Inspiring Young Leaders: A Conversation with Pooja Singh, PharmD
We are undergoing the largest demographic shift in the workforce that the world has ever experienced. ~10,000 Baby Boomers are retiring every day, and Millennials now make up over 50% of the US workforce and will reach 75% of the global workforce by 2025. Approximately 35% of all leadership positions are held by Millennials or between 5.2M-11.2M leaders. Many of these leaders take on these roles with only 3-5 years of experience. It's no wonder that a majority of these new leaders report that they don’t feel ready and have not received the proper training to take on their current role.
Many studies, and my own personal experience as a leadership coach, indicate that the next generations are reluctant to take on leadership roles for a variety of reasons (e.g. belief in peer-to-peer collaboration to achieve goals, the organization’s mission and purpose, and a desire to maintain work-life balance.
With so many challenges facing the world today, it is crucial that we find a way to encourage and inspire the next generation to take on leadership roles and we provide the support and training necessary for them to feel capable and enthusiastic about being a leader.
My guest today is Dr. Pooja Singh, an amazing young leader. Pooja is a recent Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) graduate from the University of Southern California. Inspired by her father's career as a pharmacist, Pooja decided at a young age to pursue a career in pharmacy. She is driven by a growing passion for the field and a dedication to giving back to the profession.
During her academic tenure, Pooja distinguished herself as a leader, consistently demonstrating a commitment to service and professional development. Pooja is passionate about all-things pharmacy, leadership, and service. Pooja hopes to utilize her various leadership experiences to continue to mentor student pharmacists, encourage them to get involved and serve our profession, and become their best personal and professional selves.
