Transformation Tip: “Empathy is like giving someone a psychological hug.” - Lawrence J

Empathy Strength:

  • You intuitively feel something before it is expressed
  • You will feel others’ emotions as if they are your own
  • Instinctive and powerful
  • Can help translate the functional to the relational

How to manage the empathy talent well:

  • Be in an emotionally healthy environment
  • Need to have good emotional boundaries

Blind Spots:

  • Can turn co-dependant
  • The need to feel needed
  • Abusers will prey on and take advantage of this talent
  • People’s emotions tend to stick to you
  • Mistake other’s emotions as your own

Transformation Application:

1.) If you don't naturally have empathy: before you talk, imagine what it’s like in the other person’s shoes.

2.) If you do have empathy: Practice at the end of your day or after you’ve had an empathetic moment, reminding yourself that it is not your issue, and release their emotions off of yourself.
