Hello everyone! I’m Faith, and this is The Vita English Podcast.

Welcome to The Vita English Podcast. You’re listening to Language Stories. Language Stories is a series where listeners learn specific English skills through simple personal stories. In each episode, I'll focus on a different part of language as I tell my story. This podcast is for people who have a basic understanding of English but want to improve their fluency! Today we’re going to learn all about how to use the future perfect as I tell you about my plans for the rest of the year.

It is now October 2022. This year is getting close to its end– we have the rest of October, then November and  then December, and then another new year will be upon us, and it will be 2023.

Thinking back over my years as an English teacher brings back lots of memories! I can't believe that by 2023, it will have been 11 years since I started teaching. As you get older, time seems to go by so quickly! When I was a kid, every year seemed like an eternity– but now that I’m in my thirties– it seems each year passes by more quickly than the last! Can you relate to that feeling? Does time seem to move more quickly as you get older?

Speaking of time moving quickly, another thing I can’t believe is that I’m almost finished this podcast series. By next week, I will have finished the Language Stories series on the 12 major verb tenses. After this episode, there will be a final episode discussing future perfect progressive, and then the verb tense series will be complete. To all my listeners, I hope you’ve found this series helpful so far, and I hope you now have a better understanding of the English verb tenses. Please let me know what grammar topic you’d like me to discuss next!

In the story I just told, I used the future perfect tense two times. Let’s look at the ways I used this verb tense

Number 1:
To talk about an action that will be completed before a specific time in the future

Example:
I can't believe that by January 2023, it will have been 11 years since I started teaching.

*unscripted*

Number 2:
To talk about an action that will be completed before another action in the future

Example:
By next week, I will have finished this Language Stories series on the 12 major verb tenses.

*unscripted*

Alright, now it’s your turn. I want to give you a chance to practice using future perfect tense. Say your answers out loud, and if you're listening to this podcast on Youtube, leave your answers in the comments section below. Remember to use the future perfect.

Question number 1
By January 2023, how many years will you have had your current job?

Question number 2
What will you have completed by this time next week?

Thanks for tuning in to the Vita English Podcast. Tune in to the next episode of Language Stories to learn the final verb tense we'll be studying: future perfect progressive.
