Having recently lost his mum, rather than deal with it the healthy way, what better way for a comedian to deal than to put his pain to tape and lay it out for the world to hear.

As well as that he just sits down and discusses great films and the philosophy of asking vs begging for gigs. Also he mentions the big news of the day, but only briefly as everyone else is doing it too.
