00:00:28

Let's start talking... interpreting.

[ROCK INTRO MUSIC ENDS]

00:00:34

And now the quote of the day by Hong Kong-American martial artist and actor Bruce Lee.

00:00:44

“Mistakes are always forgivable if one has the courage to admit them.”

00:00:51

Today's episode is quite short because I made a mistake. I have a small clip to entice you to listen to the full episode when it comes out in about a month.

00:01:04

The upcoming episode is all about interpreter pay. Yes, that delicate topic, that wonderful topic that we all like to skirt around, and agree on, and disagree on, but never really get to the meat of the matter. So, I will fix my mistake and bring you this episode after the next interview starting next week. Thank you for understanding and let's listen in on what you can expect.

00:01:35

Let's get started.

[SHORT TRANSITION MUSIC]

00:01:41

And those interpreters who are not used to such a high standard rate, while they may want that high standard rate, many times feel that they shouldn't ask for that much because, well, they come from a different country where the rates are normally lower. And if they ask for more…

00:02:01

It means they don't get the job and therefore the clients suffer. And so now they have to advocate for a higher one because all the other interpreters from the other countries are saying we have to have this rate and now you have this discussion…

00:02:16

Which is so complicated that it begs for something else. We should have a standard that meets education levels, skill levels, experience levels. But how do we do that from country to country without causing some of this angst some of this nervousness, anxiety, frustration?

00:02:40

It's something we need to talk about that I don't think we've talked about enough and it doesn't need to be led by any one country.

[SHORT TRANSITION MUSIC]
