THOUGHT

The intelligence of humankind continues to struggle to understand, qualify, quantify, and define itself and all aspects of existence. The invention of the calendar exemplifies humanity’s effort to define seasonal changes, track the Earth's rotation, and measure the length of days and nights as dictated by the sun and the moon.
The creation of calendars was to provide consistency and uniformity in interpreting years, days, and months. However, this invention, like most human creations, has been subject to change based on attempts to align numerical data with desired outcomes dictated by political, religious, or historical events and attitudes of the time.
This is best illustrated by the changes to the names of the months in the Gregorian calendar. In the Roman calendar, which initially had only 10 months, the names of the months aligned with the Latin numbers: Septem (seven), Octo (eight), Novem (nine), and Decem (ten).
The creation of the Julian calendar in 46 BCE, based on the solar year of 365 days, forced the numerical structure of the months to change from 10 to 12 months. This addition included January and February, while keeping the traditional names from the Roman calendar. In 1582, an eleven-minute recalibration resulted in the addition of the leap year system, creating a calendar where the names of the months no longer matched their numerical order. As a result, tradition and familiarity, rather than consistency or practicality, dictated the names of the months in the calendar we use today.
Human nature seems to make room for such inconsistencies, but God does not change! God is as consistent as the natural cycles of day and night. Regardless of the names of the months, the number of days in a year, or adjustments made to meet human consistency, humanity would cease to exist if the sun failed to shine or if the moon shifted out of place. The mystery and wonder of God's creation is something humans cannot manipulate, recreate, or control. In their efforts to control and define themselves and their environment, humanity does not possess the intelligence to control all that is.
October is the tenth month of the year. Ten, in biblical numerology, is considered a number of completeness and thanksgiving. This makes October a spiritually potent month, as humans in the Northern Hemisphere prepares for its spiritual traditions, holidays, and festivals that celebrate the cyclical rhythms of the world.
This year, as we celebrate, let us take the time to acknowledge the divine order of God. Look up, reach out, and make a concerted effort to cherish and honor the blessings of the cycle of life. Meditate on the goodness of God, who created time and the seasons to benefit humanity. Understand that what God created is meant to be appreciated, cherished, and enjoyed, rather than merely categorized and calculated.
GOD BLESS YOU!!
