Revelation 12:1-6 is the text for this sermon entitled, "The Woman, The Dragon, and the Child."

This section of book of Revelation shows us that the church and God’s people will be victorious over Satan, the dragon.
 We read about that three characters who appear in this part of the vision: the woman, the child, and the dragon. First, the woman:
* The woman is clothed with the sun, which symbolizes a heavenly nature (cf. 1:16; 10:1)
* The phrase “under her feet” signifies dominion and authority over creation. (cf. Ps. 8:6; Mal. 4:3).
* Cannot be literal Mary!
* The woman may represent the entire Davidic line & prophetic fulfillment of Christ coming into the world.
Second, the Child:
* The language in verse 5 echoes the messianic promise in Isaiah 7:14 that a virgin would bear a son named Immanuel.
* The male child is Jesus.
Third, the Dragon:
* “Dragon” (δράκων, drakon; note we get our English word “draconian” from this.
* The same word in the Septuagint (Greek Old Testament) is used for serpent in Ex. 7:9; leviathan in Job 41:1; dragon in Jer. 51:34.
* In Rev. 2, the names Satan,  Devil, Serpent, and Dragon are used interchangeably, with the goal of personifying the persecuting powers hostile to the church and Christians.
