Davey:

Welcome to Whose turn is it anyway podcast about board games which I'm joined by Chris Tambo Rob ola and of course me first player. Lucky you guys. So today's episode is going to be about we're going to personify boardgames which will make more sense later First of all, you guys been playing games lately? What have we got to the table.

Rob:

We went to JP's last week, last weekend for his birthday for his birthday weekend we played a couple of games and I've got to say we played Civ new dawn and I love that yeah, it was good it's the right kind of wait for me I think those games can be very heavy and very tactical. Both things I don't like or enjoy about getting so for me it was it was fast paced it there was enough complexity there for me to kind of for it to be a challenge for me but not too much that I ran away scared of I really enjoyed it it was good fun and watching you and JP kick the crap out of each other for four rounds it was absolutely hilarious so yeah Civ new dawn

Davey:

Yeah, I said it was good game. I don't enjoy it as much as the original but I can see it's pretty good elements I can see why people enjoy it so much.

Rob:

Definitely no I really enjoyed it not too not too difficult to get to get to grips with but the complex gateway

Davey:

He's getting into the boardgame relations already they're going to be your number one is what boardgame we're going to come off with

Rob:

But no there was enough there that I enjoyed it and it was fast paced. Some of these games can be quite long winded quite quite crunchy. But know the turns were quick and fun and watching you and JP just fight for four rounds, which was hilarious, because you were getting instantly annoyed at each other for doing the thing that you did that turn. And yeah, he's never ever said no fun. Certainly don't for me. That was great fun

Davey:

How about you. Chris got anything to say well recently or

Chris P:

Yeah, me and Tambo and my brother ended up playing Outer Rim, which was good. Yeah, that was very close match. I think we're all on three turns apart from winning one party to one party or you're an extra turn away. Two turns

Davey:

Two Oh, no.

Chris P:

That was good. Fun.

Tambo:

It was good fun, all I had to do was drop off one cargo and pass the planet, and I forgot to do it

Rob:

So close to winning. I love our game. It's good. I love every game we've played it's been close. Now it's my one of my new favourite games. Yeah,

Davey:

Definitely having the objectives and the expansion has helped. Yeah, What about yourself Tambo?

Tambo:

I've played lots of things. I've been playing Ticket to Ride at the board game Cafe when we went it wasn't it? Yeah.

Davey:

I did think Frosthaven they were gonna use that same But I would like to mention I know we're big Gloomhaven fans here. I've actually put a table so I thought I'd just play with Josh, my nephew would just get Jaws of the Lion on. And I won't say how much better that is natural. I would just it's easy like book method. Yeah, they did really really well. to get to a table isn't it? That makes the better game in my opinion. It's just you just put the book on the table. Yeah, and I set it up and you get on with it. And that was I'm just really enjoying it and it's just sitting

Tambo:

They didn't have anything they should have. They got two big books isn't it Frosthaven. Yes. Yeah. And the story is just like really good. There's interest in Gloomhaven so it's quite easy to follow the story to get lost. And yeah, I'm just much buffering it's

Davey:

It's definitely a bite sized Gloomhaven which isn't really a bad thing. The only thing that I was quite disappointed with was the shops a little bit too basic for me I wanted the shop to have a little bit more because by the end of August had no money we were like

Tambo:

By myself and what the second part of part of the shop I expect Yeah. Well I suppose when you play Gloomhaven you play that the shop is tiny, isn't it? Yeah, but yeah, I'm really enjoying it.

Davey:

But you can always turn that in to premium and after as well. Yeah. Into Frosthaven even

Tambo:

So, yeah, so firstly, everything else all of those will be definitely buying I think. Yeah, the biggest downside

Rob:

To Frosthaven is Yeah, far away. We only when you're playing it's fine. Yeah, that's it. But the setup is, I mean, you tend to get to Kerley's like an hour before set up. And then we're packing it away for a good 45 minutes. Yeah. You know, and it's already each scenario is what three or four hours sometimes Yeah,

Davey:

Has to be a day game in my opinion. Yeah, we've we've just worried then find it hard to get to the table when we first got it to the table. We're playing like we were just settling it and playing if like Sunday or Sunday did that religiously and then we've just fallen out of it and then trying to get it back to the table again for the night there

Tambo:

Was loads about as well because it is quick and you can play I'll play like three scenarios at a time. Yeah,

Davey:

Lot quicker. Yeah, we I played over lockdown. A guy on Facebook basically gifted me for free. So I do need to pass it on because I've still got it in there. So I'm gonna pass it on for free at some point as well. seems suspicious. Yeah, no, yeah. No news was sent. Some guy feeling really generous around Christmas time to send it to me. So we ended up playing via zoom or via zoom, I think online and I just basically sent them all their packs, so they could have all their cards and stuff. And then I just had the board and moving their characters around. works actually really well for because that I could just have a camera above it, and it was fine. Whereas for doing Gloomhaven

Rob:

We did some Marvel champions. Yeah, sure. Good fun. Yeah. Because technically you just need your character and Yeah, well, especially if we're locked down when we couldn't do anything. Yeah,

Davey:

So to deal with. I've actually been really slack I haven't really played any games other than JP's birthday. I've been playing computer games I've been a traitor. Have played the new Star Wars game but I'm

Chris P:

It's not being a traitor, we're all...

Davey:

General here yes true. Any kind of game

Rob:

What games did you guys play after Civ? When?

Davey:

I say no, I do lie I'll play Doom with Kerley and Jamie recently we were meant to play a computer game with each other then we all just went oh shall we just play a boardgame because Kerley got a nice I say cheap copy on the money version of Dune with all the bling wasn't allowed any drinks near the game. So Kerley dehydrated me to get by one VP so you know it was a shrivelled mess The opposite of the Harkonen shrivelled down like

Tambo:

That we lost they weren't close Kerley literally drew a card at the end what are the what's the battleship? What were they called? Oh the injury injury he picked one up in the game to actually pay for at the end. Yeah, so lucky. It was a good one anyway, but that just boosted it loads. Yeah,

Davey:

This I think it was I should have ended at the time before and I could have I could have got a VP and it would have been well, it probably would have been a drop and then curling my one on water. I think it is the tiebreaker. But then yeah, otherwise one VP

Rob:

Great game. I'm amazed that have come in considering the Lost Ruins of Arnak and Dune are very similar games by the feel of them is completely different.

Davey:

They're both they're both actually well themed Dune has the old old combat side of it and then obviously you've got the whole Indiana Jones style of Lost Ruins kind of go out exploring and

Rob:

Considering they are the same game in principle

Davey:

Very very similar they're both It's strange how soon they both came out how similar they both were as well. It was like within they're quite nice but that's our like within like four months of each other.

Rob:

I checked that people Yeah no

Davey:

I remember my name literally. Okay, well let's jump into the main section So somethng us humans like to do is personify a lot of things, we always do it with animals we always like they were like, Oh, this is animals feeling this emotion. This is doing this so I thought it'd be quite fun to personify and humanise our boardgames. What I mean by that is abuse. No, we're not talking I don't have board games in a bag and over a bridge okay. We are going to ask you some questions and I want to have some you know, it's going to be like a Dr. Phil. But Dr. Davey hour only one so. JPS got his chaise longues on I've just got my gaming chair sort of be safe or no.

Rob:

Maybe sat on the sofa like this room.

Davey:

So lets go on the first one shall we and it'd be discussions you've got that'd be some set rules so you got to say why

Rob:

I have a reason why how strict all these rules are they that there's at least the last one. Okay? So there aren't any rules.

Davey:

And yeah, there's not many rules. That's my rules. Here we go This this style. So what boardgame Would you date? What do you think is going to be good? to date? What ballgame would you take out and you think it's gonna be a good company and would see you through the night wherever you think it could be something quick and easy or what is your personal preference? So mine I'm going to go first. Okay, so mine probably is going to Bitoku because it's quite calming it's got a nice aesthetic it's it's kind of like a fun game I think would wouldn't mind splitting the bill and, you know, I wouldn't mind if we both went back and did end up going back home with it. Okay. Fair enough. Probably guys never heard or don't know, you know? Yeah. Yeah, there we go. So it's trying to avoid me being shallow. How about yourself Rob?

Rob:

I'm trying to think I'm trying to think about what they want to do you want to fun like just just a cheap fun day? Yeah. Or do you want something that's gonna kind of hit you? Yeah, you know, just Yeah, so I'd probably

Chris P:

Go for something like Mansions of Madness? But she's a bit of a freak.

Rob:

You get very confused while while you're

Chris P:

While you're enjoying the time together, but it was an all and you've got to work it out.

Rob:

Like a mystery tentacle. That's a great shout. That is really good shout

Davey:

You might not get home. Or you might get kidnapped.

Rob:

Might go insane At the end of it. Yeah, exactly.

Davey:

Your first day was like, Oh, yeah.

Rob:

You want something fun? Right? You wanna have a good time?

Davey:

Yeah, of course. Right? Maybe

Rob:

A bit dancing? Yeah, maybe some nice food for me then. Yeah, right. And it will go towards the drinking game. But Too many Bones

Davey:

Too many bones. It's an innuendo

Rob:

That it's a bit silly. It's a bit fun there is there is a mystery there as in as a puzzle to kind of figure out that you're going to have a good competition you're guaranteed to have a good time yeah, you're guaranteed to last maybe cry at the end. You know for me, me and JP played Riffle recently I think they said going on went on a date but we did but that's another story entirely outside of that. We both kind of was like we forgot how much fun this is to play. Like we talk about a lot is a great game, but like I love it. I absolutely love it. And if there's no point of love at the end of the day, you go what's the point in going so?

Davey:

Yeah, it's gonna be old school romantic Rob Too Many Boness for me. Nice.

Chris P:

I'm still reeling from a second playthrough with

Rob:

The rules but only game on the Game in chat.

Davey:

I know. I'm Tambo There we go. Well

Tambo:

Marvel champions so you can always just play as Black Widow couldn't you Yeah, or someone like that or it's good solo good solo Yeah, anyway, you can build the deck anyway you like, you know if you want aggression, you know go for it.

Chris P:

Some candles some smooth jazz.

Tambo:

Yeah, that'd be go. That's That was weird. That was

Rob:

I thought you were gonna go Nemesis because you're a glutton Yeah, Nemesis is the German dungeon if You enjoy

Tambo:

Rewind. We can do it again.

Davey:

Yeah, listeners let us know yours as well. Why not? As long as they're not too weird. We post them up. So our next one go on the other way. So rather than your desert island boardgame. It's what game would you like to be trapped on a desert island with Oh God. So it's like was you in the board game but the board games as if it's a person, right? So you want to think about what that board games bringing to the table? And you're trapped on a desert island with them. Oh god,

Rob:

Oh my god. Yeah, depends whether you want to get like real specified route or whether it's up to you varied route

Davey:

It's up to you It's whatever you want what do you think that boardgames going to bring to this desert island that you could spend every hour for your last days of your life? Or maybe the board games resourceful and keeps you alive? You never know. So again personify So yeah, this game

Chris P:

That for those that had a lot of miniatures, yeah, are those miniatures people that they come with the

Davey:

Personality, if anything, it's got split personality disorder, and they're

Chris P:

Very, very good to the very light. Yeah,

Davey:

Exactly. So lots of parts of that boardgame. Coming out so fine. I'm gonna go really cliche of it. Robinson Crusoe. Because it's gonna know

Rob:

How to survive.

Davey:

It's going to know all the answers. And if you've ever played that game, it's pretty damn hard when it gets hard levels. So it's going to be like making hammock out of I don't know, a leaf and you'll be living cushty your days be fine. Robinson Crusoe is mine. That's fine. As long as you're not cheating. I'd go Star Wars Outer Rim. Yeah. Are you going to try and fly off the desert island?

Chris P:

Just go to a different island

Rob:

Just by the ghost

Davey:

If you think

Rob:

You think right, if you're trapped, say, I'm trapped on a desert island.

Davey:

They'll probably sell you for cargo, if anything. But like, they'll smuggle you stuff. They probably smuggling you though. They're probably going to human trafficking,

Rob:

But you didn't stay the rules of the game. So smuggling everything I need. The bringing all sorts of stuff. And if worst case scenario happens, I joined the crew. Join the crew and I head

Davey:

Off for the best case scenario. Like what if? Well, that shows

Rob:

The difference between

Davey:

I know the Star Wars universe and people get screwed over left right.

Rob:

I'm already stuck on a desert island.

Davey:

That's true. And he's up in space having a good time. Exactly. Next to Han Solo in carbonite.

Rob:

Yeah. Yeah, I think it'd be Star Wars.

Davey:

Cool. Nice. Okay.

Tambo:

I'm gonna say Takenoko. Again and again. Yeah. Okay, so you got Gardner? Yeah. So you can grow wherever you like. Alright, it's mainly bamboo so eventually water water so yeah, and then the centre colony Panda, which looks cute with big cuddle, right? Yeah. Oh, yeah, there we go. Yeah, good shops.

Chris P:

Fair enough. I always forget the name of the game. Birds. Wingspan, because you can eat all the birds there's no previous look at all the fish and all the cherries and things and all

Davey:

The food waking up in the morning? Yeah.

Chris P:

And all the expansion so loads of birds and it'd be endless.

Davey:

They could bring you worms and grain and whatever ones fish yeah yeah, just general rodents.

Rob:

In Demolition Man, they eat rat burgers. He says good. So you're that hungry. Really? Anything? That'd be fine.

Davey:

So Chris limited living with the birds from Wingspan. If you try and force them together, you might want to get off the desert island as well.

Chris P:

I don't think that's how it will just be ripping off the birds

Unknown:

Pterodactyls.

Davey:

As we've all heard them, let us know what you think at home or in your car or wherever you are now. Next one. We're gonna go to towards the darker side. board game, which you use to help you cover up a murder. Yeah,

Rob:

I'm gonna steal it from Nemesis.

Davey:

You're gonna use an alien. Alien. Alien did it is a blame?

Rob:

Game is evil. That game is evil. Exactly. But that game is evil. And that would that game would help you eradicate mankind but have a really good time doing it?

Davey:

Yeah. Yeah, so it's not one but it's gonna be like manslaughter is going to be a series of murders.

Rob:

That's what Nemesis Yes, true,

Davey:

It is true. We know Rob's in a remote missions now he was acting nice guy.

Rob:

Oh yeah that's right secretly a serial killer yeah Nemesis nice.

Tambo:

I think mine would probably be Chronicles of crime in Chronicles of crime figures is when use the app and you get a crime scene you put the app and you go run as doesn't proceed you got to solve the crime. I've made a couple of times and I can and you go around asking witnesses and stuff I can never win it some shooting it's really difficult. A lot how many profit? So I don't know if it goes up either.

Davey:

Believe you though,

Tambo:

Yeah. And I know it's based off an app. So you download it and you literally get like two minutes on a crime scene and you've got stuff around and you've got a shout out what kind of things just things just like blood, like a knife on the floor and he said people get these words in front of them and then you tie it all up. And then when you do that, and you go around asking different witnesses and you try to figure out okay, yeah, it's really quite fun.

Davey:

Yeah, that one so basically, you're hoping that they know how a crime is done, therefore, they know how to correct cover up. You're gonna use them to pretty much I don't know

Tambo:

Game and then figure it out

Davey:

That's kind of what I'm hoping. Yeah, that makes sense. Yeah, cool.

Chris P:

I'd either take it very literally and use a game of TI just let the cops play for about eight hours then I just disappear given the whole day just trying to figure out this game. Playing that and then I'll bugger off. Or to go into the game I probably use I'll go back another one Mansions but the level of Mansions where you are on the blimp, and it's a crime and you've got to figure out who's murdered the person around him talking about talking to everyone but then I just again be a little sneaky person about the

Tambo:

Same dynamics

Rob:

So technically Chris has done it the other way around too much. Yeah. Because we went insane and when I first Yeah, then lady getting

Davey:

Or he's just working on a date with Mansions. They've murdered someone and now he's and then being dragged along to cover up the murder with Mansions. Yeah, that's how crazy yeah, yeah. She's a great what a great

Rob:

What would yours be?

Davey:

So mine annoyingly I did think of Too Many Bones just because the size of the box Just sit on your shelf. We never played Too Many Bones not getting that one out. Definitely. No. That's a dog. Rusty. But for personifying board games. Really weird is your question. I know it's really weird, but Fog Of Love mainly because if that person loves you so much that they'll do anything for you then you're going to be right you know, you know they're going to you can trust them. And the fact that you can hide the body together and she's never going to mention it

Rob:

You've put way too much thought into that

Davey:

I know, just put thought into my questions. Right so, what game would you take to go meet your parents nice trustworthy, kind of you know is not going to out all your secrets out swear in front of them religiously. Or you know, kind of embarrassed at the mines gonna be probably Rummikub

Rob:

I can literally see Kerley throwing something at the wall, fucking Rummikub!

Davey:

Again yeah, some bits are confusing, but it kind of it'll keep keep people interested. And then plus, you know, instantly if people don't like it. That's fine. Just shower you know, Kerley's not my Dad so it's fine

Chris P:

Doesn't matter if he's not your Dad. You're still disappear. I know.

Rob:

Mine would be Carrooka Oh, yeah. Mainly because my mum has played Carrooka with my eight year old daughter. And she had a great time. Yeah, there you go. For me that's a fun, easy to understand, difficult to master but you can see what you have to do fairly, fairly quickly, fairly straightforward. Yeah. For me a game of Carrooka

Davey:

Carrooka fun for the whole family. Yeah. And

Rob:

She really enjoyed it which surprised me you know, because my mum doesn't play board games in any shape well but yeah when I come home from work and she sat there playing

Davey:

Pretty loosely classes as a board game isn't a skill based game

Rob:

That's a rarity. It's there again. So yeah, for me that would be that or if you're going strictly

Davey:

No, I don't mind, can be as loose as you want. Love letter. Yeah, yeah.

Rob:

Fun game quick rounds. couldn't be anything too in depth with my mom. She'd lose interest very quickly. So yeah, Love letter. Something you can play quickly would be that'd be that'd be right up or straight. Yeah, fine.

Tambo:

I'm gonna say Scrabble. Yeah. Now. See, why not? That's gonna be a person of many words. Yeah, very intelligent. Yeah, you have to be Scrabble.

Davey:

I still play scrabble now and again. Yeah. So

Tambo:

As long as youve got a dictionary. It's fine. To work on a two word lists you need on the Scrabble. And let's face it, it's made lots of money, isn't it? People most people will pass rich Yeah, so wouldn't have to work ever again. Yeah,

Davey:

There we go. Right. So we're gonna go meta now as well. What boardgame would you play a board game with? Who do you think is going to be like quite graceful at playing a board game? Obviously when you play a board game.

Rob:

Andy Kerley

Davey:

Because obviously you want a game that probably isn't going to flip table so you wouldn't want..

Rob:

Why are you looking at me?

Davey:

It's mainly because I can't see Chris because you don't want to that's you're not going to rage or flip out. You probably wouldn't want like Twilight Imperium or like Risk you probably wouldn't want a war game with you play a board game with because you're probably gonna be Lairy.

Tambo:

Twilight Imperium Versus I don't know. Game of Thrones. Yeah, the longest game in the game

Davey:

Yeah, yeah, well, maybe you want that if you'd like a nice contented board game so I'm gonna play with Food Chain Magnate just because of how contended that is. And we're gonna play Weather Machine just for the absolute brain burn

Tambo:

I haven't played Food Chain Magnate, I know Weather Machine's great but

Rob:

Cos you were gutted as well

Davey:

Weather Machine's great brain burner, but Food Chain Magnate is really aggressive. And you can pretty much know you've lost right the early and it can be really bad. Which is why they got the expansion. They'll catch up. Right? No expansion. Yeah. But we haven't played with that because we played once and JP sold it. So yeah, that went out the window. yeah. I really enjoyed it. I want to play again.

Rob:

I think I've got my two. Yeah. Yeah. I'm going... Perseverance. Okay, yeah. So you're playing with Perseverance. I'm playing with Perseverance? Cool. We're playing Game of Thrones.

Davey:

Because of what because of the neighbours variants as well.

Rob:

No, just because I think the the if you could turn the dinosaurs towards Westeros instead of your own camps. Yeah. And then the armies of Westeros rise to face the oncoming horde of dinosaurs

Chris P:

Mental images in my mind,

Rob:

I think I think me and Perseverance would win.

Davey:

Westeros if you're going to try and team up with Perseverance is like Game of Thrones element. Yeah, I could guess. You could. You could Yeah, Velociraptor did turn around and

Rob:

Say no, I'm not going that way. So I'm like, I'm like a cowboy of dinosaurs, just hurting this massive Not Cowboys and Aliens, it's cowboys and dinosaurs. Cowboys and dinosaurs and ice and just hurding this this dinosaur rampage? Somebody else's Island rather than my own? And I mean, what the hell is three dragons gonna do against an army of dinosaurs? Let's be honest. There we go. I think that'd be good team up for me.

Davey:

Yeah, there we go. Well,

Tambo:

Yeah, so terraform Mars Yeah, with On Mars. Well, it can't just get confusing like Inception. Terraforming Mars would

Davey:

Actually Terraform Mars be no put on Mars. Right so maybe you play no but now you terraform the Mars you can now live on Mars. You're fine. Yeah, so you would need On Mars

Tambo:

right because

Davey:

machines and then it should true true yeah, I'm just thinking well I can help you inhabit Mars they just be quicker. Right? Just be like a quick game with TM Yeah,

Tambo:

possibly. yeah

Rob:

We Terraform was oh no we're already guaranteed when

Tambo:

I say that oh god yeah

Chris P:

I take all the heroes from Champions and take them on the Zombiecide pretty nice

Rob:

Think the cost of it very few people have

Davey:

Yeah yeah actually with Marvel when actually with zombies as well as yeah yeah yeah

Chris P:

Yeah just take those heroes and villains and smash it that just I'll just be fine yeah I'm

Rob:

good population

Davey:

Cheaper Marvel Zombies

Tambo:

Zombies like going to as long as like games that like invade with all the aliens obviously still like the newest the newest one we played was the second edition yeah put them in see see what happens yeah why not? Yeah I think the second edition probably went too far I think

Rob:

I think we were finally you can play as the Queen holding a mini gun. Yeah,

Tambo:

But then again you get turrets and space guns and and you get a big alien, whats the big guy called? Abomination and invade yeah he's the whole nesting thing so it's different.

Davey:

That's what this one's about? Okay you weren't there? Very random episode this

Rob:

This is like the version of. This is mine clash podcast. You weren't there for the would you rather that was Yeah, my brain hurts. I'm scared and I want to go home

Davey:

On to our next one. What boardgame would you trust your life with? Who do you think is going to be trustworthy enough? Maybe you don't want a boardgame that's going to be Stabby stabby, you want one that you knows there's set stable. I'm gonna go really ancient. I want to go chess. It's kind of like an old guy catching you, isn't it? It's probably not going to be just to come back. Yeah.

Tambo:

How's that? Gonna be good?

Davey:

I'm going back on what I've said I think I've said it. Yeah.

Tambo:

Just me. Surely Queen would be the best one right?

Davey:

Maybe Spirit Island in Spirit Island you can trust with your godson it's like Yeah, exactly. Spirit Island or the elemental gods. Yeah, and everyone's wants to be back. You've got like tribes with you. Anything goes down. You've got your brothers and sisters and spirit and spirit and spirit and your Gods got thank God

Tambo:

I know mine. Yeah, it'll be Die Hard Nakatomi Heist's my boardgame.

Chris P:

Exactly exactly yeah, that's it

Davey:

He'd save you with his socks off yeah,

Tambo:

So that's a pretty simple straightforward but that's why

Davey:

Doesn't need explaining

Tambo:

Not the best board game in the world but it's good fun if you like Die Hard

Davey:

That theme Yeah.

Tambo:

Always wants to understand Have you played it? Yeah a few times. It's good fun. But OP when you're done I suppose. Good right.

Rob:

My game would be Descent. Descent. Yeah,

Davey:

You've been avoiding Descent. All evening I don't know

Rob:

Because I always talk about it. I love it love it. Because it's there's always stuff that goes wrong right and in the world of life and everything else there's always going to be some things that are good some things about some things are gonna go great some things you knew that for me on a personal level? Yeah, Descent has always been there for me. Yeah. And if we personify this is for the badass people that are kick the living crap out of anything. So yeah, I'm gonna cower behind the Senate is your spirit animal

Davey:

who's gonna

Tambo:

Just don't go charging off and open up too many doors up all right. Yes, yeah, stage by side and you work together. You wait you wait you find it

Rob:

Seems to be a theme and most games that we play. They just go

Davey:

Are you the Leroy Jenkins guy. Yes. kind of start screaming Leroy Jenkins and open the door

Chris P:

Been doing one thing for two rounds now that's enough. No, we haven't.

Davey:

Tambo believe leading your Descent guide stray running off, down some

Rob:

Guys come back. How great

Davey:

How about you Chris?

Chris P:

If you could go for something like longevity in my life I'd probably go for Gloomhaven or something?

Tambo:

Yeah. Which character is the most

Chris P:

Oh yeah I put enough obviously. I'll probably go for my favourite things to do is to summon everything under the sun. Yeah bring it to be my friend, so Gloomaven but the summon class from Gloomhaven

Davey:

Summon friends

Chris P:

Shadow splitting machine. It's brilliant.

Davey:

What boardgame would you bet on in a fight? So what? Who would you choose? You can go either way. Who's a win? But who would you pick to be in that fight for you? Chris

Chris P:

Yeah, I pick Resident Evil I think there's two. Yes, yes. Yeah. Played that. And it was just the hardest thing in the world to try to win. So I pick it to lose against obviously, that was a bet against that so yeah, that'd be me. Nice.

Davey:

I'm probably gonna go for Scythe, just because the size of the big box size. It's going to win most fighters heavyweight contender I'd say so. But it's gonna do it in quite peaceful way. Not asking me that. It's not gonna be that hard of a fight. No one's saying it to you. So really quite nice spa. Spa. Yeah, exactly. Why not? So size, size for me. And I'll bet on Scythe.

Chris P:

It's a really old game, if you're going to, if you're going to bet against something to drive you mental bet on something to drive your mental. Atmosphere came from I think it's about the 90s or the 80s or something, I think. And it's an old game was based on a VHS tape that comes with it. And you put that into your TV and it's like an hour long VHS and it plays and at random intervals, it will interrupt what the game is doing. And then it will just like shout at you and tell you something. I played at one time I played a virtual one because getting the physical one is obviously just didn't happen. But it's just about every five minutes you just go

Davey:

It's a proper 90's recording

Chris P:

You're an asshole, and go to the black hole, and you're like, Okay, well, I'll just not play for 10 minutes. That when else do stuff that's going to drive you insane. The best one

Rob:

Ashes, I think as it is a purely combative fighting game. Yeah. I think it'd be buying up for a fight. Is that fair fight

Chris P:

It's gonna be fairly lopsided.

Rob:

It's a bit like the UFC. Right matches. Styles make fights.

Chris P:

Let's get I've never played it. I'm still waiting. Rob I know there was One in the morning Bob.

Rob:

She's now Come on wake up and it's all good. Yeah, like a proper fighting game. So or Dice Thrown?

Davey:

Dice Thrown, nice, right?

Rob:

That'd be a proper combative game. No, like, you know, just just

Davey:

Dice in their gloves. Yeah. dirty fighting

Rob:

I think that'd be quite good as well. Cool.

Tambo:

Can't remember the name of it though. Yes. How about Too Many Bones

Davey:

We're not talking about ones youd date,

Tambo:

Too Many Bones one, whats the Gladiator one called? The arena one

Davey:

Oh, Hoplomachus. That one? Yeah, that'd be a good one

Rob:

Would be a great one.

Chris P:

Yeah,

Rob:

The Roman army of people just

Davey:

Thumb out. Going up or down? Yeah. Empora T

Chris P:

Are you not entertained? Yeah, nice.

Davey:

Cool. So that's coming to the end of our some fun board games. I know. It's been a weird and wacky one. Alright, well

Rob:

That's good that my brain hurts.

Davey:

But yeah, we'll definitely be interested to see what everyone else thinks or says or even if they care Yeah moving on Leading on to our next segment we've got to call Just Two because of legal purposes of course but we will know the game it's pretty much just one but instead of one clue we get to each just works better with three people because it's all about board games.

Rob:

Everybody listening for game this side

Chris P:

okay, that one right okay,

Davey:

okay

Chris P:

so we're just gonna write a word, two words, two words in relation to that particular thing

Davey:

And then if any of them match, you have to delete those words

Chris P:

Based on what I know of it

Tambo:

And I'm really glad I did. Okay, so dunno if that's how you spell it

Rob:

That is brilliant. That is what I know of it. We'll go you first then T then me t The weapon that death wields.

Davey:

yeah, I do I have it yeah. Go on. So we've got tractors and Russians we've got mechs and oil deaths and weapon so because of the tractors I instantly think Scythe because I remember I made a 3d model of some cool looking tractors for you that was going to 3d print, then you quit, spent hours making these I was going to 3d print for him because you hate the fact that mine looked like tractors Oh a scythe Yeah, Okay, nice. Okay,

Tambo:

Mechs. All those mechs Yeah. Oh, it was well the resource Yes. There's

Davey:

Yeah, makes sense. Cool. Who wants to guess next

Rob:

T because I've already guessed

Chris P:

For those playing at home the game is Wingspan

Tambo:

Good Yeah, sure. I'm happy that's a different question. Don't go down that road

Chris P:

We've got a couch

Davey:

Let's have a scroll then. Yeah. Cool. Okay, I very nearly wrote that as well. So can read out the clues Tambo, to everyone listening?

Tambo:

Okay, we've got Habitat, song. Okay,

Rob:

Why are you giving me the evil eye, I've only read one clue?

Tambo:

Worm? Yeah, nests and feathers. This is easy, Wingspan

Davey:

Yeah,

Tambo:

There we go. How to have a few more than that.

Davey:

A few more. That's nice. Moving on What's everyone got coming up, then? This is the penultimate turn. And we're going to be talking about anything that we've got coming up doesn't necessarily have to be a boardgame. But let's face it, it probably is going to it probably is going to be. I'll start. I'm not gonna talk about boardgame even though we've we've got so much coming up. We've got the 24 hour board game obviously, in a couple of months. We've got Expo which hopefully there'll be some content coming up for the expo as well. So we've got a little cheeky secret for everyone there. And more general gaming really? Pretty much yeah, I can't really pinpoint one thing so I'm gonna get some different Diablo four I'm excited about Yeah, I bought a screen for the fucking game. Was I just pretty much. Ultra wides really good with Diablo

Rob:

We've been playing three and I can't wait.

Davey:

Yes, it's um it's cross play as well. So I can play with you guys. But remotely not in person remotely but in fact it doesn't have local co op

Rob:

Just rather have you not on my screen,

Davey:

It's got a local Co Op we could like do the whole thing where you hold a control around me and then I have the controller and

Rob:

The controller there it's not the most romantic of games, but I'll try anything once No. Class. I'm going the the shapeshifter

Davey:

You're going Druid? I've gone out on going elemental dread necromancer.

Chris P:

I did play the Necromancer and I thought it was alright. I didn't think it was amazing. I thought the wizard was really wizard fun. Yeah. A lot of fun so it'd be a toss up between wizard and Bard for me.

Davey:

Yeah, but Bard I love the fact that you get loads of different weapons and yeah, like weapons. Like you couldn't do it in the beta but you can allocate weapons to whatever skill you use later on as well.

Chris P:

That's quite cool.

Tambo:

And that's why I was last time, hunter. Rogue? yeah Rogue.

Davey:

Nice. If anyone's playing Diablo 4 let us know

Rob:

Enjoy your gaming time.

Davey:

Yeah, that's coming up, Chris?

Chris P:

Well. So just had a dreadful come out. So plug and play the next box. Just started playing that a lot. Got the new DLC for Monster Hunter. That's just come out on the Xbox some break. Some break is so good in playing that. Board game wise. We recently played I did end up buying Bag of Dungeon after obviously I Yeah, the chat. I get an opinion of it. I ended up buying it. And I really enjoy it. It's fine. It's just a stupid little Yeah. She said up to like half an hour to play. It's been fun. I just played with T and Clarkie we played it and it was good fun. It was so I'm gonna play a game on I really wanna get my missus to play it even though she'll hate it. Yeah, but it would just be a bit of a laugh I just I know. Yes, you will play this game.

Rob:

So for me we haven't got anything any date set. I said me and JP played Too Many Bones the other day and he said he really wants to play a campaign with Riffle so really looking forward to trying a campaign mode on that nice but as an early birthday present Kerley basically gave me his copy of HeroQuest. Very excited to get a night in or even a day in and just for nostalgia.

Davey:

We will have to be honest, we we got a little bit tipsy we played it and just so it all is rolling. Yeah, I get I get the mechanics are dated. I get the but we had good fun because it basically it promotes more chatting around the table. You're not really thinking about what you're doing too much. And it's is more of like a beer and pretzels game, isn't it?

Rob:

Which is perfect for me. Yeah. So very much looking forward to setting up a a request. Gaming sesh it's my birthday at the end of the month. So hopefully Yeah, more Ashes reborn content.

Davey:

Cool. Which we never play.

Chris P:

We never get the invitation.

Rob:

I've been very busy this month. So um, no, I will sort out a night where we can play.

Davey:

You've been like Tombo's day you've been setting up candles and just playing by yourself.

Tambo:

And I've loved it

Chris P:

On the chat the other day when you were just building the box for what was it?

Tambo:

Caverna

Chris P:

Playing games and then you were just on the chat 'oh I'm not playing anything, I'm just building boxes. For me, yeah.

Tambo:

The gaming group is like, Yeah, I'll just listen to you boys play games. And I'll just build a box. Game within a game. Yeah. Well, come on out. We got a look forward to Vanguard on Sunday? Yes, yes.

Rob:

I really wanna play this game

Chris P:

Is that ISS Vanguard.

Rob:

Yeah, it's basically Mass Effect. Yes, I'm kinda hoping you guys are gonna get done with it soon. Because JP said he's gonna. So the sooner you hurry up an finish it, the sooner I

Tambo:

I think well, yeah. I think we're nearly three can play quarters nearly. Yeah. This campaign. Yeah. It's really good. It's good fun. Yeah. Apart from that, I

Davey:

I feel like we've kind of hit the pinnacle of it, though. That one mission, which we'll talk about spoilers. Yeah. But there is one mission that's just absolutely nuts

Tambo:

that much we talked about.

Davey:

We're not gonna talk about it any more than I mean, that's one of those things where a lot of pilots but I mean, maybe it's spoilers. I don't know. I don't think it is the mission that

Tambo:

I chose a way that they wouldn't disagreed with, because that was the deciding vote on it. But there'll be we can say that I

Davey:

Don't spoil anything. Don't say who you are. It was a big decision to make and Tambo's went down the dark side. Nice.

Tambo:

Yeah, yeah, that's on Sunday and then we've got other games coming up really look forward to like so the expo is my first experience and look for that. You're gonna love it. Yeah, you're gonna love it. It's gonna be good fun.

Davey:

Because your first Expo as well Yeah. Yeah, that's good. So we move on exciting times ahead, summers packed with games, games and more games. So with that our final turn is wrapping up. As usual.
