Jul 03, 2024 Episode 11
Ann LeMaster

“Not all is done. Your child may have some issues, but they have a chance in life.”  —Ann LeMaster

A generation ago, childhood obesity was rare, but today millions of kids struggle with excess pounds. The consequences of this weight epidemic are deeply troubling, as obese children are at risk for serious health problems like diabetes, heart disease, asthma, and even some cancers. But it's about more than just physical health— obesity can also negatively impact children's self-esteem and social development. If current trends continue, this may be the first generation of children who have a shorter expected lifespan than their parents due to preventable obesity-related conditions.

In this episode, Ann discusses how childhood obesity impacts a child’s health and wellness into adulthood, the risk factors associated with childhood obesity, how breastfeeding provides a healthy start for infants, why conventional obesity treatment is not enough to manage obesity, and how holistic approach helps address the underlying drivers of obesity.
