Speaker 1:

Hello, darling, you're listening to the Wake Up and Show Up podcast with your host, portia Scott. This podcast is a collection of interviews and stories weaving together life's pivotal moments and the decisions made to show up and impact humanity, one person at a time. Hello, darlings, and welcome to the Wake Up and Show Up podcast. Well, actually, welcome back to the Wake Up and Show Up podcast. I'm your host, portia Scott. I'm super excited because it's been a while, but there's something I've been working on and I've been scribbling it down in my notebooks and in my notes, but I hadn't had a chance to get behind the mic and say what I've been scribbling. I've actually been holding it really really close to my chest, really really close to my heart, and I hadn't told anyone about it because I wasn't sure how I wanted to communicate it with the world. So, while I can't promise you full episodes right away, what I will do is kind of bring you into the moments of gratitude that I have, that I have experienced, that I think about. If you've watched my Instagram, you've listened to my podcast, if you've watched any of my live shows, if you've been in any of my keynotes, one of the questions that I always ask is what are you grateful for? For me, it is grounding.

Speaker 1:

Gratitude is not this thing that superimposes the reality of life. It's not something that is supposed to cause you to push down your natural, your raw and real emotions, whether high, whether low, whether in between. But gratitude really is that moment of pause when the world is kind of heavy and it feels like the weight of the world is on your shoulder. You know that feeling where it feels like you just can't get a breath. Gratitude is a pause. Or have you ever had those moments where you're super, super excited and life is just amazing and maybe you're on a family vacation or you're with some friends and in this moment that almost makes your eyes water because you can't believe that you are right here. Gratitude gives you pause. It's like that moment of stepping out on a date for the first time, or having your first child, or going out to a really fancy restaurant, or maybe getting on the plane for the first time. All of those emotions are mixed, but gratitude gives you pause.

Speaker 1:

Gratitude is not this thing that we just want to make it seem that life is just like swinging through the dandelions or swinging through the roses or wherever it is that you want to swing from, but gratitude allows us to pause. Gratitude reminds us of the moments that we can't relive, but we can always remember. It triggers us to be reminded of those moments, those moments of excitement, those moments of just being, the moments we need to think about when life has started. Life is parenting is parenting, wife is wifeing, husband is husband, entrepreneur is entrepreneur, career is career. But gratitude allows us this moment of pause.

Speaker 1:

Gratitude not only gives us pause, but it also brings us together. It's the glue to humanity that I think is often just lingering out there, and sometimes we don't say it out loud, but we say it internally. We've been going on a walk or hike and we've seen a deer and we're like, wow, that's beautiful. That's gratitude. We've been looking up at the sky and we're like, wow, it's raining so very hard. But where's all this rain coming from? Gratitude, maybe we tickled the toes of our children and heard them laugh. Gratitude. Maybe it's that moment where you take the knife for the first time and you realize that cooking is your love. Gratitude, maybe it's that moment when you're walking down the aisle and you realize I'm sitting in this white dress and man, I've never imagined this, or I have imagined this Gratitude.

Speaker 1:

Gratitude is the moment that you're holding someone's hand in the hospital and they've been told some really bad news, but you're there and you have this moment Gratitude. Gratitude is that moment where you've been going and doing and doing and a door finally looks like it's open and then it closes. Then it's the lesson that you learned after that. That's gratitude. And so what I aim to do are to give you these little snippets of gratitude for your day. They're called espresso shots. Not a big coffee pod or a big coffee mug, but just a quick espresso, almost like sitting outside in a café in Paris enjoying a croissant, enjoying your espresso as you people watch, because sometimes even that is gratitude.

Speaker 1:

So I invite you to come along this journey, as we explore these moments of gratitude, that, when we are bawling our eyes out and we don't know if we can get out of bed, that we have this one moment of gratitude. Or maybe it is when we are in our car and we're in non-stop traffic, like it is in Atlanta, la or DC, and we're like I have a car gratitude. These are just espresso shots, ways to express our gratitude Besides gratitude, just being a pause and being a glue that connects to humanity. Lastly, gratitude changes the perception of our current situation, of our current moment, because sometimes situations don't always change because of gratitude. But in that moment, I decide to change my moment, to change my perception, for this one second, this one minute, this one moment, for this one hour. And so let's take some time and think about what we are grateful for. So I want to ask you, in this moment, what are you grateful for?

Speaker 1:
