Aliya Cheyanne:

Hello, hello, hello, woo, woo, woo. Welcome back, y'all.

Tasia Marie:

Welcome back. Welcome back Treatings bup, bup, bup.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Yes, so it's been a long time coming, but we're back.

Tasia Marie:

A brief hiatus.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Brief hiatus.

Tasia Marie:

We're back. We may look a little different now. I know it's treatings and it's two things right now.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Yeah, that's the thing Looking a little different, looking a little different In more ways than one. I know I'm not looking like the picture anymore because my locks are gone.

Tasia Marie:

Yeah, and my locks are shortened. They went somewhere and then I restarted them again. So, yeah, we came back a little different this year.

Aliya Cheyanne:

So, um, yeah, why don't we reintroduce ourselves for the people? So I'll go first. I'm a Leah Cheyenne and I'm excited to be resuming the podcast. Um, it's been a long time coming. A labor of love and it's something really fun that we do. And, yeah, I'm excited to do it all over again, um, with my sister.

Tasia Marie:

Yes, yes, and I'm your old Tasia Marie. Two thirds of the treatings. Um, definitely excited to get back to this podcast and bang. It's been a minute. There's so much going on. Um, yeah, yeah.

Aliya Cheyanne:

So yeah, in case you're wondering where the third thing is A girl, mikaela Ray. Um, so life is life and y'all were busy. That's been another way of doing it. Yeah, so I just wanted to say that life and y'all were busy. That's been another reason why, you know, it's taken such a long time to come back, but Mikaela Ray still definitely a part of the show, like on the background, like helping us think through what we want to talk about.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Um, and she'll be jumping in when she can, when her availability allows, but for the time being, tasia and I will be holding it down.

Tasia Marie:

And yeah, it's still going to be a good time, peeps, yeah hold it down.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Something else that's very different this time around is we are on video. So if you're listening on your favorite podcast platform, great, we thank you, we appreciate you, we love you for that. Please rate and review, but also we will be available on YouTube. So if you wanna kick it with us and actually see what's going on, see our faces, spend time with us that way, we'll be on YouTube.

Tasia Marie:

So you should check us out there. Yes, yes, yes. New season, new platform, new content. We coming at y'all, we coming at you Real hard.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Real hard, yeah. So why don't we talk about what we've been up to? It's been a bit of a hiatus Supposed to take a summer break. Last year it turned into a year long break.

Tasia Marie:

It's a seasons break.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Yeah, so why don't we talk about what we've been up to? Oopoo, do you wanna go first?

Tasia Marie:

Sure, life's definitely been lifeing. I'm not gonna say unfortunately, Fortunately. I'm still teaching. I'm working on my next strategy, AKA exit plan. All my fellow, educators out there.

Tasia Marie:

Pretty sure y'all understand this plate, but I am starting to realize that I do wanna help kids, but I don't wanna be in the classroom, because there's always been a struggle in mind and maybe we'll talk not maybe we'll talk about this season, as an educator, being a part of the problem or being a part of the solution. That's my biggest thing. I wanna be a part of the solution, and being in the classroom Don't feel like I'm a big solution. So that is what brought to current fruition. Twa Core XV presents ART which stands for Art, for Resilience and Transformation. Amen, yes, yes, yes. Hold on. What are your programs?

Aliya Cheyanne:

Yeah, I love that.

Tasia Marie:

Yeah, we love solutions. So basically, it's an after school program where I'm teaching kids how to put tools into their toolbox when it comes to social and emotional health, because a lot of us don't know how to verbalize how we're feeling, but when it comes to the arts, we can express ourselves. We can do it through music, we can do it through actual art. So I just want to make sure I'm giving kids the tools that they need to be resilient and to transform into the amazing kings and queens that they're meant to be.

Aliya Cheyanne:

I know that's right.

Tasia Marie:

That was one of the biggest things that I've been working on. I do want to to my own horn for a little bit and just sit on a high horse. I was able to secure a partnership with DC Public Schools.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Hey, talk your shit, yeah, yeah.

Tasia Marie:

Before my after school program. So it's really now the execution part and getting it popping. And I don't only want to be with DC Public Schools, I also want to be with Charter Schools too. So it's also trying to figure out that realm as well. But I would say that's the biggest piece of what's been happening in the midst of life life. Of course, my art is still always going to be popping in my head. I'm an artist. I'm a struggling artist.

Aliya Cheyanne:

You are an artist in real life, not just in your head.

Tasia Marie:

Right, right, right. Yeah, I am an artist in real life, so I've just been working on a few pieces. I've had a few creative blocks throughout the course of the past year. We will also talk about that as well on later episodes. So, getting back into my groove, getting back into my flow, finding myself a bit more and again, I'll elaborate a bit more on that, because we spoke briefly about it in season one. You know, life changes. So, yeah, that's where I'm at. Where are you at boo? What's new with you?

Aliya Cheyanne:

Yes, I love all of that for you. I'm so excited for everything that you're putting into place. I'm excited to witness it all come to fruition, to support where and when I can, and I'm just really excited for you to like, create and manifest the life that you just deserve and that you want. So I'm excited for you about that. So what's been up with me so well? During season one, I was on a career break. I had left a toxic job that was just really taking a toll on me, from the job to the boss. I had, in the end child, who ended up getting fired later on Because you tried me and a bunch of other people. And I was on a career break. I was taking time to rest and decompress from having been working since undergrad. Even before then, my first little jobs like what was it like? A camp counselor in high school. Even before that, I would dog sit occasionally in junior high. Whatever, I was taking a break from working, I was decompressing and yeah, I had made an intentional exit.

Aliya Cheyanne:

I knew the time was coming and I was setting aside resources for that, and in the end, I was just like I might not have hit my complete goal, but I'm far enough there that I can walk the fuck away from this. So I took that time off and then needed money again. So I got a new job and, yeah, I just made my year anniversary with them and yeah, we'll talk about those things another time. But, more importantly, beyond all of that, I'm really getting organized and proactive around my creative goals. So one of them is definitely resuming this podcast.

Aliya Cheyanne:

It's fun, it's a hobby. We have a vision for it, for what we want long term for this podcast, and I'm excited to get back into it and start putting shit out there again. Okay, so I'm excited about that. And, yeah, I have a couple of other things that I'm trying to create, so we'll talk about this more another time. But I am hella single and I've been hella single for a long time, and I am creating a project around that that I'm really excited about, and when it's ready, I can't wait to launch it and share it with all of you.

Tasia Marie:

Amazing.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Thank you, boo. And yeah, like my journal is still out there and available. That's something I created last year. Like during that career break, I was like this is something I want to create that I'm passionate about. So, just getting back into my projects that I'm excited about and some other things on the way, that's what I've been up to and it feels really good.

Tasia Marie:

What else?

Aliya Cheyanne:

have I been up to Traveling? We've been traveling since y'all last spoke to us. Like for my birthday. Earlier this year I went to Turks and Caicos, my first solo trip ever. It was bomb.

Tasia Marie:

We definitely got a debut for about that one.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Yeah, so that was lit. My grandma's birthday trip to Aruba was nice Done. A couple of retreats we listened Season one, we talked about Sheila, marie and the Unruly Retreat. Listen, I made it. I was part of the May 2023 Unruly Retreat and everything. And, yeah, that was fire and a couple other. We did a retreat together, teja and I. Yes, yes, you want to share.

Tasia Marie:

That was amazing. Yeah, a little bit about that. That was amazing. Soulkeepers Club. Soulseekers Club yeah, I'm sorry, Soulseekers Club.

Aliya Cheyanne:

You got it.

Tasia Marie:

Fucking amazing. It was a nature retreat. The people who were around it was such a small group, but every single person was amazing. I left that weekend feeling so recharged, Re-invigorated. We had a mushroom ceremony that was lit. That was lit, but it was everything. That was an amazing recharge and it came in such a perfect time Like it would be, amazing if we could actually get the Soul Seekers Club you know, on here in the lab.

Tasia Marie:

We also went on a hike with Black Girls Hike. That was amazing as well. Yeah, that was fun. Remember how you walked across that log.

Aliya Cheyanne:

I felt so good man, there was this long log across this little creaky, streamy thing and I just felt like I could do it and I took my time and I crossed pigeon toad Like I was crossing, like this. My feet weren't like this, they were like this. But you did it though. I took my time and I made it and then, unfortunately, not too long after that, I slipped and fell on her. We're just so nervous we're still recovering. Not on the log, it fell off the log. I slipped and fell on the rock, yo, but that was amazing.

Tasia Marie:

She needed across the damn creek Right, like literally on the last leg.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Listen, but that was a really nice weekend retreat. They're actually doing another one in August, so we're going to see about that.

Aliya Cheyanne:

So there's that, and then I have I've spoken about this before, like in my close relationships, but also to myself. I've just been saying I really want to be in more dope spaces with incredible Black women and I feel like between Unruly, between the Soul Seekers Club and also a retreat I went to earlier in the year in DC about Black women, entrepreneurs and CEOs and business owners and hustlers and whatever. Like that was also a small, intimate group and I just feel like being in these spaces, I always feel empowered and inspired and like like I've learned something about myself or what I want to do in life and that's been really, really good. What about you before travel? You just came back from a trip not too long ago.

Tasia Marie:

Great for the soul. Yes, so I just came back from the Dominican Republic. I stayed in Punta Cana. That was nice. I stayed on the impressive resort. I definitely have a review coming up for them, but it was a fun time. Where else have I gone? I went out to Cali in February.

Aliya Cheyanne:

I went out to Cali.

Tasia Marie:

LA is always a vibe. Cali has my heart, man, because it gives me like. It gives me that East Coast and I'm sorry, not East Coast. It gives me that up North and down South vibe, meaning that I can still wake up at two o'clock in the morning and go down the street to a corner store and get whatever the fuck I need. But it's also very Southern at the same time too, where people are going to stop and greet you and say hi. It just gives me that balance. I fucking love Cali, la to be specific.

Tasia Marie:

I've never been to any other part of Cali but. La has my heart. Where else did I go? Vegas?

Aliya Cheyanne:

Yeah.

Tasia Marie:

In April. That was a quick trip. That was a fun, interesting trip. I learned a lot about myself on that trip.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Okay.

Tasia Marie:

I learned enough about myself that it catapulted me into therapy. Yay.

Aliya Cheyanne:

That's for therapy. You know I'm a big advocate for therapy. Yes, for therapy.

Tasia Marie:

You're a huge advocate for therapy and I'm just sad that I've not been on it on it Like I should have been years ago. But I have an amazing therapist now and we are on a journey and I'm so excited to continue this journey.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Yeah.

Tasia Marie:

Because it's just all about being a better you. I said I'm not going to be the best ever, but I just want to be better each day.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Yeah.

Tasia Marie:

See.

Aliya Cheyanne:

And everything happens in its own time.

Tasia Marie:

Exactly, and I went to Mexico. Was that in the past year? Yeah, that was in the past year. I went to Mexico twice. So I went to Tulum first and then I went to Playa del Carmen second. Yeah, got robbed in Tulum, not literally robbed.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Scammed. Bambles it yes.

Tasia Marie:

Like a motherfucker, and Playa del Carmen was definitely a vibe.

Aliya Cheyanne:

So yeah, that's it Traveling. Yeah, I have failed to mention Unruly was in Jamaica, which was nice, I really even having a Jamaican mom and Jamaican American dad and Jamaican parents. I have not been to Jamaica since I was a kid. So, it was nice to go back for that, and was it? The retreat that we did together was in the Poconos, which is that.

Aliya Cheyanne:

But that was also nice and it was. You know I was a little worried and concerned because it was at the time where New York would end, maryland, everywhere else was getting like the aftermath of the fires in Canada and like the air quality was insane, like the sky was orange and I was like, is this still happening? Are?

Tasia Marie:

we still hiking in this.

Aliya Cheyanne:

It's the end of the world as we know it. But it was really clear that weekend. It was a beautiful weekend, that was nice. And then the retreat earlier in the year was in DC. So yeah, I'm not new there. Went there a lot for like work, at one point in time with one job I had, and also just in that area DMV area to visit my sister. So yeah, been on moves and looking forward to future travels, whatever that pans out to be, whatever that looks like.

Aliya Cheyanne:

So yes yeah, that's what we've missed. We've missed you all going to Iceland, but we're going to talk about another way. I said I have this urge to go to Iceland. Girl, take me with you, because Iceland's on my bucket list.

Tasia Marie:

Yes, we have to go, like I want to see these Nordic lights.

Aliya Cheyanne:

I want to see the Northern Lights. I want to see like apparently they're really, they're really beautiful, Like Waterfalls out there. Great food that's on my list.

Tasia Marie:

I wanna do the floaty spas and the mud bats and all that out there. Yes, when is the most optimal time to go?

Aliya Cheyanne:

I don't know, girl, we gonna have to Google that.

Tasia Marie:

Yeah, we gonna have to make it.

Aliya Cheyanne:

And you know, in any of those places there are like more optimal times than others to even see the Northern Lights, depending on where you stay, like how clear it is. So it's always a gamble, but plenty of people make those tracks, not just to Iceland, there's other places you can see it to, apparently. But, like you know, some people get lucky, so I hope we gonna get lucky.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Yeah, cause that's definitely on my bucket list. Yeah, yeah. So that's what we've been up to. We've definitely missed you guys. We're glad to be back. We hope you've missed us too, and we're excited to be together. We're excited that we're spending some time together again. So, yeah, so another thing we wanted to dive into quickly was just kind of like what we learned from season one.

Aliya Cheyanne:

So you can go with that one, yeah, but not to keep it too long. But like one thing that comes to mind that I've heard before on another podcast that I really like called Dating in NYC, the podcast by Jordan Ash. One time in an episode she said, like you know, podcasting people think it's all like shits and giggles, but it takes a little bit of work, like it takes work and it takes money. So, like she said, something like when you see people out here with these wrong ass opinions, just to know they're paying. They're paying to be loud and wrong and I completely agree with that because it's a hobby, but it's not a free hobby.

Tasia Marie:

Right.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Depending on, like, how big you are and what you have in place, like it can be a really expensive hobby or, you know, either way, it's not a completely free hobby.

Aliya Cheyanne:

It takes time and money and energy to do these things. And yeah, I am all about simplifying things for all of us this season. Yeah, and I'm glad that the platforms we use have some new integrations that will take some labor off of us. But, yeah, I think the biggest takeaway from season one is that, like we might need a little bit of help, so I'm glad that we are like utilizing support this season to just help us do all the things and hopefully make this bigger and better than it was for season one and just not burning out from it.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Like it's a lot to record, it's a lot to edit, it's a lot to promote on social media, it's a lot to keep track of all of the platforms that we use and like the payments that we have to make. Like it's a lot to organize and produce around what we want to talk about and prepare for it and like come to the table ready and our best for you guys for these talks that we have. So, yeah, I'm just excited to just hopefully make things a lot more smooth for us this year so that we can continue to be excited about it, so that we won't get burned out by it, and also just recognizing when we need a break. Like by the end of season one, I was like, okay, I am, I'm a little burned out.

Tasia Marie:

Yeah, we need a break and yeah.

Aliya Cheyanne:

So just recognizing when we do need a break, like so we can't promise that we're gonna be constantly going all year round all year long like some of your favorite pods. Like we will definitely rest when we need to, but we do hope that you'll enjoy season two and we're excited to bring you some new episodes. So that's my biggest thing. I don't know if you have any boo.

Tasia Marie:

Yeah, definitely, with the burnout taking that break, there's a podcast that I do listen to. It's a balanced black girl and I like I've just gotten into podcasts. You know this me and you were speaking about this. Yeah, like, even when we were recording our podcast, I wasn't even really listening to too many other podcasts.

Tasia Marie:

So, it's just us. But anyway, I've gotten into it and you know I really like her episodes. I went back and I was listening to stuff and I make sure I get her little weekly updates. And then, like last week, she was like well, y'all, I'm taking a break for the summer. Not even for the summer, she's like I'm just taking a month off and for those of you all who are new, like go back and listen to my old episodes, but that doesn't mean that I won't be dropping, but I'll just be dropping old posts. Do you know that?

Tasia Marie:

I really feel like resonated with you guys and I was just like, damn, she really taking a break. Yeah, like, girl, I'm trying to listen. You bring some good ass episodes to the platform. Like get your ass back here. But I really love that because she really reminded me like in the midst of everything, in the grand scheme of everything, you do have to take a moment to just be still and take everything in. So, yeah, just being able to take that break. Like we started really high and how many episodes did we have? Like 13?

Aliya Cheyanne:

the first season nine and a half.

Tasia Marie:

Oh, she's like neglecting it.

Aliya Cheyanne:

But 10 was like a like a two minute bonus. Goodbye, we'll take her break.

Tasia Marie:

But like it was just knowing when your cap is, like just knowing when it is, and I'm glad that we do have help this season because I know you were doing a whole lot. You were doing everything. So I'm glad that we do have help this season moving forward and I really feel like we're going to build this shit out.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Yeah, I'm really excited and serious. Yeah, I'm excited and just piggybacking on what you said about the podcast you like and her announcing that she's taking a break. She's one that I like called Relationship by Kami Crawford, and she has a lot going on. Like she co-hosts Catfish with Neve I don't even watch Catfish anymore, but I know she does not oh, wow, that's her. Okay, yeah, and a bunch of other things, including the podcast, and she just had a heavy summer coming up with a lot of stuff and she was like I am taking a break, but don't fret Like we'll be basically recycling past episodes and to just keep it going and I like that idea too.

Aliya Cheyanne:

I'm like, hmm, is that something we can think about for the future too, when we go on our break and also too, because with Balance Black Girl, even though she's taking a break, she did a quick little check in.

Tasia Marie:

I like that. Like you know, she was like I don't have any guests this week, no co-hosts. I just wanted to sit in and just check in with you guys. It was like a 23 minute episode and she was just, you know, updating where she was. I was like, okay, I like this.

Aliya Cheyanne:

I like that too, because I think it's like it's not just about us coming up here to talk, like we really want to use this platform to inspire, to inform, to like be your besties, talking to you while you're doing whatever, while you're listening to the pod, like I know for me, like I love listening to pods while I'm cooking, while I'm cleaning, while I'm walking, like I just enjoy them, and it's like having someone else in the room, kind of yeah, sometimes you're learning, sometimes you're listening to things you agree with or you disagree with. It starts conversation. So I like the idea of doing a check in, because y'all are checking for us and we want to make sure that we're checking for you too. So Exactly.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Yep, I love that, so Just a little yeah, so what happened my lighting fell. Technical difficulties. We were joking earlier about another podcast that we like called hold for maintenance with Lynette and Sim and how there was one episode where like somebody kept coming in and out opening the door, everything, and it got to a point where they were just like it got real quiet on the last one because that door was extra loud. And I could just imagine that they all kind of looked to cut their eyes like Right.

Tasia Marie:

Because every time really nigga like it was yeah.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Come on now. So, yeah, so technical difficulties, that happens, but if you're on video, you caught that. If you're on audio, you're wondering what's happening. Don't worry about it Everything.

Tasia Marie:

But um.

Aliya Cheyanne:

But on that note, I guess we can. All the things are happening right now, all the things. So I guess we can kind of just jump into a couple of things that we're grateful for right now, while Tasia, just I can go. So I think a couple of things that I'm grateful for right now are Just reestablishing a routine for myself. So I spoke about this last season I had more time on my hands because I was on a career break, so I had gotten down a really excellent routine that felt really good to me in the mornings. And trying to reestablish that now, when like the first thing I got to worry about in the morning is work, is like it's been an adjustment but it's definitely doable and possible. So I've realized that maybe like planning my schedule and stuff digitally does like it might not be for me, like some people can do the digital planners and stuff and it might work for a time, but I realized it's just not for me.

Aliya Cheyanne:

So I went back old school to writing, so like using a physical planner again, not just for my day to day, but also like more structured journaling. So I love prompts. Y'all know I love prompts. I have a whole journal with prompts, but the structured format that I've been using kind of checks in on everything like, how did you sleep for the day, how does your body feel, how does your mind feel, what are your priorities for today? And it has like a morning part and then an evening part Like what's the memory from today, what's something you did well, and that's kind of the format for every day, and I feel like that's kind of been keeping me on task with what I want to focus on for the day and how I achieved that.

Aliya Cheyanne:

And I'm using a separate physical one for projects. So we talked about a bunch of creative products that we're both working on right now, and using that has kind of helped me to focus on, like getting those things done outside of my nine to five. So I'm grateful for, like, finding structure again. That's something that like kind of alters for me a little bit, depending on the day, and I feel like I'm getting back to a place where I have balance again. So I'm super grateful for that. I'm grateful for my granny oh, she's amazing, and by granny I mean my dad's mom, so I had to make sure that was clarified. Yeah, that might be something for another day, but we have to specify Chelle, yeah, like she has always been so supportive and encouraging and patient with me in many ways and she listens to all of these ideas I have about things I want to do and is very supportive, and a lot of the blessings I feel like I have and that I've received in my life have been through her.

Aliya Cheyanne:

So I'm feeling grateful for her today too. What about you, boo?

Tasia Marie:

I'm definitely grateful for you, and in more ways than one, but more specifically and this will come out throughout the season but you know exactly why I'm grateful for you, because you're definitely a part of my healing journey moving forward. You're a big, big reason, so I'm definitely grateful for you.

Aliya Cheyanne:

I'm grateful for you, girl.

Tasia Marie:

No, seriously, thank you, and I'm also grateful for flexibility in more ways than one, just being able to go with the flow, just get up every day in a perfect day, but like being flexible and knowing that it'll get done, and I'm grateful for less anxiety.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Yeah, yeah, that's a big thing.

Tasia Marie:

Yeah, like less anxiety, not saying that there's no anxiety at all, but I'm grateful for feeling less anxiety, less anxious.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Yeah, I feel you on that for sure.

Tasia Marie:

Yeah, yeah, I've got a lot to fill in on those parts, but those fill-ins will come in the later episodes this season.

Aliya Cheyanne:

Yeah, so stay tuned, definitely. I was talking to a friend recently who supports the podcast and listens and we were talking about how anxiety manifests differently in Black women. I think there was an NYU study that came out recently, like within the last year. I found out about it through TikTok but of course there have been like articles written around the study that was published.

Aliya Cheyanne:

But a lot of times for us it comes up as like irritability. For some of us, like we completely move away from our bodies and what I mean by that is like we kind of dissociate in a way. So sometimes it's dissociation, sometimes it's irritability, sometimes it's like irritation, like becoming very like snappy over the smallest, smallest things. It just looks differently in Black women, sometimes Not saying that those things also don't show up in other people who experience anxiety, but oftentimes it's mist, like depression and other things, like it's often misdiagnosed or mist in us because it shows up differently and we can talk about all of the medical reasons around that.

Aliya Cheyanne:

But I firmly believe that a lot of that is just like spiritual too, like living in our body, how we've had to show up and mask how we really feel in the face of great stress and in the face of great danger. So I think yeah. So it's just been interesting navigating that too, and anxiety is something that I shall go with too. I always know I'm getting anxious when I'm either like completely shutting down and dissociating or I am extremely irritable over the smallest things. I know it's anxiety. So learning to manage that has been a process.

Tasia Marie:

Yeah, but you've been amazing with it. I try. No, you've definitely been amazing, yeah, so yes, that's what we're grateful for.

Aliya Cheyanne:

So we're not gonna make this one a long one. We'll wrap it up with what's to come. So, of course, what's to come are more episodes dropping hopefully weekly, I hope. So one of the new things now that we've said is, of course we're on video so you can catch us on YouTube if you want to see what's going down and see our faces. But also just want to say, like, if you see us one episode, we got one fit on. The second episode, we got the same fit on it's because it was recorded on the same day. So don't judge Life, be life in. So it is what it is. But we're excited for more episodes to come. We're excited for Mikaela Ray to join us once she can. We're excited to catch up with you guys and all the like hot topics that are happening, what's going on with us and, yeah, we're just grateful that you're still rocking with us and for your support and more to come. Stay tuned.
