Episode 13: The Hedonic Treadmill--Our Happiness Setpoint

Jeff Armstrong Season 1 Episode 13

One-on-one with Dr. Jeff Armstrong as he shares his thoughts on happiness and the Hedonic Treadmill. The hedonic treadmill is not new type exercise equipment.  Essentially, it is our happiness setpoint.  It is the theory that our happiness is relatively stable—that life changes (positive or negative) have only short-term effects on one’s happiness.  In short, our pursuit of happiness is like walking or running on a treadmill. Learning to walk on the hedonic treadmill is a key to aging well.
