Nick: music? I ain't like, but. We'll see what 2024 brings us. But movies. Yeah. Movies. Oh, you want to start it off, Nick? 2023 was filled with fantastic movies. And I will start it off. We're going to talk about favorite fucking movies of 2023.

I'm running with Godzilla Minus One. 

Persia: I still haven't seen it. Wait, that was, 

Leer: that was last year. Yeah, 

Nick: it came out in December. Um, they've been prolonging it in the American box office because it's been doing so well. Oh, that's dope. Um, so, which is awesome because it was only a budget of 70 million dollars and boy oh boy, Marvel could learn a thing or two.

Damn. 

Leer: Okay. Why? All right. 

Nick: We ain't gonna wait. We don't know what we're gonna say. No, because like, yo, Yeah. And a [00:06:00] 70 million budget. You got a 200 million budget movie. It'd be 

Leer: a hundred bad movies out there, but somehow the MCU comes in. 

Nick: Yeah, because they're in the forefront. 

Leer: Of what? They asked. Of the movie.

I mean, I'm sorry. Wait a minute. All

Nick: No, for real though. For real though. 70 million and what they did with that movie was 

Leer: fantastic. Oh yeah. Yeah. And like a lot of, a lot of that, uh, a lot of word of mouth with that movie too. Because like. It was all Twitter, 

Nick: basically, basically, yeah, basically all 

Leer: basically, which is kind of like good.

We'll just like real good for a movie. Yeah. Cause like, I did not see like any like trailers or marketing for it or anything. All I heard was, you know, somebody telling me, yo, go see 

Nick: Godzilla. Yeah. And they, for the, I don't know anymore. Cause iron claw and poor things came out. But like when that movie came out, it was the highest rated movie on IMDb from 2023.

Okay. So Godzilla was, yeah. And that's beating up Oppenheimer and Barbie and Spider Man. And Spider Man too. Yeah. And team entity and guardians and guardians. [00:07:00] Wow. Yeah. We had a good year for movies, 

Persia: bro. Yeah. I, I don't think I saw a movie that I didn't like. I didn't see that, but I didn't see a lot of movies.

So see a lot 

Leer: of movies. I think that's our fault.

Um, and, and it's really, by the time that I get to the end of the year The year felt, feels very long, so like, I can't, I end up mixing it up, so I don't even remember what That's why I had to just look it up, I just had to look up what was in my list.

Yeah, I, I know, I loved Barbie. Barbie was fire. Uh, I, I fucking loved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Bro, that was, yeah. That movie was good as fuck. That was good as fuck. Um, and Was Spider-Man, last year. Yeah, it was. Yeah, it was last year. Spider-Man was fucking crazy too. Mm-Hmm. . But that fucking, like, I was not ex, we didn't know there was gonna be a two part thing.

Yeah, I know. So I was like, I did not at all by the time after I did 

Nick: actually, first of all, you all should know because when they first announced the movie, they said part one and then they part two. Nobody ever 

Persia: saw that.

So as it started, like, we're getting on like the two hour mark, I was like, alright, any of these could be endings and any of these would be crazy endings right now, but when is it gonna wrap up?

Persia: is it gonna wrap up? Cause you still had a lot of shit to do. And then, yeah, that's Because I didn't, I didn't know because like, I didn't know that that was how it was going to end. So I was like, yeah, what is going on? And I'm like, I'm like, how are they going to wrap this up from this point?

And then, and then it was just ended. And I was like, Oh, okay. That's fucking cool. And

Persia: Sweet from, from what I can remember right now, I would say Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Nice. For their attack on Titan Reference.

They had a lot of those. They, they, they did a lot of references, a lot of attack on Titan. 

Matt: They did a lot of anime. We got the

Persia: did you see Oppenheimer. No. And I wanted to, right. Yeah. That shit Heimer was delicious. Oppenheimer, I can't wait to see that because Mm-Hmm.

I was right. Like there is, there is a lot of quotes from that that I've seen that I 

Nick: was like, bro, me, Ander did the double feature for

Nick: Turtles was great. I fucking, I'm so glad I got that. That movie was fucking fantastic. It was 

Leer: better than I expected. It, cause like, I was just so like, I wouldn't say tarnished with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, but like, it gave me a bad taste 

Nick: in my bones.

The Michael 

Matt: Bay ones? Yeah. That's how I felt like with like Godzilla, like with how the other Godzillas were going, I was like, I don't really care for the new Godzillas now. Then I heard about how it was and I was like, all right. How it's going 

Nick: now. Minus one is great. The Legacy Universe is okay. It's okay.

The [00:11:00] older ones are great though. Godzilla. But the Michael Bay Ninja Turtle movies were Go ahead. So Alright. You know what? Hold on. I'm going to defend them for two seconds because I like what they did with the Ninja Turtles in that movie. Bro, they made

They all look, they're like. Raphael's big as fuck because he works out and Donatello's like really scrawny because clearly he doesn't work out Like that was I like that aspect of those character designs. Yes. Okay, and like they have their own personality look wise in general I like [00:12:00] that. Strider looked cool.

Leer: and that's it. I mean some of the fight scenes were kind of like edited bad. Like, cause, I thought we were talking nice things. Oh.

I really did. Yeah. But I really like Guardians. Like I saw, I think we, I think we saw Guardian Guardian about three times. I think we saw, yeah. Like I think we saw that shit like three times. Yeah. Yeah. And the first

They kind of had it like, Marvel is really good. Not Marvel. MCU is really good at making fucking trailers and thinking they're thinking this shit is going to like, oh yeah.

Persia: Uh, like you feel like this is, but it doesn't happen. This is what's 

Matt: going to happen. Exactly. Yeah. I think he did that good in the movie. Like, I feel like he, he foreshadowed. Every character's death like if he was like, oh this oh like spoiler Sorry, but he foreshadowed so much that I was like, you know, I think any of these are gonna happen and then 

Nick: I mean he did and like the the things that like when guardians first like was announced And everyone's like, yo, in the first one, the logo was this color and Oh, yeah.

Fucking, uh, what's his face died. And the second one, the logo was this color and then Yondu died. Oh, yeah. And they're like, the third one, the [00:14:00] logo is this color. Yeah, you're right, actually. The colors are 

Persia: that. We definitely thought someone was dying. Oh, 

Nick: yeah. You gotta blame the fans because that's why Dr.

Sh You know, Dirty Sprite 2 didn't do good. Wait, do good in what sense? Uh, expectations. Yeah, I was about to say reviews. Because everyone ruined it for themselves. I'm

Matt: point of what we're doing. I love that movie.

I feel 

Nick: like I'm in a popular opinion. So, you got Guardians 3 as 

Leer: your Guardians 3 or Spider Man. Yeah, cause 

Nick: I really like, Both delicious 

Leer: as fuck. The thing about Spider Man was just, The thing about Spi Oh, I thought you were talking to me. The thing about Spider Man is the, the, The way that the music played into, The way the music played into like, Just like the scenes and everything.

Yeah. Yeah, and the emotional toll on everything. And also like, bro, If I'm seeing a thousand Spider Mans, I'm there. Regardless, I don't 

Nick: care. So, real quick, Go ahead. You know, nevermind. No, no, no, no, because it has to do with 2024. Okay. So no. But when we get on [00:15:00] 24, we'll talk about that. Okay. But yeah. Alright.

Matt: I'd say out of all the movies Barbie was the one that like blew my expectations Because when I saw the trailers for barbie and like what it was about I thought it was just going to be you know Kind of a gimmicky movie about like just selling barbie pretty much It's like oh we got these characters that kind of look like these characters and just some funny goofy movie, right?

But then it ended up being like one of the best experiences I ever had with the comedy the messages the emotions and then Ryan fucking Gosling as Ken, I, I mean it just, it's just out saying it, I don't think there could have been a single other person that like, did it better. Yeah. That man, 

Nick: like, And they had other Kens in the movie.

Yeah, and all the 

Matt: other Kens were amazing too. They were great, but there were no Ryan. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he stole the f But, I did the Barbenheimer, and after I saw Barbenheimer, I was like, Yeah, overall, Barbenheimer's probably the best movie I've seen. But at the end of the day, it's gotta be beyond that.

Beyond the Spider Verse. Or, I mean, [00:16:00] across the Spider Verse. Because I'm, I love Spider Man. Everything about it was perfect. Art, the music, like Gwen's world in general was one of my favorite art of paint ever. Just all the emotions, like it was so artistic, like when he hugged, uh, when she hugged her dad, it like got pink.

And then when he found out that she was spider woman. Every shot that it went to him, it was a different color background, it was different, like, shading on his face, it showed, like, police lights, and then it showed, like, other stuff. And then, like, later when he, she came out to him, or no, when he came out saying, like, oh, I quit my job and she had that speech.

Came out?

When he, when she said that and, like, he accepted her, the background, like, Got like so beautiful and that's just like Gwen's world not even talking about like everything else the attention to detail It was just too perfect and I love like how julia was saying. I love spider man. I don't care what you give me spider man I'm gonna watch it and Absolutely loved it.

Persia: was a good year for a lot of stuff. I wish I could remember more of it. 

Nick: I don't remember shit. It's crazy. Cause some of these movies I forgot came out in 20. Yeah. You're like guard. Yeah, I forgot. I forgot about Spider 

Persia: Man and 

Nick: guardians was good.

And I still, it was amazing. They're all really good. It's just, there's that many good fucking movies and we still got to watch fucking poor things, iron claw. And then the, uh, new, uh, Studio, the new studio Ghibli movie . Oh shit about that too. Still gotta watch that. It's like, and that's um, what's his face's?

Uh, first time doing audio. Robert Patterson. Robert Patson. That is his first time doing voice act. Yeah. Mm-Hmm. . I heard. That's crazy. Some of it don't like voice memo. Yeah, he did on his phone, but they said he did the best. Oh yeah, of course. They said he did the fucking best. It doesn't even sound, I think he said it doesn't sound, I think they said it only took him two days.

Matt: paid. He's like an artist and actor that can like lock in and just, another level of like focus. At least from the things that I've seen. He's super [00:18:00] underrated. Yeah. I haven't watched um, Lighthouse, but I've seen like a lot of, like 

Nick: seen clips from it.

Favorite movie? One of my favorite. Yeah, he Williams. 

Leer: He was there with the bro. William Defoe. Willem

Persia: insane. I, um, he 

Leer: can literally, I seen it, it was just one movie where he would play, he would play like a thief and it literally was just him, the whole movie.

Persia: himself. What was that one movie? What was that one movie we watched where, uh, the, it was about the two brothers. And Willem Dafoe was like a gay detective. Bro, 

Nick: that shit was hilarious. 

Persia: He says a word that we cannot say on air. But, like, because he was, he was a gay detective but he's laying in bed with a guy.

And then they call him into the office. And the, like, you know, like in those fucking scenes where, like, The guy gets a call and then he's [00:19:00] laying in bed with his girl or whatever and then he has to go. So it's that. But then the guy touches him, he's like, get the fuck off me.

Nick: He's like, I ain't that gay. Well, maybe, uh, when 

Leer: our other cast member Antonio gets here, he can say it. 

Nick: No, 

Matt: no, no one 

Persia: can say it's not like 

Nick: the N word. You can't say it if you are one. All right. All right. So 

Persia: that's a thing. That was from a Bert Kreischer, whatever the fuck. Yeah, 

Leer: call everybody the N word, 

Nick: nerd.

Leer: All right, we're gonna, we're gonna move on this segment to, uh, which was the worst, which was the worst movie that you've seen in 2023. We're going to start with Matt this time. All right. 

Matt: Ant Man. Worst? Goddamn. I, I haven't [00:20:00] watched too, I, I'm the same boat as you were. I haven't watched too many movies. The only movies that I really watched was like hyped up ones.

But at the end of the day, I'm going to watch any Marvel movie. Ant Man. I was so disappointed. I was, I really was. There's not really much parts that I liked about it. Other than that. Facts. It was just so, there were so many moments, and this is why I don't like future diary too. . 

Leer: No. You gonna throw 

Persia: Yeah,

There was a mo, there were so many moments before anything happened. Before any like bad stuff happened where Hope, or was it? Is it hope? The mom or, okay. She could've just said, Hey guys, there's a being there. That's very scary. Let's not like, let's not mess with this. Easy done when they get 

Nick: there, tell'em about it.

The fact she was fighting it was, was really, 

Matt: I'll agree with that. Then they're wishing it, and then it felt like Star Wars. I was like, they're just ripping off Star Wars at this point with like some like ga, like empire literally, and then like. It just, yeah. I was just like, I'm not feeling it. And then it was a lot for the climax.

For the climax. I was like, okay, like Kang's, like beating [00:21:00] his ass. He's doing, he needs to kill him. And then you're telling me Scott Lang started actually punching Kang and actually hurt him. Hey, he could 

Persia: punch him and hurt him. He, he's not gonna win the fight. And he didn't like, come on, 

Nick: his girl saved him, hit the fuck 

Matt: up.

And then it's like he did. I'm, now, I'm somebody that I kinda like when things, uh. Have a effect from it or repercussions or there's a like negative from it. Like, oh man, we went through all this for this to happen. And we understand and it's sad. The fact that the way that it ended, I was like, wow, it really would have been better if there was more bad stuff that happened instead because they made it just happy.

And it was like, oh, now we're back. 

Leer: I'm gonna build on what you were saying because also like I did not like the fact that. First of all, in the movie, he was always like, you know, I did this, I saved the world. And they like, oh, you get it, you saved the world. Bro, if they would have made 

Matt: him die at the end, All right.

and then made like Casey

Like he literally treated him like an equal, like there was a moment where something happened with the portal gun, um, because Rick Prime was fucking with him or something, um, and he couldn't use his portal guns and he just turned to Evil Morty and was like, uh, what do you think? It's a blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and he was like, ah, nah, it couldn't be that.

I would get through it. And he's like, yeah, like they're talking like people instead of him talking down to him, like,

Yeah. He made this other thing, uh, called Fire Punch, which is just his version of Berserk pretty much.

Yeah. And It's the same thing where the character the entire time doesn't necessarily change, but it's the experiences that he's going through where he starts questioning this stuff. So Denji doesn't really have much depth, but he has like a consciousness where the whole point of Denji is when he's young, he has [01:06:00] nothing, no family, no relationships, no friendships.

He has no clue how to interact with humans. He has no clue how to interact with humans. So when he finally. Interacts with the first person and it's a girl. He's like what the fuck like he's just he's a horny motherfucker But he's not like like a abuser or like a harasser about it Like he's not like gonna push boundaries, but he doesn't know how to interact with humans.

Like he doesn't have that concept So it's like watching this ignorant degenerate go through a world and try to learn how to actually interact with people but then he Like what you'll see that happens at the end of part one, like you can see where his head's going. And that's why I'm like in part two right now, because not spoiling anything, but he's going through some like really like life changing, like almost therapy where he's like at a point where he's like, okay, what the fuck am I?

What is in my head? Why am I this way? Yeah. So it's like, he's more having fun with it and he's not trying to make depth. Like he's not trying to make a demon slayer attack on Titan. Like again, the way [01:07:00] that you'll see the part one ends, you're going to be like. Oh my fucking God. I mean, the thing is I like

So this is going to [01:13:00] be, this is going to be hard to say because. It had the best of what it was, and it's one of my favorite series, like, of all time. Oh. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2. Whoa! Wow! So Damn. Over Secret Invasion? Yeah. Well, I didn't watch it all. Okay. I watched, like, two episodes of Secret Invasion, and I was like, hmm.

Crash. Yeah, I was like, okay, I'm good on this. Feel you on that one. And, but for Jujutsu Kaisen, so, after I watched JJK Season 1, I was like, this is amazing. Fucking phenomenal. Then I read the next arc, which is the Shibuya arc, and I was like, this is one of the best. Sparks and all the anime I've ever watched.

I mean, Red, I was like, this is amazing. I can't wait. Great time. So MAPPA, I don't know if you guys are aware of, MAPPA, their studios are making like five animes at the moment. Yeah. And they are all on time crunches, they are all like scheduled, they all have a like a, JJK season 2 was my worst just because I'm such a huge fan, I was disappointed by MAPPA and their working conditions, making them have a time frame, schedule, just Pushing them, making 'em rush because it's very, very noticeable.

Matt: But, um, there was so much moments where you could tell it was rushed, it was not polished, there was, they did this ghosting effect that was really weird, where it was like, when it was punching, it was just, Blurry all the time.

So it didn't feel like real and then the worst was the dimming. I didn't And now it's crazy weird is I was when I was doing that I was thinking like trying to give him benefit the doubt but then they would use it in weird moments and I noticed Mapa has been Fucking doing that [01:15:00] since, actually no, that was WIT Studio.

WIT Studio did an attack on Titan when Levi was like, uh, Cutting up the Beast Titan. It got dimmed for some reason. I noticed that. Oh, I know

Matt: In JJK season 2. We'll have to Google it later. It happens a lot. Now the Blu ray version. We told you it was fighting?

So that's why Thousand year blood war arc. I liked better just because the production was consistent. It was perfect. You know time Yeah, your story was not nearly as good as a story as JJK season 2 in my opinion But the production JJK season 2 is like all over the fucking place now because now it's also the best for the best moments like the best fights in JJK season 2 It was the best, some of the best animation I've ever [01:16:00] seen.

Yuji versus Chozo, I could watch that fucking over and over again. Uh, no spoiler. Nevermind. I'm not going to go too much more into it, but there are some fights of some animation styles that I've never seen ever use. And I thought it was mind blowing, like really, really great, but it's like. It could have been that consistently if they gave people time and there were moments like big emotional moments that were completely ruined There was one moment.

It was one of the biggest most important things in like the whole

Matt: Nope, no. Nope. It was like some crazy huge thing happened and it was really emotional and the voice actor put his fucking heart and soul into like his acting And then, as he's doing it, in the middle of it, the theme song starts playing.

And the theme song is, You are my special BOOM NEW NEW NEW NEW Yeah! Literally, he was literally just going crazy. I know exactly what movie you're talking about. And he's just, he's just, ah, ah, You are my special BOOM NEW NEW NEW NEW And then they start an arpeggio of like, everybody, like, all the [01:17:00] fucked up shit that's going on.

And it's just, BOOM NEW NEW NEW NEW They 

Persia: were kinda, yeah, they were kinda on some bullshit 

Matt: bro. It's like, what the fuck is going on? It was the best and the worst. No music would have been like, it would have been an amazing moment. But yeah, so I was, I'd say like just my worst, really
