Inside the She Cave: Trailblazers, Innovators, Rule Breakers

The Cultural Evolution of Breasts with "Tits Up" Author Sarah Thornton

Cindy Farkas Glanzrock

Breasts have been viewed differently across cultures, religions, and eras, symbolizing fertility and motherhood, while also being sexualized.

Some societies celebrate breasts as symbols of beauty and power, while others cover them due to cultural or religious beliefs about femininity and morality. Over time, perceptions have evolved with changing views on gender, body image, and sexual freedom, influenced by media and pop culture.

Sarah Thornton is welcomed “Inside the She Cave” with podcast host Cindy Glanzrock where she further explains the portrayal of breasts in art, strip clubs, breast feeding, breast cancer and much more in her latest book “Tits Up.”

Sarah researches, shares stories, highlights experiences of women in the strip club industry and stresses the importance of breast milk donation. The conversation explores the history of breast representation, legal issues surrounding sex work, how the art world embraces breasts and varying cultural and religious perceptions of breasts.
