Speaker 1:

Welcome one and all to the Toe Professional Podcast. Remember, this is your podcast. It's for the pros that have a need to know, that are on the go. This is truly the voice of the towing and recovery industry. I'm DJ Harrington, your co-host. I'm better known as the Toad Doctor and the real host of this program. The man himself is the president and publisher of Toad Professional Magazine, a good friend of the industry and a dear friend of mine, darren Weaver Darren, how are you this beautiful day?

Speaker 2:

Man, dj, I am fantastic. It's a beautiful day today in birmingham and it's a cool 95 degrees with maybe 84 percent humidity. So I am happy. So I am happy to be inside talking to you instead of outside. And, uh, let's certainly, let's certainly pray for our first responders, for our, for our drivers, our listeners out there that are out there in this heat, because it's a tough one.

Speaker 1:

You ain't kidding. And this podcast drops the week of the 4th of July, so we want to wish happy birthday to all of our listeners and thank them very much, because this is the fastest growing podcast and it's doing excellent. So it's because of the magazine. People read the magazine, they look at the podcast, and my next article is about the podcast, so this has been a good one.

Speaker 2:

Yes, definitely will be, dj. Well, I tell you, you know, last time we did, we were talking about training and how important that was an industry and, and me and you were talking about training and how important that was in industry, and me and you were talking about it behind the scenes. And I think the next switch from that is to step over and talk about what can also enhance roadside safety, which is safety when towing, is lighting, and lighting is one of those keys to safety, whether on the roadside, stopping up a vehicle or whether trying to light a scene so you can see how to properly rig equipment. So I thought this would be a great one.

Speaker 1:

Oh yes. So why don't we do this In the first segment, darren? Why don't we talk about my dear friends TowMate's high-tech answer to roadside hazards? What do you think about that?

Speaker 2:

Man. I think that's a great place to start, without a doubt. As you know from one of the leaders in the industry, towmate for lighting, those guys are always pushing the envelope to find the latest and most effective products in the industry for their buyers, for their consumers, the industry for their buyers, for their consumers. And let me tell you one thing is that they've come to market with that a lot of folks are seeing out. There is the TowMate LS UVA. It's a portable, rechargeable cone-mounted light and DJ. This thing flashes red and blue, also has the ability to flash white and amber and the benefits of emergency vehicle lighting without violating federal law. So this thing's within federal law. You get the benefits of being able to use those red and blues if that's what you choose to use, or you can use the whites and ambers, and this Lifesaver UFA can change the in terms of roadside safety. It's a game changer because when it comes to work zone awareness, uh, the TM LSU VA portable uh cone mounted light is phenomenal. So it really changes the scene.

Speaker 1:

Well then, let me ask this I love to a mate and of course they were very kind to me up at the tow show Um, tell us a little bit about the. Tomei has spearheaded this development of a patented high intensity, non-visible intelligent illumination technology, which they shortened it to H-I-N-V-I-I. How's that?

Speaker 2:

Man, I'll tell you that's the best way to say it, because I was gonna say consume tight after the other, because that was a lot, that's a high intensity, non-visible, intelligent illumination technology that is a mouthful for a toer I tell you, man, but what it comes down to is, with the inclusion of this light, if you use their SS470 UVA light and the Towmates LS, so the Lifesaver UVA portable lighting system line of products this illuminates the safety vest and select road markers. This creates a presence that is highly visible to the motorist and it's largely invisible to the workers, so it doesn't get in their line of sight and it helps prevent any distraction or impairment, like I said, from night vision. So these products used together are, without a doubt, a game changer and it's a tremendous impact on roadside safety. It's a the reach of technology really creates safer workspaces world over by having products like this DJ. So I think they're phenomenal and I certainly say, if our listeners want more information about it, the key is go out there, go to tomatecom.

Speaker 2:

Their website is expansive, has all the products and information on it. Or you can give them a call at 800-680-4455 and just ask them. Say, hey, we heard about the Lifesaver UVA portable rechargeable cone-mounted light and we also heard about the new SS470 UVA. Tell us more about it or how can we get it? You give them a call, towmatecom or 800-680-4455, and they'll answer your question.

Speaker 1:

You got it Well. Let's take a fast break, Darren, because the next segment is another dear friend of mine that I met in the recycling industry years ago and he does a lot in towing. Oh god, do they okay?

Welcome back listeners. Of course you know you're listening to the number one podcast. This is Toe Professional on the Go podcast. Every week we do our best, darren and I, to bring you informative episodes like this one. Please download and listen Spotify, itunes, pandora, stitcher, iheartmedia, amazon or wherever you get your podcasts. So, darren, just before the break, we were talking about a great company. Let's change this up a little bit. Let's talk about some more awesome products when it comes to lighting with Welberg Industries. Now, darren, tell us about our dear friends on their latest products so our listeners can see on the page of TP and upcoming shows.

Speaker 2:

Well, man, I tell you, this is just another fantastic company and, just like Tomei DJ, they were one of our pioneers of industry that we did a feature on in the past, and so has been Wilbert. It's a company that's been around 100 plus years. Fantastic company, and let me tell you. Let's start out with one of their fantastic products they put out called the Pylite Sequential Smart Flares.

Speaker 2:

Now, these smart flares come in a pack. They come in orange, blue and red in packs of six or ten. And these sequential flares have 20-plus hours run time, so they can be placed on the ground or on top of a cone and flash and sink in order of placement. And the way they work is really simple. They power on right as you pull them out of the box and they sync one after another as you take them out. So it makes it really simple. We just talked about with TowMate one way to get that cone-mounted light and have a better perspective and be seen more, be highly visible on the road. This is another way to mark your scene with a pilot sequential smart flares and it's another solution for Wilbert.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so now that we're talking about Wilbert Darren, let's switch gears to a situation that tow professionals run into all the time, that require a lot of illumination. Tell us about the Wilbert's night scan, the PowerLight H. I guess it's called the PowerLight HTD, Is that? What I'm saying Am I right?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, powerlight HDT and it's a light tower and I know the folks in the industry know Wilbert as being one of the leaders when it comes to tower lighting and let me tell you they have a fantastic product here and DJ. One of the great advantages of this, of the HDT night scan, it's a 360 degree lighting with dual tilt capabilities. The workers are able to use a handheld remote. They're able to adjust lighting on the fly while moving about. And, secondly, not having to make trips back and forth to the truck for different types of lighting makes makes the scene run smoother and just simply helps the operators concentrate on what they have to operate on, which is staying safe and getting the job done in an efficient way while they're out there on the side of the road.

Speaker 2:

Now, another thing this thing does is the light tower brings light from above instead of the line of sight, and with this you get maximum visibility without being blinded.

Speaker 2:

But also it aids in warning oncoming traffic. It reduces the risk of not being seen. You can't miss one of these trucks working with the light towers on it on the side of the road, and it aids. They also have add-ins, uh, for those towers that can be integrated so you can integrate them with cameras, uh dvrs to help record your activity, and that helps with insurance and billing purposes. And uh, just to remind our, our listeners, these products, when you're putting them out on the road and you're using them, that's also a billable product that you can bill for. So, again, they help pay for their self. And when you're looking at the cost of some of this top-line product the Wilbur's Night Scan PowerLight HDT I mean AJ on a rotator it's like checking a box for a set of floor mats when it comes to cost, when you're looking at the big picture and cost and it's something that's billable, it pays for itself and it just makes the scene more professional.

Speaker 1:

Right, and how much does it cost to save a life? Because this nobody, everybody would see them.

Speaker 2:

Yes, yes, I couldn't have said it better myself. It's a product that will pay for itself. It will keep your workers safe and you can see, you can, as they say, you can light the scene. You bring your own light source and there's no guesswork after you're able to do it. And for more information on Wilbert, on the HDT night scan, for more information on Wilbert, on the HDT night scan, as well as the Pi light flares, smart flares, go to Wilbertcom. It's again a tremendous website. It's got a lot of sources, or you can just give the fine folks there at Wilbert a call at 330-684-4000. And let me tell you, when it comes to lighting, they've got you A to Z. So that's another fine customer we use client that we do business with that. I have heard nothing but great things about them, dj.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and if you read our magazine on a regular basis online or in person, by all means just call them at the 330 number. They're there. They're a great company. I'll endorse it. 110%. All right, darren, can we take a fast break and come right back with our last segment? Sounds great. Dp, you got it.

If you're a state association director, by all means. If you have something going on in your association, email us or just give us a holler 706, right here in the podcast center 706-409-5603. And we'll get it out to all of our listeners. And we got a ton. What I want to really do, I guess, is you're our dear friend and it's rp recovery consultant ron and I could not I love this guy, you know that.

Speaker 1:

So yeah, when I was, I want to tell our listeners when I was sick, ron was praying for me, and when ron was sick, we were all praying for him, so I'm glad you put him in this podcast oh, definitely, man, I tell you.

Speaker 2:

I tell you, ron Pullen is phenomenal. His wife, doreen, is phenomenal. What a great family you had brought them to me. Maybe 12 years ago we ran into each other talking at the Florida Toe Show and let me tell you, man, I got not only a client, but I got a friend and a friend. Tell you, man, I got not only a client, but I got a friend and a friend in Christ. Like you said, DJ, he is a phenomenal man and if you want to see what God can do, all you got to do is take a look at Ron, because he's brought him through a lot. And let me tell you, when we're talking about fantastic products and products that make you look professional on the side of the road, fantastic products and products that make you look professional on the side of the road, let me skip to one part. Here is his DECT7 wireless headsets, and I know everybody knows Ron Pullen from seeing him at the shows with RP Consultant Services and seeing the headsets he offered. Let me tell you, I watched the video video today online, dj, these guys did a tremendous job. I'm not going to call the company out, but did a tremendous job with a heavy rotator getting a overturned uh truck and uh and a trailer that was carrying several cars, so getting those up, but to see them run around on the scene and try and holler back and forth to each other. Everything else was so professional. The only thing they were missing and all I could think was God, these guys need the headsets. The Synetics headsets that Ron Pullen offers are hands down a game changer. And let me tell you the visibility is not required to talk Somebody's around the corner, you can still talk to them, listen through technology Side, covering range from 2 foot to 1,600. Adds another, like I said, adds another touch of professionalism and enhanced safety to your entire team. And again, just like we talked about with the light towers from Wilbur, this is a billable item. When you're using out there on the side of the road, it's a billable item, it pays for itself, not only in being able to do this easier on the scene, but you look professional. When you look professional, it just means more business.

Speaker 2:

Next part of this I wanted to talk about DJ is his lights, the AirLite series that Ron offers. He offers a 10-foot AirLite that's 29 pounds, sets up very quick. It's 336 watts and 36,000 lumens. So this thing absolutely puts some light out. It's real easy to carry in the side box. But if you need something bigger, they also offer an AirLite Pro. It's 12-foot tall, it's 64 pounds, 860 watts and 74,400 lumens. Now if you still only 8 pounds more and it's 1,100 watts and 111,000 lumens. So you're talking about lighting the scene up. He's got three cost-effective options here. So if you're not ready for a light tower yet, you still need some on-scene lighting, here's another option. So, again, not telling you what to use.

Speaker 2:

As always with Tow Professional, we want to bring you the informative information. Here's three tremendous companies Towmate, rp Recovery Consulting with Ron Pullen, and also Wilbert Industries. Every one of them has fantastic products and it comes down to what works best for your budget and your business. That will help you stay out of the red and stay in the black Again. Great products and guys. If you want to know more about RP Recovery Consultants either their DECT 7 wireless headsets to put more professionalism on the side of the road there when you're working you send them an email, recoveryconsulting at gmailcom, or just give them a call directly at 315-730-6566, and Ron will be glad to take care of you. He's a great man full of knowledge, toer in the industry as well, and he can tell you what will work right for your company. Again, dj, fantastic products and what a great person to buy from too. You can't beat it.

Speaker 1:

No, all three of these companies are led by wonderful people and you'd look back, every one of them stands for the flag and kneels for the cross. All three that you named are just great companies and they give back to the industry. They're always helping. If they see a need they're there. And a lot of state associations, you know they're always helping, they're always got, you know, helping the toer in the recovery family. These people are involved with the industry, which I'm kind of proud to know. All three of the companies, they're good people and I'm glad they're in the publication.

Speaker 2:

Without a doubt.

Speaker 1:

Now let me ask this of you. It's the Fourth of July weekend. We're going to wish happy birthday to everybody, happy birthday to our country. Thank you to all the service people that serve. Today. I'm coming out of Walmart and I'm a veteran and my license plate says veteran and of course now I have the handicap sticker. But a guy walks over and all of a sudden just looks at me and says thanks for your service and I'm like well, how do you know?

Speaker 1:

I don't have nothing in the military on me. And then I look at my license plate and he saw me getting out of my car and that's why he said it to me.

Speaker 2:

Well, but it means a lot, I tell you, because a lot of the new generation don't understand the sacrifice that went beforehand and if you get a chance, always think of that Also. Dj, when you spoke of associations, it really caught my attention because I wanted to bring this up once again. We got our great friends at TPRNC that will be having a Mid-Atlantic Tow Show. Let me tell you, I went to that one last year. If you've ever been to it before last year, forget everything. You know. It was a phenomenal show last year. Over 50 booths, you had 900-plus attendees and that thing is growing. Tremendous amount of show trucks. This year it's September, the 5th through the 7th at the Jim Graham Building and that's in Raleigh, north Carolina. Let me tell you, when I went last year it was beautiful. Weather was beautiful. Weather was fantastic. Let me tell you, carrie and her entire team phenomenal folks and they've got a heart and a passion for this industry and they poured every bit of it into the show. So let me tell you, vendors, if you can make sure you're there you won't You'll thank me for it. It's a great event. Trpnc at nctowingorg, or just give them a call at 919-921-8194.

Speaker 2:

And that's for the Mid-Atlantic Tow Show. That's September the 5th through the 7th. And then, right behind that DJ, we've got the Midwest Regional, our friends. This is the 46th year. I want to thank every one of those vendors that were there last year that made the point to be there on the start up of a new place and a new agenda, a new location for the show. But all I can say to you keep supporting this association. It's one of our favorite family shows. Bruce and the team really do a great job for making this a family show. And whether the show's packed or not, let me tell you something there's a lot of time to be had spending time with different vendors and it will pay you a hundredfold in the long term. So make sure you don't miss that show.

Speaker 2:

That show's September the 12th through the 15th. That's MidwestToeShoworg. If you want more information on it or you can call and get hotel information you can contact Bruce Bender at 513 831-7469. And that's again at the Robert Center in Wilmington, Ohio. It's a beautiful place and let me tell you that food will knock you out, man. We've got some great food there. All you can eat prime rib one day DJ. Oh yeah, for $29, man, I was there.

Speaker 2:

Woo, I thought they were going to be lassoing cows and lining them up at the back door with our crew. But what a great place. So two great shows coming up. So make sure, folks, when it comes to September, like I said, mid-atlantic show first, september 5th through the 7th Turn around, wash your clothes, rinse and repeat, go out the door and head to Midwest Regional. That's what I'm going to do, and I'm just hoping my dogs remember who I am when I get home.

Speaker 1:

Well, let me tell you, both of those shows are great shows, but up in Ohio, I'm going to tell all our listeners, when you sit down in that beautiful restaurant and you look at the prices and you go, that's all. Oh yeah, the prices are great and they're called lug nuts. Yes, how many lug nuts did I eat?

Speaker 2:

Boy, those things are good, they were delicious. You know, I'll tell you what was. What was neat, dj, when we when I first got in this industry the Ohio show there used to be. When you'd go to that show, the bar would throw on some themes that have themed drinks, that have themed food and so on, and then it just after a while people get used to that money and then they just stop doing the extra. Well, now CRAO's back in a place. They absolutely love the people that are coming there, they love the vendors, they love our attendees and they did like you said with the lug nuts and other things. They had themed food, they had themed drinks, they had all-you-could-eat soup and salad during the day. There was no reason to go anywhere else. They had some phenomenal food and the reason my pants fit a little bit tighter than they used to, but I'm looking forward to going back.

Speaker 1:

I have to tell our listeners, not only was the food, they had two phenomenal bands. They had one band on Friday night. Then Chuck Camp, the producer of this show, his band played Saturday night. Saturday night they.

Speaker 2:

Saturday night. They were really good yeah.

Speaker 1:

And then when people said they do karaoke, I sat there with Chuck thinking, oh, this is probably a nightmare, just the opposite.

Speaker 2:

Oh God, that was so much fun and if you like people watching, jump down there and just get you a cup full Cause it was, it was enjoyable and uh the taco bar.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, it was a free taco bar. Listeners, I want you to know that a free taco bar and Kevin Fox, who always is Kevin Fox, is from Florida. He's does a lot with the museum and I want you to know he had delicious cigars.

Speaker 1:

So he sat there and said, hey, doc, you want a cigar? And I said, yeah, but it would go better with a drink. So he bought my drink too. So we sat and smoked a cigar and listened to karaoke and I saw all the people that came from the camping area over because the camping area is packed All of our listeners. If you ever thought about bringing your whole family to an event, the camping site started at $35 and goes up and they have washers and dryers. They have where you can actually go in and take a shower. It's a phenomenal setup and that's the only one in the. You know it's a family fun environment, but it's the only one that has restricted area just for campers. So if you have a camper and you RV, bring that baby.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and, and this year they're doing something special. They're doing thursday night. They're doing that celebration of life, yes, and they're. They're gonna have a pig roast and they're gonna have cornhole and uh, fires out there and a and a full parade of trots and everything. So, folks, let folks, let me tell you, make sure you come up there early, because it's going to be a great show and anybody that knows Bruce Bender knows he pours everything into it. And let me tell you, if you get a chance, jump out there and enjoy this latest issue of Tow Professional DJ.

Speaker 2:

This one was something else. We had a special tribute issue to Women of Towing and covered one right here a real success story on the front cover being a woman running a company in industry and also having to balance a family and a company and tell her side on how she's been successful and keys to not letting that business run you into running it to these other great stories that are in here. It is phenomenal, so you're going to love this one. Also, we've got some fantastic information on service and maintenance. When it comes to broke off studs in those in heads, you know how bad that can be. You got to pull the head, send it to machine shop. Well, let me tell you, pro max has an answer for that. You can get it out, 20 minutes be done and move on, and it's unbelievable.

Speaker 2:

And then a feature on winches and accessories, where we have one of our favorites here, warrior winch, where they're fine products, fine products that have been a gold standard overseas, that are now becoming a standard here in America as well, very easy to get to and a quality product. So, listeners, make sure you check that out. Coming out should be hitting hands this week and DJ anything you want to say before we part.

Speaker 1:

No, I think this has been a great podcast. Every time you talk about, these are friends of ours, they're friends of the industry. They're always there to help. I think of Tomei. We were trying to raise money for a gentleman who passed away on the line working the line and they were so generous and you sit back and you go. You know you don't get people like that.

Speaker 1:

It was almost like here let me give it to you now, dj. Let me help you out and and we help families. That's why I'm saying any state association director has any information that they want put out on the podcast, get ahold of Darren or myself and we're happy to do it. We've been blessed by having the podcast and, darren, I'm blessed to have you as the real host. I'm your co-host, I'm your Ted McMahon type of guy, you know, just hanging in there with you, but you really are and I thank you and I thank what you're doing for the industry. Well, dj, I appreciate that, but I can't say enough about you, sir.

Speaker 2:

When I first saw you're doing for the industry Well, dj, I appreciate that. But I can't say enough about you, sir. When I first saw you in the industry I thought how would I get a man like that to work for me? What a phenomenal man. He's always got a smile on his face and he's always got inspiration in his heart. And boy, I tell you how God put it together.

Speaker 1:

Hey, Dan Messina, made sure.

Speaker 2:

No, yeah, definitely man, yeah, he runs.

Speaker 1:

If he called me one more time, I was going to say, all right, Messina, I'll do it.

Speaker 2:

When you got the big man in your corner, he puts everybody to work for you and they knew Messina wasn't going to be denied, so he put him on your case. Love it, love it. Well. Listeners again, we all joke, we cut out, but let me tell you we know we are truly blessed. If it wasn't for our listeners, if it wasn't for our wonderful vendors, we wouldn't be here today to be able to reach you. And our whole purpose in the industry is just give you the valid information so you can make a cognitive decision, pick what's best for your company and do well and thrive and bring your men and women home safely. And that's what we want.

Speaker 2:

So, heavenly Father, again we thank you for these people. We thank you for the hearts, the service heart we have in our first responders and our men and women of towing. We thank you for their dedication, their hard work and their always being there in time of need. And, dear Heavenly Father, we ask that you bless them for their perseverance, for their heart, for their work in this industry. You bless them physically, mentally and spiritually. We ask that, Father, we also ask you to bless our vendors for their tiring work in this industry, for their efforts to make this a safer industry and to bring products that will bless these owners and industry. We ask that you bless them for their efforts and listeners, till next time, continue to listen. We'll continue to put the information out there to help you with your business.

Speaker 2:

Until next time. Thanks again for my wonderful host. I feel more like the Ed McMahon myself, and DJ is certainly the Johnny Carson man. It's a blessing, hey, it's a blessing to have him in here and I'm just glad to hold the curtain when I get to. But, as always, we'll continue to work hard to put a great show out for our listeners and anything you need. All you have to do is call the hotline and we'll make sure that we bring it to your attention. Thanks again, god bless. Be safe out there. You.
