The Bear (roars back!)

Zach and Daniel Season 2 Episode 10

Hello!

We delve deep into "The Bear" season 2 on this episode.  We discuss all things "The Bear," from the various plotlines to the characters, to the everything.

All this was done over a nice bottle of "Superbloom" from Las Jaras Wines.  This bottle was a treat, from the gradient of color to the various notes this wine hit.  The wine  was co-fermented with red and white grapes from Rhône varieties from a single vineyard.  Its described as a "California Table Wine," but don't let the name deceive you.  This was a fun bottle with a mosaic of flavors.

00:00:05 Speaker 2

You reviewing season 2 of FX's acclaimed series The Bear? What's up? What do you?

00:00:13 Speaker 2

Think thoughts.

00:00:14 Speaker 1

I loved it.

00:00:14 Speaker 1

I couldn't get enough.

00:00:15 Speaker 1

Yeah, I want to.

00:00:16 Speaker 1

More charming.

00:00:18 Speaker 1

More of everybody give you more, Richie.

00:00:20 Speaker 1

More Luca.

00:00:21

Let her rip, yeah.

00:00:22 Speaker 1

Literally every second.

00:00:23 Speaker 2

Let her rip. Yeah, yeah.

00:00:26 Speaker 1

Oh yeah.

00:00:27 Speaker 1

I was very excited for it.

00:00:28 Speaker 1

Highly anticipated return.

00:00:30 Speaker 1

Yeah, I.

00:00:32 Speaker 1

The only thing I.

00:00:33 Speaker 1

Didn't like, and it wasn't about.

00:00:34 Speaker 1

The show it was the way it.

00:00:35 Speaker 1

Was released. Ohh I know.

00:00:37 Speaker 1

There's been a lot of media about this.

00:00:39 Speaker 2

Yes, it should have.

00:00:39 Speaker 1

That is.

00:00:39 Speaker 1

Been weekly, or at least maybe.

00:00:43 Speaker 1

Two a week or something.

00:00:44 Speaker 1

Yeah, but dropping 10 at once, where each episode you can like, watch and, you know, break down for hours if not days.

00:00:52 Speaker 1

It was not a good move, but so then I had to.

00:00:55 Speaker 1

We had to self censor and we only watched a few.

00:00:57 Speaker 1

At a time.

00:00:57 Speaker 2

Yeah, that's that's the way to do it. self-control.

00:01:00 Speaker 2

Don't be a glutton.

00:01:02 Speaker 1

None of these days.

00:01:03 Speaker 1

Before we start.

00:01:03 Speaker 1

Yeah, what are we wetting our whistles with?

00:01:08 Speaker 2

Podcast is lubricated by Lazarus Super Bloom, which is a Co ferment with 200 different grapes.

00:01:17 Speaker 2

So many so many varietals.

00:01:19 Speaker 1

All the good nuns, right, Carignan and Marignan and.

00:01:24 Speaker 2

We're going to spend the time to read all this is going to take.

00:01:27 Speaker 1

Old uh.

00:01:28 Speaker 2

Going to take half the podcast here.

00:01:31 Speaker 1

All the time really hit out of the park with this one.

00:01:33 Speaker 2

And that that guy that no one else remembers who's his partner.

00:01:38 Speaker 1

Andre or.

00:01:40 Speaker 3

The giant.

00:01:42 Speaker 1

Yeah, obviously.

00:01:44 Speaker 2

We have. Oh my God, 21% move Vedre 19% Marsan 15% Rustan 14% karyon 11% Viognier 10% Grenache noir, 7% Grenache Blanc.

00:01:57 Speaker 2

3% peak pool blank.

00:02:00 Speaker 1

That's a.

00:02:00 Speaker 2

Lot grown over in.

00:02:03 Speaker 1

Love range?

00:02:05 Speaker 2

Yeah, near the southern end of Yosemite, the Northern California, it's a carbonic coal ferment wine that they made in several tanks, each treated differently.

00:02:09 Speaker 1

All right.

00:02:15 Speaker 2

By we, I mean less Harris not.

00:02:17 Speaker 3

Not us, you and me personally.

00:02:21 Speaker 2

And we fermented the juice from each lot separately in stainless steel.

00:02:25 Speaker 2

Combined lots once they were dry, primarily primary and malolactic fermentation were native.

00:02:32 Speaker 2

There have been no additions to this one, so zero in.

00:02:34 Speaker 1

Oh right, 00, Agent 0.

00:02:38 Speaker 2

They put that on the.

00:02:39 Speaker 1

The bottle?

00:02:40 Speaker 1

Ohh, OK, there's a cool color.

00:02:41 Speaker 4

What is this?

00:02:43 Speaker 1

It's like multi it's like gradient like right?

00:02:45 Speaker 2

Yeah, I mean the the little kind of.

00:02:47 Speaker 1

The label.

00:02:51 Speaker 2

It's it's interesting because it has the the bubbliness.

00:03:01 Speaker 1

The carbon, carbon machination, carbonic.

00:03:05 Speaker 2

And sweet juiciness, yeah.

00:03:11 Speaker 2

But it's softened, I guess maybe the acidity is softened by the malolactic.

00:03:17 Speaker 2

It's not sharp.

00:03:18 Speaker 2

It's not like a sharp juice.

00:03:18 Speaker 1

No, at the end.

00:03:21 Speaker 1

The very last note I get though is a little Tang.

00:03:23 Speaker 2

Little better, OK.

00:03:27 Speaker 2

Very like I think all Lazarus wines.

00:03:29 Speaker 2

That I've had.

00:03:31 Speaker 2

Super drinkable. Oh yeah. Light.

00:03:33 Speaker 2

Glue glue for sure.

00:03:35 Speaker 1

Yeah, they're like the.

00:03:38 Speaker 1

It's like you enjoy just watching it, but if you like also break it down as multi flavors and layers to it.

00:03:39 Speaker 2

Good, good.

00:03:43 Speaker 1

Yeah, this is some good.

00:03:45 Speaker 1

Stuff it.

00:03:45 Speaker 1

Is good on you behind.

00:03:48 Speaker 2

Perfect for warm summer night.

00:03:51 Speaker 2

Summer day.

00:03:52 Speaker 1

And you're watching the bear.

00:03:55 Speaker 1

Well, they won't drink on.

00:03:56 Speaker 1

The beer I always wondered.

00:03:58 Speaker 1

There also will.

00:03:59 Speaker 2

Well, he's in recovery, so he's trying to avoid.

00:03:59 Speaker 1

Be hardened chefs.

00:04:04 Speaker 1

I thought he was in recovery.

00:04:05 Speaker 1

More for.

00:04:07 Speaker 1

I thought he was in recovery as like the ellinon.

00:04:10 Speaker 1

Right the the.

00:04:11 Speaker 1

Friends and family of the person who was addicted and was he addicted for or was he in for his own reasons?

00:04:17 Speaker 2

Well, he he's in the party at season or episode five.

00:04:21 Speaker 2

I think he's taking a soda or something.

00:04:23 Speaker 2

Doesn't, right?

00:04:24 Speaker 2

Ever drink?

00:04:25 Speaker 2

And I think in season one he was having those weird dreams.

00:04:30 Speaker 1

Ohh yeah.

00:04:30 Speaker 2

After drinking like you come home and.

00:04:33 Speaker 1

Have this weird dream, something alert pounding malort in the Wormwood.

00:04:39 Speaker 2

Seeing the the Chicago fairy dance about.

00:04:45 Speaker 2

Yeah, I loved Season 2 was looking forward to it.

00:04:48 Speaker 2

It delivered every episode was amazing.

00:04:53 Speaker 2

Picked up right where season one.

00:04:56 Speaker 2

Left off and it.

00:05:00 Speaker 2

Broadened the scope a little bit on on several of the characters and where I think season one was.

00:05:06 Speaker 2

Heavily focused on and in the restaurant.

00:05:09 Speaker 2

And you occasionally got to see the home lives of some of the other characters.

00:05:12 Speaker 2

This time there were whole episodes dedicated.

00:05:15 Speaker 2

Essentially to 1 character in the character and you got to see them.

00:05:16 Speaker 1

Yeah, the side.

00:05:17 Speaker 4

Yeah, mine is just.

00:05:19 Speaker 2

People who are secondary character supporting characters are now.

00:05:23 Speaker 2

Getting full full episodes.

00:05:26 Speaker 2

And so season one, we left off with them closing down the.

00:05:31 Speaker 1

Beef, right.

00:05:32 Speaker 1

Putting up the sign coming, coming the bear.

00:05:35 Speaker 1

The bear finding the money and the tomato sauce, yeah.

00:05:35 Speaker 1

Spoiler alert, sure.

00:05:43 Speaker 2

There's money in.

00:05:43 Speaker 2

The tomato sauce.

00:05:45 Speaker 2

The banana stands and tomato sauce is always.

00:05:48 Speaker 1

OK.

00:05:49 Speaker 2

So says arrested.

00:05:52 Speaker 2

I know you don't.

00:05:53 Speaker 2

You don't care for that brand of comedy.

00:05:56 Speaker 1

I don't I like that brand, I think.

00:05:59 Speaker 1

They're an off brand.

00:06:02 Speaker 1

They're the the House brand.

00:06:06 Speaker 2

The the the table wine.

00:06:06 Speaker 1

They the Walmart, there's a good value.

00:06:10 Speaker 1

Chef select exactly.

00:06:11 Speaker 2

Smart and final.

00:06:13 Speaker 2

So season one opens with them.

00:06:18 Speaker 1

Open with the like a hospital.

00:06:20 Speaker 2

The very first shot.

00:06:22 Speaker 2

It's pretty surprising.

00:06:23 Speaker 2

Don't know where it's going to start.

00:06:24 Speaker 2

And it's Marcus at home.

00:06:27 Speaker 2

I think she's in hospital.

00:06:29 Speaker 2

I don't necessarily Hospice.

00:06:30

But some kind of.

00:06:30 Speaker 1

Home. Home care? Yeah.

00:06:32 Speaker 2

And I think it's at his or her.

00:06:35 Speaker 1

Yeah, it's a little unclear at.

00:06:36 Speaker 2

First it looks.

00:06:38 Speaker 1

Like they had the machines.

00:06:39 Speaker 1

But it looked like the the background, yeah.

00:06:40 Speaker 2

The furniture and.

00:06:43 Speaker 2

Which was an interesting place to start and it held on that for a.

00:06:47 Speaker 2

Bit and then.

00:06:49 Speaker 2

He goes to work, I think, and then.

00:06:50 Speaker 1

We get well.

00:06:52 Speaker 1

I think from there we get all the aerial shots of Chicago and all those cool shots of the the skyscrapers, and he zooms in on Carmi as he's walking.

00:06:54 Speaker 2

Right, right, right. Yeah.

00:06:57 Speaker 4

Right.

00:07:02 Speaker 1

To the beef, or was it formerly the beef?

00:07:06 Speaker 2

And they start the.

00:07:08 Speaker 2

The renovation.

00:07:08 Speaker 1

Yeah, they started talking about.

00:07:11 Speaker 1

Well, yeah, everything that works, that doesn't work.

00:07:13 Speaker 1

The money.

00:07:13 Speaker 1

They need that they don't have.

00:07:17 Speaker 1

From the beginning, I in the first season too and and continued in this one.

00:07:21 Speaker 1

Sometimes I feel like the filming, especially of those like exterior like city shots and like the Zoom Inns of the characters walking, particularly army.

00:07:28 Speaker 1

Remind me a lot of like.

00:07:31 Speaker 1

Well, I guess technically would it be like 70s or early 80s shows like in the way they're shot with the they zoom into the character from the side as they're walking, and I assume they're shooting on film because that's a bit of a.

00:07:38 Speaker 2

Kind of.

00:07:44 Speaker 1

Grainy look right.

00:07:45 Speaker 1

I'm not a person.

00:07:46 Speaker 2

I would think it's digital.

00:07:49 Speaker 2

I think succession, I know for sure succession filmed on film, people like that is nuts.

00:07:55 Speaker 2

TV shows do not.

00:07:55

Right.

00:07:57 Speaker 1

Do film film this film.

00:07:58 Speaker 2

Does you're right anymore.

00:08:01 Speaker 2

And because they're so.

00:08:03 Speaker 2

Quick like they.

00:08:04 Speaker 2

They shot it.

00:08:05 Speaker 2

Very quickly and no, I would think that they would be on digital.

00:08:08

OK.

00:08:08 Speaker 2

They might have made added something.

00:08:09 Speaker 1

That's what single been kind.

00:08:10 Speaker 2

To give it a.

00:08:11 Speaker 2

Of green vibe or like Seventies 80s.

00:08:14 Speaker 1

Because that's like the the yeah.

00:08:14 Speaker 2

There there's a.

00:08:15 Speaker 1

The vibe.

00:08:16 Speaker 1

Yeah, when they.

00:08:16 Speaker 1

Do those shots.

00:08:17 Speaker 2

Right.

00:08:18 Speaker 1

Those exterior outside and walking shots.

00:08:20 Speaker 2

A little little gritty little grimy one.

00:08:23 Speaker 2

Like you don't have.

00:08:25 Speaker 2

Like a big crane or a drone to go from high up.

00:08:28 Speaker 2

But uh.

00:08:30 Speaker 2

And then to a crane down pushing on a character, you just have to do a big zoom from like yes, across the street.

00:08:34

Right.

00:08:39 Speaker 2

10 stories up to the sidewalk.

00:08:41 Speaker 2

Right down there and.

00:08:42 Speaker 2

It has that.

00:08:42 Speaker 1

That old school vibe.

00:08:43 Speaker 2

Yeah, yeah, I like it.

00:08:45 Speaker 1

Dig it? Yeah. And then also seemed like, UM.

00:08:49 Speaker 1

From the short notes that.

00:08:52 Speaker 2

You can.

00:08:53 Speaker 2

You're only putting down what you.

00:08:54 Speaker 1

Need that scene with Marcus and his mom kind of set up as I think one of the major themes throughout the series.

00:09:02 Speaker 1

Of like the and I think one of the characters mentioned it too, right?

00:09:07 Speaker 1

Like a sort of like a theme of hospitality, right?

00:09:09 Speaker 1

You got.

00:09:10 Speaker 1

Because you get the scene with him and his mom.

00:09:13 Speaker 1

Then you get uh.

00:09:15 Speaker 1

Claire, who worked with the doctor Uh who works in a hospital and then I think someone mentions, right, we both work in, you know, the word hospitality.

00:09:23 Speaker 1

Where does the word?

00:09:24 Speaker 1

Come from where?

00:09:24 Speaker 1

Where that's in the in the show.

00:09:26 Speaker 2

Right. Yeah, yeah, yes, yes.

00:09:27 Speaker 1

Hospital, hospitality.

00:09:28 Speaker 1

Right.

00:09:29 Speaker 1

So it was interesting that juxtaposition.

00:09:33 Speaker 1

The hospital and hospitality.

00:09:37 Speaker 1

And then I think it's reinforced with the character, you know, Carmine's love interest, slash equal being a literal Dr.

00:09:46 Speaker 1

Right.

00:09:46 Speaker 1

So you have these two high stress jobs where when you consider.

00:09:54 Speaker 1

High stress.

00:09:55 Speaker 1

But when you think about like the the stakes, right, the stakes of a chef are not the stakes of a doctor.

00:10:00 Speaker 1

But so the chef sometimes will act.

00:10:04 Speaker 1

As if the stakes are like so high, but really.

00:10:08 Speaker 1

They're just making food at the end of the day, right?

00:10:10 Speaker 1

And not even for like, starving people, but for like, high well heeled folk.

00:10:14 Speaker 1

So I just had that whole that that through line of the season was interesting.

00:10:20 Speaker 1

Yeah, especially with when you consider the end.

00:10:22 Speaker 1

Yes, where he kind of just.

00:10:24 Speaker 1

Well, just to mention real.

00:10:25 Speaker 1

Yeah, he loses it.

00:10:26 Speaker 1

Uh, but for what?

00:10:27 Speaker 1

Yeah, when you literally have, you know, your girlfriend or whatever, who is a literal Dr.

00:10:31 Speaker 1

saving life.

00:10:33 Speaker 2

Yeah, we can.

00:10:34 Speaker 2

We can dive into Karma psyche as we got.

00:10:37 Speaker 2

Farther along, but I like you're bringing up of that, that first shot as being.

00:10:46 Speaker 2

Kind of foundational for the themes of the entire season, service and a lot of characters are trying to find purpose.

00:10:51 Speaker 1

Right.

00:10:55 Speaker 2

Why am I doing this?

00:10:56 Speaker 2

Who am I?

00:10:58 Speaker 2

Serving is uh.

00:11:02 Speaker 2

What Ritchie found is a way to have purpose.

00:11:05 Speaker 2

He was lost through a lot of the season and then he found like, oh, doing things for people is a way to create purpose for myself and also the idea of.

00:11:16 Speaker 2

Family life, our personal life and professional life.

00:11:20 Speaker 2

What happens when those two worlds collide when they don't necessarily agree with each other?

00:11:26 Speaker 2

When the people in your personal life do not support your?

00:11:32 Speaker 2

Professional career.

00:11:33 Speaker 2

What happens when you are trying to trust an unstable person in a professional capacity?

00:11:41 Speaker 2

How really do you?

00:11:43 Speaker 2

Get along with other humans.

00:11:44 Speaker 2

How do you figure out your purpose?

00:11:46 Speaker 2

How do you?

00:11:48 Speaker 2

Trust people, especially in this situation, a lot of.

00:11:54 Speaker 2

Troubled people and and work through that and.

00:11:55 Speaker 3

Right, yeah.

00:11:58 Speaker 2

Try to be be whole.

00:12:00 Speaker 1

Yeah, I think what I really liked about that first episode, which is I think they've done.

00:12:05 Speaker 1

They did like all like a masterful job and setting up all like the the themes and the arcs that we're about to see.

00:12:12 Speaker 1

The rest of the season.

00:12:14 Speaker 1

But everything is in that first episode.

00:12:16 Speaker 1

Like literally everything.

00:12:17 Speaker 3

Thank you.

00:12:17 Speaker 1

Where you like.

00:12:18 Speaker 1

You were talking about the purpose.

00:12:19 Speaker 1

We have Richie having that like talk with Carmi in the in the basement, right?

00:12:24 Speaker 1

We talk about purpose and he brings up the Murakami book.

00:12:29 Speaker 1

But and then, when he asked Karmi like, what the **** is?

00:12:33 Speaker 1

Fun for you, right?

00:12:34 Speaker 1

Right.

00:12:34 Speaker 1

Like this is you love this, but.

00:12:36 Speaker 1

He said it's not fun for him.

00:12:37 Speaker 2

Right.

00:12:37 Speaker 1

So again right a part and part and parcel to what is.

00:12:40 Speaker 1

The purpose?

00:12:42 Speaker 1

And on the on the side note to that scene, that scene was so cool.

00:12:46 Speaker 1

Like the way it was shot, the lighting?

00:12:48 Speaker 1

And you have like Richie in the foreground.

00:12:50 Speaker 1

But car me like in the back and the the the focus and the light.

00:12:53 Speaker 1

And the angle, right? Yeah.

00:12:55

It was like what?

00:12:56 Speaker 1

The hell is happening here?

00:12:57 Speaker 1

This meson sand is amazing.

00:13:00 Speaker 2

I mean, that's.

00:13:02 Speaker 2

And it speaks to the writing.

00:13:03 Speaker 2

It's also the the camera work hero Mirai as a as a producer.

00:13:08 Speaker 2

And he did a lot of.

00:13:09 Speaker 2

Creative work on.

00:13:10 Speaker 2

Atlanta and I think that would.

00:13:11 Speaker 1

OK.

00:13:12 Speaker 2

Lend a lot to.

00:13:15 Speaker 2

The way it's filmed, Chris store and his wife Courtney.

00:13:20 Speaker 2

I think also would have a lot to do with that as well.

00:13:23 Speaker 2

And then.

00:13:25 Speaker 2

With was it 10 episodes 1010 episodes?

00:13:27 Speaker 1

And yeah.

00:13:30 Speaker 2

Most falling within the average 30-40 minute range, yeah.

00:13:34 Speaker 1

Except for that one, that thing was.

00:13:36 Speaker 1

An hour and.

00:13:36 Speaker 2

1/2 fishes. Yeah, I think that was the longest one and maybe an hour. Hour 20 something.

00:13:41 Speaker 1

Like that, yeah.

00:13:43 Speaker 2

Just the the efficiency and trusting the writing, trusting the audience and the characters, and being able to set up.

00:13:50 Speaker 2

So many of the themes so early without it feeling like exposition.

00:13:54 Speaker 1

Exactly right.

00:13:55 Speaker 1

It was like expertly placed.

00:13:56 Speaker 2

Yeah, they are able to tweet.

00:13:59 Speaker 1

Like with tweezers, right micro plants on those.

00:14:03 Speaker 2

They're showing everything.

00:14:04 Speaker 2

They're not telling us.

00:14:04 Speaker 2

They're not having conversations that so explicitly.

00:14:05

Right.

00:14:09 Speaker 2

Explain the theme of of what's going on and you don't realize.

00:14:09 Speaker 1

Right.

00:14:13 Speaker 2

That they're setting up anything.

00:14:15 Speaker 2

Like these things are happening.

00:14:16 Speaker 2

They're like, OK, that's happening.

00:14:17 Speaker 2

And then it's only when you finish.

00:14:20 Speaker 2

Does everything come together and you can you can feel, but you don't.

00:14:21 Speaker 1

You can see it, yeah.

00:14:23 Speaker 2

Feel it in the moment, right?

00:14:26 Speaker 1

When you're watching, just like this is interesting.

00:14:27 Speaker 1

OK.

00:14:28 Speaker 1

Yeah, maybe this is.

00:14:29 Speaker 1

A plot point.

00:14:30 Speaker 1

So set out from the first episode two was like the growing relationship between.

00:14:34 Speaker 1

Tina and Sydney.

00:14:35 Speaker 1

Yeah, we have what, one of the criticisms that I remember hearing about season one was although that there were female characters.

00:14:45 Speaker 1

To some degree, they act agency, at least in relation to like Carmi or like the male characters.

00:14:50 Speaker 1

And I think if that was a criticism or not or whatever, or if it was true or not, which I don't know, is maybe half true or kind of I see it, but not wholly given.

00:15:00 Speaker 1

What the characters were doing and what was happening in the story, but I think if anything that's rectified completely.

00:15:01 Speaker 3

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

00:15:07 Speaker 1

With now the rise of Tina.

00:15:09 Speaker 1

You know, finding her purpose.

00:15:11 Speaker 1

And Sydney, seeing her wanting to and taking her under her wing and seeing them sort of having their own relationship completely separate from, like, Karma and the male characters.

00:15:22 Speaker 2

Yes, yeah, definitely.

00:15:25 Speaker 2

Tina has a lot of growth.

00:15:26 Speaker 2

I think Sydney has a lot of growth.

00:15:28 Speaker 2

She's still.

00:15:30 Speaker 4

Green. Yeah, right.

00:15:31 Speaker 2

Well and and just tied to Carmi, because her future really depends on him.

00:15:35 Speaker 2

So like situationally while she grew as a a character within the narrative.

00:15:43 Speaker 2

Still very dependent on on Carmi, and I think it's trying to.

00:15:49 Speaker 2

Figure out a path for herself working with him.

00:15:52 Speaker 2

But still just doing her own **** because he's gone.

00:15:56 Speaker 2

So she's gonna do what she needs to do to.

00:16:00 Speaker 2

Follow her voice and.

00:16:01 Speaker 1

And we just highlighted in that other episode where she goes around to the restaurants and she every keeps on saying you gotta have a good partner, have a good partner.

00:16:08 Speaker 2

Right, right. Yeah.

00:16:11 Speaker 1

I think they kind of stood out from the first one was I think like we were saying that stuff is shown.

00:16:15 Speaker 1

But not explicitly stated.

00:16:17 Speaker 1

Yeah, the the rise of Richie two, right?

00:16:19 Speaker 1

There's that part where he's like he counts, you know, he's like, this is part of my personal growth plan or whatever instead of like straight.

00:16:25 Speaker 1

To yelling and you see him too, trying to try.

00:16:25 Speaker 2

Right, right. Yeah, yeah.

00:16:30 Speaker 1

That is still in his way, sure, and until later on, right?

00:16:33 Speaker 1

Right. More to.

00:16:33 Speaker 1

It, But yeah, you start seeing the the little the sprinkles.

00:16:36 Speaker 1

Right.

00:16:38 Speaker 1

Great soundtrack throughout the whole thing.

00:16:40 Speaker 2

Needle drops.

00:16:41 Speaker 2

I mean, there's so many articles about the needle drops, yeah.

00:16:42 Speaker 1

Left and right.

00:16:43 Speaker 1

Just the music.

00:16:46 Speaker 1

We get a get to hang out with the unk.

00:16:52 Speaker 1

Yeah, man of many names.

00:16:52 Speaker 2

Jimmy uncle Jimmy.

00:16:55 Speaker 2

He's the man with the money they discover and trying to.

00:17:00 Speaker 2

Create a a timeline for restaurant opening and how the funds that they have that they cannot do it without help from Uncle Jimmy, so they they.

00:17:11 Speaker 1

Namani Mullah.

00:17:12 Speaker 2

Yeah, they.

00:17:12 Speaker 2

It's like a Faustian bargain with the devil there.

00:17:14 Speaker 1

Right.

00:17:16 Speaker 2

He will give them money, but karmy sets up the deadline.

00:17:19 Speaker 1

Yes, that's what they say the Faustian, but he's.

00:17:21 Speaker 1

Like here have my what do you give?

00:17:24 Speaker 2

Me for it.

00:17:24 Speaker 2

And he's like, OK, I'll deliver this in 18 months.

00:17:26 Speaker 1

18 months. Something crazy for almost $1,000,000 five.

00:17:28 Speaker 2

And then like?

00:17:31 Speaker 1

It four right 900,000.

00:17:32 Speaker 2

And ohh nine yeah, it's crazy and.

00:17:34 Speaker 2

I think 8 or.

00:17:39 Speaker 2

He says he gives them the money and then I think Karma is like, man, that's ****** **, man.

00:17:45 Speaker 2

18 months.

00:17:46 Speaker 2

Like what?

00:17:47 Speaker 1

Yeah, it was you.

00:17:48 Speaker 2

Yeah, seems like you or maybe sugar.

00:17:51 Speaker 2

He said, well, you said 18 you we you could have picked your terms and you gave him 18.

00:17:54 Speaker 1

That's the CP.

00:17:58 Speaker 2

Yeah, but that's how how the season starts.

00:18:01 Speaker 2

Often how they get started on the renovation.

00:18:04 Speaker 1

Right.

00:18:05 Speaker 1

The beginnings of the bear, yeah.

00:18:08 Speaker 2

And I was just gonna introduce some other characters that are the returning Matty Matheson comes back as.

00:18:13 Speaker 1

Uh, new Jeff Richard Lawrence.

00:18:19 Speaker 2

As a handyman.

00:18:21 Speaker 2

And he as another character that I think in the first season was.

00:18:25 Speaker 2

There, mostly for Comic Relief, and his character grows.

00:18:31 Speaker 2

I think Matty Matheson as an actor, not that he was bad in the first season, but he gets.

00:18:36 Speaker 2

To more act.

00:18:37 Speaker 2

Yeah, act more and have, like, strong emotional moments.

00:18:41 Speaker 2

And felt like.

00:18:45 Speaker 2

A character that is in a Matty Matheson vein but is.

00:18:51 Speaker 2

Different it's it's his own creation.

00:18:53 Speaker 2

It's his own.

00:18:56 Speaker 2

Things separate from.

00:18:58 Speaker 2

Manny Matheson as his public persona.

00:18:59 Speaker 1

Right.

00:19:01 Speaker 2

I felt like he was, yeah.

00:19:01 Speaker 1

There's a loud funny.

00:19:03 Speaker 2

He was doing his own.

00:19:05 Speaker 1

Thing, yeah, definitely was great.

00:19:05 Speaker 2

So I.

00:19:07 Speaker 2

I appreciate it.

00:19:07 Speaker 2

And there I think because he.

00:19:09 Speaker 2

Was of a A1 note character before and it was very surprising and like you could have left him.

00:19:17 Speaker 2

As an occasional presence when something was going wrong in the renovation and then like, OK yeah, that's fine.

00:19:24 Speaker 2

I had no idea that.

00:19:28 Speaker 2

There's going to be an evolution to the character and it was just a surprising audition and it just rounded everything out again.

00:19:31 Speaker 1

That was a very good price, yeah.

00:19:34 Speaker 2

You know, it's like.

00:19:34 Speaker 2

When you're when you're tasting something, all of a sudden it has a depth of flavor that you weren't expecting.

00:19:38 Speaker 2

Oh, there's really something.

00:19:40 Speaker 2

There's there's a bottom to this.

00:19:42 Speaker 2

Rounds it out, so I appreciated that we have.

00:19:47 Speaker 2

Ebra and Tina are back.

00:19:50 Speaker 1

And that other guy can't remember his name, Jeff.

00:19:55 Speaker 1

There's no real there's no, there's no real guess, I guess.

00:19:57 Speaker 1

For Neil, Jeff, I guess but.

00:20:00 Speaker 2

He I don't even know what his his position is in in the.

00:20:02 Speaker 1

Ohh, there's Marcus Marcus the Baker, but the.

00:20:03 Speaker 2

Restaurant market we can name market.

00:20:07 Speaker 2

Other guy too? Actors.

00:20:11 Speaker 1

And then we see.

00:20:11 Speaker 1

It in two quick shots of.

00:20:12 Speaker 1

Like the dishwasher guys.

00:20:15 Speaker 1

They're helping a little bit in the background.

00:20:17 Speaker 2

Yeah, they weren't real big on in one.

00:20:19 Speaker 2

So we're not going to talk around 1:00.

00:20:20 Speaker 1

Right.

00:20:21 Speaker 1

They were, yeah.

00:20:22 Speaker 1

They weren't.

00:20:22 Speaker 1

There weren't too much in each of them.

00:20:26 Speaker 1

I think the funniest thing that Richie said, Kevin McAllister.

00:20:31 Speaker 2

Make that a bad home alone reference.

00:20:34 Speaker 1

Home alone though, Chicago.

00:20:38 Speaker 1

Is that where?

00:20:38 Speaker 2

They lived.

00:20:39 Speaker 2

Ohh, I think it was John Hughes film so I would assume yeah, because it gets lost in New York.

00:20:43 Speaker 1

Yeah, right. OK.

00:20:45 Speaker 2

So they're not from there.

00:20:46 Speaker 3

Right, yeah.

00:20:48 Speaker 2

So they're not, it's not.

00:20:49 Speaker 1

Set in New York.

00:20:49 Speaker 1

Well, that's the second one.

00:20:50 Speaker 1

The first one he was supposed to go to Paris.

00:20:50 Speaker 2

Harris, right, right, right.

00:20:52 Speaker 1

Yeah, he gets left behind.

00:20:53 Speaker 1

But I was.

00:20:53 Speaker 1

Trying to remember.

00:20:54 Speaker 1

That was Chicago, right?

00:20:56 Speaker 1

Or like a suburb?

00:20:57 Speaker 1

Right. OK.

00:20:58 Speaker 2

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:21:00

Right.

00:21:01 Speaker 1

That's why they were so offended.

00:21:02 Speaker 1

Why they didn't know McAllister like he's a he's one of us.

00:21:08 Speaker 2

Irish, I guess.

00:21:11 Speaker 2

Well, I.

00:21:11 Speaker 1

Guess everybody's something different, right?

00:21:12 Speaker 1

I mean, Richie, I mean, yeah.

00:21:13 Speaker 1

Richie's not.

00:21:14 Speaker 1

Even he's Polish, Polish, right?

00:21:16 Speaker 4

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:21:16 Speaker 1

And then maybe not even from Chicago.

00:21:19 Speaker 1

As we learned later on, just a quick, Fast forward when he's talking to chef Terry and they're they're talking about how they're both army kids and they moved around a lot.

00:21:21 Speaker 2

Oh, really?

00:21:22 Speaker 2

I don't know if I remember this.

00:21:28 Speaker 2

Oh, oh, right, right.

00:21:30 Speaker 1

I'm kind of curious.

00:21:32 Speaker 1

Is that Chicago just where the last place?

00:21:34 Speaker 1

They moved to.

00:21:35 Speaker 1

Oh, or was he always because, like, he of all of them, he's.

00:21:38 Speaker 1

The most like Chicago, right?

00:21:40 Speaker 1

Like almost to a character.

00:21:43 Speaker 1

So I'm curious.

00:21:43 Speaker 1

Was that part of his put on 2 blend in because he was like an outsider or whatever?

00:21:48 Speaker 1

I don't know.

00:21:48 Speaker 1

That's just me hypothesizing, right.

00:21:49

Uh-huh. Yeah.

00:21:52 Speaker 1

But yes, old Ritchie steals the show.

00:21:55 Speaker 1

With the Macallister comment.

00:21:59 Speaker 2

It's like 10 episodes of amazing acting by everyone who like McAllister.

00:22:05 Speaker 2

That's what does.

00:22:06 Speaker 2

Is just.

00:22:08 Speaker 1

Well placed like a moose, Boosh.

00:22:13 Speaker 2

And I think that's another thing that the show does really well is mix in comedy with very serious things.

00:22:21 Speaker 2

And can move between them seamlessly and justice switch moments and all of.

00:22:28 Speaker 2

A sudden, yeah, throw in the.

00:22:30 Speaker 2

And it's not like, ohh, I'm uncomfortable with this emotion.

00:22:34 Speaker 2

I have to.

00:22:35 Speaker 2

So which it always feels very organic and real to the characters that they would.

00:22:37 Speaker 1

Right, right. Yes.

00:22:40 Speaker 2

Say whatever is, it's not joke comedy.

00:22:43 Speaker 2

I think it's like human, yeah.

00:22:48 Speaker 1

The gallows humor of life, yeah.

00:22:50 Speaker 2

It's through circumstance and what the what's going on that that's funny not.

00:22:55 Speaker 4

Right.

00:22:56 Speaker 2

Like but it but.

00:22:57 Speaker 2

It but it like a sitcomy setup, punchline, setup, punchline.

00:22:59 Speaker 1

Right.

00:22:59 Speaker 1

So when someone right someone fart because someones about to cry or something, right?

00:23:06 Speaker 1

This is not a bazinga over here.

00:23:10 Speaker 2

Or a nutty.

00:23:11 Speaker 1

Or nutty professor?

00:23:12 Speaker 2

Yeah, yeah.

00:23:12 Speaker 1

But I'm glad you brought that up.

00:23:13 Speaker 1

The mixture of the, the comedy and the drama, because that definitely the first season had that.

00:23:18 Speaker 1

But this season got way darker.

00:23:22 Speaker 1

But still was able to like keep some of the lightness with those jokes and stuff.

00:23:26 Speaker 1

But I think overall this is a much darker season.

00:23:29 Speaker 1

Than the 1st.

00:23:31 Speaker 1

Yeah, like almost from.

00:23:34 Speaker 1

A little bit from the get go like you mentioned that deal they made with Cicero and stuff like that.

00:23:40 Speaker 1

And the the, the, the stress that we already see right off the bat of the opening and whether it's supposed to be a a complete remodel or a facelift, then very much becomes clear.

00:23:52 Speaker 1

What is going to have to be?

00:23:54 Speaker 1

And especially the way it ends, right?

00:23:56 Speaker 1

Everybody goes home.

00:23:57 Speaker 1

You see Carmen fidgeting like you couldn't feel like the deafening silence.

00:24:01 Speaker 1

Like you can't just stay still.

00:24:02 Speaker 2

Right, yeah.

00:24:03 Speaker 1

They he goes back to the restaurant.

00:24:05 Speaker 1

They're all there.

00:24:05 Speaker 1

Right?

00:24:06 Speaker 1

Nat, sugar.

00:24:07 Speaker 1

And Sydney.

00:24:09 Speaker 1

And then they make this grand plan to open in like record time?

00:24:12 Speaker 1

And then cut.

00:24:13 Speaker 2

And an insane timeline.

00:24:13 Speaker 1

To the.

00:24:15 Speaker 1

High pitched guitar.

00:24:16 Speaker 1

Right in the timeline and it ends with the the line that then plays throughout the show to another theme if you will maybe every second.

00:24:25 Speaker 1

Yeah, and that is epic.

00:24:29 Speaker 1

Which we're not gonna recap, but I think it's important to do episode one because like we were talking about, it's everything.

00:24:32 Speaker 2

It starts, that's.

00:24:35 Speaker 1

Like literally everything is in that episode.

00:24:38 Speaker 2

And I think with season one, a lot of it was.

00:24:43 Speaker 2

Calmly focused and him dealing with Mickey's death and the professional pressure that he was under while in New York.

00:24:51 Speaker 2

Right.

00:24:52 Speaker 2

And this widens it up to more of his family and just the general.

00:24:59 Speaker 2

Existential crisis.

00:25:00 Speaker 2

He has even outside of being a chef just like.

00:25:04 Speaker 2

Where do I find fun?

00:25:05 Speaker 2

Where to find joy?

00:25:06 Speaker 2

Happiness, right?

00:25:08 Speaker 2

He was so purpose driven to be a chef and then.

00:25:12 Speaker 1

And even then.

00:25:14 Speaker 1

It almost seemed like he did it in spite of, right, because he wanted to like one up.

00:25:19 Speaker 1

Yeah, yeah.

00:25:21 Speaker 1

So what we do see that maybe his true love his pants?

00:25:23 Speaker 2

Uh, yeah.

00:25:27 Speaker 2

His his denim collection has yet to fully be explained.

00:25:31 Speaker 1

But that was referenced to in season one right? He has to sell one of his like minor versions like right 1940.

00:25:37

Nine. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:25:39 Speaker 2

Which he.

00:25:41 Speaker 2

Never wears.

00:25:43 Speaker 2

I don't.

00:25:43 Speaker 2

I don't remember.

00:25:44 Speaker 1

I don't think I've never seen him wear jeans.

00:25:44 Speaker 2

What pants.

00:25:46 Speaker 1

Yeah, but I guess he's a collector of vintage denim.

00:25:49 Speaker 1

And then later we learned he's a a designer.

00:25:52 Speaker 1

He's a a Ralph Lauren.

00:25:54 Speaker 1

Well, remember, he.

00:25:55 Speaker 1

Would he?

00:25:56 Speaker 1

Claire was talking to him.

00:25:57 Speaker 1

She was like I sat behind you.

00:25:58 Speaker 1

You're always drawing pants.

00:25:59 Speaker 1

And he said he was really into pants.

00:26:02 Speaker 1

He wanted to design pants.

00:26:03 Speaker 2

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:26:05 Speaker 1

So maybe that's season three.

00:26:07 Speaker 1

He just gives up on the restaurant cause it was never his true passion, purpose, love.

00:26:11 Speaker 1

And he goes makes pants.

00:26:14 Speaker 2

It will.

00:26:14 Speaker 2

With Daniel Day Lewis with his cobbling business.

00:26:17 Speaker 1

Ohh yeah, I think you're gonna make.

00:26:19 Speaker 1

The defensive threat.

00:26:24 Speaker 2

What was that characters name?

00:26:25 Speaker 2

I don't remember Woodcock.

00:26:28 Speaker 1

Sounds about right.

00:26:28 Speaker 2

That's what I found.

00:26:31 Speaker 1

But yeah, purpose.

00:26:33 Speaker 1

The purpose driven episode.

00:26:36 Speaker 2

The purpose driven bear.

00:26:39 Speaker 1

And then so basically throughout.

00:26:40 Speaker 1

The rest of the season is them trying to open the restaurant, dealing with all the the turmoil of uh, yeah, doing the complete face lift.

00:26:51 Speaker 1

Of the restaurant because we they find.

00:26:52 Speaker 1

Out they have mold.

00:26:53 Speaker 1

They don't have enough amperage.

00:26:55 Speaker 1

They're not passing the gas tank.

00:26:59 Speaker 1

They're running out of money, Cicero sniffing around, being like, what's going on here?

00:27:08 Speaker 2

We can kind of go through these episode episode by episode and then if there's something big that happens in in one of these that we can, we can.

00:27:17 Speaker 2

Stop to discuss episode one was beef episode 2 pasta, which I think is.

00:27:24 Speaker 2

A lot of.

00:27:25 Speaker 2

Sydney and Carmi working out the menu.

00:27:28 Speaker 2

They're chaos menu.

00:27:29 Speaker 4

Right.

00:27:30 Speaker 2

And though?

00:27:30 Speaker 1

But but thoughtful Paul?

00:27:34 Speaker 2

And then.

00:27:36 Speaker 2

Three is Sunday.

00:27:38 Speaker 1

Ohh 2 the I think the besides the.

00:27:41 Speaker 1

Yeah, the sort of the teaming up of Sydney and Carney we meet Claire at the end.

00:27:47 Speaker 1

Oh yes, at the grocery store.

00:27:50 Speaker 2

So Carmi goes to pick up.

00:27:53 Speaker 2

Veal stock. Veal stock, yeah.

00:27:56 Speaker 2

That's right.

00:27:57 Speaker 2

And then runs into someone that he knew in high school.

00:28:01 Speaker 2

Claire, she recognizes him.

00:28:05 Speaker 1

Have a little chat.

00:28:06 Speaker 1

Yeah, very.

00:28:08 Speaker 1

Like sexual tension.

00:28:09 Speaker 2

Yeah, there the the blue of the freezer.

00:28:12 Speaker 1

Lights. Ohh yeah.

00:28:14 Speaker 2

Cast a sad glow, yes.

00:28:17 Speaker 2

She is leaning against the freezer but head straight.

00:28:22 Speaker 1

Right.

00:28:22 Speaker 2

Karma is almost.

00:28:24 Speaker 1

I was?

00:28:24 Speaker 1

Yeah, when I was rewatching that when I was like, why?

00:28:25

Into it.

00:28:27 Speaker 1

Is he so like?

00:28:28 Speaker 1

Like if you saw him in real life, you'd be like, are you OK, man?

00:28:32 Speaker 2

Yeah, he's like.

00:28:32 Speaker 2

Barely hanging in.

00:28:33 Speaker 2

Yeah, and she asks for his number.

00:28:37 Speaker 2

He gives it to her, but changes the last digit.

00:28:41 Speaker 1

Yes. Later we find out.

00:28:41 Speaker 2

I guess earlier in the season or in the maybe episode he gave it out to.

00:28:49 Speaker 2

Of like an inspector or something.

00:28:51

Oh, OK, yeah.

00:28:51 Speaker 2

Instead a da da da, da, da.

00:28:53 Speaker 2

So then when he gives it to Claire, he hesitates.

00:28:55 Speaker 1

Yeah, definitely a stumble there.

00:28:55 Speaker 2

The audience knows.

00:28:58 Speaker 2

That that it's fake.

00:29:00 Speaker 2

And then like, well, maybe we'll see this woman again.

00:29:02 Speaker 2

Maybe we won't.

00:29:03 Speaker 2

Clearly, the history that she says she remembers.

00:29:07 Speaker 2

Yes, the bear.

00:29:09 Speaker 2

He he says he's gonna open a restaurant.

00:29:12 Speaker 2

It's like I know exactly what's going to be called and you're like, no, no, you don't like.

00:29:16 Speaker 2

Yeah, I remember we talked about this.

00:29:18 Speaker 2

I was like, I'll give you.

00:29:19 Speaker 2

$1,000,000 right. If you remember, it's.

00:29:23 Speaker 2

It's like it's you or something.

00:29:24 Speaker 2

You're the bear.

00:29:24 Speaker 2

Yeah, yeah, yeah, very flirty.

00:29:25 Speaker 1

And I now remember the bear.

00:29:26 Speaker 1

OK.

00:29:27 Speaker 1

Yeah, I forget the bear.

00:29:31 Speaker 2

She's into him.

00:29:32 Speaker 2

And we can go more into the the Claire Charmy relationship.

00:29:36 Speaker 1

As it progresses.

00:29:38 Speaker 2

I got some notes.

00:29:39 Speaker 1

OK. Thoughts. Yeah.

00:29:40 Speaker 2

I have some.

00:29:43 Speaker 1

Yeah, I think I agree.

00:29:44 Speaker 1

OK, next episode is Sunday starts off.

00:29:48 Speaker 1

See this one?

00:29:48 Speaker 1

I forgot because I think I think in or in comparison to.

00:29:53 Speaker 1

So it's this one starts with Carmen at the L Anon meeting, right?

00:29:55 Speaker 1

And he's giving another one of his, like monologues.

00:29:58 Speaker 1

But it didn't seem as impactful as the very famous season one monologue that also took place in the AL Anon meeting.

00:30:05 Speaker 1

So I kind of forgot about it.

00:30:06 Speaker 1

So he talks about that and he, I guess according yeah, he talks about his search for fun.

00:30:10 Speaker 1

In in the AL Anon meeting.

00:30:14 Speaker 1

But then he's supposed to continue.

00:30:18 Speaker 1

Hanging out with Sydney to sort of reclaim their pallets or whatever cause they've both decided they've blown out their pallets so they need to recalibrate or whatever because I guess whatever they're sort of testing is all over the place.

00:30:30 Speaker 1

Karma blows her off, said he goes continues though, and has a tour.

00:30:34 Speaker 1

I don't know how she eats.

00:30:35 Speaker 1

All this food but she.

00:30:36 Speaker 2

It seemed like all in one day.

00:30:38

Yeah, just.

00:30:38 Speaker 1

Like it was all in one day, and even the leftovers at the end is like 2 little boxes.

00:30:42 Speaker 1

I was like, Dang, but yeah, she does, like, at least six restaurants and it ends with a giant sundae, which I assume was the reason it's called Sunday, which almost has, like, a Proustian moment, right?

00:30:53 Speaker 1

As she eats it and she sees the family and then brings back to her like her.

00:30:56 Speaker 1

Yeah, I think we learned later her mom took her there.

00:31:00 Speaker 1

But yes, but carmela's hanging out with uh Claire.

00:31:05 Speaker 2

And and this I think is the first time when Sydney.

00:31:09 Speaker 2

Decides she's going to do things on her own and like, **** army. Hmm. I have a job to do. We both have a job to do, right? Karma's not doing it.

00:31:21 Speaker 2

Grudgingly, I have no choice.

00:31:23 Speaker 2

I have to.

00:31:24 Speaker 2

I have.

00:31:24 Speaker 2

To do this I have to have delicious food.

00:31:27 Speaker 2

Meets with the restaurant tours across.

00:31:30 Speaker 2

The city.

00:31:31 Speaker 2

So that was a good growth moment for her.

00:31:32 Speaker 2

And then Carmen hangs out with Claire, goes to a house party.

00:31:37 Speaker 1

Just a later.

00:31:37 Speaker 2

10.

00:31:38 Speaker 1

Is that later?

00:31:39 Speaker 1

I don't know what they doing.

00:31:40 Speaker 2

Eventually they.

00:31:43 Speaker 2

Was it?

00:31:43 Speaker 2

Well, they don't show it because I think he was going to help her move because.

00:31:48 Speaker 2

She needed his van for something.

00:31:50 Speaker 1

New I think that's right.

00:31:51 Speaker 2

Or Ant I think was moving or something.

00:31:53 Speaker 1

Yes, right.

00:31:54 Speaker 1

We don't see them at all.

00:31:54 Speaker 2

No, but we.

00:31:54 Speaker 1

Yeah, this is mostly.

00:31:56 Speaker 1

And back at the beef or what was the beef, yeah, and the the more further destruction and the mold and the renovations, yes.

00:32:02 Speaker 2

Renovation Ritchie and and fact.

00:32:07 Speaker 1

Get into it.

00:32:08 Speaker 2

Get into.

00:32:08 Speaker 1

That's what he calls them.

00:32:09 Speaker 1

Richard Lawrence.

00:32:11 Speaker 2

Moving the the.

00:32:12 Speaker 1

Locker. The lockers? Yes.

00:32:14 Speaker 2

Discovering that Mickey's locker was empty except for a sweatshirt or a hat hat.

00:32:18 Speaker 1

The hat? Uh-huh.

00:32:20 Speaker 2

Yeah, that was a hat.

00:32:22 Speaker 2

Right, yeah.

00:32:22 Speaker 1

I'm not an *******.

00:32:25 Speaker 1

But yeah, that's yeah, I think that's basically the the, the third one, I think it's more, yeah that this was more just Sydney.

00:32:34 Speaker 1

Centric as she goes around Chicago tour of Food Chicago and also getting keeps on getting.

00:32:41 Speaker 2

Gout from all the.

00:32:42 Speaker 1

Salt from the salt but also getting all the advice from all the restaurant tours.

00:32:47 Speaker 1

Was about making sure that you're having a dependable partner.

00:32:53 Speaker 2

Is it in writing or like, are you?

00:32:54 Speaker 2

Splitting it 5050.

00:32:55 Speaker 1

Which I'm very confused because it looks like carmela's putting up all the money. Uh, and at least half of the know how right and like I know Sidney's putting in some of the recipe development, right?

00:33:06 Speaker 3

But I don't know.

00:33:07 Speaker 1

What skin is she putting in outside of giving up the the the salary during the the opening up until the opening or whatever, right?

00:33:14 Speaker 1

She's given like, six months of salary, right to save money or whatever.

00:33:18 Speaker 1

But outside of that, I.

00:33:19 Speaker 2

Mean, which is also I mean.

00:33:21 Speaker 2

It's her, her career.

00:33:23 Speaker 2

Six months of not getting paid, not moving forward in in a position and then having spent six months out of.

00:33:30 Speaker 2

Possibly failed restaurant, right, like.

00:33:33 Speaker 2

OK, well, I'm no farther along.

00:33:33 Speaker 1

But that's the life of a.

00:33:34 Speaker 1

Chef, kind of.

00:33:37 Speaker 1

You know.

00:33:38 Speaker 2

Uh, yeah.

00:33:39 Speaker 2

But if you're with someone who you at least feel comfortable and can trust and like?

00:33:43 Speaker 2

OK, we're in this.

00:33:44 Speaker 1

Together, right.

00:33:45 Speaker 1

But I think that was never delineated like what is together mean.

00:33:49 Speaker 1

And I think I mean that.

00:33:49 Speaker 1

Plays out.

00:33:49 Speaker 2

Because of those carmela's lack of leadership, that's.

00:33:54 Speaker 1

But then she could have asked too, to to, to define the terms of this partnership.

00:34:01 Speaker 2

Umm, but I don't think that's she's not ready for that to have that.

00:34:05 Speaker 1

That's probably true, right?

00:34:07 Speaker 2

Was it in the first season when?

00:34:08 Speaker 1

I think I guess they kind of have, they don't, they kind of have many arguments about sort of that as the season progresses.

00:34:14 Speaker 2

Yeah, they they circle around it in in ways that I think they're able to right.

00:34:19 Speaker 2

And the the easy solutions.

00:34:22 Speaker 2

They I don't think.

00:34:25 Speaker 2

In themselves to be able to do that, and they don't have a relationship where that kind of conversation could happen.

00:34:31 Speaker 1

Yeah, because overall they haven't known each other very long, right?

00:34:33 Speaker 1

Just that period of the beef, which is which is that's the one thing I was going to mention, is like, I don't know how time exists in this show.

00:34:37 Speaker 2

Yeah, which is.

00:34:43 Speaker 1

Like, sometimes stuff that should take a long time seems like it takes very short.

00:34:47 Speaker 1

And then that's another one, another Proustian version of time.

00:34:52 Speaker 1

It's like all over the place.

00:34:54 Speaker 2

Well, I think some of the stuff like.

00:34:58 Speaker 2

Richie becoming.

00:35:00 Speaker 2

OK.

00:35:01 Speaker 1

The arc of bridge is kind.

00:35:02 Speaker 2

Of quick right like a a three star Michelin restaurant dining room captain.

00:35:07 Speaker 1

For a week.

00:35:10 Speaker 2

And Marcus, even within the scope of season one, becoming like America's greatest pastry chef.

00:35:19 Speaker 1

Right.

00:35:19 Speaker 1

Well, he did.

00:35:19 Speaker 2

And then, right, so some of the stuff.

00:35:20 Speaker 1

He reads all those.

00:35:21 Speaker 1

Books and starts experimenting.

00:35:23 Speaker 2

Is just.

00:35:26 Speaker 2

TV magic like this journey happens right?

00:35:29 Speaker 2

And that type of.

00:35:33 Speaker 2

Or could they really become this in a week?

00:35:36 Speaker 2

I think it's secondary.

00:35:38 Speaker 2

It doesn't really.

00:35:40 Speaker 2

Matter and it doesn't like I'm not gonna be like, you know what?

00:35:43 Speaker 2

That couldn't happen.

00:35:44 Speaker 2

I don't believe this.

00:35:45 Speaker 2

Because I think it's more about the characters.

00:35:49 Speaker 2

Growth in their journey, rather than the specifics of whether their skill set could have been developed in the time.

00:35:55 Speaker 2

That it happens in the.

00:35:57 Speaker 1

Ultimately, I agree with that that because the show is so good, so well written, so well directed and acted in everything that that stuff does become off to the side, but it is one of those things like, especially when you consider the tight.

00:36:12 Speaker 1

Timeline that they keep on pushing.

00:36:14 Speaker 1

We gotta open this, but then.

00:36:15 Speaker 1

This blah blah.

00:36:15 Speaker 1

Blah yeah, that's the part that just I think a little bit takes me out.

00:36:20 Speaker 1

Of the whole thing.

00:36:22 Speaker 1

But ultimately, yeah, I don't think it matters, especially since I think they do set up enough little pinpoints that makes at least believable.

00:36:29 Speaker 2

Right.

00:36:30 Speaker 1

I don't know how probable, but believable.

00:36:33 Speaker 2

If you think about the timeline, it doesn't make sense.

00:36:35 Speaker 2

But if you just watch the show and has just enjoy it and and see the development of of the character, I think they play it.

00:36:44 Speaker 2

They play the growth.

00:36:47 Speaker 2

Of of the character.

00:36:48 Speaker 2

So you see the changes and you see still them slipping back into how they were.

00:36:53 Speaker 2

So it's not like overnight.

00:36:54 Speaker 4

Right.

00:36:55 Speaker 2

I'm perfect.

00:36:57 Speaker 2

It's it's like.

00:36:57 Speaker 2

The the AHA moments, the Prussian moments.

00:37:01 Speaker 2

I've I've discovered purpose.

00:37:02 Speaker 2

This is bringing me joy and I can relax a little bit.

00:37:05 Speaker 2

Yeah, and feel more comfortable in who I am and not feel the need to be someone.

00:37:10 Speaker 2

Else yeah, and.

00:37:12 Speaker 1

That helps them.

00:37:13 Speaker 1

I avoided reading any like reviews and stuff, but I read one interview of Ritchie Bachman.

00:37:18 Speaker 2

Ohh boy.

00:37:21 Speaker 1

What's his name?

00:37:22 Speaker 1

Burt Bacharach.

00:37:23 Speaker 2

Evan Moss backtrack.

00:37:24 Speaker 1

Backtrack him.

00:37:26 Speaker 1

And then, like, talk about, like, details of the show too much.

00:37:28 Speaker 1

But one of the things he did mention was actually that about the one of the questions about the arc of his character.

00:37:32 Speaker 1

I think for the AV club.

00:37:33 Speaker 1

So I didn't go in this super detail, but he also mentioned too, like he felt like he was fast.

00:37:38 Speaker 1

And he also talked about like the time.

00:37:39 Speaker 1

In the show how time is dealt with in the show.

00:37:42 Speaker 1

It's kind of like.

00:37:44 Speaker 1

Oh, elastic.

00:37:46 Speaker 1

But he did say, like, you know, reading when he said when he first read the script, it did seem like it was a quick.

00:37:50 Speaker 1

But when you do go back and see all the little changes he's done, it's there.

00:37:55 Speaker 1

It's there.

00:37:56 Speaker 1

So even though it is kind of maybe put into one episode or episode and a half, it's there's enough there to.

00:38:04 Speaker 1

To make it believable, yeah.

00:38:05 Speaker 2

I read an interview.

00:38:08 Speaker 2

Of Eben was interviewed by Sarah Paulson, and they talked about their experiences on the show.

00:38:11

OK.

00:38:13 Speaker 1

All right, because she.

00:38:14 Speaker 1

Does she's in fishers?

00:38:14

Yeah, yeah.

00:38:15 Speaker 1

I forgot.

00:38:17

Spoiler alert.

00:38:18 Speaker 1

Alright, let us continue the journey.

00:38:20 Speaker 2

Let us do it.

00:38:21 Speaker 1

Next course.

00:38:22 Speaker 1

Yeah, next course.

00:38:23 Speaker 1

Is the the fruit course?

00:38:26 Speaker 1

OK, this is.

00:38:26 Speaker 1

I think the first of the the two, what do we what the bottle episodes?

00:38:31 Speaker 1

Yeah, pretty much cuz they pretty much focused this is the one OK.

00:38:34 Speaker 1

So they send.

00:38:35 Speaker 1

Marcus off to go learn or become even more expert at at a proficient at at baking with one of Carmine's old I guess which we later learned one of.

00:38:45 Speaker 1

His old comrades.

00:38:46 Speaker 1

Yes, but obviously he must know him cause he sent.

00:38:48 Speaker 1

Him there, right.

00:38:49 Speaker 1

In Copenhagen, yes.

00:38:50 Speaker 1

Lives in a boat, feeds in.

00:38:52 Speaker 1

A A cat that doesn't exist or water is a cat.

00:38:55 Speaker 1

Yeah, this guy named Luca.

00:38:57 Speaker 1

Yeah, played by that one guy from.

00:38:59 Speaker 1

The Millers will Poulter.

00:39:00 Speaker 1

Poulter, from nerd to now, you know, lust, lustful.

00:39:04 Speaker 1

Yeah, those eyebrows.

00:39:05 Speaker 1

Everybody's after him.

00:39:06 Speaker 1

Big show of eyebrows, right?

00:39:09 Speaker 1

It was a very eyebrow show, Claire.

00:39:12 Speaker 3

I saw a a think.

00:39:14 Speaker 1

Piece or whatever on her eyebrows.

00:39:16 Speaker 1

Literally it was a.

00:39:18 Speaker 1

The girlfriend.

00:39:20 Speaker 2

Ohh Claire.

00:39:20 Speaker 2

Ohh yeah.

00:39:21 Speaker 2

Yeah, yeah.

00:39:21 Speaker 2

Claire bear.

00:39:22 Speaker 1

Claire bear.

00:39:23 Speaker 2

I know it's Claire bear.

00:39:24 Speaker 2

Pretty close.

00:39:25 Speaker 2

We we go back.

00:39:27 Speaker 1

Yeah, I forgot what magazine or what new Internet magazine.

00:39:31 Speaker 1

I couldn't finish, it was too long.

00:39:34 Speaker 1

Tell about the.

00:39:35 Speaker 1

You know the glory of her eyebrow.

00:39:37 Speaker 1

Very thick, yes, luscious.

00:39:39 Speaker 1

Yes, they called.

00:39:40 Speaker 1

It a unibrow.

00:39:41 Speaker 1

But there was gap.

00:39:42 Speaker 1

It's very close.

00:39:43 Speaker 1

But it wasn't one.

00:39:44 Speaker 2

Yeah. Well, sometimes I think.

00:39:46 Speaker 2

It's it's just that there.

00:39:48 Speaker 2

Their eyebrows and their eyes are just sat close.

00:39:52 Speaker 2

So it's not like.

00:39:52 Speaker 3

Like like.

00:39:54 Speaker 4

Like a possum, they're Opossum face.

00:40:01 Speaker 2

What's like practically on the bridge of the dude?

00:40:05 Speaker 2

Yeah, I think some people's eyebrows just grow close without it having that that TV.

00:40:11 Speaker 1

No, right.

00:40:12 Speaker 1

But most of the time in TV or movie.

00:40:14 Speaker 1

These those things getting plucked?

00:40:16 Speaker 2

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:40:16 Speaker 1

So they were kind of thinking like was this the actress saying?

00:40:19 Speaker 1

No, this is my eyebrows.

00:40:20 Speaker 1

Is it the director saying we're going for realism?

00:40:23 Speaker 1

Leave the eyebrows alone.

00:40:25 Speaker 1

Very curious where the eyebrows came from.

00:40:27 Speaker 1

OK, like whose choice?

00:40:28 Speaker 2

Was is not aware.

00:40:28 Speaker 2

That this was such a talking.

00:40:30 Speaker 1

You didn't know?

00:40:31 Speaker 1

Like what other show outside of like someone making fun of eyebrows?

00:40:35 Speaker 1

Do you see a main character, a female love interest character, having such?

00:40:41 Speaker 1

Unkempt I would.

00:40:42 Speaker 1

Say eyebrows because there's one thing to have those full eyebrows that are kind of popular.

00:40:46 Speaker 1

Yeah, but hers were literally.

00:40:49 Speaker 2

I didn't.

00:40:49 Speaker 1

Like little wild.

00:40:49 Speaker 2

I didn't.

00:40:50 Speaker 2

I didn't notice that.

00:40:52 Speaker 1

Yeah, gotta rewatch, man.

00:40:54 Speaker 1

Well, just eyebrows.

00:40:56 Speaker 1

Well, he literally.

00:40:56 Speaker 1

Google Claire eyebrows.

00:40:57 Speaker 1

I'm sure that article pops.

00:40:59 Speaker 2

It's gonna be all clear.

00:41:00 Speaker 2

Tappets she should get white.

00:41:01 Speaker 1

No, that would be for white hair.

00:41:02 Speaker 2

She should get white.

00:41:02 Speaker 2

Streaks in her eyebrows.

00:41:05 Speaker 1

But beyond the main focus of of Marcus learning that every second counts and the meticulousness of these high end dessert.

00:41:18 Speaker 1

We learn gnat sugar is pregnant.

00:41:21 Speaker 1

Rich, in fact, continue their arguments.

00:41:24 Speaker 1

Uh, in the remodel of the beef.

00:41:29

I am.

00:41:31 Speaker 1

But yeah, mostly old Marcus.

00:41:34 Speaker 1

He does save a man.

00:41:37 Speaker 1

Some kind of random bike accident got stuck under a fence.

00:41:40 Speaker 2

That felt like a very Atlanta.

00:41:43 Speaker 2

The surreal out of nowhere, why did this happen?

00:41:44 Speaker 1

Yeah, right.

00:41:48 Speaker 1

To show his humanity.

00:41:51 Speaker 2

Yeah, I guess so.

00:41:53 Speaker 2

Just out of nowhere.

00:41:55 Speaker 1

Literally right.

00:41:55 Speaker 1

He's like walking home or to.

00:41:56 Speaker 1

Work or something?

00:41:57 Speaker 1

Yeah, I think he was.

00:41:58 Speaker 2

Walking home from the restaurant, running the boat and some.

00:42:00 Speaker 2

And also how did that guy get pinned?

00:42:03 Speaker 2

How did he crash into a fence?

00:42:03 Speaker 3

I thought I was wondering.

00:42:05 Speaker 2

Was it like your bike get crashed?

00:42:06 Speaker 1

But it wasn't even under the fence.

00:42:08 Speaker 4

I was over the fence.

00:42:10 Speaker 1

I don't know how this guy would have crashed with the fence.

00:42:12 Speaker 1

And somehow ended up underneath it.

00:42:15 Speaker 1

Yeah, I don't know the physics of.

00:42:16 Speaker 1

That either, yeah.

00:42:18 Speaker 2

Somehow he was pinned.

00:42:21 Speaker 2

Yeah, under a three pounds.

00:42:24 Speaker 3

Tornado offense.

00:42:26 Speaker 1

I was surprised actually.

00:42:27 Speaker 1

Marcus tried because usually say like leave people alone, you know, because you don't.

00:42:30 Speaker 1

Know what you're gonna pull or gain?

00:42:31 Speaker 2

Oh yeah.

00:42:33 Speaker 1

But luckily everything turned out alright.

00:42:35 Speaker 1

The old man gave.

00:42:36 Speaker 1

Him a hug and.

00:42:37 Speaker 2

Biked along?

00:42:39 Speaker 2

They have good healthcare.

00:42:40 Speaker 2

The shoe, yeah.

00:42:41 Speaker 1

Nationalized health care.

00:42:42 Speaker 2

Yeah, yeah.

00:42:43 Speaker 2

And he got back on his bike.

00:42:44 Speaker 2

Right.

00:42:45 Speaker 1

To bike another day.

00:42:47 Speaker 2

Yeah, it was like goodbye.

00:42:49 Speaker 2

Chips rode off into the the darkness.

00:42:53 Speaker 1

And we do see also I guess, Marcus, right?

00:42:55 Speaker 1

He walks around, has some delicious looking pastries, takes some notes.

00:42:57 Speaker 2

Marcus Aurelia the snail.

00:43:01 Speaker 2

There's some pastries that he presents later in the season that I think.

00:43:06 Speaker 2

By his.

00:43:06 Speaker 1

Inspired by right the.

00:43:07 Speaker 1

Stuff he learned from Luca and his.

00:43:09 Speaker 2

Yeah, his eyebrows.

00:43:11 Speaker 2

As well, and that was an episode 2 where.

00:43:12 Speaker 2

What I love?

00:43:17 Speaker 2

It seemed like.

00:43:22 Speaker 2

Marcus was.

00:43:24 Speaker 2

Way out of his depth.

00:43:26 Speaker 3

Oh yeah.

00:43:26 Speaker 2

He's just completely struggling to tweeze those little.

00:43:29 Speaker 2

Pieces of whatever.

00:43:30 Speaker 1

Right.

00:43:30 Speaker 1

And after an unknown amount of.

00:43:32 Speaker 1

Time he's expert.

00:43:34 Speaker 2

But yes, and also the the coldness of seemingly coldness of Luca breaks down.

00:43:40 Speaker 2

They're able to have conversations.

00:43:41 Speaker 1

Yes. Were they?

00:43:42 Speaker 2

They're needing brand talking.

00:43:43 Speaker 2

Their background right talking about Scottie Pippen.

00:43:50 Speaker 1

Luca doesn't know, right, but he's heard of.

00:43:52 Speaker 2

Michael Jordan.

00:43:53 Speaker 2

And so there's a camaraderie.

00:43:57 Speaker 2

A respect between the two I.

00:43:59 Speaker 2

Think. Yeah, the I felt.

00:44:01 Speaker 2

That as an audience member, once they have the conversation once, like ohh OK, this guy's just not.

00:44:07 Speaker 2

Another ******* in the culinary world.

00:44:11 Speaker 2

And there's a certain amount of, like, tough love.

00:44:13 Speaker 2

Like, no, do it again, chef.

00:44:14 Speaker 3

Right.

00:44:14 Speaker 2

But they still call each other chef still having patience, just like.

00:44:16 Speaker 1

Right. There's no respect.

00:44:19 Speaker 2

Try it again and then and that could have just been like my sensitivity and just.

00:44:20 Speaker 1

He wasn't, like, slamming in his face.

00:44:26 Speaker 2

A guy that I like.

00:44:27 Speaker 2

To try and succeed and seeing him come up against some difficulties like Oh no, be nice to Marcus please.

00:44:35 Speaker 1

Right, yeah.

00:44:36 Speaker 2

And then.

00:44:38 Speaker 2

He comes, comes back with a.

00:44:39 Speaker 1

But but we now, I guess we do learn starting here kind of right, like the puppet puppet mastery of Carmi.

00:44:47 Speaker 2

Yeah, he's really sending people out.

00:44:52 Speaker 2

In some ways, molding his staff after his experience, like even the models, because we discovered that there's that photo I think of.

00:45:00 Speaker 2

Carmine and Luca.

00:45:00 Speaker 1

Of the three of them, yeah, at a.

00:45:02 Speaker 1

Cause cousin Terry.

00:45:04 Speaker 4

She has Terry, yeah.

00:45:06 Speaker 2

And Richie goes and works at the the restaurant because.

00:45:11 Speaker 2

Carmie and yeah, Terry worked together.

00:45:12 Speaker 1

To those stage.

00:45:16 Speaker 2

So he's using his connections.

00:45:18 Speaker 2

I don't think it's.

00:45:21 Speaker 2

Like this is what I went through.

00:45:22 Speaker 2

So you have to so but just.

00:45:25 Speaker 1

Right.

00:45:25 Speaker 1

It's like the next wave because they probably all went through like that ******** kitchen environment, but now they're like, at least trying to be the next wave.

00:45:34 Speaker 1

Where they're common, respectful, the more like Eric repair versus like Gordon Ramsay.

00:45:39 Speaker 2

Right, right.

00:45:41 Speaker 2

I think maybe in some ways that's.

00:45:45 Speaker 2

What Karma is doing for Tina, for ebra, for Marcus?

00:45:52 Speaker 2

Who am I missing?

00:45:53 Speaker 2

Everyone who's like trying to help?

00:45:56 Speaker 2

Oh, Richie.

00:45:56 Speaker 2

By sending him to the.

00:45:57 Speaker 2

Restaurant that's.

00:45:57 Speaker 3

Right.

00:45:58 Speaker 2

Almost his active service to them, yes.

00:46:01 Speaker 2

And showing love.

00:46:02 Speaker 2

And like I believe in you.

00:46:03 Speaker 2

I want you to succeed.

00:46:05 Speaker 1

Right.

00:46:05 Speaker 1

And sending in at two places, that's going to help them succeed in what I guess you can see in them what they.

00:46:10 Speaker 1

Want to like succeed in yes.

00:46:12 Speaker 2

Especially I think, Richie, who's like this is ********, right?

00:46:17 Speaker 2

Cause he hates it and he hates me, and that's he's punishing me by doing.

00:46:20

Right.

00:46:20 Speaker 2

This and then eventually comes.

00:46:23 Speaker 1

It comes around.

00:46:23 Speaker 2

To see the light, yeah.

00:46:27 Speaker 1

Ohh Marcus Marcus.

00:46:29 Speaker 1

This is another one though, so like sending Ibra and Tina to culinary school, which cannot be cheap, right, sending him to Copenhagen, which cannot be cheap even though I guess he got to stay in the boat for free.

00:46:40 Speaker 1

That helps a little bit, right?

00:46:41 Speaker 1

But it seemed like.

00:46:42 Speaker 1

It was a last minute ticket, so it can't be cheap, yeah.

00:46:46 Speaker 1

They're struggling for dollars.

00:46:48 Speaker 2

Right.

00:46:49 Speaker 1

Yeah, but less than two people.

00:46:52 Speaker 2

To call our school.

00:46:52 Speaker 1

Do culinary school and went to Copenhagen?

00:46:56 Speaker 1

For who knows how long.

00:46:56 Speaker 2

Week. Yeah. Weeks weeks, right?

00:46:59 Speaker 1

Which again because of the everything else, it outweighs that, but still.

00:47:05 Speaker 2

You got to think of.

00:47:09 Speaker 2

And if you invest in these?

00:47:12 Speaker 2

People. Yeah, yeah.

00:47:13 Speaker 1

Ohh for sure I completely believe and love that part sure.

00:47:16 Speaker 1

But when you have literally a self.

00:47:18 Speaker 1

Posed and and and.

00:47:20 Speaker 2

Isn't budget constraints? Yeah.

00:47:21 Speaker 1

Right. That is being highlighted every episode. It just, you know, gone's a little off.

00:47:27 Speaker 3

Just slightly, yeah.

00:47:31 Speaker 1

But again, yeah, every episode just like, so enjoyable.

00:47:35 Speaker 1

What do we?

00:47:36 Speaker 1

OK then we move on to episode called Pop.

00:47:40 Speaker 2

This is #4 number 55.

00:47:42 Speaker 1

Cindy continues developing the menu with Tina.

00:47:45 Speaker 1

This one she tries giving her a taste test and the the menu is very like busy.

00:47:50 Speaker 1

I think even Tina tells her that like there's too many ingredients.

00:47:51 Speaker 2

Ohh yeah, where does the?

00:47:52 Speaker 1

Yes, she's like.

00:47:53 Speaker 1

Oh yeah, right.

00:47:54 Speaker 2

Happened with Tina.

00:47:56 Speaker 2

Did that happen already?

00:47:57 Speaker 1

Ohh, it's when she I think that was later.

00:47:58 Speaker 2

Maybe goes?

00:48:00 Speaker 1

I think that maybe the next one when she's going or the next next one, the.

00:48:01 Speaker 2

OK.

00:48:03 Speaker 1

Next one, the next one, yeah.

00:48:03 Speaker 2

OK, we'll get to that.

00:48:07 Speaker 1

But this is the one where Natalie kind of does her like.

00:48:13 Speaker 1

Helpless act to get this.

00:48:15 Speaker 1

Road to help.

00:48:16 Speaker 1

With the application.

00:48:16 Speaker 2

I didn't get it all.

00:48:17 Speaker 4

Yeah, right, exactly.

00:48:18 Speaker 2

I'm sorry, can.

00:48:19 Speaker 2

You help me get the answers, yeah.

00:48:21 Speaker 1

And I'm surprised, actually.

00:48:23 Speaker 1

That Carmen gives her **** for that given like.

00:48:26 Speaker 1

She's getting the application.

00:48:27 Speaker 2

Right.

00:48:27 Speaker 1

You know she's doing what she has to do.

00:48:30 Speaker 1

But then yeah, Claire drives car me off to drop off the liquor license and they continue to bond.

00:48:36 Speaker 1

This is the one where they can they come back and he goes to the party with her and.

00:48:40 Speaker 1

They continue to.

00:48:42 Speaker 2

Yeah, go to a.

00:48:43 Speaker 1

A a break up party.

00:48:45 Speaker 2

A house?

00:48:47 Speaker 2

House Party for a breakup.

00:48:49 Speaker 1

With very adult people acting like it's a.

00:48:51 Speaker 2

Fraction like they're in their 30s.

00:48:52 Speaker 1

Right, right. Yeah. Fireworks and.

00:48:54 Speaker 2

It's like.

00:48:58 Speaker 2

The police con army gets confused for some other guy, some.

00:49:01

In high school.

00:49:02 Speaker 1

Dude named Nate, yes.

00:49:03 Speaker 2

And he's like, yeah, man, it's me, it's.

00:49:07 Speaker 1

And then this one ends in another big argument at the restaurant because after the party, they return.

00:49:11 Speaker 2

He takes it takes clarity.

00:49:12 Speaker 1

Hey, come to the restaurant to show her.

00:49:13 Speaker 2

Yeah, yeah.

00:49:14 Speaker 1

And then there's Richie yelling cause he was stealing the amperage from the other building and facts yelling and Sydney's yelling.

00:49:24 Speaker 1

And everybody's yelling some it's a mess.

00:49:28 Speaker 1

But then that ends with a sweet kiss.

00:49:31 Speaker 1

Between Carmen and.

00:49:31 Speaker 1

Claire. Oh yeah.

00:49:34 Speaker 1

That's the one.

00:49:35 Speaker 1

Yeah, we're fact tells them like, I think he's like you're welcome because that's the one that gave her his real number.

00:49:43 Speaker 2

Oh, was it?

00:49:44 Speaker 1

OK.

00:49:45 Speaker 1

Cause she knows the facts.

00:49:46 Speaker 2

Right.

00:49:47 Speaker 2

Yeah, who?

00:49:47 Speaker 3

Right, I forgot.

00:49:48 Speaker 2

She said.

00:49:49 Speaker 2

She asked.

00:49:51 Speaker 2

Yeah, it was.

00:49:52 Speaker 1

The fact ohh Neil Jeff.

00:49:56 Speaker 1

But yeah, that's when we start seeing a little bit, right, a little bit more of the acting of old Matheson.

00:50:01 Speaker 1

And he's like, oh, she's great and you're great and.

00:50:02 Speaker 1

I love you and it's going to be great.

00:50:03 Speaker 2

Uh-huh. Yeah.

00:50:05 Speaker 2

And it sounds like this nervousness.

00:50:07 Speaker 1

Yeah, as he was playing matchmaker, yeah.

00:50:08 Speaker 2

But excitement.

00:50:11 Speaker 1

UM.

00:50:13 Speaker 1

Then we move on to the the their version of or season 2's version of season 17. High *** tension. Yeah, episode. But now like exploded and three times as long.

00:50:28 Speaker 2

Yeah, it was.

00:50:30 Speaker 1

It's it was.

00:50:30 Speaker 2

At least an hour, hour 20.

00:50:32 Speaker 1

Yeah, this was the I'm sure everybody heard of it.

00:50:35 Speaker 1

The fishes episode.

00:50:36 Speaker 2

Yes it is. It is.

00:50:37 Speaker 1

Oh man.

00:50:38 Speaker 2

Flashback to I think about five years before present day, right?

00:50:43 Speaker 2

It is Christmas.

00:50:46 Speaker 2

Eve and Feast of the seven fishes tradition.

00:50:51 Speaker 2

Italian dinner, I think.

00:50:54 Speaker 2

Definitely in Chicago, obviously.

00:50:57 Speaker 2

And then I've I've read stuff online where it's not necessarily a.

00:51:00 Speaker 2

Regional it's it's regional.

00:51:02 Speaker 2

It's like people in Philadelphia.

00:51:04 Speaker 2

Like, I don't know, even if they're Italian American, where there's fish or seafood served 7, seven different ways, 7 preparation.

00:51:04

Right.

00:51:15 Speaker 2

It could be a branzino muscles and it is taking place at the Barrasso home.

00:51:21 Speaker 2

And it's the first time we are introduced to Donna, Donna, Claire and Carmine's mother.

00:51:30 Speaker 1

Next, net Mikey. Yeah, and.

00:51:30 Speaker 2

Not Claire. Sorry. Nah, sugar.

00:51:35 Speaker 1

Karma. Karma. Yeah.

00:51:36 Speaker 2

And so Mikey's still alive. So he's he's seen the.

00:51:38 Speaker 3

Right.

00:51:39 Speaker 1

Episode burn thawing around.

00:51:42 Speaker 2

Donna is played by Jamie Lee Curtis, yes.

00:51:45 Speaker 1

Already, Emmy talks, apparently.

00:51:48 Speaker 2

Sure. I mean it.

00:51:49 Speaker 2

Was really went for it, I almost feel.

00:51:52 Speaker 1

Like, that's her in real life.

00:51:53 Speaker 1

But that's the.

00:51:54 Speaker 1

Really, I always think she's like.

00:51:56 Speaker 1

That in real life, like just high strung because.

00:52:00 Speaker 2

That's because of her scream Queen persona.

00:52:06 Speaker 1

I just feel like every character she's ever, she's never played like an easygoing character.

00:52:10 Speaker 1

Every character turns.

00:52:13 Speaker 1

Kind of really high anxiety, no matter what the movie.

00:52:17 Speaker 1

She goes there that route.

00:52:18 Speaker 1

Which leads me to believe there's something.

00:52:20 Speaker 1

In there, in her on a regular basis.

00:52:23 Speaker 2

Maybe she's married to Christopher Guest.

00:52:25 Speaker 2

Yes, she's very chill, but ******* ish.

00:52:28 Speaker 1

I get that impression, yeah.

00:52:29 Speaker 2

Very prickly.

00:52:30

Right, yeah.

00:52:33 Speaker 2

Daughter of screen legend Tony Curtis.

00:52:37 Speaker 1

Yep, and.

00:52:38 Speaker 1

And his mom was famous.

00:52:39 Speaker 1

Or her.

00:52:40 Speaker 1

Her mom was.

00:52:40 Speaker 1

Famous too, right?

00:52:42 Speaker 1

It was in.

00:52:42 Speaker 2

Janet Lee of Psycho Sam.

00:52:44 Speaker 1

That's right. Duh. Yeah.

00:52:47 Speaker 4

Right.

00:52:48 Speaker 2

So long line of Screamers, I.

00:52:50 Speaker 2

Think is Tony Curtis wasn't a screamer was like.

00:52:56 Speaker 1

You're right that dude would not talk about, like, common swabs.

00:52:59 Speaker 1

You know he never was high anxiety even he was being in that amazing race, he.

00:53:04 Speaker 3

Was cool the whole.

00:53:06 Speaker 4

Time, yeah.

00:53:07 Speaker 2

With Mr. Bean.

00:53:10 Speaker 1

Anyway, back to fishes.

00:53:14 Speaker 1

Yeah, full of cameos left and right.

00:53:16 Speaker 1

Everybody's a cameo.

00:53:17 Speaker 2

The second.

00:53:18 Speaker 2

They come in the door.

00:53:19 Speaker 2

It's like, Oh my God.

00:53:20 Speaker 2

My God. Oh.

00:53:21 Speaker 2

My God, we have Bob Odenkirk as Uncle Lee, who is in business with Jimmy.

00:53:27 Speaker 1

Right.

00:53:28 Speaker 1

He's he's all of KBL.

00:53:29 Speaker 2

Yes, we found out.

00:53:31 Speaker 1

But he's not their.

00:53:34 Speaker 2

And some of the relationships are like how?

00:53:36

Are they related? Yeah.

00:53:39 Speaker 2

You have Gillian Jacobs.

00:53:41 Speaker 1

Yes, as a as Richie's wife. Yes. Yeah, you have.

00:53:41 Speaker 2

I'm not doing this in any.

00:53:42 Speaker 2

Particular order, it's.

00:53:48 Speaker 2

Sarah Paulson, Sarah Paulson a A.

00:53:48 Speaker 1

Which I'm unclear.

00:53:51 Speaker 1

Cousin, a cousin?

00:53:52 Speaker 1

I don't know who's a father.

00:53:54 Speaker 1

Who is? That's not Cicero.

00:53:55 Speaker 2

And and and a blood.

00:53:57 Speaker 2

Cousin, right?

00:53:58 Speaker 2

Cause she has the last name.

00:54:01 Speaker 2

John Mulaney as her husband.

00:54:04 Speaker 1

Where everything's gay but.

00:54:05 Speaker 1

He's not.

00:54:07 Speaker 1

And that's well, I guess he was in season one too.

00:54:10 Speaker 1

That's husband.

00:54:12 Speaker 2

Yeah, I looked him up and I thought.

00:54:14 Speaker 2

He is OK.

00:54:14 Speaker 1

He's in commercials a lot.

00:54:16 Speaker 1

You know that one?

00:54:17 Speaker 1

Have you seen this commercial?

00:54:18 Speaker 1

I think it's for insurance.

00:54:19 Speaker 1

Where, like 30 year olds are acting like they're old.

00:54:23 Speaker 1

And the guys teaching him how not to do it anyway, but.

00:54:25 Speaker 1

He's in that, OK.

00:54:33 Speaker 2

I think that's it for the cameos.

00:54:39 Speaker 2

We meet the the brother fact, Neils.

00:54:42 Speaker 1

Oh, that's a cameo. I.

00:54:43 Speaker 1

Just don't know who he is, I.

00:54:44 Speaker 2

Oh, he's the guy.

00:54:44 Speaker 1

Think a comedian?

00:54:44 Speaker 2

He's the guy too, OK.

00:54:45 Speaker 1

Yeah, yeah, the fat brothers who are dressed the same.

00:54:51 Speaker 1

And who have a course, a get rich quick scheme by selling baseball cards.

00:54:52 Speaker 2

Of there.

00:54:56 Speaker 2

Ohh yeah and ask.

00:54:59 Speaker 2

All. No, Steve, what's John Molina's characters name? Steve. If he has $400.00, he's like, he's like I'm a.

00:55:03 Speaker 1

I think, yeah.

00:55:05 Speaker 1

Right, some low number.

00:55:06 Speaker 3

42 year.

00:55:08 Speaker 2

Old man of.

00:55:08 Speaker 2

Course I have.

00:55:09 Speaker 1

$400.00 and he agrees to give it to them as long.

00:55:11 Speaker 2

He's like I'm gonna.

00:55:12 Speaker 3

As he gets updated like he knows his total, I'm.

00:55:17 Speaker 2

A ********.

00:55:18 Speaker 2

But like they're gonna do it.

00:55:19 Speaker 2

But it's not gonna make the money.

00:55:20 Speaker 1

And it still doesn't make sense cause it.

00:55:21 Speaker 1

Will be five years ago.

00:55:23 Speaker 1

The the the baseball card, like industry, whatever.

00:55:27 Speaker 2

Ten oh.

00:55:29 Speaker 1

Tank the long *** time.

00:55:30 Speaker 1

Yeah, unless you have literally, like a Michael.

00:55:32 Speaker 1

Jordan rookie or?

00:55:33 Speaker 1

Something right?

00:55:34 Speaker 1

Nothing is gonna be worth.

00:55:35 Speaker 1

Anything. Yeah, well.

00:55:37 Speaker 3

They're trying, I guess, yes, they're.

00:55:38 Speaker 1

Yeah. Hustling. Yeah. So weird hustle in 2002, 1020.

00:55:47 Speaker 2

No. Well, if this 2018.

00:55:50 Speaker 1

Oh, it is modern timer, yeah.

00:55:51

All right.

00:55:53 Speaker 2

Somewhere around there.

00:55:55 Speaker 2

OK, so everyone comes together for this.

00:55:58 Speaker 1

Yeah, it's madness.

00:56:01 Speaker 1

Well, from the get go, we get the hint of madness, right?

00:56:03 Speaker 1

Cause it starts with the outside and they're trying to get away from.

00:56:07 Speaker 2

Being inside there was a discussion between the sibling, Mikey Carm and Sugar, about how to handle them right.

00:56:13 Speaker 1

Yeah, no, stop telling Mom if she's OK.

00:56:18 Speaker 2

They're coming out for a smoke break because God help them.

00:56:20 Speaker 2

They cannot survive.

00:56:22 Speaker 2

Deedee in the kitchen.

00:56:24 Speaker 2

Who's who's cooking?

00:56:26 Speaker 2

Yeah, so it's tense.

00:56:28 Speaker 2

Obviously have a fraught relationship with her mother.

00:56:31 Speaker 2

But we've not seen her at this point.

00:56:32 Speaker 2

At the very beginning of the episode, we go into the house, get all the cameos.

00:56:36 Speaker 2

Holy ****, how are so many people in this?

00:56:40 Speaker 2

Episode and then we get into the kitchen.

00:56:43 Speaker 2

We see Deedee cooking.

00:56:45 Speaker 2

She's manic as hell, drinking heavily.

00:56:49 Speaker 1

Drinking heavily has like 5 different clocks. There's like red sauce all over the kitchen and and food's bubbling and burning and she is.

00:56:59 Speaker 2

Yelling at people to raise to doing stuff.

00:57:02 Speaker 2

Emotionally dysregulated.

00:57:05 Speaker 2

Super narcissistic.

00:57:05 Speaker 1

Yeah, yeah.

00:57:07 Speaker 2

Just high strung.

00:57:09 Speaker 2

Yeah, performance.

00:57:11 Speaker 1

Portal psycho.

00:57:12 Speaker 2

And then again with the the camera work choreographed amazingly.

00:57:19 Speaker 2

Everyone's running around.

00:57:22 Speaker 2

People are talking over each.

00:57:23 Speaker 1

Other yes.

00:57:23 Speaker 2

It was like Greta Gerwig, little women we have like 5 people.

00:57:27 Speaker 2

Just just thought so excited your timers going.

00:57:29 Speaker 1

It's the real the real feel of the family.

00:57:32 Speaker 2

I don't remember what.

00:57:34 Speaker 2

If anything, music, I think there's music playing underneath, which I'm sure adds to it.

00:57:39 Speaker 2

The timers go off and it's like a.

00:57:41 Speaker 2

Quick cut and zoom so you just push in on on the timer and that.

00:57:44 Speaker 1

Right, the.

00:57:47 Speaker 2

Mirrors season one, when time is going off in the kitchen and recreating that feel.

00:57:55 Speaker 2

At home?

00:57:57 Speaker 2

And Carmine's trying to help.

00:58:00 Speaker 2

And they're all trying to deal with their mother in different ways.

00:58:04 Speaker 2

And Uncle Lee comes in and.

00:58:07 Speaker 1

Right.

00:58:07 Speaker 1

What is Uncle Lee, is he?

00:58:09 Speaker 4

Trying to get.

00:58:10 Speaker 2

With there's a little flirty.

00:58:12 Speaker 1

But then there's a little bit with Cicero, too.

00:58:16 Speaker 2

And so is Cicero.

00:58:17 Speaker 2

I don't know the relations.

00:58:19 Speaker 2

I don't.

00:58:22 Speaker 2

But Jimmy is blood, is he?

00:58:28 Speaker 3

I thought so.

00:58:29 Speaker 2

But just not to Richie because he's not an actual part of the family.

00:58:32 Speaker 1

Cousin, right?

00:58:33 Speaker 2

Even they.

00:58:33 Speaker 2

Call each other cause.

00:58:34 Speaker 1

Well, that part was funny cuz remember, in episode one where he's like, who's Lee and she's like Uncle Lee, right?

00:58:41 Speaker 1

He's like, he's not even her uncle. And she says, well, Richie's not your cousin. And they could hear rich in the background, like resenting and heard and resented.

00:58:51 Speaker 1

But when you mention right now about all the talking, that's another great part of the series, like every episode has all the background noises.

00:58:59 Speaker 1

Yeah, and the voices and the distant voices.

00:59:02 Speaker 1

Which gives it the air of of being in a real.

00:59:06 Speaker 2

Yeah, I I guess we haven't gotten to inspections yet, but the.

00:59:12 Speaker 2

And the inspector will get to that.

00:59:13 Speaker 1

Yes, yes, which I'm sure was to some degree scripted right, all these side off to off conversations problem that are still coming to like the sound.

00:59:24 Speaker 2

Yeah, maybe they gave him a little leeway.

00:59:25 Speaker 2

With like just talk.

00:59:26 Speaker 1

Yeah, the sound design. Amazing. Yeah. What is Atlanta? To Michael Gambino's Childish Gambino sound guy.

00:59:34 Speaker 2

Did you did he have that kind of stuff?

00:59:37 Speaker 2

I don't know if he had.

00:59:38 Speaker 2

That kind of talking over.

00:59:40

I don't think.

00:59:40 Speaker 1

They did seem like everybody was talking at once.

00:59:42 Speaker 1

In that show, yeah.

00:59:44 Speaker 1

As most shows do.

00:59:50 Speaker 2

There is a scene between Richie and Carmie under the stairs where they go into that pantry.

00:59:58 Speaker 1

Or the sketch.

01:00:00 Speaker 2

Yes, of of the restaurant.

01:00:02 Speaker 1

Yeah, the idea Carmy wants to open the.

01:00:06 Speaker 1

With Mikey and Mikey cries when he walks away.

01:00:11 Speaker 1

And goes and does.

01:00:12 Speaker 2

Drugs and and then calm comes back and he's gone.

01:00:17 Speaker 1

Next time we see him, he's giving story tell.

01:00:20 Speaker 1

The time.

01:00:21 Speaker 1

But you can tell like he was already kind of down.

01:00:23 Speaker 1

Uh, but when they show him again, he's all like.

01:00:24 Speaker 1

Hyped up telling his stories.

01:00:27 Speaker 2

Ohh yes, and Lee.

01:00:29 Speaker 1

We've heard this one before, right?

01:00:31 Speaker 2

Right.

01:00:31 Speaker 2

Which leads to some tension at the table.

01:00:31 Speaker 4

And they can start.

01:00:33 Speaker 1

******** tension.

01:00:34 Speaker 2

And then I think just before that.

01:00:38 Speaker 2

Gillian Jacobs character forget her name, Tiffany Tiffany goes upstairs because she's pregnant.

01:00:43 Speaker 1

Feeling sick?

01:00:44 Speaker 2

Ritchie comes up and they have a conversation.

01:00:46 Speaker 1

About their future.

01:00:47 Speaker 1

Yeah, cause she wants to move into a bigger place as they're growing family.

01:00:52 Speaker 2

Richie says unk. Yeah.

01:00:55 Speaker 2

Miss John.

01:00:55 Speaker 1

She's been trying to work on Cicero for a job, a job, whatever that.

01:01:00 Speaker 1

Means we don't even know.

01:01:00 Speaker 2

Right, right, right.

01:01:02 Speaker 1

To what degree is this guy, Moby, Moby, right?

01:01:07 Speaker 2

And we don't.

01:01:08 Speaker 2

And just going back to family relations, Uncle Lee.

01:01:12 Speaker 2

He's Polish, we know that.

01:01:15

Right.

01:01:15 Speaker 1

But how he knows anybody?

01:01:17 Speaker 1

Why he's?

01:01:17 Speaker 1

There no idea.

01:01:19 Speaker 1

And which we don't learn even throughout the season.

01:01:21 Speaker 1

That's the thing.

01:01:22 Speaker 1

The big question Mark is, who's the dad?

01:01:23 Speaker 1

Right.

01:01:24 Speaker 1

Who's the Barot so.

01:01:25 Speaker 2

Patriarch dead, I assumed.

01:01:28 Speaker 1

Right, right.

01:01:29 Speaker 1

But he must be the the linchpin of.

01:01:32 Speaker 2

This. Ohh yeah yeah yeah.

01:01:32 Speaker 1

Groups, right? But.

01:01:36 Speaker 2

So then we we move from the kitchen to the dinner table, Mikey starts telling the.

01:01:44 Speaker 2

Lee's like, OK, We've heard this a million times.

01:01:47 Speaker 1

Yeah. And you're on drugs.

01:01:51 Speaker 1

And also you still have.

01:01:53 Speaker 1

Diane. Deedee. Donna. Sorry. Deedee.

01:01:56 Speaker 2

She's still in the still in.

01:01:57 Speaker 1

The kitchen?

01:01:57 Speaker 1

Yeah, and freaking out.

01:01:59 Speaker 1

Carmine's having his own thing with.

01:02:01 Speaker 1

Her. Yes. Where she's.

01:02:02 Speaker 1

Like getting mad at him now.

01:02:05 Speaker 1

Gives him like, a slap and.

01:02:06 Speaker 2

You didn't.

01:02:06 Speaker 2

You didn't take out.

01:02:07 Speaker 2

The whatever, like there's something that's like you.

01:02:10 Speaker 1

And then I think he even asked her, like, not he didn't say are you OK?

01:02:13 Speaker 1

But something along those lines.

01:02:14 Speaker 2

Right.

01:02:14 Speaker 1

And then when she.

01:02:15 Speaker 1

Like gonna, like kill him.

01:02:17 Speaker 2

Sugar keeps pouring booze down the drain.

01:02:20 Speaker 1

Right.

01:02:20 Speaker 2

She can't?

01:02:20 Speaker 1

Trying to get away from the mother.

01:02:22 Speaker 1

So we have the high tension in the kitchen.

01:02:24 Speaker 1

We have this growing tension at.

01:02:25 Speaker 1

The dinner table.

01:02:27 Speaker 1

Which leads to.

01:02:30 Speaker 2

It's like.

01:02:30 Speaker 1

Throwing right the fork throwing, but Odin Kirk just going like.

01:02:37 Speaker 4

Mad mad it was right.

01:02:38 Speaker 2

Like Chicago?

01:02:39 Speaker 2

Yeah, I will.

01:02:41 Speaker 2

Like, I will drop you.

01:02:42 Speaker 2

You can.

01:02:42 Speaker 2

Let's go.

01:02:43 Speaker 2

Where do.

01:02:43 Speaker 3

You wanna go?

01:02:43 Speaker 3

You wanna go outside?

01:02:43 Speaker 3

Yeah, it was.

01:02:45 Speaker 1

He went crazy like was.

01:02:46 Speaker 1

If you throw that.

01:02:47 Speaker 1

Fork I go, I will.

01:02:48 Speaker 3

******* Rock You.

01:02:50 Speaker 3

And you can say you.

01:02:50 Speaker 1

******* rude. It's like damn.

01:02:52 Speaker 3

You like nothing.

01:02:53 Speaker 3

You want nothing.

01:02:54 Speaker 3

You just nothing.

01:02:55 Speaker 1

Heatedly, repeatedly abuse that was.

01:02:59 Speaker 1

Some of the.

01:03:00 Speaker 1

How crazy is Odenkirk already acting?

01:03:03 Speaker 1

Yeah, like that was from from deep down.

01:03:08 Speaker 2

I thought.

01:03:11 Speaker 2

It seems a little crazy now.

01:03:12 Speaker 2

I was like, is he just?

01:03:13 Speaker 2

Gonna go up to.

01:03:14 Speaker 2

Lee and just that's what I was.

01:03:16 Speaker 1

Thinking fork in the.

01:03:17 Speaker 2

Back right?

01:03:18 Speaker 1

That's what I was thinking.

01:03:19 Speaker 1

Yeah, because even throwing it, you know, that's dangerous.

01:03:22 Speaker 1

But the way he was kind of holding it and he don't even how Lee was kind of egging him on a little bit, I thought.

01:03:26 Speaker 2

Uh, yeah, yeah.

01:03:27 Speaker 1

He was going to go for the jugular too.

01:03:30 Speaker 1

Especially he was on drugs.

01:03:31 Speaker 1

Who knows what he was gonna do?

01:03:34 Speaker 1

But uh. So then eventually.

01:03:37 Speaker 1

The the the food is served.

01:03:40 Speaker 1

Steve, to help break the tension, give the prayer.

01:03:44 Speaker 2

Yeah, there's some some argument over who.

01:03:46 Speaker 2

Would lead it.

01:03:47 Speaker 1

Oh, that's right.

01:03:48 Speaker 1

And then he gets nominated as.

01:03:49 Speaker 1

Like his neutral party, right?

01:03:50 Speaker 2

And then.

01:03:53 Speaker 2

I think this is where we can maybe just talk about the guest stars and how successful the cameos were.

01:03:59 Speaker 2

I think I was most distracted by Mulaney.

01:04:02 Speaker 1

Oh for sure.

01:04:03 Speaker 2

And felt that he.

01:04:06 Speaker 1

Was unnecessary.

01:04:09 Speaker 2

He was.

01:04:11 Speaker 2

I always thought of him as Mulaney, playing a guy where everyone else, even though I recognized them, they were a.

01:04:17 Speaker 1

Character for sure, yeah.

01:04:20 Speaker 2

When he gave the prayer.

01:04:24 Speaker 2

The camera was not on him for most of it and I felt that his vocal work, his delivery.

01:04:31 Speaker 2

Felt like true.

01:04:34 Speaker 2

And like, OK, I was able to divorce.

01:04:37 Speaker 1

His face because he was doing like a face too.

01:04:40 Speaker 1

Like he was like this the.

01:04:41 Speaker 1

Whole time for all our.

01:04:43 Speaker 1

Listeners, you can see my face.

01:04:46 Speaker 3

Just picture a face.

01:04:48 Speaker 3

You got it.

01:04:48 Speaker 3

That's what.

01:04:48 Speaker 1

Well, he kind of had like, half closed eyes, kind of maybe pucker to your lips.

01:04:53 Speaker 1

And we're just kind of like.

01:04:54 Speaker 2

I was, yeah.

01:04:54 Speaker 2

I was wondering at what stage of recovery he was filming that and where he was mentally, emotionally and.

01:05:03 Speaker 1

But like I said earlier, he that he.

01:05:05 Speaker 1

Hasn't been right.

01:05:06 Speaker 4

He didn't come back right, didn't come back right.

01:05:09 Speaker 2

I mean, it's still early, you know, it's still still working through it a lot, lots going on, so.

01:05:14 Speaker 1

Yeah, with him and his hot girlfriend wife are.

01:05:16 Speaker 1

They married money.

01:05:18 Speaker 2

Girlfriends, yes.

01:05:19 Speaker 1

You're OK, but father or mother of his.

01:05:22 Speaker 1

Yes, Malcolm.

01:05:23 Speaker 1

OK, Malcolm Mulaney.

01:05:25 Speaker 2

Yeah, Eminem.

01:05:27 Speaker 1

A lot of umms too, cause she's mun.

01:05:30 Speaker 2

Oh yeah.

01:05:30 Speaker 1

There could be Malcolm Munn, Mulaney.

01:05:32 Speaker 2

Could be who knows what the.

01:05:35 Speaker 2

The middle name is oh.

01:05:43 Speaker 2

So yeah, I was.

01:05:43 Speaker 2

I enjoyed.

01:05:45 Speaker 2

Hearing him.

01:05:47 Speaker 1

You can see.

01:05:49 Speaker 3

He's better heard.

01:05:50 Speaker 2

Not seeing, yes.

01:05:53 Speaker 2

Sarah Paulson, I thought, was amazing.

01:05:55 Speaker 2

I fully believed her as as like.

01:05:56 Speaker 1

She fitting a family.

01:05:58 Speaker 2

That's that's a character.

01:05:59 Speaker 2

That's not Sarah Paulson.

01:06:00

Right.

01:06:04 Speaker 2

Another great performance by Maddie Matheson just being a goofball.

01:06:07 Speaker 1

And the other fact, brother.

01:06:10 Speaker 2

Whoever he is.

01:06:12 Speaker 2

Gillian Jacobs.

01:06:13 Speaker 1

Ohh she was great.

01:06:15 Speaker 1

She's good in everything, yeah.

01:06:17 Speaker 1

She was really good as a yeah, tiff.

01:06:20 Speaker 2

Who else?

01:06:22 Speaker 2

Well, there's D.

01:06:25 Speaker 1

Right. Yeah. Who? Just.

01:06:27 Speaker 1

On the 11, the whole.

01:06:29 Speaker 1

I guess you vacillated between 11 and 13.

01:06:33 Speaker 2

Yeah, her base was 11.

01:06:35 Speaker 3

Exactly right.

01:06:37 Speaker 1

Man, I don't understand.

01:06:39 Speaker 1

I got the impression that was not the first.

01:06:42 Speaker 1

Christmas like that.

01:06:43 Speaker 1

Who would return?

01:06:44 Speaker 2

Yeah. Who the ****?

01:06:45 Speaker 2

That that was this like lease as well, I guess we all expected that to happen.

01:06:49 Speaker 1

Right.

01:06:50 Speaker 1

Especially when.

01:06:51 Speaker 1

What's his name goes crazy and, like, knocks over the table.

01:06:54 Speaker 1

Right.

01:06:54 Speaker 1

Ohh, then obviously the big finish.

01:06:57 Speaker 1

Ohh yes.

01:06:58 Speaker 1

Or and Jamie or Donna drives to you.

01:07:01 Speaker 2

The car.

01:07:01 Speaker 1

It's just a one up the.

01:07:02 Speaker 1

Nonsense drives a car through the wall of the.

01:07:05 Speaker 2

House right crashes into the the dinner party and.

01:07:08 Speaker 1

Yeah, Carmi gets lost by staring at the cannoli.

01:07:14 Speaker 1

And like just connects.

01:07:14 Speaker 2

Cut the cut.

01:07:15 Speaker 2

The black it's.

01:07:15 Speaker 1

Yeah, just connects from what's going on by just staring at the canoe, yes.

01:07:21 Speaker 2

It was clear that this is how she.

01:07:23 Speaker 2

Is. Ohh.

01:07:24 Speaker 2

And that there has been a lot of seven fishes that are like this and that she is volatile and that is the environment that.

01:07:31 Speaker 1

They grew up in.

01:07:31 Speaker 2

Mikey and Carmi, and and sugar.

01:07:35 Speaker 2

Grew up in right and that this is.

01:07:38 Speaker 2

It wasn't.

01:07:41 Speaker 2

The meal that informed how and why Carmi is the way he is, what it's like representative of.

01:07:50 Speaker 1

The path he chose.

01:07:52 Speaker 1

And his.

01:07:55 Speaker 2

Experience growing up in that in that household.

01:07:56 Speaker 1

Yeah, and it makes sense why, Mike, you would be the one to commit suicide because it seemed like he's the one that stayed right.

01:08:01 Speaker 1

Carney went off to Copenhagen and to be in restaurants, sugar left by the seemingly left.

01:08:04 Speaker 2

He got out, yeah.

01:08:08 Speaker 1

And like Mikey's, the one that stayed there to deal, I'd imagine. Maybe because he's the oldest, because then he's explained.

01:08:13 Speaker 1

But I assume maybe because he's the oldest after the father died.

01:08:16 Speaker 1

Maybe he stayed to help take care of the mother.

01:08:18 Speaker 1

And that was just maybe the worst thing.

01:08:20 Speaker 2

He could have done for himself.

01:08:22 Speaker 2

And I mean, he had the the.

01:08:24 Speaker 1

Beef, right, which was didn't seem to be a great venture.

01:08:28 Speaker 2

Right.

01:08:29 Speaker 2

So I think I, I don't think he had anywhere.

01:08:30 Speaker 2

Else to go right because Lee.

01:08:32 Speaker 2

Was I'm sure he could have.

01:08:33 Speaker 1

Found an apartment or something.

01:08:34 Speaker 2

Talking about him as a complete failure and like.

01:08:36 Speaker 1

Right.

01:08:36 Speaker 1

He kept on like, half, half thought out ideas, failed other.

01:08:39 Speaker 2

Right.

01:08:41 Speaker 1

Maybe there's other failed restaurants maybe, but yeah, that he kept on, like, leaching money from the mom.

01:08:46 Speaker 1

But it could have been one of those like.

01:08:49 Speaker 1

Symbiotic bad, toxic relationship.

01:08:51 Speaker 1

Right.

01:08:52 Speaker 1

I'll give you money as long as you stay here and, like, continue with my madness.

01:08:58 Speaker 2

The toxicity.

01:08:59 Speaker 1

In the city of the.

01:09:00 Speaker 2

City in the family.

01:09:04 Speaker 1

But man, yeah.

01:09:05 Speaker 1

What an episode from start to finish it was.

01:09:06 Speaker 1

Just like caught.

01:09:08 Speaker 1

Under a wave and it just didn't let up.

01:09:10 Speaker 2

Yeah, I felt tense once it was.

01:09:11 Speaker 4

Oh for sure. Ohh.

01:09:11 Speaker 2

Over I was.

01:09:12 Speaker 1

Like, yeah, you get it was palpable release.

01:09:15 Speaker 2

I gotta I gotta stretch.

01:09:17 Speaker 2

I'm glad I'm not in this situation anymore, right?

01:09:20 Speaker 2

I was almost like I had to numb my.

01:09:22 Speaker 2

Emotions, yeah.

01:09:23 Speaker 1

It was non-stop barrage. I wouldn't. I wouldn't even want to.

01:09:27 Speaker 2

Be their neighbor.

01:09:29 Speaker 2

No, I wouldn't want to.

01:09:31 Speaker 2

Get my house crashed into.

01:09:32 Speaker 3

Right.

01:09:33 Speaker 3

Put them on big fence in the front.

01:09:36 Speaker 1

Which actually now you mentioned that when they showed the exterior shot.

01:09:40 Speaker 1

Now I'm curious how she could have gotten into the house that way because it looked like.

01:09:43 Speaker 1

They're all those like old Schooley like.

01:09:46 Speaker 1

Thin house.

01:09:47 Speaker 1

I don't know the the the description.

01:09:48 Speaker 2

Oh, this little row house.

01:09:49 Speaker 3

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

01:09:50 Speaker 1

So how she?

01:09:52 Speaker 1

Got a cart.

01:09:52 Speaker 1

Through the wall, given how narrow it appeared that whatever.

01:09:55 Speaker 2

Well, they come in through the.

01:09:56 Speaker 2

Front I think maybe that was the back in.

01:09:57 Speaker 1

The original and the the opening.

01:09:59 Speaker 2

There was.

01:10:01 Speaker 2

Not that that it would explain it, but I think in filming they were in.

01:10:06 Speaker 2

Two or three different houses plus a sound stage, I think.

01:10:12 Speaker 2

OK, so there's a lot of moving around.

01:10:15 Speaker 2

I don't know how like if maybe the the living room.

01:10:19 Speaker 2

And certain parts of the interior were.

01:10:20 Speaker 2

In one space.

01:10:24 Speaker 2

And then maybe kitchen and dining were another and then another part of it, like the bedrooms.

01:10:30 Speaker 1

Well, there's definitely upstairs.

01:10:31 Speaker 2

Or the.

01:10:34 Speaker 2

Maybe was on a?

01:10:34 Speaker 2

Sound stage well.

01:10:36 Speaker 1

No, right.

01:10:36 Speaker 1

I believe that I'm just trying to think of like the layout, if we're to believe they're filming or if we're to believe the house right in the show.

01:10:44 Speaker 1

Yeah, because even when they were out smoking, right there was.

01:10:46 Speaker 1

A few steps.

01:10:48 Speaker 1

So how do you then crash straight?

01:10:52 Speaker 1

Into seemingly A narrow house, which is why it goes vertical.

01:10:57 Speaker 2

Because she came in.

01:10:59 Speaker 2

I give this to this side.

01:10:59 Speaker 1

Was shot in the suburb or something or like in a flat house.

01:11:02 Speaker 2

Uh-huh. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

01:11:02 Speaker 1

Fully believable, right?

01:11:03 Speaker 1

We've seen that happen in other movie shows, but given the narrowness.

01:11:09 Speaker 1

Of the architecture.

01:11:11 Speaker 1

And that they seem to be steps up into the house.

01:11:13 Speaker 2

If I would say.

01:11:15 Speaker 1

She put a.

01:11:17 Speaker 1

She could she hot wheeled it.

01:11:20 Speaker 2

This should come in at an angle, so if you're looking at the front of the house, you would have come in at an angle to the left of the front door cuz I imagine you walk in to the left of the dining room and then behind that would be the kitchen so she kind of went right next to the.

01:11:37 Speaker 2

The front door right and then went into the the side of the dining room instead of going.

01:11:45 Speaker 2

It's like straight at.

01:11:46 Speaker 2

It, which I think would have come in.

01:11:47 Speaker 2

From the other wall.

01:11:49 Speaker 1

Ohh OK all right.

01:11:51 Speaker 2

I think if I I'm not good with abstract construction space.

01:11:54

Right, yeah.

01:11:55 Speaker 2

And my and my noodle.

01:11:58 Speaker 2

That's how I think that that.

01:12:01 Speaker 1

Went down.

01:12:01 Speaker 1

Yeah, but overall, right, we learned so much back.

01:12:05 Speaker 1

Story of the chaos that is hinted at up until this episode.

01:12:10 Speaker 1

Yes, of the family dynamic and why people are the way they are.

01:12:19 Speaker 1

Next episode is the next sort of bottle episode.

01:12:26 Speaker 1

This is we can't talk a little bit.

01:12:27 Speaker 1

We go a little bit fast, Ritchie goes to staj.

01:12:32 Speaker 1

And it kind of completes a little bit, yeah.

01:12:33 Speaker 2

This is this is force.

01:12:34 Speaker 1

It arcs, yeah. Forks.

01:12:36 Speaker 2

And he goes to a high end restaurant that Richie.

01:12:41 Speaker 2

No, Richie, that Carmen, at least maybe not work that, but at least work for the chef at some point, and he's all he has to do is Polish forks and.

01:12:43 Speaker 1

Carmine's like.

01:12:45 Speaker 1

For the chef, yeah.

01:12:51 Speaker 2

He hates it.

01:12:52 Speaker 1

Right.

01:12:53 Speaker 1

Thinks it's dumb things.

01:12:54 Speaker 1

It's stupid.

01:12:55 Speaker 1

Even things.

01:12:55 Speaker 2

And it's a punishment.

01:12:55 Speaker 1

The idea of high dining, fine dining.

01:12:58 Speaker 1

It's stupid.

01:12:59 Speaker 1

Completely against it, right?

01:13:01 Speaker 2

It's all ********.

01:13:02 Speaker 1

Right as the episode progresses, kind of breaks down, sees the reason that you're talk about earlier.

01:13:09 Speaker 1

This is a return to.

01:13:10 Speaker 1

Maybe this is the theme of service again, right?

01:13:11 Speaker 2

Yes, he has a conversation with.

01:13:14 Speaker 2

I don't. I forget.

01:13:14 Speaker 1

The lead, stagger or whatever that dude is, right?

01:13:17 Speaker 1

The Asian guy.

01:13:18 Speaker 2

Yeah, it's the he's on.

01:13:20 Speaker 2

He's on platonic.

01:13:22 Speaker 1

Yes, he is.

01:13:23 Speaker 1

The mustache majority owner.

01:13:26 Speaker 4

Of lucky penny.

01:13:28 Speaker 2

Yeah, it's like let's go outside because Richie was not.

01:13:33 Speaker 1

He wasn't having it.

01:13:34 Speaker 2

Now, and he explained why he got into fine dining.

01:13:39 Speaker 2

Extreme fine dining like right?

01:13:41 Speaker 2

This is 11.

01:13:42 Speaker 1

The highest.

01:13:44 Speaker 2

Madison Park, right? Yeah.

01:13:48 Speaker 2

And it was, it was service.

01:13:49 Speaker 2

It was doing things for people and Richie and under.

01:13:54 Speaker 2

Did it from that right and you get rid of all the the the pretense and the fancy food and all the the stuff that he perceived his ********.

01:14:02 Speaker 4

Right.

01:14:02 Speaker 2

So you're ultimately doing something for people.

01:14:04 Speaker 2

And I think that's where the hospital hospitality conversation came out.

01:14:06 Speaker 1

Yes. Uh-huh. Right.

01:14:09 Speaker 2

And so it's OK. I'm beginning to see it. And then?

01:14:14 Speaker 4

When they break.

01:14:14 Speaker 1

It down for a little bit more.

01:14:15 Speaker 2

Yeah, once he he started to believe the force was flowing through him.

01:14:22 Speaker 1

Especially when I think the chef comes in right and tells like who's coming in that day and he mentions how like this one old couple had saved all their money to eat there.

01:14:29 Speaker 2

I think some teachers or something.

01:14:29 Speaker 1

So don't.

01:14:31 Speaker 1

Some tea.

01:14:31 Speaker 1

And so don't give them don't bill them.

01:14:34 Speaker 2

We're going.

01:14:34 Speaker 2

We're gonna give them everything.

01:14:36 Speaker 2

They're gonna take a tour of the kitchen, right?

01:14:38 Speaker 2

We're comping them.

01:14:39 Speaker 2

Do not drop a bill on these people and it's like, that's incredible.

01:14:44 Speaker 1

Right.

01:14:45 Speaker 1

And they talk about, yeah, the service.

01:14:46 Speaker 1

Yeah, right.

01:14:47 Speaker 1

The people who come in and everybody's going there sometimes you just to escape from their life or whatever and give that for an hour or two hours.

01:14:56 Speaker 1

The experience.

01:14:58 Speaker 1

And that's all the part whole part of getting into that world.

01:15:02 Speaker 1

That was another cameo.

01:15:03 Speaker 1

If you remember the the, the, the woman that he talks to who's the sort of the expediter I guess.

01:15:09 Speaker 2

Ohh Sarah Ramos.

01:15:10 Speaker 1

Yeah, uh-huh.

01:15:11 Speaker 1

From a parenthood fame and also winning time.

01:15:16 Speaker 1

Plays the wife of Kareem.

01:15:18 Speaker 1

No, no.

01:15:20 Speaker 1

West. Jerry West? Uh-huh.

01:15:22 Speaker 1

But yeah, another cameo from Ramos.

01:15:26 Speaker 1

I've seen her in a minute besides winning time but a minute.

01:15:27 Speaker 2

Yeah, it's been.

01:15:28 Speaker 2

It's been a while.

01:15:30 Speaker 2

And then, yeah, Richie.

01:15:32 Speaker 1

Then he dives like nose in, right.

01:15:34 Speaker 1

Doesn't want.

01:15:34 Speaker 2

To leave, he becomes.

01:15:37 Speaker 2

Does he work Expo?

01:15:38 Speaker 1

He does one he doesn't work Expo.

01:15:40 Speaker 1

He gets to take one table.

01:15:43 Speaker 1

When the the the over here right that the family had missed out on deep dish on their trip to Chicago.

01:15:48 Speaker 2

Yeah, right.

01:15:49 Speaker 1

So he runs out.

01:15:50 Speaker 1

I I forgot the name of the place, but it's.

01:15:51 Speaker 1

I think it's a famous.

01:15:52 Speaker 1

Deep, deep dish Chicago Joint Park, Parkwood Parkway Park, quads.

01:15:55 Speaker 1

That far parkar parkour ******** parkour.

01:16:01 Speaker 2

Or what's parquet courts? What's?

01:16:05 Speaker 2

The King and Shrek.

01:16:08 Speaker 1

Park quad.

01:16:09 Speaker 1

Is that what it is?

01:16:11 Speaker 2

Apologies to Chicagoland residents.

01:16:13 Speaker 3

I'll apologize and.

01:16:14 Speaker 1

No pizza casserole.

01:16:18 Speaker 2

I've heard other.

01:16:18 Speaker 2

Called deep.

01:16:19 Speaker 3

That's what it is.

01:16:21 Speaker 2

But the views.

01:16:24 Speaker 1

But they right, he brings it back.

01:16:26 Speaker 1

Yeah, they fancy it up.

01:16:27 Speaker 1

Right.

01:16:27 Speaker 1

And the family just loves it.

01:16:29 Speaker 2

And he gets to bring it out to them.

01:16:30 Speaker 1

He gets a break.

01:16:31 Speaker 1

Yeah, he does.

01:16:31 Speaker 1

His behind the back.

01:16:32 Speaker 2

Right. Right, right. Yeah. Yeah.

01:16:32 Speaker 1

Maneuvering uses his skills of peopling.

01:16:37 Speaker 2

And he got to be a.

01:16:39 Speaker 2

Server at a fine dining.

01:16:42 Speaker 2

Restaurant but still get to be Richie.

01:16:44 Speaker 2

He did.

01:16:44 Speaker 2

It in a Richie.

01:16:45 Speaker 1

In a Richy right?

01:16:45 Speaker 2

Way like that old fashioned.

01:16:47 Speaker 2

Not gonna drink itself, can I?

01:16:48 Speaker 2

Get you a Bacardi?

01:16:49 Speaker 2

And coke, right?

01:16:50 Speaker 1

Right. He got to.

01:16:53 Speaker 2

Show who he.

01:16:54 Speaker 2

Was and have that be accepted and have?

01:16:57 Speaker 2

People at the end of his week there love him and say right, we're really gonna miss you.

01:17:02 Speaker 2

You're the best.

01:17:04 Speaker 2

Polisher we've had.

01:17:06 Speaker 2

I don't even know if what he was.

01:17:07 Speaker 2

Doing is considered stars.

01:17:08 Speaker 1

I didn't think so because usually.

01:17:10 Speaker 2

That's like cookies. Yeah, right.

01:17:10 Speaker 1

Again, yeah, you're at least helping to cook or prep or something.

01:17:16 Speaker 2

But it it really.

01:17:18 Speaker 2

I think helped him understand that there is a place for him at the restaurant.

01:17:23 Speaker 2

He is a people person and that he doesn't have to become.

01:17:24 Speaker 4

Right.

01:17:27 Speaker 2

Something other than who?

01:17:28 Speaker 2

He is right.

01:17:29 Speaker 2

He can be who he is and have purpose.

01:17:33 Speaker 1

Yes, and that is one is the one that getting close to the end has the speech with chef Terry another cameo.

01:17:41 Speaker 2

Yeah, all of a.

01:17:41 Speaker 2

Sudden he, like the last day he was walking through.

01:17:44 Speaker 2

Restaurant goes into.

01:17:45 Speaker 2

The kitchen goes into the kitchen and then?

01:17:47 Speaker 2

There's a chef.

01:17:48 Speaker 2

There and ohh yeah, it happens to be.

01:17:50 Speaker 2

Olivia Coleman, right.

01:17:51 Speaker 2

It's like Jesus Christ.

01:17:52 Speaker 1

Right.

01:17:53 Speaker 1

And it's the the chef, right?

01:17:54 Speaker 2

Yeah, the.

01:17:55 Speaker 1

The owner, Sasha.

01:17:57 Speaker 1

Executive restaurant.

01:17:59 Speaker 1

Yeah, like head honcho.

01:18:01 Speaker 1

And she's very humbly peeling the mushrooms for the experience of the customer.

01:18:07 Speaker 1

And that's where they talk about their growing up in this and and how rich he thought he got sent there.

01:18:12 Speaker 1

Cuz Carmen didn't want him or whatever.

01:18:14 Speaker 1

She's like, no.

01:18:15 Speaker 1

He said you're good with people.

01:18:16 Speaker 1

Uh huh?

01:18:17 Speaker 1

So he starts right, solidifying his sense of purpose, right.

01:18:20 Speaker 2

And and I think it was.

01:18:21 Speaker 1

Starts really solidifying.

01:18:23 Speaker 2

Thank you.

01:18:25 Speaker 2

Thank you for doing this favor.

01:18:27 Speaker 2

It's like I don't.

01:18:28 Speaker 2

I don't do.

01:18:28 Speaker 1

Favors, right? That's right, yeah.

01:18:31 Speaker 2

I think as she was sometime during the conversation.

01:18:34 Speaker 2

Ohh Carmi believes in you?

01:18:37 Speaker 2

And like, how do you know that?

01:18:38 Speaker 2

He told.

01:18:39 Speaker 1

Me, right? Yeah.

01:18:42 Speaker 1

And that's where we also learned that's where the every second counts came from.

01:18:47 Speaker 1

And apparently, I think she when she was telling her story, it ends with her not finishing it.

01:18:50 Speaker 1

But I think.

01:18:51 Speaker 1

It had to do with her father.

01:18:52 Speaker 1

That's the last thing he said always told me.

01:18:53 Speaker 2

Always told this this, I think it was.

01:18:55 Speaker 1

And then she walks off and.

01:18:56 Speaker 1

He's like, what did she say?

01:18:57 Speaker 1

What did she say?

01:18:59 Speaker 2

Either what he said or how.

01:19:00 Speaker 2

He said it.

01:19:01 Speaker 2

And she's gone.

01:19:03 Speaker 2

Wait and he?

01:19:04 Speaker 1

Falls around right with the implication that what he always says was every second counts, and he is that when he then sees the picture.

01:19:12 Speaker 1

Of Carmi and Luke.

01:19:12 Speaker 2

I think it might have been in the hallway as he was approaching the kitchen, or maybe it was after when he was leaving it, when he's chasing after chef Terry.

01:19:18

The OK.

01:19:23

OK.

01:19:24 Speaker 2

Olivia Coleman. Wonderful as always.

01:19:25 Speaker 1

Wonderful as always, and I think this is the one too, right.

01:19:27 Speaker 1

This where the one where the the, the great scene of him driving crazily.

01:19:31 Speaker 1

Through Chicago, Taylor, he's like.

01:19:34 Speaker 2

With going through the alleys at 70 running red just like sparks coming off the muscle.

01:19:36 Speaker 3

Right.

01:19:42 Speaker 1

Blasting Taylor Swift because I get the reference back to.

01:19:45 Speaker 1

His daughter trying to get.

01:19:47 Speaker 2

Tickets for her and then ultimately I think that's a way.

01:19:49 Speaker 2

To win back.

01:19:51 Speaker 1

I think yes, because he gets three officer row uh tries to invite TIFF and then devastatingly gets told that she is engaged to some other guy.

01:20:02 Speaker 2

And then what?

01:20:03 Speaker 2

He's dropping his daughter off like, honey, it's.

01:20:06 Speaker 1

It's not that I don't like him.

01:20:07 Speaker 1

So I just need a break.

01:20:10 Speaker 2

I think a lot of dads felt seen.

01:20:12 Speaker 1

Probably, but then he.

01:20:15 Speaker 1

Sings it blango like a wild man with abandoned.

01:20:23 Speaker 2

OK, forks finish that.

01:20:24 Speaker 1

That was forks, yeah.

01:20:25 Speaker 2

Then what do we have?

01:20:26 Speaker 1

We have two more, three more, three more Bolognese.

01:20:29 Speaker 1

So now we're back at the restaurant.

01:20:32 Speaker 1

Marcus has returned.

01:20:34 Speaker 1

This is the one where they're they're having the pressure of passing, trying to pass the fire suppression test.

01:20:38 Speaker 1

Yes, EBA returns cause IBRA.

01:20:41 Speaker 1

Sorry, Ibra has not been going to culinary school.

01:20:45 Speaker 1

Yeah, right.

01:20:46 Speaker 1

As Tina later, it tells him in this episode.

01:20:49 Speaker 1

But Tina continues to go in one of the episodes, I think we passed it, but yeah, she comes to the the kitchen cause she forgot her knife or something.

01:20:56 Speaker 1

And then, Carmie says, take the one over there.

01:20:59 Speaker 1

She's like, that's your knife.

01:21:00 Speaker 1

He's like, that's your knife.

01:21:01 Speaker 1

Now gets compliments from the chef teachers at the school.

01:21:01 Speaker 1

Right.

01:21:06 Speaker 1

But yeah, she's at the window Ebra comes around.

01:21:09 Speaker 1

She kind of gives them a a tongue lashing, but then he's invited back into the fold.

01:21:15 Speaker 2

And every time Tina gets a compliment, her smile so heartwarming.

01:21:19 Speaker 1

Yes, it is best beaming.

01:21:19 Speaker 2

It's like the moment of her day.

01:21:22 Speaker 1

Yeah, she appreciates them.

01:21:26 Speaker 1

Oh yeah, Richie and continued his arc apologizes to Nat.

01:21:29 Speaker 1

She even asks one of the.

01:21:31 Speaker 2

That guy.

01:21:31 Speaker 1

Other guys to be a witness.

01:21:34 Speaker 1

Yes, continuing tension with Sydney and the relationship between Claire and Carmi, and this is the one where we were mentioning that fact.

01:21:45 Speaker 1

Remembers the whole issue with.

01:21:48 Speaker 2

Jewish lightning.

01:21:49 Speaker 1

Jewish Lightning and the gas and why it was broken.

01:21:52 Speaker 1

So he fixes it just in time.

01:21:55 Speaker 1

For the inspector to come and pass, this is the one you're mentioning, though with the funny conversation where fact is told to.

01:22:00 Speaker 2

Ohh yeah, so he's the inspector of some sort is at the restaurant.

01:22:05 Speaker 2

He can't.

01:22:08 Speaker 2

Do the inspection yet?

01:22:09 Speaker 2

Because I still need to fix somethings so fact has to stall, so he just starts talking to them about music and it takes place in the background.

01:22:17 Speaker 2

I forget even what's in the foreground of this, so taken with this conversation and asking, I think fact asks him what kind of music.

01:22:25 Speaker 2

He likes and he's a guy.

01:22:28 Speaker 2

Early 40s, kind of, it doesn't seem.

01:22:31 Speaker 2

Particularly cool.

01:22:32 Speaker 2

Looking no.

01:22:33 Speaker 2

And he's like, oh, I like Chingy.

01:22:35 Speaker 4

Right. He's like rapper.

01:22:39 Speaker 1

But this is after like what like like seemingly a few minutes in the episode, but like probably a long conversation where fact is telling him his love of like indie rock or some sort of yeah.

01:22:49 Speaker 2

Rock honk or something, right?

01:22:51 Speaker 3

Like even like that, like she.

01:22:57 Speaker 4

The rapper Ohh man Terrible Maddie, but it's all.

01:23:05 Speaker 1

For good, because they eventually passed the.

01:23:07 Speaker 2

Test. Yeah, and it ended.

01:23:09 Speaker 2

So that's the end.

01:23:09 Speaker 1

Of eight, right?

01:23:10 Speaker 1

It also ends with, I think, Claire at one point at the party, maybe mentions how no one ever made her dinner.

01:23:15 Speaker 1

So it ends with Carmi cooking dinner for Claire.

01:23:18 Speaker 1

Yes, because now his.

01:23:21 Speaker 1

Act of service and showing his feelings, his thawing feelings right cause at first he was a little hesitant to engage in this relationship.

01:23:29 Speaker 1

Yeah, although there seems to be something there.

01:23:31 Speaker 1

Yeah, but now he's letting the walls come down.

01:23:35 Speaker 2

Like tumbling dance, tumbling dice.

01:23:39 Speaker 2

Maybe this is a good time to.

01:23:40 Speaker 2

Talk about Claire, OK?

01:23:43 Speaker 1

I you hate her, I.

01:23:45 Speaker 3

And her eyebrows plucked.

01:23:45 Speaker 2

Oh my God.

01:23:46 Speaker 2

I want her to tweeze him, so I I.

01:23:48 Speaker 2

Need like 2003 Kate Moss and I'm barely there like.

01:23:52 Speaker 1

Yeah. When 1998, Pam.

01:23:54 Speaker 2

Anderson. Yeah, just.

01:23:56 Speaker 2

A single.

01:23:57 Speaker 2

Hairs going across above her eyes.

01:24:01 Speaker 2

I appreciate that there is a storyline for Carmie that is outside of the restaurant that he's becoming more vulnerable, that he's doing something outside of his comfort zone and.

01:24:13 Speaker 2

Trying to be.

01:24:18 Speaker 2

A A different type of person than who?

01:24:20 Speaker 2

He's human.

01:24:21 Speaker 2

Yeah, a human.

01:24:22 Speaker 1

A humanization baratto.

01:24:26 Speaker 1

Brasato bruzzano Beretta.

01:24:30 Speaker 2

But then.

01:24:33 Speaker 2

I feel like there's a little bit of, like manic Pixie Dream Girl where this.

01:24:39 Speaker 2

Very sweet. Umm.

01:24:42 Speaker 2

Seemingly well adjusted woman right is very patient and very understanding.

01:24:53 Speaker 2

A very difficult person and is just has unconditional love and understanding for him, which is great.

01:25:05 Speaker 2

But it feels.

01:25:07 Speaker 2

It doesn't feel like exactly that she's there to.

01:25:08 Speaker 2

Fix him.

01:25:10 Speaker 2

No, but he can.

01:25:16 Speaker 2

She I guess she felt a little.

01:25:19 Speaker 2

Like flat and justice there as a narrative device and it's like, why would someone?

01:25:29 Speaker 2

Be that patient.

01:25:32 Speaker 2

And be so attracted to so much chaos.

01:25:36 Speaker 1

Well, I yeah, I see what you're saying.

01:25:38 Speaker 1

I think part of it though has to.

01:25:40 Speaker 1

Do with.

01:25:40 Speaker 1

The fact that they knew each other.

01:25:44 Speaker 1

Since since young and there were the seeds that he liked her too, right?

01:25:45 Speaker 2

High school, yeah.

01:25:48 Speaker 1

We, which we learned fishes.

01:25:49 Speaker 1

When Richie is telling Richie and Mike are telling him to go ask her out cause she's.

01:25:53 Speaker 1

Taking off her glasses.

01:25:55 Speaker 2

She's hot now and they talked to her and said, hey, like it's like, why would?

01:25:57 Speaker 1

Right, right, right.

01:25:58 Speaker 2

You do that.

01:25:59 Speaker 2

I didn't ask you to do.

01:25:59 Speaker 1

That right, so you could tell that he definitely likes her.

01:26:02 Speaker 1

She obviously likes her.

01:26:04 Speaker 1

Tinted in that officious episode, right.

01:26:06 Speaker 1

Definitely confirmed.

01:26:07 Speaker 1

When they meet up again, right?

01:26:08 Speaker 1

But I can see that she would be patient given that.

01:26:11 Speaker 1

She's a doctor.

01:26:13 Speaker 1

You know, I think that we have some level of patience as a doctor.

01:26:17 Speaker 1

And given the history of him knowing her, knowing him, her probably knowing his crazy family, and sort of maybe seeing through his.

01:26:27 Speaker 1

Aloof, tough veneer.

01:26:33 Speaker 1

But I think when they show them together.

01:26:36 Speaker 1

They definitely have a chemistry.

01:26:38 Speaker 2

You know, sure they.

01:26:39 Speaker 2

Have a chemistry, but I just.

01:26:41 Speaker 2

I don't know.

01:26:42 Speaker 1

But it was so early.

01:26:43 Speaker 1

Days too.

01:26:43 Speaker 1

You know what I mean?

01:26:44 Speaker 1

Like she was still working.

01:26:45 Speaker 1

He was working.

01:26:47 Speaker 2

So the time they had together was mostly fun.

01:26:50 Speaker 2

Yeah, but she also knows how crazy the family is.

01:26:54 Speaker 1

Right.

01:26:54 Speaker 1

But I think she also sees that he was different from that given sort of like his path that he took, right.

01:26:59 Speaker 1

He went to the restaurant world and became top notch or top, top dog.

01:27:03 Speaker 1

So I think she sees that he's different from what he grew up or at.

01:27:08 Speaker 1

Least mostly.

01:27:10 Speaker 1

Yeah, tries to.

01:27:11 Speaker 1

Be so I can.

01:27:13 Speaker 1

I believe the the relationship I see it.

01:27:19 Speaker 1

But I'd imagine there would be more.

01:27:22 Speaker 1

In Part 3.

01:27:24 Speaker 2

Yeah, it seemed like she would.

01:27:26 Speaker 2

She would return despite what happens later in the season.

01:27:30 Speaker 2

Right, which.

01:27:31 Speaker 1

Which will get there.

01:27:31 Speaker 1

In just.

01:27:32 Speaker 1

3 minute next episode omelette omelette.

01:27:37 Speaker 1

They're setting up for the soft opening.

01:27:39 Speaker 2

They hired staff.

01:27:40 Speaker 2

They've gone through it.

01:27:41 Speaker 2

Process which?

01:27:42 Speaker 1

Yes, with that.

01:27:42 Speaker 1

Crazy Chef, which we later learned was on.

01:27:45 Speaker 3

Crack, but man could.

01:27:47 Speaker 3

You cook carrots.

01:27:50 Speaker 1

But yeah, so high pressure, they're going to get ready to open Sidney's feeling.

01:27:54 Speaker 1

The pressure from her dad, Robert Townsend.

01:27:57 Speaker 1

Yeah, I haven't seen that guy since, like, Meteor.

01:28:00 Speaker 1

Man, right, I think.

01:28:02 Speaker 2

He's done production run a producer.

01:28:04 Speaker 3

Oh, OK.

01:28:05 Speaker 2

Capacity for other things, but yeah, he he would have followed him that correctly closely.

01:28:10 Speaker 1

But he was in that show.

01:28:12 Speaker 1

Like a family sitcom, but I can't remember it.

01:28:14 Speaker 1

Was called the townsends.

01:28:17 Speaker 2

That's what I know him.

01:28:20 Speaker 2

From, but he was already famous before that.

01:28:23 Speaker 1

There's still things that are not completely fixed.

01:28:24 Speaker 1

You can start seeing carmines, like lack of focus in the happenings and going on to the restaurant, right.

01:28:30 Speaker 1

He hasn't.

01:28:30 Speaker 1

Called like the.

01:28:32 Speaker 1

The the refrigerator.

01:28:34 Speaker 1

Man cause the handle keeps getting stuck.

01:28:36 Speaker 2

He wants the control but does not follow through on the things that he takes ownership of.

01:28:41 Speaker 1

Right, yes.

01:28:42 Speaker 2

He needs to have final sign off on everything.

01:28:45 Speaker 2

Yeah, but doesn't.

01:28:47 Speaker 1

Is not there for the signing, right?

01:28:50 Speaker 1

We start seeing there even already early problems.

01:28:53 Speaker 1

Maybe because they see that they're booking, they're booked for two weeks, but then they start kind.

01:28:57 Speaker 1

Of tapering off.

01:28:59 Speaker 2

Yeah, the reservations are not where?

01:29:01 Speaker 1

Where they should be or need to be to.

01:29:03 Speaker 1

Pay off, Cicero.

01:29:05 Speaker 2

The parent hood.

01:29:07 Speaker 1

That's what it was, the parenthood.

01:29:09 Speaker 2

95 to.

01:29:09 Speaker 1

99 decent decent run.

01:29:10

OK.

01:29:14 Speaker 1

Cicero comes around, gives Carma the official license.

01:29:17 Speaker 1

Carmen does apologize to Sydney, said he's going to get his focus back, gives her that fancy chef coat.

01:29:24 Speaker 1

Tom Brown was it.

01:29:25 Speaker 2

Oh, really?

01:29:26 Speaker 2

I didn't see the.

01:29:27 Speaker 2

Label. Yeah.

01:29:28 Speaker 2

I didn't know he.

01:29:28 Speaker 2

Made apparently.

01:29:31 Speaker 2

I thought he just did skirts for men.

01:29:33 Speaker 1

Fairly awesome, does OK.

01:29:35 Speaker 1

Chefs coats.

01:29:36 Speaker 2

And got to.

01:29:36 Speaker 1

That's gotta be expensive.

01:29:37 Speaker 1

Like bespoke chef.

01:29:39 Speaker 2

How did he get measurements?

01:29:42 Speaker 1

Maybe from one of?

01:29:43 Speaker 1

Her old chef jackets as she left lying.

01:29:45 Speaker 2

Around maybe it's like, can you just?

01:29:48 Speaker 1

She looks about the size.

01:29:51 Speaker 2

And also in the conversation with between charm and.

01:29:55 Speaker 2

Uncle Jimmy.

01:29:55 Speaker 2

He he.

01:29:58 Speaker 2

Carm tells Jimmy that he's been seeing somebody.

01:30:01 Speaker 2

And this is where Jimmy tells them this restaurant has to be your life.

01:30:07 Speaker 1

That's right.

01:30:07 Speaker 2

You cannot have anything else in your way, right?

01:30:10 Speaker 2

Do not make the unforced.

01:30:12 Speaker 1

Ohh this is when he tells him the story of the big error, right the the Cubs.

01:30:12 Speaker 2

Yeah, yeah, this is the World Series.

01:30:19 Speaker 1

Where the guy got blamed, but it was everything else around it.

01:30:21 Speaker 2

Right.

01:30:22 Speaker 2

And there's this other guy who actually.

01:30:24 Speaker 2

****** everything up and it's like, you know, I've seen this.

01:30:25

Right.

01:30:27 Speaker 2

Go for a little.

01:30:28 Speaker 2

Bit and it's like you know.

01:30:32 Speaker 2

I love you.

01:30:32 Speaker 2

I'm so happy.

01:30:35 Speaker 2

But I say this with all ******* respect or.

01:30:39 Speaker 2

Whatever, but uh. Oh, right.

01:30:42 Speaker 2

And that's how the conversation ends.

01:30:45 Speaker 2

OK.

01:30:46 Speaker 1

Bad stuff is happening.

01:30:47 Speaker 2

2000 an important note.

01:30:49 Speaker 1

It was, yeah, definitely set up.

01:30:51 Speaker 1

Set up for the spike.

01:30:52 Speaker 1

That's to.

01:30:53 Speaker 1

Come like.

01:30:57 Speaker 1

Right in the face.

01:31:00 Speaker 1

Alright, this is also when Richie comes back.

01:31:02 Speaker 1

Is this the one right?

01:31:03 Speaker 1

He comes back.

01:31:04 Speaker 1

I'll suit it up.

01:31:06 Speaker 2

Talks about.

01:31:07 Speaker 2

He's Van Halen.

01:31:07 Speaker 1

You go now.

01:31:09 Speaker 3

He says like three times.

01:31:11 Speaker 2

The suit? I'm a.

01:31:12 Speaker 2

Suit guy now.

01:31:14 Speaker 1

Are you?

01:31:16 Speaker 1

And it literally ends with the thing they're about to open the door.

01:31:19 Speaker 1

For the opening cut.

01:31:21 Speaker 1

Then to final episode, episode 10, The Bear.

01:31:24 Speaker 1

Yeah, which starts with the.

01:31:25 Speaker 2

Opening and.

01:31:27 Speaker 2

Sidney gets to open the restaurant.

01:31:30 Speaker 2

They call her in from the kitchen, right.

01:31:31 Speaker 2

She's expediter and she.

01:31:35 Speaker 2

Says let it rip.

01:31:37 Speaker 2

Yes, which is Mickey's phrase.

01:31:39 Speaker 1

Right.

01:31:39 Speaker 1

Oh, that's right.

01:31:40 Speaker 1

And Richie asked if he can put it on the table, right, that.

01:31:42 Speaker 1

Frame little note, yeah.

01:31:44 Speaker 2

That was left.

01:31:46 Speaker 2

And she's like it's, it's yours now.

01:31:48 Speaker 2

Yeah, it's ours.

01:31:48 Speaker 4

Right.

01:31:49 Speaker 2

Something like that.

01:31:51 Speaker 2

She's in the family, yes.

01:31:55 Speaker 1

Then very quickly stuff kind of starts going awry.

01:31:56

Better for work.

01:32:00 Speaker 1

That one chef goes missing.

01:32:02 Speaker 2

When does the conversation with Carmen Sydney happen?

01:32:05 Speaker 2

Under the table.

01:32:06 Speaker 2

When they're tightening.

01:32:08 Speaker 1

Oh, that is, uh, nine.

01:32:12 Speaker 1

That was 9.

01:32:14 Speaker 1

Which I never understood.

01:32:15 Speaker 1

What the hell they.

01:32:15 Speaker 2

Were doing.

01:32:16 Speaker 2

I don't know what was uneven.

01:32:17 Speaker 2

I don't know how holding.

01:32:18 Speaker 2

Up one side.

01:32:18

That's what I was.

01:32:19 Speaker 1

With me, it's wondering why does holding that gonna.

01:32:21 Speaker 2

At first I thought it was like.

01:32:21 Speaker 1

Help tighten.

01:32:24 Speaker 2

Hook to hang.

01:32:24 Speaker 1

The person.

01:32:24 Speaker 2

Purse on.

01:32:25 Speaker 1

So I thought at first, but.

01:32:26 Speaker 1

Then it wasn't right.

01:32:27 Speaker 2

I don't know what they were doing.

01:32:28 Speaker 1

Don't either.

01:32:28 Speaker 2

I really do. You're tightening.

01:32:29 Speaker 2

Listening something but.

01:32:30 Speaker 1

But he was.

01:32:31 Speaker 1

I've never had and has someone to hold the table.

01:32:34 Speaker 1

Up from underneath.

01:32:35 Speaker 1

Right, while I screwed.

01:32:37 Speaker 1

Something to even it out.

01:32:40 Speaker 1

I don't know what they were doing.

01:32:42 Speaker 2

But Sidney says.

01:32:44 Speaker 2

I'm afraid I'm scared.

01:32:45 Speaker 2

What if I fail?

01:32:46 Speaker 2

If I can't do it.

01:32:48 Speaker 2

And Carm says, I won't let that happen.

01:32:50 Speaker 2

Right.

01:32:51 Speaker 2

I am I.

01:32:51 Speaker 2

Will be there for you.

01:32:52 Speaker 1

I am the bear.

01:32:57 Speaker 1

And this is not hibernation period.

01:33:00 Speaker 1

But I guess.

01:33:01 Speaker 1

The first thing they're going OK ISH, but they're quickly in the weeds, as they say, in the parlance of the kitchen, you have Richie and FAQ being the front of house schmoozers taking some of the tips of the other restaurant, right, listening for customers and passing notes.

01:33:20 Speaker 2

Making sure front and back of house are communicating.

01:33:22 Speaker 1

Right. Yeah. There's special table with Cicero. You had Robert Townsend. You had Claire's table with her friend.

01:33:32 Speaker 2

Claire. Yes, and sugar and.

01:33:35 Speaker 1

Oh, that's right.

01:33:36 Speaker 1

Her husband and with expectation of the mom to come of Jamie Lee Curtis, who does.

01:33:42 Speaker 1

Come sort of.

01:33:44 Speaker 1

Yeah, she's outside.

01:33:45 Speaker 1

He sees her.

01:33:46 Speaker 2

I'll run in.

01:33:47 Speaker 1

I can remember his name.

01:33:48 Speaker 1

That dude, Paul Paul.

01:33:50 Speaker 1

They have the talk.

01:33:52 Speaker 1

The very sad talk.

01:33:53 Speaker 2

And he's just fraught.

01:33:54 Speaker 2

He's like, I don't.

01:33:55 Speaker 1

Know what to do.

01:33:55 Speaker 1

He really doesn't.

01:33:56 Speaker 1

Yeah, he's put in a bad situation cause he wants her to go for his wife.

01:33:56 Speaker 2

You just.

01:33:58 Speaker 3

Right.

01:34:01 Speaker 1

Then he feels bad for her cause she doesn't wanna go.

01:34:03 Speaker 1

In cause of there.

01:34:06 Speaker 1

Her understanding of the relationship and just want to ruin it.

01:34:07 Speaker 2

Yeah, right, do.

01:34:08 Speaker 2

You spills the beans that Nats.

01:34:11 Speaker 1

Spills that that that is pregnant.

01:34:14 Speaker 1

But then it also does play into like a seemingly her thing, right?

01:34:16 Speaker 1

She just tells him you need to tell me it's OK for me to go like she needs some an excuse.

01:34:22 Speaker 1

Almost maybe like a cover story of later on it comes up like, oh, he didn't think was that important.

01:34:27 Speaker 1

He said I could go.

01:34:27 Speaker 2

Oh, I think it was just for her own.

01:34:30 Speaker 1

Emotional I think it was part of.

01:34:32 Speaker 3

That for sure.

01:34:33 Speaker 2

I don't know if there's.

01:34:34 Speaker 2

A cover story.

01:34:34 Speaker 1

But given not a cover story, but it almost felt also like she need right for her own emotional.

01:34:40 Speaker 1

But should that ever come up in the future?

01:34:43 Speaker 1

Given her narcissistic tendencies, I think she would pull that card.

01:34:47 Speaker 1

That's what, I guess that's what I mean.

01:34:48 Speaker 1

By coverage or?

01:34:49 Speaker 1

Yeah, so he's crying.

01:34:50 Speaker 2

So she's.

01:34:51 Speaker 2

Right, yeah.

01:34:52 Speaker 1

He goes back.

01:34:53 Speaker 1

Sugars like why are you crying?

01:34:55 Speaker 1

He can't tell her what happened.

01:34:57 Speaker 1

Tell her, but he tells her.

01:34:58 Speaker 1

To give her her mom a pass.

01:35:00 Speaker 1

This one time.

01:35:02 Speaker 1

Should still continue to go bad in the.

01:35:04 Speaker 1

Kitchen. They're out.

01:35:04 Speaker 3

Of forks, they're.

01:35:06 Speaker 2

Behind on plates, things are coming out cold.

01:35:07 Speaker 1

Way behind.

01:35:09 Speaker 2

Have to refire.

01:35:10 Speaker 1

It yeah, carmy is freaking out.

01:35:13 Speaker 1

He ends up getting trapped in the refrigerator.

01:35:17 Speaker 1

The walk in.

01:35:17 Speaker 2

Which is something that he was.

01:35:19 Speaker 2

Supposed to yes.

01:35:20 Speaker 1

Get fixed.

01:35:20 Speaker 2

He was supposed to call a guy to get it fixed, cause it's been throughout the season something that's been given them issues.

01:35:21 Speaker 1

The handle.

01:35:22 Speaker 1

Uh, huh?

01:35:25

Right.

01:35:26 Speaker 1

He doesn't do it.

01:35:27 Speaker 1

They try to get him out.

01:35:28 Speaker 1

They realize they just gotta let it go cause.

01:35:30 Speaker 1

They're gonna fail if they don't.

01:35:31 Speaker 2

Gotta go through service, yeah.

01:35:32 Speaker 1

Richie comes in.

01:35:33 Speaker 1

That's what's going on.

01:35:34 Speaker 1

He says he's gonna take over expediting.

01:35:38 Speaker 1

Tell them we really have.

01:35:39 Speaker 1

We have 5 minutes to get out of this.

01:35:40 Speaker 1

Or we're screwed, right?

01:35:42 Speaker 2

And then she gets on the lines.

01:35:44 Speaker 1

Yeah, she gets on the line to to chef because the.

01:35:46 Speaker 1

Other guy's.

01:35:48 Speaker 1

And he just goes right.

01:35:49 Speaker 1

She tells him what she like.

01:35:50 Speaker 1

You're drive.

01:35:52 Speaker 1

And then he just goes.

01:35:53 Speaker 2

At it, he flips the table.

01:35:54 Speaker 2

Around to face them, the lion.

01:35:57 Speaker 2

Hmm and.

01:35:59 Speaker 1

He he does.

01:36:00 Speaker 2

It hands right.

01:36:02 Speaker 1

Looking for?

01:36:02 Speaker 1

Yeah, whatever.

01:36:04 Speaker 1

Yeah, completely day.

01:36:05 Speaker 3

All the.

01:36:05 Speaker 1

Four all.

01:36:06 Speaker 1

Day completely takes over and does the amazing job.

01:36:10 Speaker 1

And you see, now you see the full complete art.

01:36:14 Speaker 1

Power of Richie.

01:36:17 Speaker 1

He goes from whatever print something to he, man.

01:36:21 Speaker 1

The power of Grayskull.

01:36:24 Speaker 2

Frenetic camera work always flashing to the.

01:36:27 Speaker 2

It reminded me.

01:36:30 Speaker 2

Of also the fishes, and then, fishes reminded me.

01:36:34 Speaker 1

Especially with the machine, right?

01:36:35 Speaker 1

Are we?

01:36:35 Speaker 2

That's going there.

01:36:36 Speaker 1

Good enough.

01:36:36 Speaker 1

The tickets.

01:36:37 Speaker 2

There's there's a pulse.

01:36:37 Speaker 1

They're not the tickets.

01:36:39 Speaker 2

High Noon Gary Cooper, because the whole movie is a lead up.

01:36:44 Speaker 1

To when the guys coming back to town, right?

01:36:46 Speaker 2

At noon and there's there's a clock everywhere.

01:36:48 Speaker 2

They would push in on.

01:36:49 Speaker 1

That's right, yeah.

01:36:49 Speaker 2

It it's just this sense of impending doom, as right countdown clock.

01:36:54 Speaker 1

It's flicking closer and.

01:36:55 Speaker 2

Yeah, it gets closer and closer.

01:36:57 Speaker 1

Very true, yeah.

01:37:00 Speaker 1

They make it through though.

01:37:01 Speaker 2

They do with Carmi in the freezer.

01:37:04 Speaker 1

And yeah, continuing to pound and yell.

01:37:08 Speaker 2

But then there's a scene with Sydney and it seems like.

01:37:15 Speaker 2

The machine wants to print, but there and.

01:37:16 Speaker 1

I don't know.

01:37:17 Speaker 1

I thought it was.

01:37:17 Speaker 1

It was a phantom thing.

01:37:19 Speaker 1

Like she was waiting for more.

01:37:19 Speaker 2

But the last time when she ****** ** the.

01:37:22 Speaker 1

Yeah, I think it was a a reference back to that episode.

01:37:26 Speaker 1

But I think also.

01:37:27 Speaker 2

There wasn't a literal like whole bunch of more tickets that had.

01:37:30 Speaker 2

It seemed like they were truly done with service, yeah.

01:37:32 Speaker 1

Right. They were done. Done.

01:37:33 Speaker 1

Right.

01:37:33 Speaker 2

So just like a little.

01:37:33 Speaker 1

But it also seemed like it was.

01:37:34 Speaker 1

Like a reference to also like.

01:37:37 Speaker 1

I think.

01:37:38 Speaker 1

Because it is so Chef informed, right?

01:37:40 Speaker 1

That is like that.

01:37:42 Speaker 1

You still hear it?

01:37:43 Speaker 1

Even though it's not coming right.

01:37:44 Speaker 1

Because then you see her.

01:37:45 Speaker 1

Then go outside and throw up because, like, the the release of the.

01:37:48 Speaker 1

Stress and anxiety or whatever.

01:37:49 Speaker 2

It's like when Carmen looked out and saw the guy sitting.

01:37:52 Speaker 2

At the table and thought it was his old boss, John McPhail.

01:37:55 Speaker 1

Right.

01:37:56 Speaker 1

Right.

01:37:56 Speaker 1

Right.

01:37:57 Speaker 1

Right.

01:37:57 Speaker 2

Sitting there, I mean.

01:37:58 Speaker 1

But it was some random.

01:38:01 Speaker 4

******* guys in the window.

01:38:05 Speaker 1

But then, yeah, we have her, then sort of.

01:38:08 Speaker 1

Getting what she needs from her father when he says I get it.

01:38:11 Speaker 1

That was the amazing food.

01:38:13 Speaker 2

This is this is the thing.

01:38:14 Speaker 1

This is the thing, right?

01:38:15 Speaker 1

So you get them.

01:38:17 Speaker 2

But it's killing her.

01:38:20 Speaker 2

Maybe that night, that's like is that is this what I'm gonna have?

01:38:21 Speaker 1

At least at night, right?

01:38:22 Speaker 1

To do every night, right?

01:38:24 Speaker 1

Yeah, there were hints of that.

01:38:25 Speaker 1

Yeah, definitely.

01:38:27 Speaker 1

UM.

01:38:28 Speaker 1

And then what else we have?

01:38:29 Speaker 1

Marcus, finding the last chef with a little bit of humor.

01:38:34 Speaker 1

He was doing crack.

01:38:36 Speaker 2

He's like, I think we'll have.

01:38:37 Speaker 2

To fire you, man.

01:38:37 Speaker 3

Right.

01:38:38 Speaker 2

Come on, be.

01:38:38 Speaker 3

Weird right now.

01:38:39 Speaker 3

You'd be cool.

01:38:39 Speaker 3

You'd be very.

01:38:41 Speaker 2

I'm gonna go check and he talks to situations like yeah, you can definitely find her.

01:38:45 Speaker 2

I was like, OK, I'm.

01:38:46 Speaker 3

Gonna go fire him and we forgot about.

01:38:48 Speaker 1

That part, the tension between them two because he.

01:38:51 Speaker 1

Kind of asked her.

01:38:52 Speaker 1

Out and then that she got super weird about it, even though he.

01:38:52 Speaker 2

Ohh, right, right, right.

01:38:54 Speaker 3

Right.

01:38:55 Speaker 1

Didn't do it in a weird or.

01:38:57 Speaker 1

Even close to a weird way, but like they're having tension, that whole last episode.

01:38:58 Speaker 2

Right.

01:39:02 Speaker 1

At one point, he's asking her question.

01:39:04 Speaker 1

She's not answering.

01:39:04 Speaker 1

He's like, yells at her.

01:39:06 Speaker 2

Right, right. Karma comes in.

01:39:08 Speaker 1

So it looks like then they they come down right afterwards.

01:39:13 Speaker 1

And then we have like the.

01:39:14 Speaker 1

Huge, sort of like blow up of sorts with Carmine having his monologue to Tina talking about being stuck in the refrigerator.

01:39:23 Speaker 1

Yeah, he's.

01:39:25 Speaker 1

Messed up everything because he lost focus and this thing with.

01:39:28 Speaker 2

Claire misspelled radicchio, I think.

01:39:31 Speaker 1

Oh yeah, he sees all the little.

01:39:32 Speaker 2

Mistakes or ripping tape like an?

01:39:35 Speaker 2

Right.

01:39:35 Speaker 2

Right, right.

01:39:36 Speaker 2

Yeah, I got.

01:39:37 Speaker 1

I failed you.

01:39:38 Speaker 1

Things are like in the wrong spot or whatever.

01:39:39 Speaker 2

It's on the left hand.

01:39:40 Speaker 1

Instead of the right.

01:39:43 Speaker 1

He see those little mistakes.

01:39:44 Speaker 1

Has his outward monologue.

01:39:46 Speaker 1

Claire had been looking for him.

01:39:47 Speaker 1

Goes back there.

01:39:48 Speaker 2

Here's because fact said, he's frozen like Han Solo in carbonite.

01:39:52 Speaker 1

Ohh that's right.

01:39:53 Speaker 2

Like OK, is it now a good?

01:39:54 Speaker 2

Time to go back.

01:39:55 Speaker 1

That's right, that's.

01:39:56 Speaker 1

Right.

01:39:56 Speaker 3

Ah yeah.

01:39:56 Speaker 1

But by that point, Tina had left because no one was standing around, and he's still talking.

01:40:02 Speaker 1

She hears cries, leaves I.

01:40:03 Speaker 3

OK.

01:40:04 Speaker 2

Right.

01:40:06 Speaker 1

I'm sorry you feel that way or something.

01:40:06 Speaker 2

Just have joy like I.

01:40:09 Speaker 2

Yeah, I've tried it to be happy or tried.

01:40:12 Speaker 2

To do this.

01:40:12 Speaker 2

But it's not.

01:40:12 Speaker 1

Right.

01:40:15 Speaker 1

Yeah, she I think she said that.

01:40:16 Speaker 1

Sorry you.

01:40:16 Speaker 1

Feel that way, then runs off, right?

01:40:20 Speaker 1

Then he listens to the voicemail she had left him earlier, where she tells him ** *** loves him and he's just like shaking Ritchie comes.

01:40:26 Speaker 4

Right.

01:40:31 Speaker 1

He's like, what the **** did you say to that girl?

01:40:33 Speaker 1

Right they have.

01:40:34 Speaker 1

It out like.

01:40:34 Speaker 1

********. Yeah, like ******** ********.

01:40:38 Speaker 2

And at one point, Richie just yells.

01:40:40 Speaker 2

I ******* love you over and over and over.

01:40:40 Speaker 1

Right, right.

01:40:43 Speaker 2

And then he just wishes him to.

01:40:44 Speaker 2

Die in the freezer, right?

01:40:45 Speaker 2

Yeah, because.

01:40:46 Speaker 1

I mean, yeah, Karma doesn't let up.

01:40:47 Speaker 1

Right, he continues.

01:40:49 Speaker 4

With his shift, he.

01:40:50 Speaker 2

You are everything, yeah.

01:40:51 Speaker 1

Does nothing without me.

01:40:53 Speaker 1

Yeah, pretty much.

01:40:53 Speaker 1

And does everything, even though.

01:40:55 Speaker 1

Yeah, Richard tries to salvage it by turning to the love angle just ignored, but destroyed.

01:41:01 Speaker 2

I'm sure that's.

01:41:05 Speaker 2

Difficult, but I feel like Rich is in a.

01:41:06 Speaker 2

Place now where he can.

01:41:08 Speaker 2

Deal with it.

01:41:09 Speaker 2

He's like, I don't need this.

01:41:11 Speaker 2

I don't need you.

01:41:12 Speaker 2

I am confident in who I am.

01:41:13 Speaker 1

That's true.

01:41:14 Speaker 2

I know my place here.

01:41:15 Speaker 2

Right.

01:41:16 Speaker 2

You're the one who's.

01:41:16 Speaker 2

Sucked up like they had.

01:41:17 Speaker 2

A role reversal.

01:41:18 Speaker 1

Definitely a role.

01:41:19 Speaker 2

Reversal. Yeah, yeah.

01:41:22 Speaker 1

Because I guess technically right throughout the two seasons up until that point, kind of karma's been the stable one.

01:41:28 Speaker 1

Like I've kind of everybody as you can, right?

01:41:28 Speaker 2

That's a stabilized, right?

01:41:30 Speaker 2

Yeah, yeah.

01:41:30 Speaker 1

But like kind of of everybody.

01:41:32 Speaker 2

Right.

01:41:32 Speaker 1

And now, yeah, now completely collapsed, right loss.

01:41:33

To see how.

01:41:34 Speaker 2

He had the.

01:41:35 Speaker 2

The force and the drive and.

01:41:37 Speaker 2

Then that's gone. Yeah, yeah.

01:41:41 Speaker 1

Maybe just these?

01:41:45 Speaker 1

Ohh, and it is another sad note.

01:41:48 Speaker 1

Marcus gets his package from Luca.

01:41:51 Speaker 1

Yes, with the every second counts.

01:41:53 Speaker 1

But then we see.

01:41:54 Speaker 1

Hey, he had dropped his phone earlier in the episode, right?

01:41:56 Speaker 1

And he got tons of missed calls from the nurse.

01:41:59 Speaker 2

Right. I assume his mom.

01:42:01 Speaker 1

Died, right?

01:42:02 Speaker 1

That's my guess.

01:42:03 Speaker 1

It's like Jesus can't give Marcus a break.

01:42:05 Speaker 1

Come on.

01:42:07 Speaker 2

That's a tough beat.

01:42:09 Speaker 1

Man, that's horrible.

01:42:11 Speaker 1

And I think that's where then.

01:42:13 Speaker 1

The episode ends.

01:42:18 Speaker 2

I can't remember what the absolute last scene was.

01:42:22 Speaker 1

It I thought it was either the phone.

01:42:25 Speaker 1

Or car me in the freezer like cry shaking or whatever.

01:42:30 Speaker 2

If it were Marcus, it's interesting that they would begin.

01:42:33 Speaker 1

End with Marcus.

01:42:33 Speaker 2

And yeah, like a bookend in that way.

01:42:35 Speaker 1

Right.

01:42:36 Speaker 1

Let them maybe go back and do quick check.

01:42:37 Speaker 1

Yeah, but I I got the I almost got the feeling there was.

01:42:41 Speaker 1

And it with Marcus, OK.

01:42:44 Speaker 2

Yeah, I don't remember the last.

01:42:45 Speaker 1

Shot, but what?

01:42:47 Speaker 1

A roller coaster of a season.

01:42:49 Speaker 1

It was like a bear.

01:42:50 Speaker 2

Market, but you want a bull market?

01:42:54 Speaker 1

Right. But it didn't ended.

01:42:55 Speaker 1

It ended gets got.

01:42:56 Speaker 2

Like down man.

01:42:56 Speaker 1

Cracked the high hopes of opening your restaurant black.

01:43:04 Speaker 2

Monday was the stock market crash.

01:43:06 Speaker 2

There was a name for that.

01:43:08 Speaker 1

I think usually cause was black Monday right?

01:43:09 Speaker 2

Like like one day.

01:43:12 Speaker 1

**** Monday, bloody Monday.

01:43:15 Speaker 2

Well, I'm sure it's getting renewed.

01:43:17 Speaker 2

There's not.

01:43:18 Speaker 1

Oh, it has to be.

01:43:18 Speaker 2

There's not been an announcement I.

01:43:20 Speaker 2

Let's see, probably.

01:43:22 Speaker 2

2025 come back.

01:43:24 Speaker 1

Most likely cause 20. We're not 24.

01:43:30 Speaker 2

I well, I don't know where they are.

01:43:32 Speaker 2

They gonna have to, right.

01:43:34 Speaker 2

And there's a strike right now.

01:43:35 Speaker 2

Ohh, that's.

01:43:35 Speaker 4

Oh, right.

01:43:36 Speaker 2

I don't know if that would affect it.

01:43:37 Speaker 1

Oh, no.

01:43:37 Speaker 2

But then then production then post.

01:43:39 Speaker 1

What about the strike?

01:43:43 Speaker 2

Let's say they they take.

01:43:45 Speaker 1

You're right by 2025.

01:43:47 Speaker 2

Two months, three months. Shoot.

01:43:50 Speaker 2

I have no idea.

01:43:51 Speaker 2

I know they work fast.

01:43:52 Speaker 2

They they do.

01:43:52 Speaker 2

10 hour days.

01:43:55 Speaker 1

Oh man, we may never see them again.

01:43:58 Speaker 2

I'm sure we will.

01:44:00 Speaker 1

I don't know.

01:44:00 Speaker 1

Last strike killed so many good.

01:44:02 Speaker 1

Shows promising shows and now we got streaming wars and budget cuts.

01:44:08 Speaker 1

Jesus Christ.

01:44:09 Speaker 1

I don't know.

01:44:10 Speaker 1

It's horrible.

01:44:10 Speaker 2

I I'm pulling for the bear.

01:44:13 Speaker 1

Ohh for sure.

01:44:15 Speaker 1

But that's a long time.

01:44:16 Speaker 1

But I mean, yeah, with no seemingly no end.

01:44:19 Speaker 1

Insight for the strike.

01:44:21 Speaker 2

Sag might strike, and then it'll have.

01:44:24 Speaker 1

And keep on pushing though.

01:44:25 Speaker 1

Right, the the dual power.

01:44:27 Speaker 1

If that's what I mean, the the directors made a deal, but if all three of them had just banded together and held firm, they probably all could have got.

01:44:35 Speaker 1

A great deal.

01:44:37 Speaker 2

I think SAG was close and then they just could not agree on AI.

01:44:42 Speaker 1

Right, which is a big issue, which is a.

01:44:44 Speaker 2

VGA issues so.

01:44:46 Speaker 2

Fran Drescher is leading the charge.

01:44:49 Speaker 2

She's president of sag.

01:44:49 Speaker 4

Oh, I didn't know.

01:44:50 Speaker 1

That all right.

01:44:50 Speaker 2

Yeah, yeah.

01:44:51 Speaker 1

She, like I will.

01:44:52 Speaker 1

I will break you down with my voice.

01:45:11 Speaker 1

OK, for right.

01:45:15 Speaker 1

He had the iron fist on the SAG.

01:45:17 Speaker 2

I don't know if there's limits.

01:45:19 Speaker 4

I don't think so.

01:45:20 Speaker 2

What the?

01:45:21 Speaker 1

Institute him maybe after him.

01:45:22 Speaker 2

Yeah, he's just quietly retired.

01:45:26 Speaker 2

To decrepitude, I think he's doing.

01:45:29 Speaker 1

Alright, I'm sure he has all.

01:45:30 Speaker 1

That Boy Meets World money.

01:45:32 Speaker 2

Well, I don't.

01:45:33 Speaker 2

I'm not talking about financial means.

01:45:37 Speaker 2

Health wise, I think.

01:45:38 Speaker 2

It's in the early 90s, maybe ohh late 80s Dang.

01:45:42 Speaker 1

That he was that old in Boy Meets World.

01:45:45 Speaker 2

He's good at.

01:45:46 Speaker 1

Playing the old.

01:45:47 Speaker 1

He's another Steve Martin.

01:45:49

Well, that wraps.

01:45:50

01:46:09 Speaker 1

01:46:10 Speaker 1

Is worthy of rewatches and multiple watches.

01:46:14 Speaker 1

Almost each episode is a master class and everything.

01:46:18 Speaker 2

And don't be afraid to take a break and relax your muscles a little bit after the tension, yeah.

01:46:23 Speaker 1

So the.

01:46:23 Speaker 1

Tension. Very true, very true.

01:46:32 Speaker 1

Watch the bear.

01:46:33 Speaker 1

01:46:38

If Congress has anything.

01:46:39 Speaker 2

To do with the WGA strike.

01:46:41

Then you can get involved.

01:46:41 Speaker 3

I think.

01:46:43 Speaker 1

If they got involved in baseball and steroids, they can get involved.

01:46:46 Speaker 1

In this I think.

01:46:47 Speaker 2

They need.

01:46:47 Speaker 2

To talk to the Guild is or the the the.

01:46:53 Speaker 2

Studio conglomerate or like the whatever organization.

01:46:54 Speaker 3

Ohh right. Well.

01:46:56 Speaker 2
