Speaker 1:

What is up everybody? Welcome to another episode of the chasing daylight podcast. It is july 16th, 2024, episode 284, 284. We're climbing the charts. We're climbing the charts. Um, thanks everybody for tuning in this week. We are live on on YouTube. We are live on Instagram. Hopefully we get a bunch of you to hang out and join us.

Speaker 1:

This evening we're going to be talking golf on the other side of the pond because it is the last major of the year. Royal Troon is where they're teeing it up over there. Before we do that, let's handle the particulars. Thank you to the Golf Stop. They are a show supporter of ours. They are an indoor track man facility here in Henderson, or, as Joe loves to hear, west Henderson, and a fantastic place. Uh, beers on tap. Great little snack bar. They got glizzies now and uh, yeah, it's, it's. You want to get out of the heat and go play some golf indoors and it's turning into quite a popular spot. Man, you, I go in there to book time and it's full, full, uh, so check them out. Uh, st rose parkway, by the new hospital, costco, that area you'll find them also. Special thanks, scott russo for his continued support and allow us to use harmonic as our intro. We love that. Thank you so much and uh, yeah, that that's it for those. How you boys this evening I got one thing.

Speaker 2:

I just want to I just want to do this before I forget, because I told my buddy I would I would shout them out absolutely, um. So shoes for scholars. It's a organization in town that helps um motivate youth in town to get good grades and they're rewarded with shoes. They have a golf tournament coming up. Shoes for scholars is a nonprofit organization that collaborates with a title one middle schools to implement incentive programs aimed at improving students' performance on tests. So if you're interested, schools for scholars, look them up. They have a. They have a thing coming up at red rock, uh, country club, the private side, and they have open spots.

Speaker 1:

So, uh, let's go check them out, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2:

So uh and uh, they might be throwing some cdp stuff into the bags and everything. So uh, shout out to them. I mean great, great thing, man. When I was in, when I was in school, I wanted new shoes all the time.

Speaker 3:

So we got a bunch of these so shout out to them yeah, speaking of, I need to get one of those from you, matt yes, you do, yes, you do.

Speaker 1:

Uh, you'll get one, you only get one. So hey, that's all I need hey, until I see it and you're displaying it, that's all you get. Uh, yeah, but uh, let's keep in touch with them. I'll put in the show notes the link uh to that site and I'll find out the the tournament information. I'll have that in the show notes as well, so so my buddy that I that told me about it.

Speaker 2:

I ran into him on fourth of july at work, right, because we do the fireworks at gvr, um. But I used to do graffiti with him, which is crazy, right, like way back in the day we used to paint up like idiots, um. But yeah, good, dude, and he connected me and uh, good, cause, man, and you get to play, uh, red rock.

Speaker 1:

Private side if you've never played it, I haven't I think it's.

Speaker 2:

I think it's 250 for an individual thousand for asome Totally reasonable for a private course. Yeah, check the links below.

Speaker 1:

We'll have to get with our sponsors and see if they'll provide us with a foursome. I'm talking to the other three sponsors right now.

Speaker 2:

I think I'm already playing.

Speaker 1:

Oh, are you? Okay, joe doesn't want to play with us, I see, no, I would love it.

Speaker 2:

maybe we can get eight, some let's get eight some going.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, right on, okay, um, in other fundraising activities. Uh, I was chatting with the southern nevada golf association. They reached out to us and said hey, you know, we're, we're inviting our member clubs to come out to this. Uh, they're doing a hundred hole event out at angel park on July 29th. It is for fundraising for junior golf here in Southern Nevada. The Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association and also a program called Youth on Course, which is another company or organization that is doing their best to make golf affordable for juniors. They can play for as little as $5 at participating courses. So it's a great way to help the youth of the city get out onto courses, because golf ain't cheap in this town.

Speaker 1:

And there's not a whole lot of places where juniors can go. I know it used to be at Revere if you paid for one adult you could bring a kid and they'd let him play for free. But after COVID all that shit disappeared fast. So this is another great program. So myself, steven Jackson, james Lewis and Jason Roberts all from the VGN are doing it. It's out at angel park on the cloud nine course on July 29th. I've been blasting on my social media on instagram and facebook and everything uh, how you can donate. It's a little five bucks.

Speaker 2:

Make a five bucks donation hey, you know how, you know how I know it's important, or how you can know that it's important that's how it's important, you know? Yeah, I spent some money on it Very rare.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and so all my friends that make an ungodly amount of money and I know who you are and I know you wasted on stupid shit. If I don't see a donation from you, I'm going to call you out, so you've been put on notice. There's a handful of you that have no idea what to do with all the money you make, and so I'm giving you a great uh you know opportunity here to do some really good things for the community.

Speaker 2:

So they're saving it so they can shit on us in the future.

Speaker 1:

That's exactly so, uh, that's it for the fundraising. The golf stop, um, let's see. Uh, jeremy and I, we got out to wild horse today. I got out to wild horse saturday. I wanted to get in a little practice round and it was funny. We uh, somebody from the vgn on discord reached out and said, hey, let's, I got some spots for saturday, so I'll take it and boyd take one. And um, we, we went out and taylor nielsen took one. Dan gian was the guy who set it up and we went out there and we had an early tea time. It was like 6 50 and then we gotta do that nowadays.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we saw uh, vick sanchez was out there, uh, with uh, vincent and uh. Then we saw james lewis and uh, nick changeman and jack was out there. There was greg newton. There there was. I think there was at least 12 or 13 vg and members out there playing getting ready for next weekend and uh it, you know it's the first time boy to play the place and uh it, it immediately jumped to the number one course on his list uh no he did not like it at all and uh what's the thing, bro?

Speaker 2:

oh let's go. It's wild horse, man. It's like it's that's exactly what you said. I mean there's gonna be dry spots. I mean, knowing darden and all the shit that he dealt with out there and all the leaks and everything, I mean it's, it's quirky.

Speaker 2:

I mean it's not a major venue like it's not where you're gonna play, but you're gonna get some crazy kicks and you're gonna enjoy yourself because it's fun. Don't worry too much about the golf course, because not everything is augusta national and you need to get that through your head. Not everything is always green. We live in a desert, so if anything is green out there in the middle of july, like you, should probably be a little happy, incredibly happy it's very green.

Speaker 1:

Well, it's very green, though I will say that yeah, it's, it's very green, it's just a green you're probably not used to seeing it's. It's. Yeah, what. What did jeremy say you were saying today?

Speaker 5:

you're like the the, the bermuda rough here is it's the hardest bermuda rough I've ever played in and I said, well, it's so weird it's not a very well-maint maintained bermuda grass?

Speaker 1:

they don't have the nutrient budget to make that shit lush uh yeah, and I mean being a muni course, uh, city of henderson.

Speaker 2:

I mean, they're faced with very strict water restrictions yeah, I mean like piu. Piu can just fucking throw fucking prime drink on it if they want all day. You know they got the money and they have electrolytes they have the allotment on it. You know it's got electrolytes, so I mean they can. They can do what they want, but for a henderson muni, like they're restricted being under the city.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, they ain't got no money, uh, but so, uh, we played early morning and it was. It was nice, it wasn't that bad. The wind wasn't bad at all. It got a little warm near the end of the round, but we made it around in in maybe under four hours, I don't know.

Speaker 1:

It was pretty quick, and then Jeremy and I went out there today and ghost town, like you could hear the tumbleweeds Cause there was not a soul. Did see brandon out on the the range. Uh asked him to join us but he said he had stuff going on, couldn't do it. But uh, wow, uh, yeah, it was a ghost town. There was nobody out there and I think we played in in under three just um, but it was nice having the whole course to ourself, you know so we got to test some stuff and try some different shots and and really get a feel for what's going to take place on Saturday.

Speaker 1:

I I said you know a lot of people are going to be surprised because if you don't know the horse and you don't play the horse. You're going to wonder how did I just shoot 90 at this place?

Speaker 2:

you're gonna get horsed, you're gonna get horsed and get galloped, yeah hey, quick shout out to mass appeal golf tuning in on live on ig he is my homie, that's in indiana and uh, I know there's been chatters of an indiana trip.

Speaker 3:

Uh, so it might be hitting you up soon, so uh, yep in may shout out, uh, jacob bassey great, great, great musical mind too, like he knows his music.

Speaker 2:

So if you need recommendations, yes and if you don't know the horse, cyrus is tuning I don't know the horse and a lot of, a lot of people.

Speaker 1:

Never take you there. A lot of I won't yeah he will hate it oh my god a lot of people skip the horse.

Speaker 2:

A lot of people skip the horse, but it is a it's funky man, it is a it's a soul golfer's dream, in a way, like and they used it and jack nicholas won. There used to be called the showboat, like actually paradise valley. Yeah, cyrus, I'm going to send you an article. It's really good a lot of historical value.

Speaker 1:

This is how I see cyrus playing wild horse gets there, goes to the range. That range is kind of beat up. There's some nice horse architecture or artwork out there you can aim at. It's not bad. Gets to the first tee, plays the first hole, goes okay. Goes to the second tee, plays that hole. He's like all right. And then just takes his cart to the parking lot and leaves.

Speaker 3:

Well that would be the way to do. Well, you're right, there's two hole routing we'll hold it don't even make the left.

Speaker 1:

Let's go straight.

Speaker 2:

It was if, if he was not happy with coyote which is a shame, because three is great. I mean you gotta get a little draw off the t and number four with that par three over the water.

Speaker 1:

That's a great par three three is so in my head right now. I can't.

Speaker 2:

It's just messing I think I think number five out at the horse is probably the most lackluster hole. It's just like a straightaway long par four playing as a par five.

Speaker 1:

If they would open up that back box again. I think it would make it a little bit more challenging.

Speaker 3:

Matt is three, the dogleg left.

Speaker 5:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Yep, that one gets in your head.

Speaker 1:

I don't know why. I don't know why I aim at the right side and I'm like if I hit it straight, it's going to roll out to the rough and it's fine. If I hit the draw, perfect, and I take it over the left bushes and I'm in the rough and just completely blocked out every fucking time.

Speaker 5:

He hit three balls on that hole. He hit three balls Perfect swings, beautiful swings. All of three balls.

Speaker 1:

Perfect swings, beautiful swings All of them in the same spot.

Speaker 5:

Dead left.

Speaker 2:

It was insane. That's what I love about it.

Speaker 3:

That's what I love about the hole.

Speaker 2:

Because you can just get fucking ounces, bro.

Speaker 3:

I was just going to say why don't you just hit like five pounds? Luck of the draw.

Speaker 1:

I'm hitting, because I'm hitting with those, those new lagp uh dj shafts yeah, shout out miles miles. I'm hitting the three wood off the tee perfectly. I mean jeremy saw it today. I mean I was, I was just I'm pummeling that thing off the tee. So yeah, that that will be hit with a three wood on on saturday the only thing that really sucks about the horse is the velcro greens.

Speaker 1:

They're they're pretty velcro-y, so and and the cup or the hole cutter cup cuts the cup cuts the the hole cutter has not been sharpened since probably 87 yeah, it's a little square, it's.

Speaker 2:

It's one out there. Yeah, it's a little dull.

Speaker 1:

It may be specs dating back to the 1800s. Because those holes I said there has to be more lips per 18 holes at the wild horse than anywhere else in town.

Speaker 2:

But it is a very fun golf course. Get out there and play, for sure. It's a not miss, bro, and you're not going to spend more than I mean. I don't know what it is for out of towners, but I used to cut my teeth out there when I started playing golf, like I was there every Saturday morning at 6am because it was 50 bucks and I used to play with a lot of old timers and that that's where I really learned how to play there in national. But it's, it will teach you that. It'll teach you about firm golf courses and you're going to get bad bounces and you're going to get good bounces and that's golf. I think Wild Horse is a fantastic first-timer golf course. If you can play it all the time and figure it out, you're going to do well. But you're going to get fucking lucky breaks and very, very bad breaks. It's a it's. It's a lot of fun.

Speaker 1:

Man, I enjoy myself out there every time the thing that is cause it's a par 70 and it tips out at 6,500 yards, but the back is almost 3,600 yards because they've got the 600 yard par five, 17th or 16th, uh, the 245 yard par three on on 14, 13th, a long uphill hole, 10s, not exactly short, but I mean there, there's some beefy holes out there and, uh, you know if, if you were to find a couple other spots that have, like I said, if they would extend five, it could be a 6,800-yard par 70 course, which that's a lot for a Muni.

Speaker 1:

I mean, it's not the. What are they playing? 7,300 over in Royal Troon this weekend, but man Miles just made a bold. I know I yeah, I was. I didn't want to bring it up, but I mean yeah he said enjoy the chad boys long day tomorrow and sleep on cabot citrus for a few years a couple years. Don't misquote him, I'm sorry a couple years a few, a couple same thing, a little little too new.

Speaker 3:

Uh, yeah, a little little too new yeah, that's usually the case of courses, looks like battle of the bulge out.

Speaker 2:

There need some time I can see that I mean new golf courses take time to mature, obviously, like I haven't played copper ox since it opened and you can. You can tell when something's new.

Speaker 1:

So oh, those greens were firm, firm, firm it definitely needs time to mature.

Speaker 2:

You know what black?

Speaker 1:

desert, black desert, was it's right, right out the gate?

Speaker 2:

true. Yeah, black desert played very well out the gate, it's true.

Speaker 1:

All right, so here we'll do this early. Let's do this and we'll be right back.

Speaker 4:

There's something that binds us all the joy of connecting on and off the course. Get there the way a little heckle can be just the push you need. Get there a love language marked by admiration and respect. We're all bound by two words said by golfers worldwide get there, visit us at your local las vegas golf superstore or shop online at worldwidegolfcom worldwide. Get there, get there.

Speaker 1:

Well, she had some bagpipe music to blast in here right now for this segue, because that would be kind of cool.

Speaker 2:

It's the open, okay wait, I could play some people under the stairs, you should do that?

Speaker 3:

uh, that opening that from corn. What's that? One song where they play the bagpipes.

Speaker 1:

Forget the name of the song but god, you're going to bagpipes for like 45 seconds and then start rocking out yeah, so uh, jeremy said today in the car that this is his favorite tournament uh to watch, um, because it comes on for for our time it starts. It'll start uh 10, 30 wednesday night okay, that's.

Speaker 2:

That's where my question is it's your favorite tournament to watch? Are you watching all night?

Speaker 5:

Usually I watch before I go to bed. I fall asleep to the open, Then I wake up throughout the night and the open is still on. Then I wake up early and finish watching the open. It's cool to see the.

Speaker 5:

I like the stories progress, like throughout the night. Like you, you see a play. Maybe you wake up and see a player tee off and then later in the day or you sleep for a few hours and then they're finishing their round and you're like what happened during that? Yeah, so then I go back and watch it. I usually watch all four rounds of this tournament.

Speaker 2:

I love it, see, and that's my issue. Like I love the open, I love watching the open, but it requires a lot out of us on the west coast. That's where it's like I, especially for a major. I want to watch every shot and it's it with the open. It's very hard to see everything, you know, for us being on the west coast, so I think that's why it I love the open, but it could potentially be last, because I don't have the ability to watch everything suck it up yeah, I sacrifice my body to watch, to watch it every year I pay for it, but you're sleeping, though, but you're sleeping like what I do like what jeremy said, I do the exact same thing.

Speaker 1:

I'll put it on at night I do, I do this, I do the same thing get up, go to the bathroom because I'm old and got to get up in the middle of night go to the bathroom and I'm like, oh, tiger's playing, all right, let's watch a few holes, you know, and I'll watch tiger, and then, okay, lay back down and then wake up oh, tiger's finishing.

Speaker 2:

You're right, that's exactly what I do. That's me too right, like I'll fall asleep, but if I see it on TV, I'm watching until like I literally can't open my eyelids anymore, you know, like. So it's like it's me battling myself, and that's where it's tricky, because I want to watch everything, because it is a major and you know it's a battle with myself, kind of like Drake losing to Kendrick, you know.

Speaker 1:

So I wrote down the times. I converted it to Pacific Standard Time. So on Thursday it starts you know which is going to be Wednesday night here 1030pm to 1am, that's on Peacock, and then from 1am to noon on USA and then noon to 115 on Peacock, that's Thursday and Friday. Saturday it's 2am to 4am on USA and then 4am to noon on NBC, and then Sunday it's 2 am to 4 am on USA and then 4 am to noon on NBC, and then Sunday it is 1 am to 4 am on USA and then 4 am to 11 am on NBC. So if you don't have the cock, go get the cock, because you're going to need it.

Speaker 1:

You're going to need it to watch the beginning of the stuff. Yep.

Speaker 2:

Download you some cock.

Speaker 1:

Golf making you get the cock.

Speaker 2:

And you got to pay for the cock now and you got to pay for the cock. Oh, it's not free anymore.

Speaker 3:

No, you got to pay for the cock. No more free cock. No more free cock, no more free cock.

Speaker 1:

Oh, that's one of the reasons I have the rental advisory on the. Yeah, all right, so, uh, royal troon, founded in 1878, it's been around for a long time. This is the 10th time. It's hosted the open, first time since 2016. And anybody remember the 2016? What took place then?

Speaker 1:

yeah, colin montgomery did not win fucking tiger with that epic blast I mean he made. His golf swing may not be, or his golf game may not be what it used to be, but man, he, uh, he, he, let old colin have it I don't get colin like he's.

Speaker 5:

He's the same as he's always been, though like he's just just total off the wall comments out of nowhere the comments on that post were epic.

Speaker 1:

Why is laura davies so angry? Oh I lost it that's calling for you, oh, but hey, let's poke the bear a little, you know, let's poke them. Let's poke the bear a little and see, but oh great, comeback from tiger.

Speaker 3:

So I will say I will say that colin is not in the position to say anything, but I kind of also as of late, as of late, it's, he's not wrong no, he's not tiger's been doing nothing since the masters, so yeah hopefully that changes, because none of us like to see that. You know, we all, we all got to witness the greatness that you know tiger woods did and you know, that's, that's, that's what you want to remember.

Speaker 3:

That's that's. You don't want to see the limping tiger, the the you know, barely make a cut tiger right, exactly, so, yeah, all right.

Speaker 1:

So let's see, uh, we'll do some, we'll do some trivial, we'll do some trivial stuff, uh who's? The last person to repeat for the open. Do you know?

Speaker 3:

To repeat.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, the last repeat champion.

Speaker 3:

No, the tiger repeat.

Speaker 1:

No, was not tiger.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's where I fall short here.

Speaker 1:

I, I, I look at these up and I'm like oh shit, totally forgot about that, so I would not have thought Was it recent or was it before Tiger 2008. Oh wow, 2008. 2008 and 2009.

Speaker 2:

Stenson.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, phil, I think that's wrong.

Speaker 2:

Matthew Wangenyot.

Speaker 4:

Podrick Harrington 2008 and 2009 was the last one.

Speaker 1:

That's right. Yeah, Massfield, 100% he's going to get a waggle counter.

Speaker 3:

For sure.

Speaker 1:

Did you see the interview where they were talking about the hate he was getting as he was walking through the crowd from the fans about how long he takes?

Speaker 2:

No, I didn't see that.

Speaker 1:

They had an interview with him on Live At Too many interviews. I want to see the course Too many interviews going on. Right now, every time I turn it on, it's a press conference and an interviews.

Speaker 2:

but he was saying that you know a lot of people were giving him shit for it you know, what really made me sad is all the focus on the postage stamp and like being able to play, like the recreation of it out at Royal links, right and uh, knowing I mean looking at it on TV it's like it was very similar. The yardage might not have been different, it was like it was pretty fucking accurate and we can't go do that anymore. So it's uh, it's a rip Royal links type of week for me, because I think the post-its stamp it's going to get a lot of love this week.

Speaker 1:

How epic would it have been to have the VGN tournament at Royal links this weekend?

Speaker 2:

That would have been great.

Speaker 1:

God, it's that place Screw you. Portable housing.

Speaker 2:

That's a terrible thing to say but government cheese, screw you, government cheese you run a really good golf course that we really liked.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, that's what he said. You're right. Uh, you don't have the stones. They said you don't have the stones to pull this off and he's like, yeah, I do, yeah, for sure he does all right, uh, so the par five. Sixth hole 623 yards. It'll be the longest in open history.

Speaker 3:

That's pretty crazy yeah 10 time hosting, the first time since 2016. Go ahead. I would say Oberg, today he hit a drive on that hole for 49. They said he had like 165 yards in or some shit like that. I can see why it's 623 yards now.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, prevailing wind must be downwind.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Oh my God, I just realized something. I completely blanked on this. How about a huge fucking congratulations to Harry Hall oh yeah. Jesus Christ I was. I had fucking goose, goosies, that whole playoff and when he hit that chip.

Speaker 1:

Sorry, we're going to go off script for a minute here. Holy crap, was that not one of the best chip-ins of the season? Huge win for him Exemption for two years. He gets his tour card for two years. He's in the century, he's in the players, he's in, I think, the pga championship. Um doesn't have to worry about, you know, trying to maintain his status. Uh can take that pressure off. Getting ready to have his baby on friday uh, his what's in the bag today that he did was awesome. Then he showed the baby carrier that got me to go to the hospital. So happy for him. The guy works so hard. But one of the key things I think he went and saw Butch and he said that in the interview and he had said it on social a couple times. But he said Butch has him aiming at flags and has him aiming right and it just goes to show you how you can have a guy with so much talent as he has. And you know, professional golf is very hard. It's very hard to win on tour.

Speaker 2:

It's incredibly cool, it's miniscule man even in opposite field events.

Speaker 1:

It is incredibly hard. There was five guys in that playoff and, uh, you know, when he hit that ob t shot I was like shit but didn't give up, fought back, fought through the playoffs. That bunker shot was absolutely insane. Um, and, knowing to stay right and I wasn't a fan of the driver, I was like put the damn driver away.

Speaker 2:

None of us were in our yeah nobody was Um and uh.

Speaker 1:

But then that chip dropped, man and I just had goosebumps. Um, so happy for him, so happy for his family and happy that, uh, you know this is going to be a step forward for him big time, hell yeah.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I obviously was not a big fan of the driver. I think his resiliency to like really stay in it because I know playoffs can be very difficult, especially in a five-man playoff Like I feel like watching him he was in it, you know, and that's very hard to stay in that zone and he was like he was fighting for it. He fought for that, yeah, and to fight for pars when a knee Smith was very close could have made a birdie. He fought for it.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and what a way to fucking shut down that door, bro. Like that chip in was sick.

Speaker 1:

That changed those guys whole perspective on that shot.

Speaker 5:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 1:

Just uh, they. They went from chip this close to. I gotta make this now, yeah.

Speaker 2:

I yeah, and you could see, uh, what, what was the guy he like, he kind of duffed it a little bit. Oh yeah, neesmith had a decent one, but just the awesome way to shut the door on him Like chip skiing, or like I love me a chip skiing, or all day to shut the door, like so good, shout out Harry hall always yes, but how about?

Speaker 3:

even on 18 and regulation? He had that like what 12 footer left to right?

Speaker 1:

To save par, to get into the path. I mean that was that even, even the chip yeah, with his foot on the rocks you know yeah that I mean that ball. It happened to, uh, the other guy where it went, you know, into the hazard, and he couldn't play it yeah, you know, you need those breaks sometimes and, uh, you know, lucky enough that he was able to get into that playoff.

Speaker 3:

And man, that was a killer chip. I mean, it was absolutely perfect.

Speaker 2:

It rolled in like a perfect cut he, he fought it out, like to get to that chip. He fought it out which could have easily packed it in.

Speaker 1:

After hitting that shot, ob, totally, totally and I mean, wow, yeah, that was awesome huge congrats to him. You know I told these guys we uh, jeremy and joe, and I played with him out at piute for a media event. I said check off, play with pga tour winner yeah, we need.

Speaker 2:

You need to text him and get him on the pod. Yeah, he's a little busy, I know, I know. I know he's busy. Maybe in like a few weeks yeah, let's yeah a few weeks absolutely, yeah.

Speaker 1:

yeah, that ace is just lost. That bums me out.

Speaker 3:

Is he at the Open?

Speaker 1:

No. No he's not. No, he hadn't. I don't know if he tried. I didn't see, because last year he was in the qualifiers and just missed out.

Speaker 3:

But wouldn't that win get him in? I was just going to ask that Does the win get him in?

Speaker 1:

that. They said that Aaron Rye and two other people got the final spot the other day, so I don't remember.

Speaker 2:

That's what I was curious about.

Speaker 1:

Because when did Jordan Spieth win? Because Jordan Spieth won in 17. Didn't he win something? And he wasn't in the open? And they showed him on the plane going over. Can't remember what that was, anyways, was it 2014?.

Speaker 5:

When he won the John Deere or.

Speaker 1:

Maybe that's what it was. I know, I know he got a win and it got him in, but I don't know if, with the baby coming, if he even wanted to be there.

Speaker 2:

True.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I get that you know.

Speaker 2:

Um hey, but fucking monumental win. Nobody can say shit like who cares if the top 10 weren't in the field?

Speaker 1:

I'd work on harry hall one there was five people. Epic fashion playoff epic fashion go harry yes, absolutely okay, sorry about that, I can't I. I wanted to leave with that. I was thinking about it the other day and then I yeah, I thought that would have been one of the first.

Speaker 2:

We, we, we dropped the ball. We dropped the haggis, harry, we dropped, we dropped the guinness, drop the guinness.

Speaker 3:

All right, um drop the pasty we dropped the Guinness we dropped the Guinness.

Speaker 2:

We dropped the pasty.

Speaker 1:

We dropped the pasty so 2016 was the Stenson-Phil battle coming down the stretch. That was a good open.

Speaker 3:

I remember that that was a good open. Those fuckers ran away with it too, I think. Didn't they win by like? I mean, I know Stenson won by one, but I think they were like still five or six shots clear.

Speaker 1:

Something to hit. Yeah, they were pretty good. Those guys went off Pretty good ahead of everybody else. All right, so last thing I was going to do see if you guys have any good wrecking you can remember.

Speaker 2:

Winging yachts.

Speaker 1:

Yes, last year's winner, you got that right waggle, waggle harman uh in 22 shane lowry.

Speaker 2:

Oh, oh, one year late. Call it, no. Is it calling calling what's before shane, right, I don't remember. I don't remember when you're late, when you're late, when you're late, call it no. Is it calling colin was before shane? Is it calling colin was before shane? Is it calling colin was before shane? Right, wrong no yeah, I don't remember. Oh uh, cam smith. Yeah, I don't remember. Oh uh, cam smith, cam smith, there you go. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, oh, that's right. St Andrews, then Shane, colin, then Shane.

Speaker 1:

Wait, there was nobody in 2020. Fuck. The previous winner is Shane Lowry 2019.

Speaker 2:

Fucking dickhead 2018.

Speaker 1:

Dick and yacht. Dick and yacht. That's hilarious 2018. One of Joe's favorite golfers 18.

Speaker 2:

Man, this is like when I started playing golf Molinari.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, 17. Jeremy.

Speaker 5:

Jordan Spieth 16.

Speaker 1:

We talked about it, that was Stenson, one of the, I'll just say. And 15. Anybody, it's on you guys, guys, going back a little far, this was the unprecedented Zach Johnson win greatest Ryder Cup captain of all time 2014 that was 10 years ago.

Speaker 3:

That was Roars. I think that was the last one he won yeah, yeah, yeah 13 call him montgomery no, that was phil. 2016 was phil 12. I got it going back to 06, so 2012 was darren clark, I think oops, sorry, sorry, ernie, else you were off by one year darren clark was an Darren Clark I think.

Speaker 1:

Sorry, ernie Els.

Speaker 5:

You were off by one year.

Speaker 1:

Darren Clark was the next 2010. I couldn't believe this happened this long ago 2010. It was 14 years ago.

Speaker 3:

Was that Stewart Cink?

Speaker 1:

Close. That was 2009. That was 29. Oh fuck, 29. That was 2009.

Speaker 2:

Put your futures in on Stewart Cink for 2029. Louie.

Speaker 1:

And then Padraic won in 2008, 2007, and 2006.

Speaker 3:

Tiger.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so that's the previous winners of this major.

Speaker 5:

I think that in an interview with Rory they asked him that and he went back like 30 years or something.

Speaker 1:

He knew all.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, he did very well.

Speaker 1:

I think he got like one or two kind of bad. Yeah, dude, I'm so bad. I was like who just won the US Open? Yeah, I'm the same way. I forget, I'm so good. And then I see that I'm like, oh, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I remember that.

Speaker 2:

Speaking of the US Open winner. The us open winner, uh, is um. How's bryson gonna do what?

Speaker 5:

you guys think, I think he'll do well, yeah, I think it'll do decent.

Speaker 2:

And who's the favorite besides scheffler? And I mean, I've looked at this. There's got to be a favorite chef where shopley rory which is interesting because has scheffler done well at the Open? I mean, it's very different. It's a very different golf course than you know what they typically play.

Speaker 3:

That's true, but I don't think they're going to go off the current stuff instead of you know pass.

Speaker 2:

Oh, totally yeah, of course, but I mean it's different, you, you're right, I don't know.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I don't know. I can't recall him really playing very well at any open.

Speaker 1:

He didn't finish in the didn't finish in the top 10 last year. C2000, I mean it's like.

Speaker 2:

It's like jeremy playing bannon for the first time he's. It's going to be very different for him.

Speaker 3:

Jeremy's going to love Bannon. He's going to tear it up.

Speaker 1:

He did finish T6 in 22. Okay, where was that?

Speaker 2:

at when was 22 at that was that was. St Andrews, wasn't it?

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 5:

St Andrews.

Speaker 1:

That's the one we thought Tiger would be back for. Very flat, yeah, very flat.

Speaker 5:

TTA in 2021.

Speaker 1:

So two top tens. Okay, what happened last year?

Speaker 5:

I think he only had one top 10.

Speaker 1:

He said T6 and T8.

Speaker 5:

Where's the T6?

Speaker 1:

22.

Speaker 5:

This is T21. What, yeah, t21 in 22, t23 and 23 24 and 22 20 tt fucking wikipedia. Somebody's changing I just updated it.

Speaker 2:

Fucking scotty shepherd going in and updating fucking Wikipedia. Man, it's like I got a shot, guys, I got a shot.

Speaker 1:

Oh, too funny, Too funny. All right, I don't know what else you guys want to talk about with this. Do you want to talk?

Speaker 3:

about it.

Speaker 1:

Do you want to do something else? So silent?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I mean I don't know. I mean I don't know you, I don't, I don't know.

Speaker 1:

all right, so open well, why don't you bring up the odds, joe, and and, and? You can run down, like you know, the top 10, top 15 odds. Um, this is, I mean, I think bryson has a chance to put on a show because he can just blast it down there.

Speaker 2:

Uh, scotty scheffler with his iron play, um you know, great opportunity I think the thing about the thing royal troon to me from what I've seen. I haven't watched much of live from the open or much coverage, but I feel like the bunkers around the greens are way more treacherous than anything we've seen in the past couple of years for the Open. So I don't think blasting it down there has much of an advantage for Bryson.

Speaker 1:

I think sometimes he can get past the trouble spots though.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, but I think with it being so firm and fast with the bunkers around the greens greens if he ends up in one of those, it could be detrimental. So that's that's my thought. Is it being firm and fast? Uh, you could end up in some very bad spots around the green.

Speaker 5:

So seems like trune is a lot more narrow than I remember as well, just didn't. The videos I've been watching there's just nowhere.

Speaker 1:

Well, jeremy and I played it at the golf stop. It destroyed us. It felt like we did not know how to play golf. Yeah, you miss fairways. You're in trouble.

Speaker 2:

So the odds here is Scotty Scheffler 4.5 to 1. Rory is 8.5 to 1. Z the the odds here is Scotty Scheffler four and a half to one. Rory is eight and a half to one. Xander 11 to one. Bryson 14 to one, along with column or Calva and Lou Ludwig. Uh, fleetwood is 21. Brooks 25 to one. Terrell Hatton 25 to one, along with John rum, which I feel like he's having a terrible time, uh, and he has no chance to win personally. Uh, robbie mcintyre 30 to 1, which was a great win.

Speaker 1:

Hell of a putt this week 30 to 1 is great odds for him.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, he's from playing well too. Yeah right, that high victor can't lay 35 to 1.

Speaker 2:

Uh, we'll go all the way to 50. Tony tom kim 40 to 1, cam smith and shane lowry 45 to 1. I think shane is really good sitting there at 45 to 1. I think that's a good pick, uh, aaron rye, hadeki matsuyama 50 to 1, and then the rest of the field, uh, below that. But I think rom is a great bet at missing the cut for sure. Uh, he's not. He's. He's definitely not been enjoying himself on live. Uh, there's not going to be drones flying around his head, which he's used to nowadays um, but yeah, I I yeah, how about?

Speaker 1:

how about missing that putt to win on live and then going to a playoff and losing, and not only losing the team, but the individual, but the team that was yeah, that was a rough one and that was a much easier putt than rory's us open putt hold on, who was that again, that guy from that league?

Speaker 2:

uh, yeah, I know, I know what you're talking about he was on bryson's team. Yeah, oh yeah yeah, that looked like a, like a right center putt, you know, and he just fucking just tap.

Speaker 1:

I mean the putty tapped in after that was just as close oh yeah, that laugh was covering up.

Speaker 5:

Yes, we did boy, yes, we did two and earlier next time.

Speaker 1:

Is he just now showing up?

Speaker 2:

yeah, go get yourself philly cheesesteak the wonky.

Speaker 1:

Hey, I'm gonna be doing that.

Speaker 3:

Uh, tuesday you're going to philly on tuesday yeah, I am.

Speaker 1:

I will not. I will not be here next week, joe um easy game, easy game g knows that's. That's where we have scheduled to go to, so yeah, oh yeah, I don't mind it.

Speaker 3:

I know what, I know what cheese is disgusting and I remember when I ordered my first cheesecake over there or a che, my first cheesecake over there I told the lady I don't want any fucking cheese. I put some provolone on that. They looked at me and crossed my eyes.

Speaker 4:

You guys are disgusting.

Speaker 2:

Trash fucking garbage sandwich with cheese. Most underrated Philadelphia sandwich is the roast pork with broccoli, rabe and Swiss cheese. You got to get that joint, them joints is fire.

Speaker 3:

Them joints is fire. That sounds better than the cheesesteak I had.

Speaker 2:

Underrated.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so we're taking off Saturday night and we're going to go to Boston, going to go see the Habba up in Boston, going to tee it up with my buddy Pat at a course out there, so I'll get to check Massachusetts off the list of states that I've played golf in. Then we're gonna be in Boston for a couple days and we're headed down to Philly for a day and then we're going over to DC spending a couple days there and then end up a couple days with my sister before we come back.

Speaker 3:

So guys just doing like some bunch of historical stuff.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, well, you know Dan was going off to college, so last family vacay with all of us. Oh yeah, so this is one that we've wanted to do for a while.

Speaker 3:

And you got to go to the Smithsonian.

Speaker 1:

Yeah Well, the American History Museum definitely going to go to the Smithsonian. Yeah well, the American History Museum definitely going to hit that, and the Space Museum or the Space and Aeronautic Museum going to do that for sure, 100%.

Speaker 2:

I did go to the Smithsonian and the Black History Museum. If you're a hip hop fan, you can go down there and see Jay Dilla's MPC. I looked at Jay Dilla's MPC and I cried, which is no surprise to anybody.

Speaker 1:

No.

Speaker 2:

But I looked at it and I was like I started crying. Jay Dilla is the greatest hip hop producer of all time, but yeah, the East Coast is so different, man. There's just so much history and there's so many things to do.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, this is true. We're not renting a car. We're taking the metro and the train between cities, um, just doing carry-on, no big bags, so um with the transportation back east. Good luck the, the money we saved on renting a car and driving it through three states. Uh, we upgraded our hotel stays, so we're'm going to stay in some some classy joints in in in Boston and so, yeah, then I'm hopefully going to play some golf with my brother-in-law in Virginia.

Speaker 3:

So we'll check another state off the list, the Red Sox the Red Sox and Yankees would have to be playing at Fenway while you're in Boston, right?

Speaker 1:

I don't know, I haven't even looked.

Speaker 3:

I mean, you probably wouldn't even have time for that, huh yeah, but I would love to do that.

Speaker 1:

Hell yeah, I would go see a Red Sox game just to go to Fenway Park, just because it's such a historical venue Sure, even though I can't stand it. I would still do it, yeah.

Speaker 3:

I remember.

Speaker 1:

I went to a Dodger game with a buddy of mine and I was wearing my Yankee jersey and this guy looked at me and he's like what are you doing? I'm a baseball fan. I'm going to go check out other stadiums. So, Joe, you got a guest lined up for next week, or what's the deal?

Speaker 2:

I have a thought. I have not lined it up yet, but I do have a couple thoughts.

Speaker 1:

So uh, we shall see next week maybe, yeah, well, we shall have tiger woods on the podcast next week.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's when I've gone who's your favorite golf person in the industry and I'll try and get them that way you're gone.

Speaker 1:

My favorite golf person in the industry Wow, I've never even thought about that.

Speaker 5:

It's his friend from LAGP, nick, yeah.

Speaker 2:

I can get Nick, I can text Nick, I can shout out Nick on the podcast.

Speaker 1:

He's my guy right now, man.

Speaker 2:

Who would you really be disappointed to have on the podcast when you're not able to get on the podcast, and I'll do my best to get them on next week Ryan Moore.

Speaker 3:

I'm going to chat with.

Speaker 1:

Ryan Moore Still close to True and UNLV fanboy.

Speaker 2:

I'm going to get in the true Linksware Discord currently Ask.

Speaker 1:

Hey, rymo want to come on the podcast.

Speaker 2:

What would it take to get Rymo on the podcast?

Speaker 1:

Joe's going to book him and all of a sudden he's going to open up the software and he's going to say Denied, Can't access the server. That's wrong.

Speaker 2:

No, I have some thoughts. I have some thoughts. There is a couple of people that I need to ask Get on it. You guys are here next week, right? Yep, yeah, what would you guys like to talk about next week? What would enthuse you? Would it be golf or clubs, or culture?

Speaker 1:

Brian on golf courses.

Speaker 2:

Because at that point we're going to only be 1.8 weeks away from Bandon. What would you guys like to talk about?

Speaker 3:

I was going to say, depending on how it could be, depending on how the open finishes, we could be talking about that. You never know, it depends on who wins and how good that week is. We can definitely and always talk about Bannon. We are what I was chatting Two and a half weeks out, two weeks out.

Speaker 1:

I was chatting with Joe about this they were, when they were playing the Scottish open the one of the broadcasters I can't remember who it was, but he was talking about links courses and he said and I sent this to Joe to see if if he had heard this um, it's not called a links golf course, it's called a golf course on links land. That's the proper terminology According to this gentleman. This gentleman, um, the, when back thousands of years ago, when the water receded, the water levels of the, the oceans dropped and exposed that lynx land, it wasn't fertile land that you could grow the crops that they grow. What is that?

Speaker 2:

I sent him a message. I got the perfect guest, if he can do it.

Speaker 1:

And so that's why it's called that Lynx. It's called Lynx Land Golf courses on Lynx Land. So Bandon is not technically a Lynx golf course, it is a Lynx style golf course. But the land that it is on is not linked links land because it's elevated, it's not at sea level. So it was interesting. I had never heard that before.

Speaker 2:

so and also let's use this opportunity to everybody that says hey, what are you doing this weekend? I'm gonna go hit the links. You're not going to hit the links, okay, you're going to play golf on a golf course. You're going to the course, you're going to a golf course. Links, I mean, I get, I get what you're saying, because they're linked together.

Speaker 1:

What are you telling? True links, where, then?

Speaker 2:

they are built for the links because they're great golf shoes, and they are built for stormy weather and rugged situations to where they can survive in a lynx land there you go all right so which we have, none of you don't have, you don't have to wear them on the links, but that's why they're created, because the foundation of the theology is based on being able to wear them in rugged situations, in a, on a land that was built for something rugged and to be able to play golf with. Put me on the spot, let's go you never wore their first pair.

Speaker 2:

That's why well, and and with anything, it takes time to grow and learn. And they are, uh, that's what I wear to work, that's what I wear to golf. I mean, they're, they're the best.

Speaker 1:

Shout out, true I'm really happy with the, the g18s.

Speaker 2:

I just ordered the lux g's. I ordered the lux g's. I gotta hopefully I can get them on my feet a couple times, because when you go to band and you don't want to wear new shoes. You got to break them in a little bit, so I ordered them. I didn't get the gray ones, like you, dan, so I ordered the black and white. They're fine, no.

Speaker 3:

Trust me, bro, you're not going to need much breaking in. They're comfortable out of the box.

Speaker 2:

Well, I got two weeks.

Speaker 1:

That's good. Yep, yep. I sent Joe some videos today. I didn't know had I sent all those to you prior.

Speaker 2:

I think a couple of them. Yeah, I think a couple of them, yeah.

Speaker 1:

The yellow ball flight is awesome on that blue sky. It really stands out on the the shot on the alps hole and then the shot on on pack yeah, it's cool to see those so great hey, trey. Trey had a suggestion earlier. He sent me a text and he goes what do you think if we get a disposable camera and get the photos developed? And and I said that's a great idea, but why don't we get eight disposable?

Speaker 2:

cameras yeah, we need more than one.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we need more than one and just everybody have one, and then at the end of the trip, when we all get back, go get them developed and put it together for something. I don't know, but I think that would be fun to get everybody's different view.

Speaker 3:

I don't think one camera's going to do it, though. No no no, everybody needs one. All eight of us are going to have to get four of them. Yeah, they got a 32-pack.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, prime days, prime days. Take advantage now.

Speaker 2:

Being so close to departure, I'm curious how you feel, jeremy. We're going to talk about this, probably for the next two.

Speaker 5:

I'm getting anxious.

Speaker 3:

For sure. I'm curious to know Jeremy's rankings on the course.

Speaker 2:

I think it's so cool, right? So I literally, and I did a dog walk talks to this the other night and I didn't post it because I don't know why I didn't post it, but I did it last night and it's't post it because, uh, I don't know why I didn't post it, but I did it last night and it's um, it was me talking about booking this trip and I literally remember I was downstairs in my house and katie was on her work laptop and I was it's fuck you.

Speaker 2:

I was I was on the phone. I was literally on the phone with bandon reservations and we're 18. They're like we have august of 2024 open and this is march of 23 and I'm like, uh, okay, you have that open. And I'm trying to like text you guys and talk to them at the same time and I'm like this is a year and a half away, like, and they want five, they want five thousand dollars from me you know, like are you?

Speaker 2:

guys good with it and I'm like trying to do it as fast as I can and it's just so cool, like and I look back like it was a risk and like you guys are all my friends and I trust all you guys with everything. But like to do that and we're so close to the precipice of this trip and to share a moment with everyone. Like I'm so stoked because it was literally 17.25 months ago that I was pacing back and forth my kitchen putting $5,000 on my credit card, and so I'm I'm so excited, I'm beyond stoked and I can't, I can't wait. It's going to be so much fun. Book a golf trip, do it. Who cares, it'll work out in the end, do it.

Speaker 1:

I knew it was getting close. It's getting close because I had my first band and nightmare dream. You know, I was talking to jeremy about this a couple weeks ago when I don't know, and we this is something I don't know if I've ever asked, dan or joe but do you guys have like golf dreams where you can't play golf like you have? You have a problem teeing the ball up? Uh, you just no. Oh yeah, no, but I was.

Speaker 2:

I was walking cinco the other day and my knee started hurting. I'm like you better fucking chill out, bro. Like you're, you can't hurt right now.

Speaker 1:

So I I had a. I had a dream that it was like we're getting ready to go to the airport and I I get in the car and I'm like, oh crap, I didn't pack any of like my you know toothbrush, deodorant, you know the, the bathroom essentials. I'm like shit. I'm like, well, I'll just get it there, okay. Then I was like wait a minute. Did I pack my clubs, you know? And so I'm like paranoid and I'm running throughout the house like trying to find my clubs and I go out to the garage and like the garage has been converted to this like art studio and I'm like where are all my golf clubs, you know? And just that type of paranoia. Dream about us going to bandit.

Speaker 2:

So I know it's close yeah, I mean this saturday will mark two weeks, I mean, and it it feels like so much further away, but it's like it's going to come so fast. Oh, I know, I mean.

Speaker 1:

Well, just because we got the tournament this week, this weekend flying out of town, going to be gone for a week, come back and it's like we're leaving in four days.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, don't even unpack, matt.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you'll be good.

Speaker 1:

Jeremy, put unpack matt. Yeah, you'd be good. You know, jeremy, put all my clothes. I'm gonna pack them all up and and hide it in the attic so in case the house gets.

Speaker 2:

I'm really I'm really, really, really curious how jeremy feels currently because we've all been there, yeah, and it's like, it's like super hype for you. It's super, super hype for you. I get that.

Speaker 5:

But yeah it's like, it's like christmas eve when you're a kid, but it's like weeks long. Yeah, it's like it can't. It can't come soon enough, but I'm also worried that it's going to go so fast oh, what are those?

Speaker 1:

what are those calendars called at christmas, when?

Speaker 2:

you advent calendars we need to make one of those for Bandit.

Speaker 1:

Abandon.

Speaker 2:

Advent Calendar we should. You open it up and you get a bandit ball. You'll never be as excited like pulling up. And then there's no sadder feeling driving away, which really sucks. It's over, you'll never know when you're going to get there again, and hopefully it's over. You'll never know when you're gonna get there again, and hopefully it's soon.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, very excited alright, let's try and not end it on that somber note.
