right and you're charging this guy $180. Which isn't a ghost story at all, it's just kind of bullshit. After everything else, he's dealt with. Thankfully, though, that was the last night he was there and he got to leave after that.
Speaker 1Hmm.
Speaker 2Yeah, he never did say which hotel he was staying at, though, but that was his experience there.
Speaker 1Interesting.
Speaker 2Yes.
Speaker 1I think that's it for us.
Speaker 2Yeah, oh, this isn't related to the episode at all, but it's a story that I want to say. So yesterday I had the dog at work with me, right, Mm-hmm, and I was just working on a trailer and I just heard like these dogs just like fighting really hard, Like they were just screaming fighting whatever in the bush. They ran out of the shop and I was like like running after looking for Bowser and he was just like laying underneath a truck and I'm like are you fucking kidding me? What's fighting over there? It must have been coyotes or something.
Speaker 1It must have been.
Speaker 2But yeah, I just heard like two dogs going at it and I was pretty scared, I was pretty cried, I couldn't tell. I saw Bowser's smiling face under the truck.
Speaker 1He's acting like nothing's wrong. Oh, we forgot we forgot. The most important thing that happened to us this week.
Speaker 2What's that?
Speaker 1Bowser's birthday.
Speaker 2Bowser's first birthday. Yes, Bowser is one.
Speaker 1Bowser is one.
Speaker 2He is one year old. I posted a picture in a Facebook group and they told me they'd die for him, so I'm happy with that.
Speaker 1All smiles.
Speaker 2All smiles.
Speaker 1But I think that's it for us.

Speaker 1Yes, Okay, so we're going to be playing some horror games during the month of October on our stream.
