Float like a butterfly with us as we chat with Shannon Clark, the LFA featherweight champion with a punch, and her coach, Joel Odorski, who packs a coaching style as unique as his fighter's left hook. Speaker 1:

From there, you can show your support by donating a small amount per month to help us cover costs. We appreciate you listening and hope that you enjoy the episode as much as we enjoyed recording it. In today's episode, we're extremely excited to be talking to our friends Shana Clark and Joel O'Dorsky. Shana is the freshly minted women's LFA featherweight champion, with her brutal submission in round two of her recent fight. Joel is her coach and has been with her throughout her journey. Cj and I know first hand how much of a B-Shanan is, as we have had the pleasure of being counted among her training partners.

Speaker 2:

Ever king Hi, do either of you want a tea before we start? No, thank you.

Speaker 1:

You got your own thing perfect. All you got protein, protein over there.

Speaker 4:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Probably need more muscle mass, so I'm thinking you should keep up that protein intake. Can you open that?

Speaker 2:

Shannon have you ever listened to any of our podcasts.

Speaker 4:

I've never listened to a podcast in my life.

Speaker 1:

What you don't listen to podcasts. What do you listen to?

Speaker 4:

Music Can you hear me, Kurt? Can you hear me Books? You listen to books? Nope, I read books.

Speaker 1:

Reading books, listening to music never listen to podcasts.

Speaker 2:

Not even the podcasts you've been on.

Speaker 4:

Have I been on any.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, Top Turtle, you were on that one. You're also on one. I watched before this fight with a dude over Skype.

Speaker 3:

I can't remember the name the starch guy.

Speaker 1:

Wasn't it like MMA, did you black out on that one too?

Speaker 3:

There's a chance you know the guy that brought the girl that did your hair.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

He had a podcast. You were on that.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it was like a 20 minute little interview, mma. But, that's on a podcast.

Speaker 4:

there's a video.

Speaker 1:

Okay well, it's a video podcast, but it's okay.

Speaker 3:

We could put a camera up there and film us, and this is still a podcast.

Speaker 2:

Well, the next time hopefully the next time you guys are here, this studio will have some couches and like a curtain and some video cameras, Like we're going legit TV.

Speaker 3:

Go in legit doing what here Kurt Podcasts or casting couches, there's couches and there's.

Speaker 2:

TVs you know what couches you can sit on and you can do a lot of things with them.

Speaker 1:

Rent it by the hour, whatever you need to do.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I'm going to wall off the entrance in here so people can come and go with OBNC.

Speaker 1:

Yeah Well, welcome to our podcasting studio. I'm just recording. I just hit record. You can talk into the mic, there's no pressure.

Speaker 2:

This is not an interview. This is not like us being like Shannon. Okay, tell us about it.

Speaker 3:

Oh no we are totally going to 100%. No.

Speaker 2:

So tell us. But you do have to listen to this after.

Speaker 1:

I will, yeah, first podcast you listen to. Oh, that'll be nice.

Speaker 2:

And she'll be like oh, I sound so stupid, why don't you let me say that, yeah, yeah like I'm just going to grab the arm and I'm going to do the thing, and then the thing is going to happen and it's going to be amazing. Yeah.

Speaker 4:

You guys weren't there for the one interview I had. Oh my God.

Speaker 1:

Was it afterwards?

Speaker 3:

So fucking bad.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I don't think people think.

Speaker 3:

I have a break. It was significantly worse than the one in Vale.

Speaker 1:

That's amazing. So it was after what?

Speaker 3:

No, it's like after weigh-ins. Yeah, they do a panel interview where you go and sit in front of Pressure. Yeah, it's kind of is yeah, you sit in front of the two people that do this the Portuguese broadcast, the two people that do the English broadcast and then some other guy who's in both of them but I don't know what he does, but he's pretty nice and then they just ask you questions about, like, what's your game plan? And so this is what they say they use for the broadcast.

Speaker 4:

But last one, they didn't know me, so they're like oh, you have kids, what do?

Speaker 3:

you do for a living.

Speaker 4:

Oh yeah, so that's easy to talk about, Right? This one the first question. But hang on.

Speaker 3:

They did start asking you some questions about your kids and your fights and your answers are pretty awesome. Yeah, they had to look at me because, like Gilbert Melendez goes, you have kids that are this age group and you fought three times in the last year. And Shannon's like, no, I didn't. And he's like, no, you've had three fights this year or something. She's like no, no, I haven't. And he's going back forth and he looks at me and he's like, coach, is it three? And I'm like uh-huh.

Speaker 3:

So he goes Shannon in the last calendar year you've had three fights.

Speaker 4:

She's like oh, yeah, I guess.

Speaker 1:

I have.

Speaker 2:

That's awesome though, so this one didn't go any better.

Speaker 4:

No, I think the first question was what have you been training lately? Fighting, yeah Right, I was like I don't know.

Speaker 3:

That was the second question.

Speaker 4:

What was the first one?

Speaker 3:

First question was what's your team name? And she just looked at them, pardoned, and she's like whatever. And they're like what's your team name? And she's like what?

Speaker 3:

No, but it didn't say team name. He did say team name. And then she's like she looks at me and goes what's the team name? He's like where do you train? And I was like in a basement, did they. Looked at her again. She's like where do you train? And she goes well, the Lethbridge police service or whatever. And like can we use that? And I'm like, yeah, they're like oh, because that's much better than the basement, the dungeon. And then it was that UFC guy. That's like straight into what technique? Like right off the bat.

Speaker 1:

So he was hilarious. So after the fight was over I was listening to the broadcast and he told he's like yeah, I was talking to her before the fight and I was really worried Because like I was like I asked her a question about technique and she kind of was just like, yeah, I put my arm here and I do this and I do that, and like I don't know, and it works out sometimes. And he was like I was really worried for her.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, it was pretty funny. Yeah, he definitely gave off the vibe that he thinks I'm really dope. Oh yeah, he was so bad.

Speaker 3:

He was so technique specific. Yeah, like what have you been working on the ground to improve your positions? Or what's the mission? It's like holy.

Speaker 4:

And then I was like I don't know. He pushed the arm around and then he get like the underhook and like the guys I train with know what I'm talking about and they do the flip, but it just like I don't know that's cool. I was like I think it's a half something and I look at you and I'm just like, ah, that's hilarious.

Speaker 1:

Because he was so. He was so like just in awe, he was like, ah, just, I really thought she was kind of screwed to go against his like black belt and it just it was pretty funny to listen to him talk about it.

Speaker 4:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

But he was wrong. Turned out good though.

Speaker 4:

I did, thank goodness Turned out good.

Speaker 3:

It was hard to listen to the interview Because I was like I sit in there going, oh no, I wanted to go to the ground. Yeah, you want to be cocky, right? Yeah, he's asking those and I'm like, oh, she's going to smash her, like the ground is the worst place for this girl to go. But you don't want to say that because then you sound like it's a complete jackass, right?

Speaker 2:

But I wanted to tell him be like oh, you'll see, we'll see, stand by, stand by, just watch out.

Speaker 4:

Or I think they asked like what my favorite thing on the ground was.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, he was super technical.

Speaker 4:

And I was like I don't know Domination, is that a?

Speaker 2:

thing. I don't know names. I just love to look on his face because he's like at the end he's like so, like ah, he's like walk me through what happened there, and you're like I just kind of blocked it.

Speaker 1:

But he liked it. At first he was kind of like okay, but then he's like, okay, this is fine, this is good. Well, yeah, I think that in ring interview is great, like I think that was. I think it was great because it showed, like your personality. You're just like a fun, loving person who just happens to be really good at this thing, and, like everyone, I think it was really good. I don't know.

Speaker 2:

I don't know For anybody that would train with you. They'd be like, yeah, That'd be nice. That's who I am. I have an alter ego.

Speaker 4:

That's why I have to keep the crap out of people for a warm up to get that side to come out.

Speaker 1:

That's okay, maybe not for drill, that was more than five words, just so you know. Take some water. Oh, it's already got water break time For those of you people tuning in, and don't? We just kind of jumped into this because we didn't want to make it awkward. So the channel would actually talk. We are talking to the champion of the LFA 125 pound weight division, shannon Clark, and coach Joel. Thank you for coming guys.

Speaker 3:

You're welcome. Thanks, you're welcome.

Speaker 2:

If you guys pause, we'll like put it in like a yeah clap.

Speaker 3:

It was all for you, by the way.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it's exciting. Is that that's not fly weight? What is the straw weight?

Speaker 4:

No that is fly weight.

Speaker 2:

That is fly weight oh yeah.

Speaker 4:

I learned that too. Did I just win?

Speaker 3:

So she improved, like remember we said, vale, there was some disastrous like the after way ends, what did they even call that one? It was just like where she's in front of the camera and she had to answer a thing about Canadian fighters.

Speaker 4:

Okay, that was about 40 takes.

Speaker 2:

At least and we're not exaggerating. Wow, yeah, 40 takes.

Speaker 4:

They had a lineup of the people that were supposed to go after me. They're all just watching he gets up and he leaves the almost the room yeah, I would say the other end of the thing.

Speaker 3:

It was so funny.

Speaker 4:

I couldn't yeah.

Speaker 3:

So this time, this time wouldn't do it. He has same guy, sees her and they both to start laughing and he's like it's not going to be as hard this time. All you have to say is hi, I'm Shannon Clark and I'll be fighting for the LFA fly weight title tomorrow night. Lfa 177 UFC fight pass about 20 takes.

Speaker 4:

And the first take. He's like, when I hold my finger up, start and we like him and I practiced. We practiced like five, six, seven times, couldn't do it, but we were practicing. And he holds his finger up and I just stared, I'm just like, and he's like okay, well, take two, we're going to start talking. And I was like, oh no.

Speaker 4:

So then I would like couldn't get past my name and then eventually I got my name. But then I struggled hard with the fly weight. I'd be like, okay, the 125 fly weight, and he's like, nope, that's the same thing, One or the other just pick one, it was bad. And then it got to the point where they're like do you want cue cards, like so then he started writing out the cue card.

Speaker 2:

That guy rolls out the teleprompter.

Speaker 3:

I started writing out a cue card.

Speaker 2:

I was going to go stand by that guy with it on my chest because it was so painful again.

Speaker 4:

But I got through right when he was like almost done the cue cards. I got through it awkwardly.

Speaker 2:

The next fight they're going to assign you like a media liaison.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, yeah, that was, yeah that was.

Speaker 1:

Why do you find that that's? Is it just like not your personality to be in front of the camera and it just like freaks you out, or what is it about it?

Speaker 4:

Oh, they just make you sound so like confident and cocky about stop being.

Speaker 1:

Which I find it. So. I find that so interesting, right? Because, like you said, after the veil, one like you kind of got there and was like, oh my god, this is a big deal he showed off at like an organization like LFA where it's so professional. And then you're like, holy crap, this is. I guess I should take this more seriously or something. Is that kind of how you felt with this one too, or was it different?

Speaker 4:

I didn't realize the belt was such a big deal. Like you, really and when I said in a different interview. I was like well, people win belts all the time in their cities, like I won rumble on the cage, but like that's not this is the LFA.

Speaker 4:

People. Yeah, it was just another belt, Like I didn't even think about it. And then you get there and I was like, oh, like it's actually poor, like people actually care, and it's just mind blowing. He kept trying to convince me and I was like, oh my gosh, it's just a belt. Who cares? Apparently, it's big.

Speaker 2:

Apparently not to drag this off track, but do you get to like, keep the belt?

Speaker 4:

I do. I'm going to be bringing it to show the boys that I train with Amazing the belt, like you don't have to give it, like there's not a scenario where you have to give it back.

Speaker 2:

Nope, I got to keep it.

Speaker 4:

That's cool. Yeah, it'll be framed up somewhere.

Speaker 1:

And then if you had to defend it and you want it and you kept like you want it again, you got a new one.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I believe so.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I think that's how it works. Do you have a rumble in the cage belt? I do. Oh, wow, so I'm just lining those ones up.

Speaker 4:

See, they mean the same. Although I did weigh them and the rumble in the cage belt was like four and a half pounds, I think, and the LFA one was oh gosh, I think like 13 pounds.

Speaker 1:

Oh wow, that's a gigantic difference, why did?

Speaker 4:

you weigh them. It's really heavy. I don't know, I just wanted to know. My face when I first had it on was like oh dear gosh. And I was like this is heavy. And someone happened to just take a picture of that.

Speaker 1:

Perfect.

Speaker 4:

I have really also. Last time I got told I need to work on my winning face because I might have been a little pouty last night. This time I got told I need to work on like that's a great picture.

Speaker 1:

But like the different.

Speaker 4:

That's awesome.

Speaker 3:

I know right.

Speaker 1:

The difference is right. So, like the last fight, the veil fight, you just felt like you didn't execute like you wanted to, right, so you're a little disappointed in that. I was really mad at myself. But then this time, obviously, ocom was a lot different, so it makes sense that you were a lot more visibly excited.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I've rewatched the fight and my first round. I'm still mad at myself for it. There's a lot of things I should have done differently, but I think it was just more like holy crap, I choked a girl out.

Speaker 1:

You. Okay, we don't need to talk about this a bunch, but like I thought you killed her. I was like I was like oh my God, ref, like her neck is going to break off Like someone, stop this thing.

Speaker 4:

Well, and you'll see in the video, I didn't know she was out, yeah, but I was just really mad because I'm like hey, why are you not tapping? Like boys, I train with tap. And I'm not even like, and I'm lifted I'm not sitting on the ground or all my knees like why are you not tapping? So then I pushed her face into the cage and was like hey, like, at least the cage is going to hurt you if you're not going to tap. She was already out, but like I didn't know that. So I'm just like come on lady oh man.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you can't tap when you're passed out. It's hard.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, apparently.

Speaker 2:

Do you know what the ref was like?

Speaker 4:

I think he was just in such a bad spot Like I don't think the way. I was and the way she was, I don't think he could see her.

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 4:

And like because I mean I could. I was looking and I couldn't see her.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, Like it's because you were twisting her neck around, so her face was the other guy.

Speaker 4:

It was the cage, like girl, it was the cage, like I can't do damage. At least this thing can, maybe. And I think it was just the awkward spot, so like the people that could see her face were like what the f**k is she out? Is she out, is she out?

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 4:

But I just think he just unfortunate where we were in that spot, I just don't think he could tell.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, the, the, the, definitely. The camera from the outside of the cage right Looking at you. It's like brutal right Cause you can see she was out for like seven seconds or something while you were squeezing the cap out of her. Yeah, Like I don't know if 100% couldn't have seen that angle, but it's.

Speaker 2:

It's so like full circle, cause like the bulldog joke is such an awesome joke and like I don't know how long ago we did that here and then, obviously you guys put some time and like a refresher into that, but like when you stood up and then sat forward.

Speaker 4:

I all of I was like hmm, she's done. Like as soon as you got your legs in front of you.

Speaker 2:

I was like, yeah, she's far.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I definitely. I was a little confused why she wasn't tapping, though, Like I'm not going to lie, I was very confused Like how long? And then I just remember from my rumble in the cage fight with Tanya, when I tried choking her out, um, I locked eyes with Joel. It just so happened and I was like I thought it was been like a minute and it's been what four seconds.

Speaker 1:

It just seemed like no.

Speaker 4:

And so then I should have held it. So this time I was like, okay, we're going to start counting. And in my head I'm just like, okay, it's been one, two, like to make sure it's been a long enough time If I have to switch things up. But really I was just counting to almost her death.

Speaker 3:

And I was just hoping you didn't break her back. Oh, I know.

Speaker 1:

That's what I was like.

Speaker 3:

No, like as soon as she grabbed it, right Cause we honestly did talk about it that morning, you know I said do this, if you do one thing, do that one, cause it doesn't put you in a bad position. If you don't get it, you'll finish her with whatever you. I believe she would finish her with any submission she wanted on the ground, but that doing those other ones, like the triangle, narnbar, would put her in a bad spot. So I said just don't risk it. If it's there, take it. She'll panic and that'll be it. And as soon as she stood, had it and stood up, I'm like, oh, this is over. And I'm like, okay, she's just going to go to sleep. Then, when you really lean back on her, I was like, oh shit, maybe I should yell let go.

Speaker 4:

Like there was a small party.

Speaker 3:

That's like she's going to break her back. I should yell let go and beat her up completely, cause I was like I don't know why you're not tapping.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Well, that's. I don't know what the ref's doing, but I know Shannon's not going to let go anytime soon, so we're going to have we're going to have a backbreaker in there, but it worked out.

Speaker 1:

And then and then, knowing Shannon, if she, if she had broken her back or snapped her neck in half, I'd like I don't think she'd ever fight again, cause she just like no, I can't hurt anybody. This is stupid. No, sorry, sorry sorry, yeah, exactly. Like the time that your ankle popped and training, and then it was just like I'm done, I'm done. I know it's different cause she's like you guys are friends, but like I just was worried, I was like for your sake.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I mean, I saw a video after of me being like oh my gosh, and him being like, look away, look away, cause she's still laying on the ground. It was like oh my face was yeah.

Speaker 3:

But if you see the pictures Ella Faye sent today, you're jumping in the air looking at her. She's not moving.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, those are good pictures.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, you got a. You enjoyed part of that.

Speaker 4:

Well, I enjoyed cause I won, and then a minute, two minutes goes by and she still hasn't moved and it's like, oh concerned.

Speaker 2:

Well, in that photo, the photo of you like, with the belly, I was like yeah, it was like the best photo. Did you talk to her at all after?

Speaker 4:

Yeah, we went down cause you have to get checked by the doctor and first it was awkward cause then I felt bad, cause usually the doctors there's one room and then the other room Felt bad because of the attempted homicide. Yeah, yeah, Back to that. I did ask Joel. I was like, would I go to jail if I actually killed her Like I just wanted to know.

Speaker 2:

Like am I?

Speaker 4:

in trouble for that, and then he said no.

Speaker 1:

I was so scared I was going to get in trouble there for sure.

Speaker 4:

But no, we went downstairs and they had the doctor in the same room, so we had to wait for her to come out. And when she came out, I think she says something about like you are strong.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, she's what she said. She said thank you to me and to Brody. She said you're strong and her coach is like fist bump.

Speaker 4:

They were totally fine with that, that's good, my, my response was okay, safe travel. Because when I said back.

Speaker 1:

I was like safe travel. That is what you said.

Speaker 4:

What do you say? Like I don't know. I'm so sorry.

Speaker 1:

Yes, I am, yes, I am, yes, I am.

Speaker 3:

In the cage, like if you watch the video. She's smiling.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

And her one. I think it's her cut man or something. You had a beard. He has a huge smile on his face when he high five shouted Like they're don't seem bothered by it at all.

Speaker 2:

Well, and to be fair, I like was watching her Instagram for the next few days and like they're just having a time to turn around Buffalo.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, good autumn.

Speaker 2:

I mean, that is the whole goal is not to dwell, I guess on.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, good autumn.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, how is Niagara Falls? Have you been there? Have you been there before?

Speaker 4:

Um the Canadian side of in their ones, but it was really cold. Oh, was it oh okay, it was a cold day and it was like getting go to photos and get back to the car. Yeah, it's basically, I think, all we did.

Speaker 2:

Did people look at you weird when you were walking around with your belt over your shoulder?

Speaker 4:

Um well, I came in a little briefcase to go beg. So we kept it in that and then we got there to do the pictures. There was a couple guys, I think for sure one guy that came up and asked for photos and since then he's like message me.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's Scotty baseball.

Speaker 3:

I have no idea.

Speaker 1:

I do ask.

Speaker 2:

Well, because I saw a photo of her with the belt and then I liked it, and then he started following us.

Speaker 1:

Oh no, oh right, that's okay, welcome, oh listen.

Speaker 4:

I was going to say it could, yeah, I want to say something Welcome, Scotty baseball yeah. Yeah, and then he offered like to go for, like take my dad and I out for breakfast the next day. And he's like this, is so cool to meet someone like this.

Speaker 2:

And when I saw that picture I thought you were walking around like just with the picture. I was walking around with my whole time, shoulders Like just chilling, just walking around People being like what the fuck?

Speaker 4:

No, yeah, no, and then before that we actually went because the people sitting at the same table, I think as my dad and like Melanie and who went, and Matt, matt, Matt.

Speaker 2:

Matt.

Speaker 4:

There was. They owned a cookie store that just opened up, and so we went there the next day, the one in town. No, the one in Niagara Falls. Yeah. And so we went there and they just like oh my gosh, you actually came and like still think about that. Yeah, it was actually really cool. It made you feel famous, that's for sure.

Speaker 1:

That's awesome. Well, you're famous now. It's a big deal. I don't know if you know this, but it's a big deal.

Speaker 4:

I'm kind of just finding that out today. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Your Instagram is probably exploded.

Speaker 4:

It has.

Speaker 2:

Maybe you need to post some more pictures every once in a while.

Speaker 1:

You got to get you like a social media manager.

Speaker 2:

I know Something.

Speaker 4:

I know I haven't even posted that. I even made way before oh my God.

Speaker 3:

You've done nothing.

Speaker 4:

I don't even know if I did anything about fighting.

Speaker 3:

Well, in fairness, you needed to sleep, yeah, oh yeah, after that whole debacle.

Speaker 1:

So oh, I was so drunk. Tell us about that if you want to.

Speaker 3:

Well, the hotel that they put us up in had no bathtub. What they had, the casino, had no bathtub and then, because of previous issues with fighters, they weren't allowed to use the hotel spa or sauna.

Speaker 1:

Really.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so I had to get a room across the street at like a Hyatt I'm not sure it has a bathtub, so we checked in at like six at the other the one dropped off whatever we didn't need for a wait cut. Go over there, pull our bags in there, shut the door. Shut it looks. I mean she goes. I'm not going to leave here for a long time. No, sadly you're not. Wow. And then, yeah, just went straight to the wait cut process. Till what did you figure out? 14?

Speaker 4:

14 hours.

Speaker 2:

Oh my God, Like he didn't sleep at all during that right.

Speaker 4:

No, I think my longest break would have been like maybe 20 minutes I took.

Speaker 4:

I did like four baths, like 20 minute baths, 40 minutes sauna suit, but it was like literally, kate, as soon as one's done, he started running the bath. I would change, and it was like bam, bam, bam, bam. So that was like just over four hours worth. When I was almost done the bath, I would say Kate, and so he'd warm up the sauna suit, like it was that, and then it was like, okay, maybe we'll take like 10 minutes, so as soon as so. Once my sauna the 40 minutes was up, then we started running the bath. So it took like five, 10 minutes to fill that and then did a couple more like that and then it was more like, okay, that's give me 20 minutes. And then I think that was basically all I could afford to take.

Speaker 3:

And then you yeah, it sucks Also. We get in there and the you have to. We had to fix the drain for the bathtub because it was unscrewed and apart and rusty Gross. So we get that to work. She starts running the water and then she's like, hey, come in here and there's just like Phil, oh, no, just streaking down.

Speaker 4:

I cleaned that, and then we emptied it and then it was started coming back again. So I had to do that. I had to clean it a couple of times before I got it, cause I was like I'm not gross, right, or I'm not like high means right, like I can clean this, like you're okay with that.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's gross.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, that was, the TV was broken.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, tv was broken, did even get to watch anything.

Speaker 4:

So those were 40 minutes in the sauna suit of really long.

Speaker 1:

You know you could have done is listen to podcasts.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, she could have.

Speaker 3:

She could have.

Speaker 1:

Instead, I watched shows on Netflix or I played battleship and whatever that occupies your minds, you're not thinking about the process, right?

Speaker 4:

Oh gosh, yeah, and that mentally is very hard.

Speaker 2:

That's the hardest part for me is laying there for 40 minutes.

Speaker 4:

I don't know how to relax Like we've never noticed, yeah. I know.

Speaker 2:

That doesn't sound like you at all.

Speaker 3:

She even said to me she's can you go weigh yourself? Take the scale, go weigh yourself. Before it was like 10 o'clock or whatever. Their office, LFA's office closed. So okay, so I walk over there and as I leave, right before I leave, she goes and make sure you weigh yourself exactly whatever you have in your pockets. Everything has to be the exact same. So I go, okay.

Speaker 2:

Did you cut two again?

Speaker 3:

No, no, because then I went over there. I like weighed myself, whatever my weight is. I went to like 7-eleven in the hood to try to get some food. It was awful. Come back. She's like you do take the scale, I'm like no. So I weighed myself on it and it was 0.2 out. And then I did it again and it was 0.4 out. Oh, wow.

Speaker 3:

So well, she does it one more bath or whatever, and she's like, can you take the scale back over there? I'm just like I'm not going to be able to do this if I don't know what's 0.2 or 0.4. So, all right, put it, put it in my backpack, threw it on my bag on my back, walked over there. The LFA guys are just dying laughing at me. I'm like, yeah, she needs it. Right to the exact point. So we got that all sorted out and then came back and then neither one of us left all night.

Speaker 1:

Crazy. So we got the scale back over there and for title fights you have to be exact weight or under. Is that right? Yeah To the point.

Speaker 3:

So they said too, they're like, we asked that about the allowance. She's like, well, you know, maybe 0.2 for clothing, but we don't really know. But they'll let you. How do you not know, but they'll let you cut it after 9.45. You just need to be here for the rules meeting. We're like how long do you get after to cut it Right? And then like no answers, right. So we just went until we made one 25 point, whatever it was two and said, well, this is good enough.

Speaker 4:

And then I think that I think we stopped at 8.30 and then I attempted to walk back to the room.

Speaker 1:

Oh, my God.

Speaker 4:

That was. I leaned on a suitcase while I was walking away because it was more. I was just so messed up tired. It's not. I'd say, it wasn't my. I know you weren't like messed up from weight cuts, like I have been in the past. Like the rumble, one was the hardest one on my body but it was more of just like cause.

Speaker 4:

The night before I stayed at Melanin's, one of my best friend's houses. I think I went to bed by midnight and we had to be up at well, I heard him up at 4.40. So I got just under five hours of sleep going into the day of traveling all day cutting weight. So I've been up for like almost two a long time. Yes, Apparently, that's what it feels like to be drunk, so I'm trying to walk, and then I took a little break on the bench.

Speaker 3:

I can't, I can't focus, I can't see you very good, oh God.

Speaker 4:

I have a compacts in and everything. I don't know what's going on. Wow, he's like when we get inside, you fake it. Why will he doesn't like help me Nothing. Yeah, okay, we went into the room.

Speaker 3:

No, we went to the weigh in.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, the weigh in to make sure we got our way.

Speaker 3:

Right.

Speaker 4:

And I was point two over, yeah, and they're like, okay. So then they left the room, went naked and I got point zero. I was like, fuck it, I'll go naked. As awkward as I am, I don't want to do this. I will go naked so I don't have to cut more and I could drink at 9.45. So we go upstairs and I was like okay, I got a shower. He's like you, you dry your hair after he's like we can't for it.

Speaker 4:

I was like, okay, I got this, so I'm in the shower and I drive, or afterwards I'm doing that. And then I was like I can't find a blow dryer in this place, so I'm literally sitting there like trying to dry my hair. I'm point six over now.

Speaker 1:

Oh, my God.

Speaker 4:

And I was like thank God, thank God, I'm putting on weight, I'm trying to like walk back and forth and I like, in my room, before he noticed this, I'm like I'm going to get so much trouble. And I'm trying to like lunge or do anything and I'm dying no idea what's going on in life. And I'm like, okay, I'll do something. I was like okay, and I'm on the toilet. I'm just like can I please pee or anything Like please, nothing, obviously, but I'm just like just like point two or something. And then I drive my hair as much as possible. I'm like okay, now I'm down to point four. Yes, we're like getting there. And then he's like we really got to go and I was like crap, I'm going to get so mad.

Speaker 4:

I mean I didn't tell him I was going forward Like he's going to get so bad. So we go downstairs and then we sit in the room and then it's my turn.

Speaker 3:

You're brushing your hair, so it's obviously soaking wet yeah.

Speaker 4:

And then it goes to like me weighing in and I go and I'm like only I'm point two over and I was like, oh no, we just made way to shit. And I'm like trying to dry my hair still on there, and then they're like, okay, well, go. Like you have to go naked. So then they were like trying to get these two girls to come up and hold towels and they're like the girl like you have to do it in the room.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, Everyone's in the room and they're like okay, boys, can you please turn around? And I'm like I'm so sorry. Everyone Like please don't be mad, I'll be as fast as I can. I'm so sorry Cause like they start with the main event and then they call me to. Everyone has to wait for me. And I'm just like I'm so sorry, oh, I felt so bad. And then these girls are like oh, and the commission girls, like girls, you're opening up in the front, can you please close that for her? And stuff like that. It was so bad. And then then they're dropping it and I'm just like oh my God Like this.

Speaker 4:

And then I'm standing on my bathing suit. Oh, it was a fun time.

Speaker 2:

But we made it, but you made it.

Speaker 4:

And then, as soon as she read 125.0, and I was like, and then I was like and I'm trying to like then retie my bathing suit up and stuff, and I'm like I'm so sorry everyone, I just felt so bad, that's crazy. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Did the thought come that you would have to potentially shave your head?

Speaker 4:

I don't think I could do that. No what if I shaved my head, I didn't make weight.

Speaker 1:

What if it was like your guarantee that your hair is going to weigh enough and we're going to cut it off?

Speaker 4:

No, I'd probably just still go cut. I don't think I could do that.

Speaker 3:

No, you can for that one. Fight that person like cut a millimeter too much off your hair and you can hardly train for a week. You were just distraught.

Speaker 4:

I did cry on my bed with that.

Speaker 1:

Oh, wow, okay, Leave the hair alone. Yeah, there is no haircut for a weight cut effort, that's part of the question.

Speaker 4:

No yeah.

Speaker 1:

It did cross my mind, thinking maybe she go bald.

Speaker 2:

How much do you think her hair weighs?

Speaker 1:

I bet she weighs a lot.

Speaker 2:

Would you shave your head? Under what circumstance would you shave your head?

Speaker 4:

Maybe if I got cancer.

Speaker 1:

I don't think you shave, it's Troy I think you just lose it, then I don't know if you're shaving it. That's the only time.

Speaker 2:

I think I would no like somebody comes to you and says Shannon, hmm, good point. What would it cost? Here's the deal.

Speaker 4:

I don't think I could pay.

Speaker 2:

I want to give you $10 million.

Speaker 4:

Oh my god, are you serious? Are you fucking kidding?

Speaker 1:

Your hair grows back $10 million. I don't know if.

Speaker 4:

I could for 10 mil, nope, I could.

Speaker 2:

Nope, I'll fucking shave her head. That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I'll help you. You'll need help.

Speaker 3:

First thing we're going to do, we're all going to go piss, just in case that's true.

Speaker 1:

Thank you, yes.

Speaker 3:

Then we're going to go get ourselves $10 million.

Speaker 1:

The three of us, I think, can do it. We can get it done. We'll cut you in a little bit, save us from rounding. Yeah, I don't. That doesn't even like I that. Why don't the judge are crazy. How is that? Even a question? $10 million, it'll literally will change your life, like you don't have to ever work again. You can have you want to, but you don't need to do anything. Your kids are set up, everything's set up, and you're not going to shave your hair, which will grow back.

Speaker 4:

I don't know. Oh my God, $20 million.

Speaker 3:

But whatever she's like, Samson Loses all his strength and the hair is. What is this thing?

Speaker 1:

Curtis, that's a Bible reference. There's a story in the Bible. I know you're huge.

Speaker 2:

I thought Samson was a cartoon.

Speaker 3:

No, probably was, and then he gets his hair cut and he loses all his strength.

Speaker 1:

Samson and Delilah look it up.

Speaker 3:

What if we shaved her head? And then she would just like I say I'd like to like.

Speaker 2:

maybe we could just cut it a little bit shorter and see like, if we like, why do you want me to cry?

Speaker 1:

We're not trying to make her cry Stop it. Is the strength differential seemed like like we know how strong you are because you beat us up all the time, but like the strength differential in that fight just seemed like unsurmountable for her. Did it feel? Did it feel like that to you? Like in the cage, Like I was curious to see how it felt when you were in there?

Speaker 4:

Well, like towards the first, then I started getting more confidence. I think that's why in the second round I was so right here where I am. But like going into that fight, I thought she was bigger than me, like I don't, I didn't think I had a muscle. We're looking at pictures and he's sending me photos from previous and I was like I don't know she's got. Like look at those lines and like Body dysmorphia.

Speaker 1:

I think is what comes to mind here.

Speaker 3:

No, it's just wild. It's just wild. Yeah, it's part of the process now.

Speaker 4:

But when she was.

Speaker 3:

I suspect it will come every time.

Speaker 4:

But then when she was on me, she's nothing like the boys, so nothing.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 4:

And I was like, oh, you're so light. But then again, some of the guys I train with, I feel I apparently think I'm six feet tall and Can confirm Mm-hmm. Yeah, and some of the guys I think are the same weight as me.

Speaker 1:

Rich. Nobody is 170. No, nobody, I'm probably the closest, I'm 170.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, so you would be, yeah.

Speaker 2:

But you have glass knees.

Speaker 1:

Well, somebody broke my knee shortly into this camp and wrecked me for the whole thing.

Speaker 2:

I was just making you smile. Yeah, that worked.

Speaker 1:

Great job, I think it did.

Speaker 2:

I wasn't the gym a lot, but like, not in the other the mats which I'm hoping to get back to you.

Speaker 1:

I was going to come this morning, but then I really we're going to Mexico next week and I'm like if I hurt myself before Mexico.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, you don't want to hurt yourself.

Speaker 1:

So I'm going to wait till I get back from Mexico.

Speaker 3:

That's a good idea. And then come back, and you better come back.

Speaker 4:

I'm coming back.

Speaker 1:

I got my knee braces now.

Speaker 2:

The anaconda, the anaconda, hey you know what.

Speaker 3:

Everybody needs a break.

Speaker 1:

Uh-huh.

Speaker 3:

Right, the fighter needs a break, but the team needs a break to like recover from injuries.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, 100%.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

The only people that get injured.

Speaker 1:

Which is good. I'd rather that the training partners get injured than the person who's actually doing it professionally 100%.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

I'll get injured every day it's fine.

Speaker 2:

I was watching Sambo videos while I was waiting for my plane. Today, I'm just excited to do some Sambo in the off season.

Speaker 1:

I'm pissed that I missed the knife jitsu.

Speaker 2:

That was the best that was by far. Those are good videos.

Speaker 4:

That was the worst one, but yeah, you were really quite bad at it.

Speaker 2:

You would definitely die first.

Speaker 3:

But no, that's that's. This is still not Shannon.

Speaker 2:

Like that's.

Speaker 3:

Shannon, that's not like fight nice Shannon. No, that's not shark eyes, that's a good one.

Speaker 1:

I like that you should change your, your. Have you thought about changing your name? Finn said at the Barbie.

Speaker 4:

I never came up with that name.

Speaker 1:

Who came up?

Speaker 4:

with that my friend Mel Okay.

Speaker 1:

Well, it should be sharp eyes. I've never actually people.

Speaker 4:

They put that all over social media. So now it's stuck, but like I never came up with, that At this point I think, like Shannon the bulldog clerk.

Speaker 1:

Ooh, I like that, or shark eyes, or shark eyes, yeah.

Speaker 3:

Shannon Clark, just that. Cause you're not a Barbie.

Speaker 4:

It's kind of ridiculous Actually though we got shuttled from the airport to the hotel.

Speaker 4:

Oh, yeah, yeah, we come with two suitcases and two small, like two checked ones, and then two small ones. Well, the one small one is just the heating blankets, like shoved in there, and then one of the big ones is just my weight cutting clothes, so that's not really like my clothes and stuff. And the other one we wouldn't even need but we take it because it's like mouth guard or like fight clothes or like pads that you need, so you can't lose it. And the other ones checked for, like any of the other stuff. So we have four suitcases, but it's not like we need them all. And the shuttle guy is like wow, aren't you high maintenance? Wow, and he said that probably four times about how.

Speaker 4:

I'm the most high maintenance person. I'm just like I'm really not, I'm sorry. Okay, no, I'm sorry.

Speaker 3:

I think that would be a good time to explain your van story in Vale. I think you should. Shannon to prove that you're not so high maintenance these fellows was. They'd probably find it entertaining.

Speaker 1:

What'd you do? I don't know anything about.

Speaker 3:

Vale Curtis doesn't know.

Speaker 1:

Do you know I might have heard it, but I'd like to hear it again.

Speaker 3:

You probably forgot because it was a long time ago, so you should help us out.

Speaker 2:

So there you were in Vale Colorado, so Vale Colorado.

Speaker 1:

LFA 170.

Speaker 3:

So we're in. We're in. Okay, a little bit of a backstory. We're maybe two and a half hours wait at airport for the vehicle to pick us up.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

So like that's lots of time to do things right. Yeah, that's a lot of time Like you could do a lot in two and a half hours Do a lot Like drive to Calgary.

Speaker 2:

You could almost run a marathon. Ooh, good point, some people could yeah.

Speaker 3:

So back to our, with some guys that don't speak English.

Speaker 4:

They're from Brazil.

Speaker 3:

They're from Brazil, and in the van we go and we go on to a car ride that's just shy of two hours and partway through the trip.

Speaker 4:

I really had to pee Really bad and I'm in the back and then Joel's sitting like in the seat in front of me, kind of thing, and I was like I tap on it, joel, I'm like I have to pee, like. I don't know what to do. And then the other people are talking and like the guy driving works with LFA and stuff like this and I was like and I Google like maps on how to get there and it's all freeway, Like we're talking like four lanes aside, like a big one, right, oh wow.

Speaker 4:

And I'm sitting and I'm just like, oh, I don't know. And like 10 more minutes goes by. He's like, well, can you hold it? And I was like I've been trying. So then I like contemplate because I'm like my shaker's there, but it's my rough rider one. So I was like I can't pee in that, can't soil that. But I was like yes, but I was actually like gonna pee in it.

Speaker 1:

But then I was like oh, and then I was like if I actually pee my pants.

Speaker 4:

Would it stink?

Speaker 1:

And I'm contemplating oh wow, because I was like I don't know what we're going to do. And I asked him and I'm like what do I do?

Speaker 4:

Do I pee in here? Do I pee myself? Like what are we going to do? Like I'm about to burst off. So then he's like what do you want to stop? And I'm like, well, like I don't know, I feel so bad. And so then we tell him to stop and then they're like, okay, yeah, we'll find a stop, like a place for you. And then a few minutes goes by and I was like, no, like they really have to say pulled over on the side of the freeway and I get out. And I was like okay, like just right here. But then it says Vans was a sliding door. So I used the guy in the front seat and I was like I'm sorry, I need this to hold on please. And I'm trying to like hold on there. And the guy's just like, ah, look away.

Speaker 2:

Look away, she gets out.

Speaker 3:

She just like grabs his door for like a shield or whatever. He just looks at me. The other Brazilian looks at me. Their eyes are just wide, they look. And then the guy that could speak English to the front was like huh, I'll bolt the trees.

Speaker 2:

I'm like sorry, Canadian.

Speaker 1:

That's amazing.

Speaker 4:

Sorry, sorry.

Speaker 3:

And then after that, every time we saw them around the event they were like high five or exchange my shirt with the coach of that fighter after the thing. So yeah, and then they're actually not high maintenance.

Speaker 4:

I was going to say they're the ones they were in line for when I did the 40 take thing and I was like I can pee in front of you boys, I just can't talk, Apparently. That's amazing.

Speaker 1:

I know your pain. I was once in a pub crawl at the Stampede in Calgary and we were on a bus between two bars and I had that same problem. I had to pee and it had to happen. And I started thinking, okay, what are my options here? Do I just hang it out the side of the window or down going down McLeod trail in Calgary and just let it rip? Or I was like, all right, I can just pee on the floor. And if I pee on the floor it'll probably just like slightly roll up the front. Half the people are drunk. They probably wouldn't even notice I'm having the. And then I'm like, yeah, can you guys stop the bus? We're in the middle of McLeod. They're like, no, we're not stopping the bus. And somehow I ended up baking it to the parking lot. I jumped out and just peed in the parking lot, but I was contemplating every possible option. Do I just pee myself, Do I not? Do I?

Speaker 2:

It's not very fun. I have never considered pee myself. No Well, especially like we have the benefit of being able to like go in a lot of places I disagree.

Speaker 1:

But what do you do if you're in a vehicle with a whole bunch of people?

Speaker 2:

Is that vehicle a tank?

Speaker 1:

It was a school bus full of like a hundred people. I roll a window deck and just pee on the car and you're driving past on the pow-trail yes. I was close, but I wasn't quite there, yeah.

Speaker 3:

You just asked them to stop, nicely, I tried and they wouldn't do it. And you pee and you make friends along the way.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah that your story is pretty hilarious, though Not much of a Brazilian, not directly pee related, but I have a new appreciation for people that have to like manage, like kids diapers on airplanes. Ah I tried to change it. I had to change a diaper today in an airplane bathroom.

Speaker 1:

Oh wow, it was not easy. No kidding, is there like a little table that pops down like everything? Okay?

Speaker 2:

But it's like this big she's probably like what are you? Doing Folded in half and like ah.

Speaker 1:

Nice, okay, you got it done, though I was like an expert.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so you know how many diapers I've changed in the last five months. Like two, like 37. Okay.

Speaker 1:

And the funny part is, before you guys had the kid you thought you were going to go the what are the kind of the reusable type.

Speaker 2:

Oh my God, yeah, that would have been awful.

Speaker 1:

We were down the same mindset when we had our first kid. We're like, yeah, we bought some reusable diapers on Amazon, thinking we're going to be healthy for the environment and do this. And like the first one, we're like, yeah this is not happening. So we had like 20 reusable diapers that we just literally didn't use. So we wasted more than we actually helped the environment.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, did not happen. As one does when they try and save the environment, it's like it's like artificial Christmas trees are actually worse for the environment than just whacking down a tree. Yeah, that makes sense.

Speaker 1:

It's a stat right there. Did you know?

Speaker 2:

Did you know? Google it. So, like what's the plan for the off season? Is there an off season?

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I think right now is an off season.

Speaker 1:

I'm surprised. I'm surprised you weren't there this morning.

Speaker 4:

To be honest, yeah, I had an appointment at the hospital this morning. I would have been there, but I was supposed to, so I'm there Thursday.

Speaker 1:

Hmm, so not really an off season, just like light training.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, like have fun.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, like knife chit-soo.

Speaker 2:

Got that.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, like she's not going to try to injure anyone, perfect.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I don't know. You guys are safe for a couple of weeks.

Speaker 1:

Is there? So we don't if there, obviously we can't talk about things that aren't for sure. But like, is there any thoughts on what's next? Like just defending the belt, or we thinking maybe something else, or we don't have a clue.

Speaker 4:

I'm not sure.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, no, I have no idea what we're just going to see what's offered and what comes. I think so.

Speaker 4:

And if it is being offered like I don't even know, do we have a timeline Like, when do we have a goal?

Speaker 3:

I don't know. When we left there, they were obviously super happy and right. Their manager asked or their VP? Whatever that he is, I think he's the VP matchmaker. He asked if he could reach out to the UFC and stuff. So I mean, yeah, maybe who knows what the answer would be I love the one question, that one, not podcast.

Speaker 1:

you did the video one he asked about. Like well, you know you're training with a bunch of dudes in a basement. Would you consider, like you know, moving to a camp? You're like nope, just immediate Like nope. He's like, yeah, what's she going to do? Like root up her whole family for this thing that she just likes to do? I mean, obviously he doesn't know you, but that is just a funny question.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, everyone thinks this is like my goal in life, but it's like no, I just don't want to lose.

Speaker 1:

Do you think that makes? Do you think that makes girls more pissed off?

Speaker 4:

I don't know if I really know, but how could it not? All these girls are trying to make it to the UFC and it's like I just keep brushing their dreams by accident. By accident, totally on purpose, but like I'm just really competitive, like I don't care if I make it or if I don't make it. I just would like to retire when I'm not on the loss.

Speaker 2:

But that is, that is the path to success. Like happiness, success happiness is just having fun.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Enjoying the other ones I don't want to like fight because it's fun, and when it stops being fun I'll stop fighting. But that's interesting.

Speaker 1:

So we literally talked about this last podcast. Like the like, finding enjoyment in the effort of the thing, not having like the end goal of like whatever UFC or whatever the championship at UFC. That's not the goal. The goal is just you like doing it, which is like literally happiness. It's like finding pleasure in the day to day grind that you love doing, like, and that's without the goal being the thing. It ends up being more satisfying than finding a goal, attaining it and being like oh, now what?

Speaker 4:

Well, yeah, and I mean we're like we're coming down where I'm not going to be fighting much longer. But I said to him I was like, well, if I don't get off at the next level, like, do we defend it even, like, is there a point in defending?

Speaker 1:

it.

Speaker 4:

Like every fight so far, has been bigger than the previous one like a point right. So it's like we're going to go sideways, then If you're defending it, it's the same thing and it's like, well, how many more times do you do that?

Speaker 1:

That right.

Speaker 4:

So plus all the training partners, how many more times I can't do it without them and you can't do it at all. The amount of times I've tried to make a point to get that across. Maybe one of these times someone will pick up who the freaking training partners are In any interview. I'm just like who do you want to think? And it's like no one freaking releases that because they're not MMA fighters.

Speaker 4:

I know, but like every time I'm just like, hey, I want to say thank you, but like I would not be here if it wasn't for Joel at all and the training was like that's the biggest group and if they don't put in the camp with me, I'd quit too right, I think there has to be like one More, regardless of its LFA or or a UFC fight.

Speaker 3:

Right, I wouldn't rush to go do it and I would want to do it somewhere where, like people Could attend. Yeah, because I think Winner lose in that fight. It would be Even more satisfying at the end if all your train, as many of your training partners or your friends that you're still in touch With, we're there for you to go watch it. That's like this is the only thing that's missing. It's like it's weird because there's only four of us. That, or five? No, how many, I can't count five.

Speaker 4:

No plus me and you a seven, there's seven of us total.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, they went there.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, but I didn't know that other guy, he doesn't know, yeah, so like there's only six people there to watch, like, just like an unbelievable experience.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and it feels like which is kind of like like lonely or kind of like you're missing out.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, like it has for like this fight. I was trying to post as much as I could from the locker room which I never generally did. I mean, obviously I didn't have to do the warm-up, so that super helps, but it's like you want, from a coaching perspective like to, for you guys to be able to see it.

Speaker 3:

Yeah the whole thing would be really cool when, I lose because it's it's a whole team effort, right, and I'd like nobody can chase this forever and there's no point to do it for like five years and yeah, that way. But it would be cool If there was one more where everybody was there or as many people that could make it happen, because it's pretty cool to see like your friend being treated that way, right, like Everybody's so kind to her and everybody had good words to say about her and just like to see her be able to do all that things.

Speaker 2:

That'd be cool for other people to be in and see that right mm-hmm, you know, yeah, and like LFA is like legit right, like just you're right that production of the whole start to finish.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, like if there was even which I didn't know at the time, well, I don't really know, you see, by people, but there was like even UFC people in the crowd and I was just like whoa.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah didn't know that well that that Joe guy with the nice hair, he he fought in the UFC here, I think the announcer, the announcer.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, oh yeah, and there was Macheter was the?

Speaker 3:

was the Portuguese broadcasts one of the broadcast guys, and then Rashad Evans was a corner. Oh wow, for the main event really there.

Speaker 1:

So yeah, like we just be cool for like for you guys to see well, and for because I talked to Mark and For a title.

Speaker 4:

You can have four corners.

Speaker 1:

Oh well so.

Speaker 4:

I would Load that thing up as much as possible.

Speaker 1:

Well, I can promise you that if you end up in Vegas or somewhere, actually anywhere if you end up at the UFC I've already told my wife I'm going, so doesn't matter where it is- one to be fair.

Speaker 2:

We did look at flights.

Speaker 1:

We did look at a.

Speaker 2:

I broke you and then I fell apart and then, yeah, what's tough happened.

Speaker 1:

But like yeah, if you were like this is my last fight, I'll go defend, like say you give sees like now we were not interested, or whatever happens, and you're like, okay, I'm gonna defend this thing, and then that might be it.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, yeah, work doesn't matter where it is Summer warm, though, oh yeah.

Speaker 1:

Brazil. Well, that's, that seems a lot.

Speaker 3:

I don't know like, but it's cool to see you get there right in your pictures on the shirt and there's like that was there's and bedding bedding lines and you're like man. What a what are we living right now?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's awesome. Yeah, you, I saw you made some guy like like $400 or something like that.

Speaker 1:

I'm sure I saw him on Twitter, but he was like yeah, I made like $400. Really oh yeah, how much do you have to say who?

Speaker 4:

but I Debated betting one person I know made 3000 off me amazing. Someone made even more than that, I don't know where it is.

Speaker 2:

No, because somebody like what a family member of mine asked me. They're like, hey, you bet on this fight, and I was like I can't why, cuz I too much emotionally invested. I just can't.

Speaker 1:

I can't but like there was zero doubt in my mind she was gonna do 100 with.

Speaker 2:

Destroy that girl a small, tiny little sliver of me believes in like or something like that. Okay, I just can't fuck with the aura.

Speaker 4:

I got it, I'm universe, you just bad. Don't tell me though, no.

Speaker 2:

I can't cuz I would know, I just can't I can't.

Speaker 1:

yeah, he feel like I screwed that up. I did it, it's my fault.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I bet on it. I fucked everything.

Speaker 1:

That makes sense?

Speaker 3:

I guess not really but that's cool, right like so cool. So be. If there's one more chance for more people to experience the whole thing that comes with it, that would be awesome.

Speaker 4:

And then plus, it'd be fun to have more people there for weight cutting.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 4:

I guess I'm gonna talk to you.

Speaker 2:

Just like hotel room, where all things could happen.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, that'd be cool.

Speaker 1:

What is it you think? That's like you're saying there may be a couple more like you want to. You want to go up Potentially like as far as like the next experience. But like is it? Is it just the time and effort, the age, the way cutting? What is it the kind of limiting factor that's thinks you don't want to do it for much longer?

Speaker 4:

Um For one, the kids, they're gonna get older and busier. I already find that every fight camps getting harder because of how old they're getting. In you have to wait till they go to bed to finish everything in the day, or I have to get up early every day and it's just like they're draining cuz they're annoying.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 4:

Like it builds up, right, yeah, and the later they stay up and it's just like holy frick that. And then I know just, it's just a lot.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, well, for sure, I still with working full-time. Yeah, did you sleep? Do you get good sleep? Like what? Six hours, seven hours? What do you? What are you?

Speaker 4:

getting Okay, it's not bad. Yeah, I just do what you do now you're doing.

Speaker 1:

I'm like, are you sleeping like five hours a night and just pushing through?

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I just, I just don't have, I'm just very scheduled, yeah, literally like I schedule in my pee, almost.

Speaker 1:

You are, you don't apparently but it makes sense.

Speaker 2:

Like you are like a black and white numbers person. Yeah, like that's that, which probably benefits you in getting that schedule to work.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, right, not for a lot of people. Yeah, for sure a lot of people would not be okay with this lifestyle. But a lot of people, even in my life, are not good with it it's just literally me but we make it work and yeah yeah, it's worth it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, obviously I mean the works there. Yeah, yeah, interesting. I found a funny. You said you don't know EFC people because that was one of the questions that the guy. The guy was like the interview I saw he was asking you like well, who, who would be a girl that you'd want to fight? And he's naming all these names and I could just see on your face. You had no clue who he was talking about. He was like listing all of them.

Speaker 1:

Yeah he was listing, like names of girls that were currently in that way to watch at. You see, and I could see in your. It was just like there's like yeah, I don't know whichever I'm like, I don't think she knows single one of those girls.

Speaker 3:

No, we were watched that last pay-per-view. Yeah, and after she left, Jake looked at me. It's like yeah she really doesn't know what she's watching. Like no, he's. Like yeah, she knows less than me, that's amazing.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, she could kick your ass, that's awesome, but you don't get lost in like the. Yeah, you just fucking do the noise out and do the thing that you want to do and whatever happens happen.

Speaker 1:

I just think you, I think you just need to unapologetically, unapologetically, you just be that, though, like in interviews and stuff. He should just told like I yeah, I don't know who any of those people are, and then, like he said, I get pissed more people off who are like striving so hard to get To this position. You're like I just won the belt.

Speaker 4:

I don't really know for my last, well, one of my interviews for this past fight. The guy was like okay, so like, who are your role models? I had to Google girls, oh, and I don't know if it was last the one before that, denver. I said a girl's name and I'm like Do you mean like Kayla Harrison? Because she's this? Whoever I said isn't a mom, and I'm like that's amazing. Oh yeah, yeah, I was gonna say her and I just didn't delete the name. I don't know anyone.

Speaker 3:

That's not bad, though I think you know makes it part of what it makes it all work right for sure is that it's not, it's just completely lost.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, like there's.

Speaker 2:

But it's and it's not like you're, like they're like oh name, like a fighter, or like list off the names of fighters and be like I don't know who, any of those girls.

Speaker 1:

He's just like.

Speaker 2:

I don't know who they are.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's not like yeah it depends on how you say it, I guess. Right, like not fuck those girls, I don't know them. It's just like I literally don't watch the sport other than I just like doing it like I don't know these people.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, and the other is my.

Speaker 1:

Even recognized names is because Joel talk about them but right or you guys that training, but like, besides that I don't know how you find out, you're fighting them, and then you go down the rabbit hole of Finding out everything about them.

Speaker 4:

I can do that part About the non-famous people right, all the girls in my way.

Speaker 1:

But no, well, I don't know who are those two guys that were there.

Speaker 4:

They said the Yoda, machita and Rashad Evans okay, I think it was that second one, evans boy, and yeah, just a former headway, but I think he was talking was. He was the one that was talking to me about my muscles, right yeah, and he was like okay and like good luck or whatever. And I said I was like I don't know if you're a fighter, I don't know what to say. You too, which one is he's he the main event? Is he like all this? I?

Speaker 4:

So like it's the worst, cuz they'll say like, hey, good job out there, good luck. And then I said in the Joel's like I don't know if they fought, like what do I say bad?

Speaker 1:

That's amazing.

Speaker 4:

So they just sound like a bitch cuz you're just like thanks, but like I don't know, yeah, like I just feel so bad, and then I'm usually just like okay.

Speaker 2:

I think you just go, you too, yeah, you just confused everybody.

Speaker 1:

Do you know what you know? Like you got to know something. Just be you know GSP, like would you know him if you saw him?

Speaker 4:

Okay, that's a no that should be an easy. Yeah, hold on.

Speaker 1:

George St Pierre.

Speaker 4:

Yes, um, no, I probably wouldn't recognize him. Who I recognize Name wise is could be right. Kayla Harrison. I think I'd recognize her Um Dakota girl. She's not the OC, but I know her.

Speaker 1:

Who she is, she fights in the PFL Europe. What about Rhonda Rousey?

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I recognize her. Okay, Holly Holmes Okay.

Speaker 1:

Cyborg.

Speaker 2:

Amanda Nunez.

Speaker 4:

I don't know if I've recognized her. You didn't even recognize John Jones.

Speaker 1:

Oh, my god no.

Speaker 4:

I've never yeah.

Speaker 1:

No.

Speaker 3:

And she didn't know who GSP was. When they gave you your homework, he said who's the like, the Canadian guy that?

Speaker 4:

was really good yeah.

Speaker 3:

I was like how's she like the really good Canadian guy.

Speaker 4:

That was actually. That's probably all the ones I've heard of, and no.

Speaker 1:

And.

Speaker 4:

Connor. Oh, oh yeah, connor, because he's so funny.

Speaker 1:

I am so looking forward to that movie, the remake of Road, house Road. House. Have you seen the preview for that. Okay, do you know the movie Road House, the old one.

Speaker 4:

Do you watch movies? That's a I sometimes.

Speaker 3:

I don't know, that's not cool they remade that show.

Speaker 1:

I agree, but it looks amazing. It looks amazing. No, it does Gyllenhaal and Connor McGregor, and I think it's going to be amazing.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I'm here for it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I know it's sacrilege, but I'm here for it.

Speaker 1:

So there's an old movie called the Road House. It's made in the 70s 70s, maybe early 80s, 80s, swazie.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, patrick Swazie, it was not the 70s.

Speaker 1:

Is it the 80s?

Speaker 3:

Well, yeah, if it was the 70s, I would have been able to watch it when I was a kid. I'm not that old.

Speaker 1:

All right, I know, anyway, and it was Well, it was good then I would. I'm going to go on Limousay. Watching it now is difficult because it's so cheesy, but the new one's going to be awesome. The new one's going to be awesome, yeah, connor McGregor's in it, anyway, sidebar.

Speaker 2:

Connor McGregor loses that fight. Yeah, shocker Weird.

Speaker 3:

So that's the list of people she knows.

Speaker 1:

Good, Now we've got that figured out. So anyone listening to this who's going to interview Shannon in the future, just don't ask because she doesn't know. But much like why lie about it? Just say I'm sorry, I don't know.

Speaker 4:

Because I just feel like it comes across as so mean that I don't know, who they are.

Speaker 2:

So I feel so bad.

Speaker 3:

If you guys are like at Like, especially the last two ones, because it's bigger she's just so much different than everybody there.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that makes sense.

Speaker 3:

They live and breathe it. Yeah, it's just like.

Speaker 2:

When your whole identity is just this like amalgamation of I'm a fighter and I'm all about fighting, yada, yada, yada, it can't be healthy. I get it, it makes you great athletes for some people, but when all it's like the people that we work with, when you change professions, when you leave the nursing home and suddenly your identity just fucking disappears and you have nothing left.

Speaker 1:

But it's interesting because, like that idea of balance, those high like performing athletes have no balance in life. It's the thing they do, like Michael Jordan he basketball, that was it. So there's no balance. When they say, oh, you should have balanced your life, well it's cool. But if you're like excellent and you want to excel at one specific thing, most of the people don't have that, it's the opposite of that. And then it's like somebody who actually is fairly balanced in your life and scheduled because you have to be balanced. And then you show it up and you feel like, oh, this is different, this is weird, it's just funny.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, and then people who don't actually know me 99% of the people there they're just like, talk to me and it's just like, like, like. It's like what the fuck are you talking about? I'm so sorry. And then he has to like whisper in my ear or he has to be like okay, that was this person. Or like this person fought, this person.

Speaker 1:

Like you got it All right, and I'm just like you need one of those hidden mics in your ear and you should just always be on comms.

Speaker 3:

In her panel interview she asked if I can answer questions. He's like sure I tried to explain to him, but that's funny.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I definitely need to.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you can just eat comms, summon it in your ear the whole time.

Speaker 2:

Until it stops working halfway through.

Speaker 1:

That's Rashad, that's Rashad.

Speaker 2:

Oh hey, Rashad, Good to see you yeah.

Speaker 4:

Except I'd still mess up the names Rashid.

Speaker 1:

Hey, rashid, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4:

I think I met him three times. That like for sure talk.

Speaker 1:

That's cool.

Speaker 4:

And every time I was like, okay, so what fight are he? Or I went upstairs or whatever and I was like there was a guy meditating and that's who I needed to. I was trying to be in his skin because I was like, freaking out, I'm sitting there like against the wall, like scared to death, that we're about to fight and it's like in the meeting At the rules meeting yeah.

Speaker 4:

And then he's someone sitting there and I'm like, okay, just pretend like you're meditating. I don't do that, obviously, but I'm just like. And then I start shaking again in between breaths, and apparently it was that guy, right.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 4:

And then I thought he was a fighter and I'm just like I've met him three times now and I still don't know his face.

Speaker 3:

He was impressed with his. She couldn't believe a fighter would just be able to do that and I'm like okay, Because he's the corner guy. Yeah, he's actually not fighting today.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and Leota Machida. So you don't know Leota Machida or John Jones, but that is one of the most brutal chokas I've ever seen. John Jones chokes out Leachida standing.

Speaker 3:

Actually today, because John Jones made a comment about her choke.

Speaker 1:

Oh really, yeah, oh, that's amazing.

Speaker 3:

I think he said what everything about that video bothers me, or something.

Speaker 1:

And then some guy replied this, coming from the guy that did that to Leota Machida yeah yeah, he did a standing guilty and then just let's go and like it bounces head off the mat. It was like it's brutal. Yeah, that was a good joke, but I think yours is better. It's 100% choke of the year. I've already said that on an. Lfa post. Yeah, it's like what are we doing here? It doesn't matter, I know it's February, whatever.

Speaker 2:

How would one like a defend, like would you just have to stand, try and stand up to get that, to get out of that? Like, what do you?

Speaker 1:

Out of the bulldog. Yeah, oh, we don't want to talk about it because we don't want to no.

Speaker 4:

no, that's totally fine. Can I go over?

Speaker 1:

here. Oh my God, we have to pee, yeah, 100%.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, just put it in the bottle. Take your headphones off In your upright or bottle.

Speaker 1:

Don't be sorry, just straight there. Yeah, we just basically try to get that. Make sure that leverage of pulling them back in your neck somehow, I'm assuming.

Speaker 3:

I don't think you can fight the hands like you would in the other choke.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I don't think you're getting out of it. Well, yeah, I probably not.

Speaker 3:

I could tell you you're not getting out of hers, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I could get out of yours Try.

Speaker 2:

I'm just kidding, take that knee again.

Speaker 3:

But she's just as vicious enough to try it. That's what makes it funny. Yeah, right, yeah.

Speaker 2:

Well, I have to laugh because, like, the thing that's missed in maybe like the interviews, and is very evident in the fight is like there's just like a switch.

Speaker 3:

Yeah Right, like that's why I'll bring back, but I'll talk about it like with her here. Man, her fucking warmup was ridiculous.

Speaker 1:

Was it? Who was she warming up with this time?

Speaker 3:

It was just me and Brody Nice, and credit to him. He reached out and was like I need to know, Like I don't want to screw things up, right?

Speaker 3:

So the three of us got together. I planned out our warmup, wrote it all down. The three of us got together one day and, like, walked through it, like they had the book out, and said this is what you're going to do. This is how you're going to warm up. Yeah, then this like you're going to start with this and you're going to go to, like, when we do the running and the body weight movement. So you're going to go to that. Then you're going to do this. This is how you're warming up your neck with Brody. These are the 10 rounds you're doing with him and these positions on the ground. And so they repped all that out. And then I just held pads and then, at the very end, right before we go, let her beat me up like she did in the last two. Yeah, yeah, man, it was, it's like God, that's over with.

Speaker 2:

Well, I did. I do think like that was pretty evident in just the pace that are, like you know the energy that was there.

Speaker 3:

It was like Psychotic.

Speaker 1:

We're talking about you. It's okay to worry about it, not a big deal.

Speaker 2:

We're just glad you didn't have to pee in a jug.

Speaker 4:

I held it in as much as I could, though you know you're, you're amongst friends, you can speak up.

Speaker 3:

You don't need to hold it in.

Speaker 2:

The podcast will go on.

Speaker 3:

You can cut me going. You just go, just go Okay.

Speaker 2:

Tell us about your warm up.

Speaker 4:

Um.

Speaker 1:

I warmed up Um yeah, it's just nice and calm, I'm assuming.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, was it not? Oh no, what did we say?

Speaker 3:

I don't know what did we say? I?

Speaker 4:

think it was fine. Good Good. As some people here know, I just like to beat people up a bit.

Speaker 2:

You came out very much, not this person as a, as a different person, which we've seen in your previous fights, but this was the, the like, I don't want to say the fastest, because you just showed up that person this time right, Like usually I've noticed in some of your other fights, like a good punch in the face, really like flips a switch for you.

Speaker 4:

Or is this?

Speaker 2:

time like I guess Joel just punched you in the face a few times before we got out there, there was a slap.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, there was a couple of slaps. I definitely know that's not a joke. There was at least one.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I um. Yeah, I don't know. I just told myself that like I'm not losing in front of my friends and family, kind of deal. I remember that. And then I remember it in the cage though, at least. Um, well, frank, first the camera's in your face and you're like what do you?

Speaker 1:

look Shit, I hate it.

Speaker 4:

Turns out, she's like smiling and all this stuff, but like I don't know. So I'm just staring off in a place and I'm just like still looking at me. What do I do? I was like, oh, I hate that and it's like why is it right?

Speaker 1:

there. Yeah, I'm just gonna do it by hands.

Speaker 4:

I just, oh, I hate that. And then, um, and then when we're looking, she's like all like happens and I'm going to punch that.

Speaker 1:

I was so mad.

Speaker 4:

I was like stop acting like you're excited for this, you're not going to wait. I was so mad at that. Or if you're winning, it's because I'm going to punch you at least. So that kind of like got me really mad and going out there. Then there's also, like people that like to do high fives and it's like I don't know how to be rude and not high five them. So you high five them and you're just like off. I'm trying to walk to the cage and it turns out they told you to go slow. I thought I went slower to the cage.

Speaker 3:

They told you to go slow. They told you to stand at the X, take your time and take it all in, or something like that. So we take my time was taking like 20 seconds just to get out there.

Speaker 4:

And then I was doing that and you see the video of them running after me to tell me.

Speaker 1:

It's awesome.

Speaker 4:

But like there's, that.

Speaker 1:

I thought the walk up video, the walk up part, was awesome. Like you just looked determined I mean, that was on your face. You're just like, oh, she's going to screw this girl up. Like you just looked like you were good to go, which, again I think like echoing what Curtis said. Like some of the other ones, you were like you're just not quite there yet.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, no, I think, while we've determined that I need to beat people up to get me warmed up for sure, and so like more ready to go two weeks ago than you've ever been for sure.

Speaker 3:

I've been told that day that the one day I rolled with you you were doing stuff. I was like, oh good Lord, so good. And then I think it was the next day you would Dave. You manhandled him that one round.

Speaker 2:

You were there for that, right. Yeah yeah, that was the best grappling I'd see Like legit.

Speaker 3:

You, legitimately, were manhandling him and I was like, oh, good Lord, this is like again. You just hate being cocky, but it was after that and I'm like, oh, this is going to be, and that's the thing, though, is such a beating.

Speaker 2:

You have to go in with confidence in whatever you're doing in life right. You have to have confidence.

Speaker 3:

But it's so weird, like you can't show it even amongst us most times when you talk, but like you can feel it, and you can feel it the last couple of days you trained. You're like oh God, and before too, you've never really like I said I want to hurt her, oh yeah that's nice and this when you're like, like I'm going to tanya her, I think that's what, that's what, I'm going to hurt her. She's like I'm going to tanya her and I'm like, oh man, well, and I'm so angry.

Speaker 4:

Back to that panel talk that we had when they were just like, look what's your game plan? And then I was like I don't think I had one. I don't think because I was like how do you say I don't know, I just want to beat the shit out of her. You could say that, but I don't know what I ended up saying, but, like we know, that was my game plan. And then what do you say? From any position, I don't care, I really just wanted to kill her Like.

Speaker 3:

I just was like he almost did and it was like that throughout the whole the whole time we were there, except for then you obviously you're really crazy nerves come in and you're like, oh my God, she's so big and she's not.

Speaker 2:

She's not, and then you get over that and then, like in the locker room like.

Speaker 3:

That's why the part I wish I could videotape is to like when you go, it's just in stages, like you do your music and you're still your goofy you. And then, like the hand wraps, come on and you just about have a breakdown. Oh gosh, like in veil, you were just literally like shaking. So she was shaking with this one and the guys like I'm glad you're not my heart surgeon and it's you know and this one you're a little bit better, but then you're as you can.

Speaker 3:

You get so nervous and you're like you need to stand right there. I'm like what? Just like stand right there, I can't see in that room, because she's in that room and then just to see as it goes and goes and goes and like the time they tape your gloves on, you're like, oh good Lord, and like usually you just walk right out into the dressing room like right out, right, but this one they made it was a pretty long walk.

Speaker 4:

Like through the kitchen.

Speaker 3:

A couple minutes worth A couple minutes to an elevator to go up because the fight thing was on the second floor, right. So we get there and we're like what we're up? And they're like, no, you're staging. And it was partway through the other guys fight. It was in the second round.

Speaker 4:

Oh, okay, and it went the full. Thing.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and so we're right behind the curtain where she walks out standing there for the rest of that guy's fight in his interview and she is just like going crazy.

Speaker 2:

Was that John Taylor that fought before you?

Speaker 3:

I think it was that one.

Speaker 2:

That was a good fight.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and she is just bouncing all over the back Punching my hands, kicking. I was like, oh man, I started laughing and I thought this is psychotic, like completely gone, and I was like, oh, this girl's going to get run through. She has no idea what's going on. What's going on with that and it sounds so arrogant to say, right, but you're like that's, that's brody. I was like she has no idea. This is insane Like this is going. It was at least 45 minutes of you bouncing around punching grappling, kicking nonstop.

Speaker 3:

You couldn't, you could not stop. You're just like pacing, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, like holy good Lord, I would be tired already.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you look so fresh. Even after the first round you were super fresh and the girl was dripping sweat Like dripping.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I am during warmup. They're just kept at it being like so how do you feel I was like? Well, I'm not as tired as last fight, so that's exciting. I kept saying I got lots of energy, but oh yeah, I looked over at one.

Speaker 3:

I was on my phone, which is cool. I couldn't have to do that much for the warmup. Let's go over and show four armors, just right in the Adam's apple.

Speaker 4:

Face is red yeah.

Speaker 3:

Face is red, the fade in the middle of the forehead. I'm like ooh.

Speaker 4:

Some people have felt that here, but Ooh, that's nasty.

Speaker 3:

And even that, like you see, the other people warm up and it's not this, even the same planet.

Speaker 4:

You watch?

Speaker 3:

them and you're just like, are we missing something? Like, are we the like? We're the only ones that warm up that I've seen. I actually seen one guy in unified these from Vancouver I think pretty sure it was Tristan. I think that he had fought in UFC. His camera was last time. His warmup was pretty crazy. Yeah, they were full on throwing throwing punches and I was at the time I was like, oh, that's nuts. But now that I see that that's what she needs, I'm like, well, this is what we need, right, it makes no sense and is probably like not right thing to do, but it's like, well, if you need to go, just give her.

Speaker 2:

I feel like having like Just from the outside looking in, it'd be hard to if you don't warm up like that, you really have to like you're kind of behind the power curve for the first minute right yeah, like at least this way you can come and be like, yeah, okay, I got the pace, like I know, kind of you know I'm gonna be throwing hard right off the bat and yeah, especially for you.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, you need that. Well, there was um oh, people warming up beforehand and I think she like need the coach or something.

Speaker 3:

Oh, yeah, yeah and he was so mad, oh no no, she, she did a takedown and they just give you really crappy like one roll out with those roll out mats. Yeah and she did a double leg with the trip. But he, she knocked them right off the mat and he smashed his head on the ground like it would have heard yeah, it would have heard, no doubt, and he was mad. A and then they apologize, whatever it should have is like.

Speaker 4:

That's nothing when I've done to my corner boys like I beat them literally, cut their lips, I make them bleed like this is nothing and I was like okay, well that's each their own, I guess. Yeah, I was like thank God, mine don't get mad at me because whoa.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it's. It's not a sport for the faint-hearted sometimes is there anybody in that division that's?

Speaker 1:

I've asked you because I know you don't know is there. Do you know, is there anyone in that division that's like has a chance? Because I Looking like, looking at some of the things, I'm like I don't see anybody in this who's gonna be up to the other.

Speaker 3:

I don't know, like, where they pick people from.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I mean obviously right kind of comes from everywhere.

Speaker 3:

Obviously there's people their styles out there. That would give her problems right now right, right there, I mean that's. You have to be honest. There's certain styles that would Be like a whole new problem for her to solve which would be good, but, like I think the girl that was a champion before her, yeah, would have been a really Interesting thing to see how it played out and where'd she go?

Speaker 3:

She just went up a way class apparently. Oh, but there's, yeah, like there's definitely. There's some strikers out there that would be like a good you know if you want to see how good you are. There'd be some of those matchups out there, but I don't know like where they would pull them from, or right.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I guess that's kind of the thing about that LFA in general is they kind of pull from everywhere just to get see what's going on with people, but also being that being it like kind of is a gigantic feed link for the UFC and so many people have left you LFA. I went to UFC so Interesting.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I kind of went down the rabbit hole on Instagram or the last couple days and I didn't realize how many leagues there are. There's like hundreds and hundreds and it's like some of them are like fucking Bob's backyard brawl.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, she get that belt. Actually that thing weighs more than that this one.

Speaker 2:

It's just like two by fours and rusty nails there's some fucking bushly but there is a lot yeah but I feel like, like, for this level, fighting like Invicta, lfa, like PGF, which isn't quite the same, but like there's not that many, like I don't even know PGF is, I have PGF Professional grappling, I think this.

Speaker 2:

but I don't think there's any striking a come out like I don't know, I'm kind of I am also like Shannon, like I like watching fights, but like I couldn't name a whole bunch of shit. Yeah, I'm people that are walking encyclopedias, like you're kind of a walking encyclopedia a little bit of what fighting people.

Speaker 3:

Like you, just I don't have much of a life.

Speaker 4:

So makes him such a great coach.

Speaker 2:

It's like, it's like you in fucking movies, like I don't know where, like where do you put this information?

Speaker 1:

Do you? Such information stays in my head sometimes and then the stuff that I should know was not there, it's true.

Speaker 3:

You just listen. I know it's, I enjoy it. Yeah, it's a study. It it's almost turned into like a study thing now, as opposed to like actually cheering for people right outside of, like when Macachep fights. I don't like whatever. I just want to see what people are doing.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and the development. So I was watching. So ADCC had like their kid divisions, oh my god. So while some of these like 10 year olds grinned, grappling at like that level, at the highest level, it like doesn't even make sense how good they are, and you're like what is this gonna turn out to be in like eight years when they're Adults and they start competing in out divisions? Like just the evolution of some of those things are insane.

Speaker 2:

It's like every other sport where, like the top tier, athletes are just getting younger and younger.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

That like 18 to 25 range you know it's funny though, so this is interesting. So I I think I mean being said on your, your take on this because I think in general, kids are a lot less motivated to do things these days, given the internet and phones and all this other stuff. So there's the outliers, and there's always been outliers, for sure, at anything that you are good, really good, and have that motivation and drive to do things. But I think that's gonna be less and less and less as in less, something changes in the world with technology and all these things. Like I find with my kids it's.

Speaker 1:

It takes effort for me to motivate them to get to go do things that I think what it would just been second nature.

Speaker 1:

Like, hey, get go outside and play well, there's the TV right there in this video games and these all these things. And so trying to like model that in your own life of like Doing things, like working out whatever it, whatever it is, to show like you know, you need to be active in your life. But I don't know, like my kids are getting a bit older, you're a brand new one, yours are almost ones out of the house, almost right. But I think it's interesting because how, how do you, how do you motivate that at generation who? You see these outliers here Like that's impressive, but the vast majority of them aren't doing anything, like they're very much stuck at their head in their phones. I don't know if you see, like you feel like you're really good at like your example your kids are like Do you think your kids will be motivated to be more active because of what you do, or do you think about that at all? Or?

Speaker 4:

Um Well, so far my kids don't watch TV unless it's sports.

Speaker 1:

Yeah they. How old again?

Speaker 4:

two and three okay, yeah so, like they don't watch anything, they don't even go on my phone. If they see my phone, it's here, mom, and they pass me my phone.

Speaker 4:

They don't care that's awesome but like I have a really smart girl so she's obsessed with puzzles. She can do like like a 50 piece puzzle, learning and Memorizing, like today I taught her. I was like happy a JPPY. She said it right back, just like that. She's very smart and cares like she's already learning math. She's Practicing her writing. She's very smart and so he's trying to keep up with her right, but he likes to play like he's all about sports. I Don't think so far, yeah.

Speaker 3:

But she likes to go in the gym with you and she goes in the gym with me. They're both so they're following what you're doing. Yeah, I don't have time for TV.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, my TV is on a treadmill when I get to watch a show and that's how I get to Do all that. So yeah, they follow me, I'd say, but so far I think I won't have an issue with technology. They don't even I let them watch TV one time when we're driving somewhere like to Calgary or something, and they didn't even last five minutes and they're like no thanks. Oh, that's awesome, so I was like of course, that's the one time I'm like yeah, please watch something.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I was like stop talking, please.

Speaker 4:

I would like yeah but no. So so far I've been lucky where they don't care for technology, they don't care for Anything like that yet I mean, they're still really young, yeah. I know other people that have already, at three years old, develops that they want with the iPads already.

Speaker 1:

They don't know what to bet, and you do.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, no, I mean for mostly I'm such a mean mom, but I got her a peloton bike for her, so we do cardio together.

Speaker 1:

That's awesome.

Speaker 4:

I'll be on the treadmill and she's on her bike and I'm just like, okay, so actually I came home for my mom, or my mom had the kids over the week.

Speaker 4:

We're gone and I was like, oh, you guys ate a lot of it. Now it's like you look a little chump here and she's like she's like fight camp diet soon. Yes, honey, you're gonna be starting that real soon, just kidding. But yeah, they're very like they've never even. On one hand it's nice, but like they don't even know what bread is, because I don't eat bread right.

Speaker 4:

I have to be on such a strict diet. They like egg whites. They don't even really care for eggs anymore. It's just like Sorry, you guys are really missing. I, like my parents, will give them the junk food, but like I Mean and like to me, three is still really young, but like they've never had pop, their, their pop is they get juice. Yeah, so they get milk or water and then the odd-time juice, like they're very like healthy right and they love rice cakes.

Speaker 4:

Their chips they think is literally they're very and they get. It's not me trying to be, that's just what I eat, so they watch what I eat, right. Yeah and that's just what they're used to. So that's funny. I feel bad in a way and ketchup. The only the one likes ketchup.

Speaker 1:

It'll be interesting to see if, like once they go to school and they start kind of get around different peer group, how that changes or if it's like they're there It'll be interesting to see how they are with their peers. I mean yeah a couple more years. We're like more three more years before they're even in school potentially. But yeah, you'll be starting to home school and starting to train a little monster and the female in the May world.

Speaker 4:

Well, actually she's already decided what she wants to be. Today she told me for the first time she's like mom, I'm three, when I'm four, and then I'm five, and then she's like and I'm going to school, I'm gonna be a teacher. I was like why do you want to be a teacher? She's like because I want to tell people what to do because they're not behaving very well. But she's very like, they hate messes. Like they're like nope, there's a mess they won't eat. They have to. You have to clean the mess before they eat. Every time, like it's hilarious, like Kind of had cereal today he spilt his milk and he would not eat more until it's cleaned up. Like they are very.

Speaker 2:

How are you doing this? How are you running your?

Speaker 4:

Well, like I, like I just started potty training beginning of February and he's now like almost potty trained which guys are hard. But like it took her like Not even a month we potty trained. Now he's a one month and he's pretty good now.

Speaker 3:

That's how this Iron fast yeah when the one one eat and she just pounds the table one time.

Speaker 1:

Yeah that they mean you can't. I don't think you can teach anything better than leading by example. I mean that the kids are gonna fall. We fall to some degree with their parents doing. Obviously there's offshoots of that. But I mean, even your kids are obviously super athletic, joel, and. But I just find it interesting because I find my daughter Her peer group is like is so into the phones right now, like it's it, and it's driving me insane. I took a phone late tonight and I but I was just like good.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and, but it's just because I get such a all-consuming thing and it's hard, I will understand it. Like, look at, our phone usage is probably more than should be right. So it's, it's the weird thing, I don't know, struggling with the idea of that.

Speaker 2:

Well, I've actually noticed like my kid has no idea what a phone is, but when I'm holding it she's starting to go like this yeah, and I'm like, okay, I'm gonna start putting this fucking phone down, cuz they just draw you in.

Speaker 3:

That's okay. I played xbox with that was our quality time. You just sit there and I just play Xbox. Yeah perfect, don't cry. Please don't cry or let your mother see this. I'm playing Madden, I could see you playing baseball, yeah, baseball, yeah, a lot of baseball.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Nice, how many LFA asked you get while you were there? Any other LFA?

Speaker 1:

gear other than the belt a t-shirt Okay each Friday gets a t-shirt.

Speaker 4:

I didn't even look at the table.

Speaker 3:

I kind of has her picture on the back. Oh cool is like the list of all the people that fought.

Speaker 2:

Oh cool, I thought they'd give you like a whole bunch of swag, like that's a wicked ad.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, no, so I I got this. I asked him for it. After the fight I went back to us like, hey, buddy, he's a too late for me to buy a hat. They got it all boxed up right. It was the. It was the guy that drove the bus when we were in veil. Yeah he runs the merchandise table, so he recognized me and everything and he looked at me and he's like pick one, it's on me. And I was like, oh, I am taking the Brazil colored one for very Thank you yeah.

Speaker 1:

He's weird, it's. Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I'm with you you in a belt.

Speaker 4:

You're like here's some swagger.

Speaker 1:

Hey, can you rep LFA?

Speaker 4:

Here's a shirt. Here's some sweatpants.

Speaker 1:

Here's a hoodie here the hat, get a tattoo under a throat like whatever. Just wrap the kind of like the rep, the company, I don't know, it's weird yeah.

Speaker 4:

They probably look at my social media.

Speaker 1:

I feel like you're gonna be able to begin with that's good point.

Speaker 2:

You've done better and since like the fight, you've done really good Well that's other people posting. Yeah, she just keeps reposting every.

Speaker 1:

No, I don't even repost.

Speaker 4:

It just says to accept this yes and it automatically goes to your wall. I'll have to do is push yes, Okay.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, let's be real, is she's not making? I haven't done one thing.

Speaker 4:

Just yes, yes.

Speaker 2:

So if you're listening to this podcast and you have experience managing social media, which is it Shannon Clark at?

Speaker 1:

is it underscore MMA? That's when you use for that for MMA, or which one are you using? Yeah?

Speaker 4:

yeah, you don't even know, Shannon.

Speaker 1:

You're stupid. A second, I'll find a part.

Speaker 4:

I was supposed to create an X, which I didn't know.

Speaker 3:

X was anything I was yeah, but then she's like the X, like that's like porn.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I was like Just ask you to make a part.

Speaker 1:

I'm surprised. I didn't ask you make only fans, because I get a sponsor by only fans.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, actually I got to keep my Do it was I'm doing only fans the one that they fixed at the fight.

Speaker 2:

Like when you were choking her and you pulled.

Speaker 1:

Well, you kept that. You kept it sunk with the one hand yeah, which the announcer?

Speaker 2:

he was like wow, like I don't remember what he said, but he was like I was like she's like where, with all the like fixer top while she was joking, yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, if you're listening. Shannon underscore Clark MMA. That's your Instagram account. Shannon underscore. Clark MMA she doesn't post, so don't look.

Speaker 3:

But that's, you can follow her fix that'll be getting okay.

Speaker 1:

You can follow her there.

Speaker 4:

And I'll put a picture up eventually of my trip or something you have 1492 followers now.

Speaker 2:

Okay, so I, when I looked at your Instagram, like two days ago, you had in the 1300, so you've got a lot, of, a lot of people follow you.

Speaker 4:

I think before my fight I had like 400.

Speaker 2:

Oh well, but when, when pages like what the fuck Jiu-Jitsu are retweeting your choke, yeah, like are reposting your choke, like yeah.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, it's ridiculous. Yeah if you look where it's all gone. All across all the platforms there's a hundred percent. There's tons, tons I.

Speaker 1:

I Twittered our ex at Joe Rogan. He didn't respond. I sent, I sent. I put the video up.

Speaker 3:

It's like you again I.

Speaker 2:

Could be the kid block that guy.

Speaker 1:

Jamie block. Didn't work, so yet yet I'm still thinking my work one day. Then they'll be talking about the podcast, and then you really need to start using social media.

Speaker 2:

So, shannon, what is it? Shannon Clark, I'm a no.

Speaker 1:

Shannon this year, as good at this is Nerming ours Shannon underscore Clark MMA Shannon. Underscore Clark.

Speaker 2:

Or on the porn platform.

Speaker 1:

The X platform. Did you make one?

Speaker 4:

Too busy. I kept telling him okay, I will.

Speaker 3:

Well, but it's on there too.

Speaker 1:

Do you mind if I tell them your Instagram, joel, because you actually post things?

Speaker 3:

you want to see what she's doing?

Speaker 1:

It's on mine you want to see what Shannon's doing, go to his. And it is Brunislav one, brunis lav1.

Speaker 2:

I've always. What is the word of that? What is that?

Speaker 3:

It's my name. Well, not the one part like, but that's my name.

Speaker 2:

Brunislav like Bruno yeah, slob.

Speaker 3:

What you guys are laughing at me. That's quite mean if you were a lot of people. I would never laugh at you.

Speaker 4:

Just remember what's over here, yeah yeah right, this is an alter ego, shatty.

Speaker 2:

Shark the shark eyes and shark nado is not, oh yeah shark or bulldog? Yeah, well, that was a lot of fun. Yeah, I really enjoyed all things about your fight.

Speaker 1:

It's yeah we were there. I rewatched it today, like I. I'm still thinking about it a lot.

Speaker 2:

Me too. Me too, I was genuine. When I woke up the next morning and put my like a post on Instagram, I was like I'm so fired up with this because I woke up and I was like fuck.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I Meant to do it and I forgot to.

Speaker 1:

I was gonna go back and look at my heart rate during the time I was watching the fight because, I felt like my heart was like just like, well, where my house there was I don't know 15, 20 people there's most of people you train with and there you know friends of family. Yeah, I don't know, everyone was super, just kind of chill. And then all of a sudden, the fights are coming on and everyone got really tense. My wife was like who? Everyone? That's just that the mood just changed and everyone was all just like okay, here we go and there's a lot of yelling at the TV, a lot of clapping, when, yeah, dave was there. So Dave was like yelling at the TV. I don't, it was just, it was awesome. Nobody know what the fuck.

Speaker 3:

Just, but he was okay with it.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, no, it was good and Could you guys tell when I was coming out like, oh I'm good?

Speaker 1:

You could tell you're like you said. You could tell you're like there, you're good to go, and just the, you know, in the back of my okay, well, this girl's a black belt and percentage yet to run. Like, okay, she's got to be careful not to get just like. Honestly, I thought the only way you lose is you. Somehow we just get caught in something silly Like and so I was like the couple times when you got taken down, okay, okay, he's like getting the half guard, don't let in.

Speaker 1:

There's just like it looks so easy for you Not to allow her to get that. Keep advancing. There's like, ah, I don't think this is going anywhere with, like, she's not gonna be able to do anything and how you frame off her face which I felt numerous times and I know how strong that frame is. I'm like this girl she's not gonna have a chance to get in there. And so, yeah, I, everyone was pretty, actually pretty, comfortable. I got why was I can't speak everyone, but my heart was just going crazy. And then, obviously, when you sunk that in, at first we were like, oh, it's done. And then everyone's like she's gonna kill her. Oh, my god, I think she killed her. She's dead. No, it was awesome.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I was in Winnipeg with my wife's family when you, when she shot on you on the first round and you sprawled, I was like, and I already like same, like I said, when you came out, I was like, oh yeah, she's like, she's mind is there. She shot on you, you sprawled, I was like we're good. I thought you were gonna get her in the standing guillotine.

Speaker 3:

I was like fuck.

Speaker 2:

This is over, this is amazing. And then, when he didn't, I was like well, that was, that was a good look at a submission there. And then Round two, like there was, it was, I was, I was nervous, but I was actually much more nervous for your last fight.

Speaker 3:

How does it compare to the one in June? Like cage side.

Speaker 2:

Oh, nothing compares to cage. That's the problem.

Speaker 3:

But are you more nervous watching it like?

Speaker 2:

Actually, yes, are you more? No, I'd say I was more nervous on the TV. Yeah, yeah, would you say? That's the same like is that?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah the TV is. I mean, obviously I've never watched her fight on TV. Yeah but like, if I like a fighter on TV, like my heart will go racing. But like to watch her cage size yeah.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah, I don't know. I was the last one and, like when we, when I was at your house for the last time in Colorado, I was fucking nervous. Yeah, why am I so nervous? I'm not fighting.

Speaker 1:

I know like there's a couple times actually in that fight that you look like you're almost gonna get her and like a straight Arm bar from the bottom, like she cuz she had her arm kind of extended and then she ended pulling it out. But there's like two or three times you almost had like it looked like you almost had that and then she pulled out of it. But I was like, oh, she's gonna submit her here too.

Speaker 2:

I'm gonna have to watch that fight again, because I think you had a look at a normal plot of two you have to watch it like it's a thing where you do this thing and you move that leg over.

Speaker 3:

But it's interesting to watch it like afterwards as a coach, because it looks nothing like that live right, oh, yeah, yeah like nothing like that. Like there were so many times in there I was like what the fuck? Yeah would you get up? Like what is going on, but you're like, you're not worried. Yeah, just like. What are you doing? Like, get up. I do something other than that, because it doesn't look like that at times right, yeah.

Speaker 3:

And then, of course, like the advice Gavir was like not needed, but then you watch the second round, whatever. And then when I would watch it at home, now, like to watch from a technical standpoint, you're like, oh good lord, everything we said we should try, we did. Well, not we, she did. And you're like it's just, it was just like the one in Denver, or like the Denver one term. I'm thinking like fucking hit her, like would you hit her like why are you not taking her down?

Speaker 3:

Why aren't you hitting her harder? And I know she was pissed off with I kept calling for an elbow. But like, when you see it later you're like that was like so good, right, as a fighter for the game plan. So it's really it's weird to watch him afterwards, mm-hmm, and then like talk to her and she's like oh, I didn't want to do this, sorry, I didn't know to do this, like it's really yeah.

Speaker 1:

I mean, you can armchair quarterback for sure, right, but it's not even really armchair quarterback.

Speaker 3:

It is like you don't see what she sees, and I get it sometimes not even close right, like you're watching her and you're like, oh yeah, what are you doing?

Speaker 1:

Right, or feeling the pressure right. Like you are into the lack of pressure and you're like, oh, I'm comfortable here, it's fine.

Speaker 4:

And that's my biggest thing right on this. The first round was I was so comfortable and I'm just like Okay, it worked right probably shouldn't do that again, but I was very Content being on my back right. Maybe because people like to beat me up on my back. Lots guys.

Speaker 1:

And they way usually like. So what do you think? She way like that girl probably didn't put on a ton of weight for the fight, like maybe five pounds. You think she cut five to get there.

Speaker 4:

No.

Speaker 3:

I don't know.

Speaker 1:

I would I would say she's probably 135 max right, so she may be cut 10, but like, and so you're training with people, like I said, I'm the lightest at 170 and so everyone else is bigger than that who are gonna sit on top of you. So it's not yeah, you used to that, but I like what you said because you did answer ask a question. I should be wrapping this up here, but somebody asked you a question about Whether that was a positive or negative that you're training with people who are usually a lot bigger than you're, struggling than you, and it's a good point, right, because you, I mean it's positive in a lot of ways, but, like you, I think you mentioned that there is some negative aspects, meaning some of the techniques that you Potentially would be doing on these girls. You can't really do one. Him who's six to right versus sure.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and this one. I think that's very true, but it doesn't seem to Make a difference yet so far.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I think one day it might, but yeah, so far we haven't had to do that yet. Yeah.
