033 From Fear to Freedom: Living with Genetic Mutation BRCA1
Sep 25, 2023 Episode 33
Jennica Sadhwani | Not Today Media

Eva Moon talks about her discovery and journey as a carrier of a rare genetic mutation called BRCA1, or Breast Cancer Gene 1. Found in about 1 in 500 women in the USA, this rare mutation gives an 87% chance of breast cancer and 55% chance of ovarian cancer along with other increased risks of other cancers. After tragically losing her mother to cancer, Eva faced the daunting reality of her own genetic predisposition to the disease. She shares her fears of living with it and thus the ensuing and painful decision to undergo preventative double mastectomy and hysterectomy surgeries. Join us as we listen to her raw unraveling of experiences and how she coped in tough times.
