The Museum provides information about the purposes of the Bank, the currency it issues and its social and architectural history. Illustrated by its collections, the lecture will cover the early foundation of the Bank, and the history of its building and its rebuilding. It will also take a look at the money in our pockets - and how constant efforts to outwit counterfeiters has shaped our banknotes today.

The transcript and downloadable versions of the lecture are available from the Gresham College website: http://www.gresham.ac.uk/lectures-and-events/the-museum-and-historical-collections-of-the-bank-of-england

Gresham College has been giving free public lectures since 1597. This tradition continues today with all of our five or so public lectures a week being made available for free download from our website. There are currently over 1,500 lectures free to access or download from the website.
