Speaker 1:

There's a lot of things that I've done wrong through the years. I played sports at a high level. I was a college athlete and I can remember thinking I was really healthy by filling up my plastic water bottle. I had a big one liter plastic like deer park water bottle that I would let sit in my bat bag and I would refill it from the water fountain with this tap water. You know, toxic tap water and then all the BPAs leaching into the water and I thought I was healthier than everybody else. So all my friends drinking coax, you know. And then as I've gotten older and I learned, you know, maybe that wasn't the best thing but our bodies are resilient too and you can make those changes and because of epigenetics you can change, you can turn off and on those genes. So you know, everybody has cancer cells in their body and we have the ability. That's so empowering to me that we have the ability to turn, to change our lifestyle and it turns off those bad genes.

Speaker 2:

You're listening to the I Am Healing Strong podcast, a part of the Healing Strong organization, the number one network of holistic cancer support groups in the world. Each week we bring you stories of hope, real stories that will encourage you as you navigate your way on your own journey to health. Now here's your host stage four cancer thriver, jim Mann.

Speaker 3:

We are at the very end of the conference. In fact, we're sitting inside of like an aquarium. It feels like Just a room with a glass and normally there are hundreds of people outside, but they're all across the street now getting ready for a worship service. But we've got one more podcast. We've tried like 14 times today and it just hasn't worked out and this is our last chance. So I can't wait to hear the story with Danielle Butler. Thank you so much for waiting.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, absolutely. Thank you for having me Are you mad at me? No, but I don't want you to over promise and then undiliver here. So we don't want to amp it up too much.

Speaker 3:

I was accidentally deleted, if it's, but yeah Well, thank you for waiting. In fact, we were at the same restaurant, so you knew where I was tied up.

Speaker 1:

I was talking to you. I saw when you finished your dinner so I could follow you back over here.

Speaker 3:

Yes, and I came in here and you're already sitting here in place so obedient. It's very good, and you go to one of my favorite churches.

Speaker 1:

I do pre-chaffel.

Speaker 3:

My wife would love to go there, but you know it's like a two hour drive, so we don't.

Speaker 1:

Come for some special events. Give me a head and I'll save you a seat this time. Okay, yeah, I'll have to wait until they overflow.

Speaker 3:

Good, that's a good thing. My wife will be excited, yeah. So, danielle, did you have a diagnosis or?

Speaker 1:

No, I actually first heard about Healing Strong from a friend. They invited me to the meeting when they first began the group. I'm from Gainesville, georgia, and so that's where the original group began, so they invited me to a meeting right when they first started. So like I'm kind of like an OG, like I'm an original here, my friend who invited me didn't even show up to the meeting. But I went and it was when Dr V, the breast cancer conqueror, was there speaking. It knocked my socks off and I think I attended every meeting from then on out. I was a brand new mom. I had one baby at the time, so I attended every meeting, and when Christine and Lynn decided to pass the torch as group leaders, I ended up taking over. So I was actually a group leader for a couple of years until I had so many children that it became too much and I had to 43 kids, right?

Speaker 3:

So what interests you about this? Since you yourself didn't have big diagnosis? Which congratulations for not having one.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, well, thank you. Well, my dad actually does, and so my dad and my mom came with me this weekend and we've been to several of the other conferences throughout the years. We love Susie and the entire mission and the organization, so obviously trying to help my dad is really special to me. But I was adopted, so prevention is so powerful and I forget who said it An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. So that's kind of my mission now is to help not only my family but other young mothers to prevent this. You know the direction we're going. By the year 2030, I believe, one out of every two which I think you might have said on the panel one out of every two is going to receive some type of cancer diagnosis, and I'm just not okay with those numbers and that decline of health in our country.

Speaker 1:

So whatever I can do to be proactive and to educate and support and empower other people, I want to do that.

Speaker 3:

Wow, that's impressive. Thank you. I wasn't interested in anything until I got my own cancer. I'm like, oh, now what do I do? So, yeah, and of course, once I Googled because that's the doctor you go to first and I found out I had not too long to live. My percentage of living was in a single digits and I thought, oh, I don't like this. So I looked for more positive stuff and I came across the Chris Wark stuff and I ordered dad. And then, of course, I found out about Hilly strong, just like everybody else.

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 3:

They go through the gatekeeper, chris Wark. So then I came to the convention 2018. You were probably there, right?

Speaker 1:

In Atlanta. Yeah, yeah, that's a great one, see.

Speaker 3:

Why don't you say anything?

Speaker 1:

I'm sure we are late, but you didn't pay back.

Speaker 3:

I was sitting way up there by myself because you know I came by myself and I'm like wait a minute, this is faith-based.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

What is this about?

Speaker 1:

I love that aspect of it too. That's just another layer for me, because that's foundational. That's where all healing comes from, anyhow, so I love that they include that, and that's a big part of why I'm a, why I'm such a supporter and advocate for Hitler strong.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I mean it is not faith-based. I mean you can still have the knowledge of you know eating vegetables and you know plant-based, having the God factor and you know the person who actually created everything created our bodies to heal themselves. It makes a whole lot more sense than you know, just us turning to plants and see if yeah, let's see if that works.

Speaker 1:

Exactly, yeah, that spiritual aspect of healing is such a huge part of the healing journey, and so I just I'm always sad to see someone neglect that because it's so essential to your healing.

Speaker 3:

All right. So how is your dad doing?

Speaker 1:

He's doing well. He's actually doing well. I'm Scotty Kane because I think that this encouraged him. I think diet and nutrition is the hardest aspect for him. He'll take any kind of supplements we give him. He'll sit in the sun occasionally so he'll do some things. But you know, nailing down that nutrition and diet is really a challenge for a lot of people and he's over 70. So I think coming and hearing this is just encouraging and being around other people who are doing it and going hard in that direction. So hopefully he leaves encouraged in that area and I'm not just the nagging daughter like eat your salad, juice, juice, juice. You know.

Speaker 3:

How's your mom taking that Is she.

Speaker 1:

She's really helpful. She is actually on a healing journey herself not cancer, but just other autoimmune and some thyroid things like that. So they both are. I think they're just seeing. Now in their 70s they have over 20 grandkids that they're wanting to keep up with. Yeah, I'm one of four, and so I think that they're just seeing. Like you know, longevity matters to them because they have these people they want to be present for, and so it matters that the little choices that you make in your lifetime they add up and it's important. So I think they're starting to see that and I'm glad they have each other. They can lean on each other and nag each other. They do a little bit of that too. Just kind of it helps when you have a partner that's supportive.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and I got to meet them at the restaurant also.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 3:

So I actually a lot of people are at that place.

Speaker 1:

I knew it's like the Healing Strong after party at the restaurant. Yeah, and it was just a reference, it was a clean restaurant. It was the Templeton List. Yeah, that I don't know if y'all mentioned that, but it gives a list of healthy and cleaner options for when you're traveling. So that's so helpful for people to know.

Speaker 3:

So nobody was at McDonald's, is what you say.

Speaker 1:

I don't know if they were. They probably took their lander off so that you wouldn't know they were a Healing Strong person.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I think I lost my neck, but that's not why.

Speaker 1:

If we find it at the McDonald's, we'll know.

Speaker 3:

I mean, someone stole it. Now, what kind of not protocol? Well, I guess you call it protocol. Do you put your family on? Obviously you want your kids to. You have four kids, right?

Speaker 1:

I do yeah.

Speaker 3:

And they're all perfect.

Speaker 1:

Oh angels, yeah, Perfectly healthy. No, no, we're work in progress, for sure, but it's just really having a healthy pregnancy and healthy labor. That starts about two years prior to conception.

Speaker 1:

You really want to start laying the groundwork, detoxing and focusing on your nutrition, and actually the father's nutrition matters just as much as the mom's. Mom's carry the heavy load, but that's actually. They are 50-50 there, so it matters what they're doing as well. So we started to really try cleaning up our diet and I wish I had known about this prior to. I already had one son before I started with Healing Strong, and so the other three. I felt like got a little bit better, but I had to start. But kids are resilient. He's caught quickly. So we try to eat clean. For the most part, we follow pretty much an 80-20 rule because I want them to be able to live in the world. So, for example, if they go to a birthday party, you can have a piece of cake or a piece of pizza. We're not gonna do all of the things, so we just hit Just don't swallow.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, put it out when they're not looking. I just try to be mindful of that. I try to keep healthier snack options with us available all the time and then I teach them those things. It's not that I'm depriving you of anything. It's that I want your body to be strong and your mind to be strong, and when they're sick we talk about a lot of times that's mom takes some responsibility for that. But this is what happens when we allow ourselves to make too many choices that don't feed our mind and bodies. Well, we get sick and we get run down. So we try to get enough sleep. I try to get them some morning sunlight. I homeschool them, so shirts are optional. So we're outside in the sun a lot. We do school outside a lot.

Speaker 1:

We have a whole house water filtration system that's really important Open the windows and breathe clean air. We have air purifiers in the house. So and this has been a journey for sure this is not something. Well, I'm kind of a hardcore person, so I kind of went zero to a hundred, like they say not to do. My husband, thankfully, was on board when I was throwing out all the toothpaste and switching us to natural deodorant and trying to clean up our household products, cleaning products, personal care. Thankfully he was on board because at first that wasn't cheap. So what I recommend? Write out of something and then, once you've read out of that, switch to a cleaner product and so it's not so expensive all at once.

Speaker 3:

It's hard to get this husband's on board, isn't it?

Speaker 1:

Sometimes thankfully, mine is he actually has come to me with come with me to these conferences. So I think, hearing that himself, he understands that he also likes to take care of himself and has the family health issues that he's trying to avoid that we've seen family members unfortunately experienced. And we want to be around for a long time and not just longevity, but health span is important. We don't want to get into our later years and be sick. It's not awesome to live to 100. For your last 30 years you're sick. Health span matters too.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, that's true my parents. They lasted into their 90s and are healthy, except my mom got dementia. But she was pleasant, she was still fun, she still recognized me.

Speaker 1:

That's good. That's always a pleasure.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I think. But she also, you know, with this bless her heart, she was very entertaining, a very good woman of God. I mean she would still at night, she would still be on her knees to pray. I mean, she's done that her entire life. I remember growing up here with her. Every time she was praying for me, she was crying. So I don't know why. Now, I was a good child, but I don't know. But see, I mean, even when she had dementia, she'll do that. She couldn't stand back up, so the nurses had to come and help her up. They all go. You know, ms Darius, she can sit on the side of the bed and pray, but she didn't remember that five minutes later.

Speaker 1:

But yeah, it's a good story. I can see so in her prayers. I'm sure are part of why you're here today.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and now she's gone. So what do I do now?

Speaker 1:

Maybe your wife's at home underneath crying. We'll pray for you.

Speaker 3:

Why, why'd you pick him for me? Anyway, well, yeah, you're like the perfect mom for crying out loud.

Speaker 1:

No, no, no, definitely not. But I am thankful that I have learned those things because, just you know, my parents didn't really know better and I grew up eating lots of McDonald's and drinking lots of sports drinks and, just you know, not a really very healthy lifestyle. And when I was like 14 or 15, it just clicked with me. Hey, I don't really know my family medical history and you know, god gave me this temple. I want to honor and take care of it. So I did my best and you know there's a lot of things that I've done wrong through the years.

Speaker 1:

I played sports at a high level. I was a college athlete and I can remember, like thinking I was really healthy, by filling up my plastic water bottle. I had a big one liter plastic like Deer Park water bottle that I would let sit in my bat bag and I would refill it from the water fountain with this tap water. You know, toxic tap water and then all the BPAs leaching into the water and I thought I was healthier than everybody else, but all my friends drinking Coke's, you know. And then, as I've gotten older and I learned, you know, maybe that wasn't the best thing, but our bodies are resilient too and you can make those changes and because of epigenetics you can change, you can turn off and on those genes. So you know, everybody has cancer cells in their body and we have the ability. That's so empowering to me that we have the ability to turn, to change our lifestyle and it turns off those bad genes.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I'm from the generation that drank from the garden hose all the time. I was gonna say, look at me, but I have cancer, didn't I? That's probably what it was, I had garden hose. Yeah, give me melanoma on the top of my head. It doesn't make sense. Yeah, I did work at a greenhouse in Florida for like six years, and usually without a hat and my hair was getting thin. So I might have something to do with it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, well, you know, I think the sun is kind of demonized, but the reality, if you're living a clean lifestyle and your body is able to withstand that and the sun is beneficial. And so it's unfortunate that it's so that people are so afraid of the sun, because it can be, it's so healing.

Speaker 3:

Okay, look at that. I have a friend who is you remind me of her. Actually, she's into this.

Speaker 1:

She's amazing.

Speaker 3:

Right, she's amazing. I thought so.

Speaker 1:

She's like my best friend ever I thought so, you know outside of the family.

Speaker 3:

But she's sending me all these articles about how the sun, of course, when you eat right, when you have the healthy fat, because you know what 60, 70 years ago you know, when you sunscrained or wore sunglasses and now we think that, well, we're protecting ourselves, but actually we're just putting chemicals on ourselves and they keep in the sun from the energy that comes into our eyes.

Speaker 1:

I don't know all this stuff, it makes sense. Okay, so sunglasses if you are blocking those, your brain is not recognizing that it needs to turn on the protective measures.

Speaker 3:

That's what it is doing, because you're putting it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so that I mean that does make sense. So I've tried to have weighed sunglasses over the last few years. So it's hard. Sometimes I'm like I feel like I'm on the beach and sometimes I'll still have my husband's sunglasses.

Speaker 3:

But I can't avoid it, so that does make sense, doesn't it though? It does. Think about it. It sounds crazy until it doesn't and you're like okay, if you go back to the way it used to be before. We screwed up all the food Well, we didn't personally, but the people making money off of it screwed it all up.

Speaker 1:

Those who make money off of us being sick.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, all those people, and that's why things are so hard to change, because of the money that's involved, but as people like Healing Strong and other organizations, as we get that information out, that people are starting to wake up to this kind of stuff Exactly, which, speaking of you, mentioned earlier Dr Google, just throwing it out there.

Speaker 1:

I took Google off of my phone and I used DuckDuckGo. And there are other search engines available that you can use that are not quite so censored. So I would recommend that, because a lot of times you'll have access information that you're looking for in other search engines that aren't so financially tied to the pharmaceutical industry for example, I've been one that switch over is it work well? Yeah, fast, I like it, it's quick.

Speaker 3:

All right, and it's fun to say.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, duck-duck-go.

Speaker 3:

Google says it dumb word. Yeah, that's very interesting. So how old are your kids?

Speaker 1:

They are 10, eight, six and my daughter will be after three boys and then a girl. My daughter will be four next week and I think we want one more. I think I got my husband talked into one more. Sometimes I'm embarrassed to admit that because everybody thinks we're crazy for having a million kids, but the only thing holding me back is that twins run really heavily on both of our families and I think that might send me over the edge and I might go from you know, perfect mom to crazy mom.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, that's a thin line. I'm towing it some days, so yeah, I wanted six, my wife wanted four, so we compromised at four.

Speaker 1:

Nice.

Speaker 3:

Yes, ma'am, since you got a car, we had just two for it.

Speaker 1:

You know what's your age gaps and what's your lineup Boy-girl.

Speaker 3:

It's boy-girl-girl-boy.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 3:

And my oldest is 30,. Believe it or not, my youngest is will be 16 in November, so I was 50 when the last one came.

Speaker 1:

I love that. That's awesome, see, yeah, age is just a number. Yeah, I try to scare you about that too. Like I technically would be considered geriatric, I'm like I do not receive that. You can just cross that off my chart. You can say it behind my back if you want to, but I do not call me geriatric. Thank, you.

Speaker 3:

Let me write that down. We'll just go ahead and do it Once you're over 35, you're not?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, just Daniel, that's fine, I'll take that.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I mean I know that goes with the woman, but I was 36 with the first one and which is late for most guys. They're like, oh my gosh, you're gonna be such and such at age, like what's wrong with you? I love having kids at home. I still got the one at home, two girls in college and my oldest one lives in Nashville with his wife.

Speaker 1:

Oh, that's awesome.

Speaker 3:

So they're doing well.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

I love kids. I would still have six, but I don't think it works.

Speaker 1:

So what are you now? 66. 66, okay, yeah, so I mean, if you were AD showing up at graduation?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I'd have to be a rock star to have kids at late, like Rod Stewart, people like that.

Speaker 1:

Well, you said you played guitar, right, yeah, so I mean you're technically a rock star, yeah, okay, don't tell your wife I'm giving you any ideas. She's mad at me.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

She would sit with me at the presentation at Free Chapel, so that's true, that's a good point.

Speaker 3:

So, okay, this is a guy question what's your husband do?

Speaker 1:

So he is actually in the financial industry and he helps people with overfunded whole life bank policies, the infinite banking concept and retirement, secure retirement tools. That's a big part of what he does. That's probably 70% and then 30%. He has a custom closet business, so two opposite ends of this. Well, it's all numbers related, but kind of two opposite things. He's really good at both of them.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and you just chased four kids around.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I homeschooled them. Yeah, I help him with his businesses and I've actually ran businesses in the past and I taught middle school for five years before I had my first.

Speaker 3:

Wow, yeah, I didn't mean, you just chased four kids around, but my wife would kill me on that one.

Speaker 1:

Who knows If it was four kids knows exactly what you did.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, we have four kids. My wife homeschooled all of them except for, like, well, one of them. All the way through the rest, like in high school, they went to a private school. But yeah, and she runs a business and she was a teacher, a music teacher, in the public schools. So yeah, totally understand that, yeah, that's awesome. She's a worker, hollick. That's why she's never with me when I go to places like this. Yeah, she's always working running in after school care, which is what she owns.

Speaker 1:

Oh, okay.

Speaker 3:

With 150 kids Wow.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's a big job.

Speaker 3:

I stay away from that. So tell us now that this weekend is over. What did you say to that?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it was incredible and it's something that you have to be in the room and experience, and I'm so thankful for those of you that are listening to the podcast. But, if I can encourage you, to get in the room the next time that we have, when there's something about being here, the environment, being around a group of believers and hearing people's experiences and looking them in the eye and hearing their stories, it's really inspiring and I learned something and take something away every single time that I come to these and I listened. I'm a learner, so I listened to all kinds of podcasts. I've read a million books. I've been a part of Healing Strong for the whole 10 years now, and so sometimes I feel like what else can I possibly learn? But there's just always something new coming out and there's things that change over time and companies that change, and it's just. I just love the opportunity to continue growing that it was powerful.

Speaker 3:

I find it very interesting and very inspiring that someone gets involved with Healing Strong. That is not sick. And of course you say your dad of course has cancer. But what kind of cancer is he in?

Speaker 1:

Prostate and it spreads. Unfortunately, he got some bad advice from a doctor early on on radiation seeds and he wasn't, you know, told the whole story and did not ask the whole story that those can never be removed and there's a 50% chance of it coming back. So that was originally in 2007, and so it has since come back. He was in full remission at the time that I started Healing Strong in 2010. So, yeah, when I joined, it was really just kind of by happen I just happened upon the meeting but it resonated with me. I've always loved, specifically health and disease prevention, so it's been a blessing to be a part of it. For those seniors, so I guess I was 28 when I first started yeah, 28 and I'm 38 now.

Speaker 3:

Wow yeah, just a child.

Speaker 1:

I appreciate that I do receive that.

Speaker 3:

Yes, yeah. Well, in my head I'm 40 and that seems old. Until I see a mirror, I'm like, oh my gosh, how did my dad get in there?

Speaker 1:

It is crazy.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah. That's really why I got out of radio, because I was seeing pictures of myself on stage. I thought someone's grandfather wander down onto the stage. That really is me. I was like, okay, I'm really killing the cool factor of a radio. So many people get into Healing Strong or something like this. You know when they do get sick, when they get desperate and they want help. So my hat is off to you, figured speaking, because my hair is a mess right now. You're one of the leaders.

Speaker 1:

I was a group leader. I had to pass the torch on that once.

Speaker 3:

Oh, the kids yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, once. But I still enjoy everything that they do and put out there and I do see myself maybe in the future, just because I'm so passionate about this and I love being able to support people who are walking through it, because it can be a very lonely journey, especially if you don't have, you know, if your family is not supportive. It's so nice to have that community. I think that's a big part of Healing is having support and having prayer. That's powerful. But if we can help people on the front end and prevent, how powerful is that? That's why I'm really so. That's my focus, that's my.

Speaker 1:

I actually created a whole. I have a huge Facebook group and I created a course for that. It's called Hip Holistic Mama and it's just specifically geared towards busy moms who want to help their families be healthier. But they don't know practically what does that look like, like what product should I be using? So I did a home tour. I went through my entire house. I took them through my laundry room, my kitchen, my pantry, the bathrooms, showed them the products that I used, some cooking tips, fast, quick meal ideas, healthy meal ideas. So that's been really cool, really fruitful to see, because there's so much and you know this. There's so much information out there now that it can be overwhelming and confusing, right, because of so much of it seems contradictory, and so we just need like a simple plan, and that was my goal to simplify healthy living for busy moms.

Speaker 3:

Yes, perfect. I'm not sure if they're shutting this building down or not.

Speaker 1:

Get locked in here.

Speaker 3:

There's one person left and they're sweeping the floor, but there is worship service going on across the street, so I don't want you to have to miss that on that, but I appreciate you hanging around and doing this.

Speaker 1:

That's much I enjoyed it and you did a great job today on the panel and sharing your story, and I appreciate your efforts in leading the podcast, because I know that's a lot of time and investment.

Speaker 3:

I do it from the home, so it's not that bad yeah.

Speaker 1:

Well, I appreciate you letting me. I'm not tech savvy, so that's for certain. So I appreciate you letting me do this on site where I don't have to like plug anything in, or you know load anything up.

Speaker 3:

I gotta talk you through stuff. It's terrible. Well, daniel, thank you so much for doing this, and I'm really impressed.
