Ep. 14 | Using Scripture to Prepare for Christ with Dr. Jon Skalski
We are joined this week by Dr. Jon Skalski to discuss his conversion story and the role of scripture in understanding the last days and preparing for the Savior. Meghan and Jon talk about the importance and patterns of the Bible, The Book of Mormon, and Doctrine and Covenants in communicating the wins and losses of peoples preparing to meet Christ in the past, and using these examples to prepare to more successfully meet Him in the future. The conversation includes new insights on the parable of the ten virgins, food storage as an act of faith and spiritual preparation, the psychology of modern-day tribalism and the echoes of the ancient Nephite civilization we see therein, and how we can "treasure up the word of God" as our primary tool to understanding these challenging times, and becoming ready to see Christ perhaps in our lifetimes.
Dr. Jon Skalski is a professor of psychology at BYU - Idaho, with background in developmental psychology, counseling, and the theory and philosophy of psychology. His research draws from overlapping areas in the disciplines of psychology, moral development, philosophy, religion, and education. Evidence of his excellent skills as a teacher is seen in his 4.8 score on Rate my Professor.
Jon was a convert to the church at age 21 from the Catholic faith. He and his wife have 4 children. Jon enjoys playing basketball, coaching his sons, and dancing with his daughter.
