When my phone met its sandy demise on the shores of Destin, Florida, it became a catalyst for a revelation about adaptability. This episode of That Girl Radio, which marks a joyous milestone of 100,000 downloads, is all about celebrating the pivot – how the unexpected twists can lead to saving grace, both in personal mishaps and our broader life journey. Join me as I recount the significance of flexibility after my beachfront blunder, and how my encounters with remarkable women on this brand trip reinforced my passion for content creation. It's a story of how patience, rather than haste, can sometimes shield us from stress and unnecessary costs, guiding you to apply this principle to various facets of your life.

Shifting our perspective from what we lose to what we gain is a powerful form of alchemy that can bring peace and trust into our lives. As we explore this concept, I share a personal struggle with anxiety, and the strength I found in letting go of control. This talk is a heart-to-heart on how we can support ourselves with kindness and assurance, much like we would do for a dear friend. By the close of our session, you'll feel empowered to embrace your community, faith, and inner resilience as pillars of strength. And remember, our setbacks are often cleverly disguised setups for something bigger and better.

Speaker 1:

Hey guys and welcome back to that Girl Radio. It is your lovely host here, rikki Lee, also known as that Girl, and you are now tuned in to your weekly supplement to help you live and design your best life, and I'm so excited. You can probably hear birds chirping and water rustling in the background, and that is because I am in Destin, florida, on my very first brand trip and I am just so in awe of what God is doing. And I want to first and foremost say thank you so much, everyone on the podcast for listening. We have now reached over 100,000 downloads. Just in January, I was celebrating 60,000 downloads, and to know that we have created such a huge community here, with listeners from over 150 countries and just all over the world, really makes me happy.

Speaker 1:

And for today's podcast episode, I want to dive into how the pivot is pivotal. I have been on this trip and there's been so many amazing things that have happened. I've met so many amazing women that have reminded me of just how much I love content creating, and it's so easy when you're in an environment where no one is doing the things that you're doing. It can make you feel like what you're doing isn't enough or what you're doing isn't possible, and this is a testament and a reminder that what I am doing is possible, that it can be lucrative and it can be secure, and that has been really life-changing for me. But I will say one of the biggest lessons that I learned on this trip is that the pivot is pivotal, because if you're not willing to pivot, it's going to cost you a lot. And I'll give you a little context.

Speaker 1:

Yesterday we went on a trip to the beach, the James Beach to be specific, here in Destin, florida, and it is gorgeous. When I tell you, the water is so freaking blue. It is so blue and I was on the beach enjoying myself, literally just fueling my inner child, going out into the water and just being free. And you guys know I'm 4'11", so I didn't travel too deep into the water. I was still in pretty shallow waters, it was only up to my waistline and there was quite the big wave. I had my phone in my hands and it splashed onto my phone. I previously had a cracked screen, so I'm assuming that because of the cracked screen, that's what messed up my display. But after leaving the beach about an hour later, I was still using my phone. Just fine.

Speaker 1:

I plugged it into my charger and then, in the middle of me posting my content from the day prior, my entire phone just died Like the screen was green, it wouldn't turn back on, and it was just so weird and I'm like what the heck is going on. But turns out the screen was broken and there was more activities to be done for the day, but I needed to figure out what was going on with my phone, or at least I thought I did. So I took the liberty of not going to lunch with the girls. I stayed behind and I just worked on my phone. And this was because I had made up in my mind I had like the perfect schedule for the day and I really wanted to just make sure that I was getting the content that I set out to get while I was here.

Speaker 1:

And having a broken phone was just not ideal and I love to maintain the utmost professionalism and for a brand to bring me out for a trip and my phone not be working is like the worst circumstance ever, and so I was like, okay, I don't want them to feel like I'm here, I have a broken phone, I'm not able to create content for them, so like I need to go get this fixed. So I'm looking, I'm searching for a way to get it fixed and I find this YouBreakIFixIt place. They have Asurion insurance for the phones but they don't have AppleCare. Keep that in mind. So I immediately give the address to the owner of the company, who was still at the house, and she got me a lift. I went to the place and while I'm in the car, my mom's like oh, they don't do AppleCare there, so you may have to pay out of pocket. I'm like well, I'm already in the Lyft, don't have a phone to call another Lyft. Mind you, I'm on the phone with my mom on my iPad and luckily I have cellular data on my iPad, so I was still able to communicate with everybody. So everybody. So I get to the place.

Speaker 1:

The man tells me it's going to be $460 for me to replace my phone screen and that it is simply just a screen issue. It is not anything with the battery. There's no water damage or anything like that. It's literally just this the display is messed up, and the only reason why I was so hellbound on getting my screen fixed was because I wanted to get my content and my phone wasn't backed up for, like the past month. So all the content I've created in the past month would have been gone, and that was not ideal. So I wanted to make sure that, whatever I went, there was going to be a way for me to recover all of the content I had gotten that morning. And so he's like it's going to cost you $460. And I'm like mm-mm, well, these people have got me a lift here. I don't want to lift back and my phone is still broken because that was a waste of their money. And so I'm like okay, we have to get things, we have to just go through with it.

Speaker 1:

But back to my original point. The pivot is pivotal because had I just waited until I got back home to get my screen fix? I'm going back home today, today's Sunday, and had I waited to get my phone fixed once I got home, I wouldn't have to worry about this. It would have been completely free with my insurance and because it was only a screen issue, I still would have been able to recover all the content I had gotten in the morning. And the crazy thing is, when I got back to the house I didn't capture any more content on my phone. At least. They went down to the beach. They did the sunrise or not the sunrise, they did the sunset content. But it was super windy and extremely cold and I am a super cold girl, like I will be shaking.

Speaker 1:

So I just decided to stay at the house and so I had so much plans and like things set up in my mind that I wanted to happen in the evening that I wasn't willing to just pivot and just say, okay, the phone is broken, like you can get it fixed when you get back home tomorrow afternoon. I would just refuse to look at any alternative. And I feel like so many of us are in spaces like that where we refuse to look at any alternatives because it's not the best case scenario, it's not the thing that's going to give us the instant gratification or the thing that is going to get us what we want right now. But sometimes what you want right now is what you need. Like I didn't need that. I didn't need my phone fixed right then and there I wasn't planning on posting that content today.

Speaker 1:

That day, on Saturday Anyway, I was going to be posting the next day, so I could have really just waited, but I just couldn't get my mind out of. You have to get sunset pictures, you have to do this, you have to do that, you have to be able to go to the cafe and like get content, and so I put so much pressure on myself and forgot that it's okay. It's okay to pivot. I could have enjoyed myself and just gone out to lunch, come back and gone to the still wouldn't have gone to the sunset because it was really cold, but I at least could have enjoyed more time with the girls and just relax instead of being in a state of anxiety and fear of the unknown of what's going on with my phone.

Speaker 1:

So, yeah, I just want whoever is going through something right now where you're faced with a really tough situation and you don't know what to do and you just feel like the only way out is the way that you know, trust and believe there are other alternatives, and you really should go to your advisory board and like talk to people who can give you alternatives, and I know sometimes alternatives aren't what you want to hear. I didn't want to hear that I could get my phone fixed on Monday. I'm like I want my phone fixed now, but I would have been in a much better financial circumstance had I just waited. It cost me so much because I was not willing to change my plans. And that goes back to us in life, how it costs us so much because we're not willing to change the way that we do things. We think the way that we do things is the best way.

Speaker 1:

But the way that God does things is the best way, and sometimes you just have to listen to him and listen to the signs that he's giving you that it's time to pivot, it's time to do something else. And if you don't trust that, then you're not exercising faith, you're exercising fear. And why live in fear? God has my back. Like there's no reason for me to be afraid about losing any content or losing my phone or anything like that. Like I am covered, I'm covered. There was no reason for me to be so anxious yesterday. I should have just relaxed and just put my feet up and enjoyed the weather, and I tried to do that multiple times.

Speaker 1:

But I was just still in the back of my head like very upset about the situation. And you know, life happens, guys. Like things are going to continuously happen to you. And it's not happening to you, it's happening for you. And I feel like in that moment, god just wanted me to just sit back and relax, because I was taking the trip so seriously. I'm like I have constant obligations, Like I need to do this, I need to do that. And he took away my phone because he was like just relax, just like look around you, smell everything around you, like feel everything around you, just take in the sun, allow it to like seep into your skin, like I just want you to experience what you're in right now. And I was refusing to do that. I just wanted to show up and show out and I was enjoying myself. I can't be wrong, but you know, it's very important to be present, and I couldn't be present because I was so worried.

Speaker 1:

So today's episode is really quick because I am traveling, but I just wanted to put this message out there that the pivot is going to be pivotal and it will cost you if you're not willing to. So you know what kind of price are you willing to pay? Because the quick route, the route that you have written down, the plan that you put in your planner, sometimes isn't the plan that is meant to happen. And so are you willing to be flexible in order to foresee what you want? Are you willing to delay the gratification that you want in order to get what you need? And be willing to ask yourself the questions like is this dire? And not think worst case scenario, but best case scenario. Best case scenario if I do this and I wait just two more days, what's gonna happen? I'm gonna save money, I'm gonna have time to really just be present and not be so stuck on my phone, and I'm going to feel less pressure to show up and I can just vlog on my vlogging cameras and just keep it casual and for you and your circumstance.

Speaker 1:

Think of just three reasons why the pivot would be the best case scenario and that can help you ease into relaxing yourself and just saying, okay, I'm going to let go and I'm going to let go. I'm just going to let go because there's three reasons why I should smile. There's three reasons why I should be happy. There's three reasons why I should be content or grateful for this pivot and take on the perspective of like what is this doing for me, rather than what it's taking from me. And I think yesterday I was definitely in a space of like what is this taking from me? And I just kept sitting in that rather than thinking of, like, what is this doing for me? So when you're in the middle of something and it feels like everything is just happening to you and it's so unfortunate, ask yourself, like, is this forcing me to pivot? And, if so, how can I pivot in a way that is going to make me feel comfortable and that's going to give me reassurance that he's still faithful and I'm going to be okay, because y'all, I'm fine. I would have been fine without my phone as well, but it's just 2024 and you think that if you don't have your phone, you're just through.

Speaker 1:

And we think that way about a lot of things. We think that if the hair appointment doesn't go through, the whole event is just a wash. If we don't get that specific grade on that assignment, that the whole semester is a wash. Like we think of very small incidents as these huge, monumental moments when, in the big picture, it will not matter, and so you have to be willing to just woosah and say, okay, I trust you, god, and I know that whatever is happening to me is happening for me and I will be okay and I am willing to let go of the reins and I'll be a passenger and wherever you take me, I'm okay with you.

Speaker 1:

And as much as I talk about how faithful God is in my life and how you know how much I trust him, yesterday I didn't trust him. Yesterday I was really, really nervous and I'm like, what am I supposed to do? But you just have to believe. Every single time something's happened to you before he's shown up for you, so why wouldn't he show up for you right now? You know and just remember that always, always, he's got your back. I've got your back, your community's got your back, that girl, radio girl's got your back. Like we are here for you.

Speaker 1:

And I know the pivot in the middle of it, in the middle of the storm. It's like, what am I gonna do? But you have to just take a step back and like, kind of have an outer body experience and look at what's going on from a third perspective and like, okay, she's going through this. What would you do for? Like, what? Like, what would you? What words of encouragement would you give her? And then give them to yourself, because yesterday there was a period in time where I was in that store by myself and I just wanted to cry because I did not want to work up $500 to fix my phone, but I just gave myself words of encouragement Like this is money, it will come back to you, but just be willing to be flexible next time, because it costs you because you weren't willing to pivot. It costs you because you weren't willing to relax. It costs you because you weren't willing to just trust that he would take care of it and pay it in full If you would have waited two days, but instead, because you were stuck on your timelines, you had to pay the biggest price.

Speaker 1:
