Picture this: You're waist-deep in the Cowichan River, heart racing as the line goes taut—another steelhead fishing tale unfolds. But it's the journey, not the catch, that we're celebrating in this week's recount of our relentless pursuit. Progress is the name of the game; with improved two-hand casting and refined techniques, the season has been a study in persistence and learning. As I regale you with adventures of sparse fly tying, sink tip explorations, and the thrill of swinging through new waters, you'll feel the pull of the river's current and the excitement for the spring season's potential.

Landing back on familiar banks, the joy of guiding and sharing the love for the sport resonates more than ever. It's about more than just the fish—it's the connection with the water and the people who are drawn to its flow. I'm keen to hear from you, our fellow anglers in the Dead Drifter Society, to share your insights and desires for future casts. So send a line my way, and let's keep the conversation as vibrant and flowing as the rivers we cherish. Tune in for a weekly dose of fishing stories, techniques, and the camaraderie that comes from a shared passion for the sport.

Speaker 1:

Welcome back. Unfortunately this week's episode the audio file was not good enough, so we are re-recording. This week Been very busy with steelhead and the rest of my life. I'm trying to spend as much time with my family. We'll still fish in as much as possible to try to make the dream come true. Unfortunately, it did not happen this season.

Speaker 1:

High water on the river and I'm sure I could have went to other systems, but I've been pretty obsessed with the Cowjian River and just wanting to get one there. So that's what I worked on all year or all season. It was good, though my casting is getting there. Two-hand casting can be tricky at times, especially when you're fishing, so it's not the most ideal place to learn how to cast or to continue practicing, but I like to practice on the go and sometimes a fish happens. So that's kind of what I was doing this year. I definitely have gotten some technique stuff down that I'm happy about in terms of just tying sparse flies to get down quick, playing around with sink tips, figuring out the kind of speeds I like to swing at, and also swinging new water. Definitely got some grabs, so we know we're doing something. They just didn't link up, so sad face there, but I'm going to just stay focused on the season coming up, which is spring, and that brings lots of lively fish. So, yeah, I'm super excited for streamer season and dryfly season and obviously we'll be getting plenty of nymphing done. So, yeah, I'm super happy to be back on the water guiding as well. That's very positive. That's my happy place. I feel at home when I'm on the river and I love sharing that with people. So that really just works out.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, if you don't mind, if you got time and there's things you really like about the podcast or maybe some things that I don't do often that you'd like to see more of. Pretty much any feedback would be really appreciated. Maybe I'm just in my head these days a little bit, but I'm like kind of wanting to make sure that we're all on the same page. I like doing the content. I don't mind kind of steering it a little bit more in a certain way if it's what people kind of want. But I also just want to hear from you. So, yeah, if you got the time, send me a message, let me know things you want to hear, let me know topics, you know. If you want a few more questions or a couple consistent questions, anything like that. Feel free to shoot me a message about and, or, if you just want to say, hi, that works for me. So, yeah, really appreciate everyone's support and it's cool to see Dead Drifter Society still going, so we'll keep it going and I'll see you next week.
