Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Lion Within Us, a podcast serving Christian men who are hungry to be the leaders God intends you to be. I'm your host, chris Granger. Let's jump in. All right, guys, it's fun Friday time. I'm excited to have you here, so let's get right into it. You know we're going to start right in God's word, okay? So Matthew 7, verse 23,. Then I will tell them plainly I never knew you Away from me, you evildoers. So, guys, go back, listen to that spiritual kickoff.

Speaker 1:

This week's been a heavy week. I've been talking about a topic Will all people get to heaven? And, quite frankly, no. They answer. The answer is no, they're not. It's not because I said so, it's because God's word tells us, and we spent a lot of time on Wednesday episode unpacking the gates. We have narrow ways, we have wide gates. We have the narrow roads, wide roads, and we know which one leads to life, the one that you'd be hard pressed against, the narrow Right. Then we talked about the fruit right, the good fruit, the bad fruit, the good tree, the bad tree, all different things in our life that is a result of when we truly surrender to the Holy Spirit. Now we talked about those words that I pray, none of us ever hear I never knew you. And how we should avoid that. And how, by taking steps of obedience in our life, we don't have to worry about hearing those words. We get to hear the words well done, good and faithful servant, and how that should move us to action as Christian leaders, as men, to do what he's called us to do. So I'd love to get your feedback on Wednesday's episode. It's been a good topic. I think it's an important topic to share, not always a fun topic to share, but it's not about just being fun and making goody two-shoes to cupcakes and rainbows. No, we have to do the hard things here at the Lion Within Us. This is part of it. I want to share the truth with you all and give you ways to share the truth with others in a way that loves them, that encourages them, but ultimately the way that leads them to the path to salvation. That's what it's about. All right, so that's what it's about this week.

Speaker 1:

Fellas, let's get into our tips. We've got our health wealth self-tip Again for new listeners out there. Your health tip is mind and body how we have stronger minds, stronger bodies to do what he's called us to do. Wealth is career and finances. Ultimately. How can we be better stewards? Okay, and then self-tip how can we be stronger fathers, husbands, because that's what we've been called to do. There's a great gap right now that exists. Strong men in the home. We'll go try to give you a tip every week, just help you be a little bit closer to being that leader that you've been called to be, okay, so let's get into it. Our health tip Now. New Year's resolutions a lot of those have passed by now, okay, so that's fun, that's cool.

Speaker 1:

Now's a great time to get serious, and I want you to think about a workout accountability partner, because time to get serious. And I want you to think about a workout accountability partner Because most guys do better with a push. They just do. You get somebody standing there, you get a little bit of motivation and you get that little bit of accountability that we're so desperately in need of many times, because this can change the game for you. Fellas, I'm telling you it's a great way that you can amp up things Anytime.

Speaker 1:

Me and my brother Gray say, we get together and I work out with him, I always do better. I just push myself harder. I just do just by his presence being there, not to mention he's stronger and younger and better shape. So it just pushes me, but it just pushes me naturally, but it's just a great way for me to have that push. So you way for me to have that push, you should look for that.

Speaker 1:

If you're working out by yourself, I get it. It can be hard. Look, I can't do every workout with him. It doesn't work out that way. Schedules are too busy, but have maybe one a week where you could get together with that partner and get after it, and you never know, that could be an opportunity as well to grow spiritually as well. Maybe after your workout, you guys do a little Bible study or something like that. I'm telling you you want to get better results from your body and from your workouts.

Speaker 1:

Stop doing it alone. Get an accountability partner. Oh yeah, this is a given. But just to clarify, your accountability partner cannot be of the opposite sex. Okay, let's be smart about this, guys. All right, accountability partner if you're a dude needs to be another dude, okay. So if you're a lady listening to this, your accountability partner needs to be another dude. So if you're a lady listening to this, your accountability partner needs to be another lady. Let's just clear the air there. Let's not give the evil one any toehold to throw off our testimony inside a weight room. All right now, wealth tip Going very practical here, very practical Again.

Speaker 1:

Going back to the fundamentals, I want you to just understand what an IRA is. If you hear that term, ira, that means individual retirement account and that is a personal retirement savings account type that you can open independently. You don't have to be working directly for an employer to open an IRA. Anybody can do that and there are lots of different types. You have traditional IRAs, which is tax-deferred growth. You have Roth IRAs, where you can make your contributions now with after-tax dollars, but your withdrawals when you start pulling that money out, that's tax-free. So there's lots of ways to look at IRAs. Don't miss this stuff. Don't just think well, I just got my 401k going, that's great that you got that 401k going. There may be an opportunity that you could have right now with an IRA. For instance, there are certain Roth IRAs where you contribute certain dollar amounts every year and you can do that, and again, when you do that with tax-free dollars, all that growth that's earned while you're waiting to access it, you get to access that tax-free. Or you can do traditional IRAs now, where you put in the pre-tax dollars and you see that it's tax savings right now. So there's both ways to play the game right here.

Speaker 1:

The big thing I want you to think about from a stewardship standpoint and it's good stewardship to be thinking about the future and longevity An individual or retirement account is a great maybe. Not just have one, have multiple in place to store, to save, to grow, so you'll be ready to do what he's called you to do in the future. You won't have to worry about the burden of finances. Okay, so now the self-tip. Let's get right into that Very simple Read to your child. Yes, you heard me Read to your child. Yes, you heard me Read to your child or your grandchild. How about that? Because in the modern world that we have, it's dominated by television, internet, youtube.

Speaker 1:

It's important for fathers and grandfathers to make the effort. Make the effort to read to their children Because you want them to be lifelong readers. You do. You've got to start knowing they're young and they get older. Encourage them to read on their own. Instill that reading of love into them. That's a great way, as a parent, to ensure that your child or your grandchild, will have that literacy skill right and they'll be growing professionally and personally and and and their career will be will be better if they're natural readers.

Speaker 1:

My oldest they love to read. We just do my. My oldest, in particular that girl I know if I can refine her her heads in a book somewhere loves to read, right, I can't go back. I did. Your baby can read with her as a as a baby and just work through a bunch of things and I just she sees her dad. I'm sitting around here right now looking at stacks and stacks of books. I love to read too. I didn't always love to read, but I do now. It's grown on me. It's something. My mom's a big reader. She just asks she's always got her head in a book and it's just something.

Speaker 1:

Fellas, I'm telling you, when you take the time to read with your children, it's just a great opportunity to connect, first and foremost, but also just to grow together. So read to your child. There are three tips health, wealth, self. So that health tip okay, get that. Workout. Accountability partner If you're thinking about who that guy is, go ahead and send them a text today, okay. The wealth tip individual retirement accounts are great. Don't just go along with the flow. Take some time to learn about your IRA and which IRA will work best for you, particularly traditional versus Roth. Okay, and your self-tip reads you child. Take the time to read to them, right? There's not a better use of time than that.

Speaker 1:

And I'm going to give you for a book of the week. This week I'm going to give you a book to read to them. It's called the Pilgrim's Progress. I'm sure you know John Bunyan's classic tale. This version right here is illustrated. My buddy Grayson I've already mentioned once on this episode gave me this tip. This is what he does with his sons all the time. We picked this version up ourselves to start reading to our kids. If you're looking forward good one to read with your kids, that could be right there. So go check out thelionwithinus book and then you'll see all the books of the week Every week, the ones that we mentioned here on the show. Guys, we have that page set up for you so that you can go directly to it. You can see all the different books, but if you're looking for one with your kids or for your grandkids, this could be a great one. The illustrations are awesome. I'm looking forward to actually sitting down and doing this with Judah and Lily, our younger ones in particular. We're going to take the time to even do it with the older ones as well, because there's just a lot of great life lessons in here from this tale that we want to share with them.

Speaker 1:

Now for our dad jokes of the week. We've got two dad jokes. So dad joke number one man keeps throwing yogurt at my house. How dare he? So there you go, that's number one. A man keeps throwing yogurt at my house. How dare he? Number two don't fart in an Apple store. They don't have windows. So, guys, let me know Number one. Number two I know which one of my oldest daughters can be choosing. Number one a man keeps throwing yogurt at my house. How dare he? Number two don't fart in an Apple store. They don't have windows. Now I know Becca will not be happy for me about using the number two dad joke today, but that's okay. I sometimes just have to take the beatings. It's worth it. I'm just kidding on the beatings meetings, but it is funny when I get an eye roll from her. So anyway, fellas, hope you enjoy those.

Speaker 1:

The question of the week that we've been talking about all week. This week is won't all people ultimately go to heaven? Now, if you don't know how to answer that yet, go back, listen to the Wednesday episode again. Go back, listen to the spiritual kickoff episode again, because I'm telling you the worldview of everybody gets in is wrong. It's just wrong, and I want to save you from that. I wanted to speak truth to you, the hard truth sometimes, but speak the truth to you nonetheless, because you need to know, and, as a believer, as a Christian man, as a leader who's doing all the guys called you to do, you can't miss this one. Don't miss the fundamentals, guys. Don't miss that. Okay, so hopefully you enjoyed this. Share this out with others. That'd be incredible if you did that. Give us a rating and review.

For me personally, I thought it was a lost cause and I decided to take the action, knowing that I wasn't alone. For instance, we've built ways for guys to lean in and grow through fun events like our daily spiritual kickoff, where you get that much needed boost directly from God's word, our Bible studies that always focus on how to discern and apply what we learn, and even our amazing forum where you can speak your mind without fear of getting shut down or judged by the extreme rules of modern day social media. On top of all that, we know that many men want to help overcoming issues and becoming stronger in many different areas. That's why we created several mastermind groups where the iron truly sharpens the iron.

Speaker 1:

Our community is about having a growth mindset, accountability, intentionality and transparency. In other words, just leave fake you at home and come to community just as you are.
