"The Itinerant Geographer" was the title of a meticulous newsletter formerly published by the Geography Department at UC Berkeley. It was a labor of love compiled and written by Wallach's academic advisor, the late James J. Parsons.

The Future of Rice Production in Sri Lanka (2005)
I had a 6-month Fulbright to Peradeniya University, a few miles from Kandy, Sri Lanka. One day I was talking for some forgotten reason with the editor of The Sri Lanka Journal of the Humanities. He said he needed something to fill the 2005 issue and asked if I had anything he might use. I gave him this. It appeared under the title "The Paddy Lands of the Kandy District." The editor made no changes except replacing the pronoun you with the pronoun one. "This is a humanities journal," he explained.
