Jun 01, 2022 Season 1 Episode 12

Today's episode is a solocast inspired by a recent incident in my life that when I took a step back had relevance far beyond the event itself. It's a reminder that many of the challenges we face are universal regardless of the circumstance. One of my new tween softball players unexpectedly broke her leg while sliding at practice and it brought up so many feelings and concerns and provided a perfect place to explore how to overcome adversity, rise above disappointment and find resiliency in the face of sadness. I found that my role as her coach was to dig deep and help her identify where she could find success in this scenario and to help her let go of what she thought it would look like in order to welcome in something bigger. Easier said than done. But we see that instead of failure being debilitating, it can be exhilarating through the right vantage point. And as we've come accustomed to these days, we know that when the shit hits the fan, the nuggets start dropping. Here's a handful of #lillovebombs:
1. When that inner critic starts to rise up, ask yourself: Is this true? Do I know for certain that this is the truth?
2. Try this mantra: Dear Universe, I am open to seeing this differently... don't be surprised when the weight of the situation immediately lifts.
3. Freedom is something you take. Intentional action leads to your own freedom.
4. No one is coming to save you but you have the power to save yourself.
5. Give yourself permission to define your own metrics of success.
6. Everything you want is there for the taking. Step through courage and it's yours.
7. Let go of the attachment to how it should look and instead align yourself with how it feels. You will find success.
8. The way to rise above disappointment is to allow yourself the freedom to see a situation with fresh eyes. Allow success to look different than you anticipated.
9. We have the power to change any situation, to find the good in anything. There is a gift in everything that happens... the question is will you open yourself enough to see it?
10. Once you commit to sliding, don't try to stop mid slide and make the choice to slide early or you will get jammed up and injured. Translation: decide and go for it and do it now, don't wait until you think it's a better time.
