Lesson 14: The Wise Use of Time
Paragraphs: 14-17

Life's hiccups can unravel us or they can be moments of profound learning—a choice I faced head-on when my son's car trouble called for a late-night rescue mission. What unfolded was not just a tale of a stranded teenager and his weary dad, but a lesson in transformation that I'm eager to share. I recount this personal episode to set the stage for a discussion on the power of positive self-talk and the remarkable shift from anxiety to exhilaration, with an insight from my days at the San Diego Padres that might just change the way you face your next big challenge.

Imagine picking up the phone to call a stranger, not to sell them something, but to offer a simple message of love and affirmation. This episode takes us through a unique exercise that pushes the boundaries of comfort, inspired by the Way of Mastery's teachings. As we explore the nuances of this practice, we also delve into the concept that the treasures we seek aren't in the accolades we accumulate but in the love we give and embody. Join me as we examine the emotional landscape of random acts of kindness and how they redefine our sense of self-worth and purpose.

Finally, we're beckoned to consider love not as a fleeting emotion but as the core of our very existence. Through meditation, teaching, and daily practice, I share how we can peel back the layers of our ego to reveal the limitless potential for love within us all. The episode concludes with an exercise from the 'Way of Transformation' program, guiding you through a month-long journey towards embracing this powerful truth. So settle in and prepare for a heart-centric voyage as we journey together toward embodying the transformative essence of love.

Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome back to the Daily Study of the Way of Mastery. I'm Jason Amoroso, your guide and friend and fellow student. And today I'm just laughing because I started to record this and then I had a giant yawn and I should just keep it in and not edit it out. Anyways, today we are diving back into. Here it is again.

Speaker 1:

So last night at like 11.45, I'm watching the rest of the NBA playoff basketball game. It's almost over, I'm ready to go to bed and my phone rings and it's my eldest son, who is 18. And I'm kind of guessing that he's not home. I didn't know that he wasn't home and I answer the phone and he is with his girlfriend and they're out and about somewhere. And give, granted, it's a Wednesday night. He doesn't have to be at school today. The next morning I'm recording this until like 11 am. So he's out with his girlfriend at 11 45 and her battery on her car dies. So gotta find some jumper cables. I had to wake up my brother-in-law, who's staying with us now, because he's got jumper cables. Then I drove 15 minutes, helped them jump the car and then had to drive her home or follow her home, just to make sure the car didn't stall out again and then he got our car and then we came home together so I didn't get to bed till like 1 am and then of course, I gotta get up at you know 6 30 to take my kids to school. So I'm a little tired and that's why I'm yawning, and you know what it's like.

Speaker 1:

During that experience, a part of me wanted to like be the mad dad. Like how could you be irresponsible and what an inconvenience this is on me and you know all these things like I could see. A part of me wanted to play that role, but I didn't. Another part of me was like, oh, look at this, I get to be of service. I get to you know, not be that guy that when I go to meet my son and his girlfriend, I don't embarrass him or make her feel not that I can make her feel anyway but come and be all judgy. I can have a conversation with my son today, when not in the heat of the moment about just responsibilities and cars and curfews on school nights and things like that.

Speaker 1:

But yeah, I really that like those are the day to day experiences where I get to create my experience. What story am I going to tell myself about this Like what, what am, what am I going to? How am I going to move through this and use it and experience it? So, anyways, that's just real life and that's what I want to bring to any kind of spirituality, any kind of teaching, the way of mastery. It's like your daily life is your classroom, and so I'm a little more tired this morning and I'm yawning and I'm going to not edit this out because it's just real. So, lesson 14, the wise use of time. You know, I read this section that we're about to talk through today and I'm excited.

Speaker 1:

So here's something that I use in my clients, in my coaching work, and this is something that I used when I was working with the San Diego Padres baseball team. I was the director of professional development, which basically means that I was in charge of the mental toughness, mental skills, performance on the field, mindset, leadership and personal growth, and I don't know if other sports teams have that, but we had that, and so that was my role and it was, for we have about 26 major league baseball players and then 200 minor league baseball players of all ages, all different races, ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, education, religions it's amazing Very diverse and then all of our staff members on the baseball side of things, so not like sales and tickets and promotions, but like coaches and staff members. And so I'd work with our trainers or whoever in mental skills and leadership and personal growth, and one of the things that I learned that I shared with the players and I've used it myself it's so powerful, it's so simple is when you say to yourself, either inside or out loud, I'm nervous, I'm nervous about this. And first of all, nerves, it's just energy, like I used to judge myself because in high school, before a basketball game, I would get nervous and I'd be like, why am I nervous? I shouldn't, I shouldn't be nervous. And then I judge myself and then I have more doubt, and then, once the game started, the nerves would go away. But I would judge myself I shouldn't be nervous, I should be confident, I should feel not this.

Speaker 1:

And then, as I got older and I learned more about psychology and mental skills, I learned that, oh, john Lennon, when he was at his height, would like throw up before a big concert. So nerves are normal and other athletes had this too, but I didn't know that as a teenager. And so then I started studying some more and realized that it's just energy and we get to choose our experience of the energy moving through the body. And I read some studies which were great, which I would share with the athletes, which is they did a study and they took one group of people who were taking tests or giving speeches or athletic performance, and they would just kind of feel the nerves and say I'm nervous to themselves, or whatever, and then take the test. And then they have another group where they would take the test, do the speech and play the sport, and they would say two words to themselves, either silently or aloud, and by saying just those two words, their performance improved by like 20%. And the two words were I'm excited. I'm excited. Instead of saying to yourself I'm nervous, because nervous is a fear of what might go wrong, I might mess up, they might laugh at me. It's a negative creation, negative. And by saying I'm excited, it's the same energy that's coursing through your body. You're just giving it a different story. You're just saying, oh, I'm excited because and then you can create Well, I get to test my skills, I get to see what I can do, I get to make a difference, I get to make an impact with people. I'm excited because this is going to be fun and so you create the story, you create your experience. I'm sharing this with you and going, of course, I like to take detours. I because I'm inviting you to use this.

Speaker 1:

I remember I was giving a keynote talk to at an NFL event, to a bunch of NFL and college people, colleagues in my, in my same position, around kind of mental skills and mental health, and I remember, before the talk, I was feeling nervous and I almost I was saying to myself like oh man, I'm nervous, I'm feeling nervous. And then I caught myself and I said no wait, I'm excited. This is an amazing opportunity. I get to speak in front of the NFL and major college football people, colleagues at, like, the University of Alabama and like big, this is big time, this is exciting. I get to share with them something that has helped me, that has helped my clients, that might help their people. The ripple effect of this, who knows like? This is exciting and I shifted my mindset by saying those two words. I was still feeling the same thing, but everything changed and I went up there and I killed it.

Speaker 1:

And so try that that could be with anything. It could be on like a first date. Oh, I'm nervous to be on this first date. What if he or she they don't like me or I say something stupid, or uh, and we'd be? Oh, I'm excited, I get to meet a new person, I get to have some fun. I don't know you, you don't even have to justify it, but you can I'm nervous or I'm excited.

Speaker 1:

So I'm sharing all this, because when I read this section, my initial response was I'm nervous, and I stopped breathing. And then I was like wait a second, no, I'm excited. This is exciting because this is going to stretch me. I'm'm going to grow from this. So let's dive in. All right, here we go. We're looking at paragraph 14, 15, 16, and 17. It's an exercise that Jeshua is giving us. It's the end of this opening section in lesson 14, the Wise Use of Time. All right, jeshua says. Here is a simple exercise that we wish to give you.

Speaker 1:

When, next, you find yourself alone and perhaps feeling just a little lonely, and you notice that the mind is spinning with thoughts and you are feeling perhaps just a little weak and out of sorts, pick up your telephone book, take three deep breaths and with each breath, say to yourself. In reality, I remain as I am created to be. I am the holy child of God. Then merely open the book, open the phone book, place your hand on one of the pages and with the many names and numbers, and just feel, in italics, feel your way to a specific name and number. You will know the feeling.

Speaker 1:

Then, for the fun of it, call that person and when they answer the phone, merely say I'm not here to sell you anything. I just need about 15 seconds of your time. I know you've never met me, but I was just sitting in my chair remembering that the truth is true always. And I'm calling to remind you that you are loved by God. You've never failed, you've never done anything wrong. You remain pure and innocent, even now, and I just wanted to give my blessings to you.

Speaker 1:

Have a nice day, goodbye, for you see, the world in which you live has but one purpose. It is the same in italics, same purpose that all dimensions of creation have to be the extension of the Father's love, for that is what creation is. And then to extend in italics, to extend that love. From that world, from that dimension, each and every one of you has but one treasure, only one treasure. It is not your child, it is not your spouse, it is not the new car in the garage. Your treasure is your reality as the unlimited, holy and only begotten child of God. You are a field of consciousness through which the Father would extend himself. Bam, this is a. It is simple. What's more simple than just picking a phone number, calling it and saying, reading kind of reading this script. That's a simple exercise.

Speaker 1:

How does really thinking, how does thinking about doing this make you feel in the body? Does it make you feel uneasy? Does it make you feel nervous? Does it make you feel excited? How is it, how are you feeling when you read about actually doing this exercise? Wait, wait, wait. All right, I'm not really going to call up a stranger and say this, that's crazy. What that's so weird and random? Or, oh my gosh, this is exciting. I get to drop love bombs on a stranger who has no idea who I am. This will be a fun game and that's all I have to say. I don't have to introduce myself, or I don't have to have a conversation with them, or oh, I get to have a conversation with them. Where could this lead? You get to create your experience and you don't have to wait until you find yourself lonely and alone. You can, but you don't have to.

Speaker 1:

You're feeling, perhaps, a little weak and out of sorts. You know, it's like when we get so down inside of ourselves, it's because we've forgotten who we are. That's what this exercise is about. It's like, hey, this is to remember who we are. That's what this exercise is about. It's like, hey, this is to remember. This is to jog your memory of who you really are. You're feeling all down and lonely and I'm not enough and I'm weak and I'm a victim and you know, woe is me. Well, you're the child of God. Let's remind you of that. And how do you?

Speaker 1:

You know and I would talk about this with the athletes I worked with too, these young men it's like when you're just really down on yourself, go do something for someone else, go be of service, because you're insulated in your own kind of selfishness, it's all about me and I'm not good enough. You're just so self-absorbed. But the second you do something for another, you be of service, you help someone. All of a sudden, you're not so focused on yourself, you're focused on someone else and serving them and helping them and supporting them. That feels good. I don't think I've ever helped another person genuinely where I didn't feel good, like it didn't, I didn't receive as I was given this, this I mean this is probably something to do with teenagers that are feeling depressed or lonely. Go out and help volunteer. Make it not about you, this goes for anybody. So this is an exercise.

Speaker 1:

Now, this is what the living, the way of mass, this is my. My meditation chair is a little creaky, so when you hear those kind of creaks, I'm shifting my position in my meditation chair. This is what the living, the way of mastery program, and this is what I love to do as a coach. It's like let's take this theory. This is a nice idea. It sounds good, I understand what Josh was trying to do and let's put it into practice, because that's when change really happens. This is what I mean. This is this is, you know, volume two, the way of transformation. So I've never done a living, the way of mastery with a group and volume two. Yet we're still in the way of the heart, Less than 11. We're in month 11. We're still in the way of the heart, lesson 11. We're in month 11. But when I do this with the way of transformation group. This is what we're going to be doing and I wrote it down One day every day for 30 days as a social experiment.

Speaker 1:

If you don't have a phone book, I get it. I don't have a phone book. I think they used to mail them and we'd just throw them away, because who the heck use a phone book anymore with the internet? But we'll find a way. We'll find. Maybe I'm sure there's some uh internet software.

Speaker 1:

You can pick a random number or you could just always just pick a random business because you know they're going to answer. You know a lot of people now cell phones at least like if I don't recognize the number, I'm not picking up the phone, but businesses do. So pick a dog grooming business, there you go. I just picked up a dry cleaner. Or you know fast food. They're busy, but like a real estate office where you know they're going to answer and like they're there to listen to what you have to say, because you only need 15 seconds, right, or 20 seconds, 20 seconds and pick a random number once a day for 30 days as an experiment to see what happens, to see how you transform.

Speaker 1:

If you're really nervous about it, it's going to be uncomfortable at first. I'm calling a stranger, they don't know me, I'm saying this weird stuff like this is so weird. But what's going to happen? Over 30 days doing it every day? You might find that after the who knows I don't know the seventh, the eighth, the 10th, the 12th, the 15th call that you're actually excited to do this. You can't wait for your one call a day.

Speaker 1:

You might have some responses where you see people can't receive this love even though you're bestowing it upon them and that's not your job for them to receive it. You'll see where you have attachments and expectations. Oh, this person didn't receive it, so I feel bad. Or they really received it, so I feel good. And then you can start to detach yourself from how someone else is responding to love. Oh, it doesn't matter how they receive it or don't receive it, it's just this is me being it because I'm here to extend the Father's love. Oh, it doesn't matter how they receive it or don't receive it, it's just this is me being it because I'm here to extend the Father's love. Oh, I see that when I'm feeling a little down, this helps shift me into remembering who I am Right. This is a powerful exercise and if you do it with a group of people where you know every day you're going to make your call and then kind of report back to the group on Voxer, then it's more fun, Then it's a game and it's not like, oh crap.

Speaker 1:

In reality I remain as I am created to be, not I was created to be right. These little subtle things are impactful. There's no past tense, there's only now. There's only the present past tense. There's only now. There's only the present. In reality, I remain as I am created to be. I am the holy child with a capital C, child of God. I am a wave in the ocean of existence. I am an expression of the infinite divine in form uniquely individuated as this, as me, as this, and my only purpose is to be what I am, to express and extend and create as I was created out of love, and I love that.

Speaker 1:

Place your hand on one of the pages of the phone book with the many names and numbers and feel your way to a specific name and number. Feel, let your intuition, let the Holy Spirit guide you and when you land on a number, don't question it, don't doubt it. You know, I mean, you can do those things, but like practice, trusting intuition, trusting that you will be led to exactly where you are needed by the Holy Spirit. That will bless you but also bless the other person. And then and then and this is again these little words matter, we can't hear them enough over and over again, for the fun of it. For the fun of it If it feels terrifying, if you don't want to do it, if it's nerve-wracking, shift, see if you can shift.

Speaker 1:

Imagine what it would be like to do something like this. That was fun. What if you had $10,000 that you had to give away? You can't keep it. Let's say you have $100 million or $10 million or whatever. You don't even need money. Let's just say you have $10,000, that somebody comes up and says here's a bag of $10,000. You got to give it away to a random stranger. Wouldn't that feel so good? It would feel so good to just be like hey, you don't know me. I got a gift for you. Here's 10 grand, no strings attached, you know, tax free, all the deal, here it is. That would feel so good, that would be fun. And if you got to do that every day for your entire life, how much fun would that be? So, for the fun of it above all, god thinks playfully. The fun of it above all. God thinks playfully the game of awakening.

Speaker 1:

We can't hear this enough because it can seem so serious. We can make it so serious and and you get the script. Jeshua's giving you the script right here. He's not saying hey, my name is and you got to tell him your name, you don't have to do that. And it's amazing. The very first thing, the very the very first line this is the world we live in, where we're so sales averse, we're so tired of being sold to that the very first line Joshua is giving us is I'm not here to sell you anything. Don't hang up, I don't, I'm not going to sell you anything. Right, that's amazing. I just need 60, 15 seconds of your time.

Speaker 1:

I know you've never met me, but I was just sitting in my chair remembering that the truth is true always. Who cares how someone's going to respond to that? What the truth is true, what the heck? All right, I'm listening. It's only 15 seconds and I'm calling to remind you that you are loved by God. Would anyone not want to hear that? Like what a cool blessing that would be if, all of a sudden, your phone rang. You answer the phone, said hey, I know you don't know me, but I'm just calling to say, to remind you that you are loved by God. You've never failed, you've never done anything wrong. You remain pure and innocent even now, and I just wanted to give my blessings to you. Have a great day, goodbye, click.

Speaker 1:

What Love bomb that could change somebody's life. For you see, the world you live in has one purpose. That's it. You have one purpose. Not the world has a purpose you have one purpose Wherever you find yourself In a body not in a body In the third dimension. Not the world has a purpose you have one purpose Wherever you find yourself in a body, not in a body in the third dimension, in the fifth dimension, on Mars, it doesn't matter where you are. You're 80 years old, you're 20 years old, you're 30 years old, you're married, you're divorced, you've had limbs amputated, it doesn't matter. You have one purpose, the same purpose that all dimensions of creation have that anything in existence has to be the extension of the Father's love. Literally, anything that exists is of God, is of the one life force, the one source, and it has one purpose to extend, express the essence of what it is the essence of God, which is love. That's it Anything. For that's what creation is. Creation is the extension of love. And then to extend that love from that world, from that dimension, each and every one of you is but one treasure. That's it In italics. Only one treasure. Are you getting it? It's you, your essence, your consciousness, your love. You are the treasure you are here to, not the personality, the essence of the spirit of what you are.

Speaker 1:

And the more that I study this, the more that I do these meditations, these exercises, the more that I teach this, the more that I'm dedicated to applying these principles and ideas in my daily life, the more and more I'm feeling it, I'm knowing it, I'm glimpsing things, I'm having experiences that I can't explain in my rational thinking mind, that are beyond words, that are so vast beyond comprehension. It's like I feel myself sitting in a chair and a body, but I also feel how vast I am, the I am of, I am, and it's it's. It's happening in drips and drops and flashes and moments, and and I'm not making it happen it's happening through grace, through my commitment to just keep showing up. And then there's other times where I get upset and I trigger, I forget who I am and I get lost in the dream, and that's OK too. And then I kind of catch myself and come back to everything Jeshua has been teaching.

Speaker 1:

Your treasure is not your child that could be hard for some of us to hear. Your treasure is not your spouse, it's not your car, it's not your job, it's not the money in your bank account, it's not your health. Your treasure is not your physical health, because even that's going to go. Everyone's dying from the physical body, everyone's leaving the physical body. It doesn't matter how healthy you are. That's not your treasure. Your treasure isn't your intelligence, how smart you are.

Speaker 1:

Your treasure is your reality as the unlimited, holy and only begotten child of God. Your treasure is the love that you are. You are a field of consciousness. You are awareness through which the Father, the Mother, universe, source, god, abba, whatever word you want to use. You are a field of consciousness. I'm awareness through which life, god, love, the father, would extend himself through you.

Speaker 1:

That's what you are. That's your one purpose. That's why you were made. Are you willing to accept that, embrace that, own it? It's not to get promoted, it's not to have enough savings for retirement, a big 401k, whatever. To raise well-behaved, good citizen children, to be seen in a certain way, for people to validate you, for you to have X amount of followers on social media. That's not your purpose. Your purpose isn't to have six-pack abs or look good in that dress or impress people. That's not your purpose. Your purpose is to extend the good, the holy and the beautiful which is you, your true self, and that's what this exercise is designed to get you out of your limited, narrow view of yourself, the small self, and into the capital S big, true, authentic Christ self that you are, by blessing someone else, by sharing it with someone else.

Speaker 1:

Not woe is me and my life isn't the way that I want it and the world isn't the way that I want it. Why don't people just change? Why can't we have peace on earth? And why is? Why can't we solve hunger? And why can't the corporations do this and why can't the politicians do this? And if only, if only this was different.

Speaker 1:

You, if, if that's the, the sandbox you're playing in, you'll never escape it. That's the way of the world of the ego, is duality and separation. There's always something else that needs. It's always out there, it's always in the next thing. You'll never be at peace, you'll never be happy, because you're playing in duality. You're playing in the world of the ego, which is separation, and everything's an extension of separation, of lack, of something missing. You're being invited to reside in truth. You don't have to reside in truth. That's the power of free will you get to create your experience. You're so powerful and so loved and have so much free will you can even create the idea and feeling and experience of limitation from the unlimitedness of who you are. That's the amazing, beautiful part.

Speaker 1:

So this exercise, again, when I go through with whoever it is in the living, the way of mastery program for volume two, the way of transformation, in the second month, because this is the second lesson of the way of transformation, once a day for 30 days. If it's february, we'll do 29 days, unless it's a leap year and we'll do 28 anyways. Or it's a 31 day, once a day for that month. As I say in the beginning, I'm a fellow student and, as I shared my story in the beginning, I'm trying to use my and I'm trying, I am using my daily life to grow, to learn, to heal, to expand, to extend my treasure, and I'm so honored to be on this journey with you and I really encourage you to apply this into your life, to do the uncomfortable work of applying it. It's so worth it. Thanks for listening.
