Whew! Now the Commentary.

EZRA. William Fitzgerald is EZRA. EZRA is autistic. Bobby Cannovale (The Irishman, Boardwalk Empire, Blue Jasmine) is his Dad, Max and Robert DiNero is his Dad. Cameos from Whopie Goldberg, Raiin Wilson* and Vera Farminga. Ezra and Max, out of desperation, take off for California, with the cops, ex-wife and Dad all in hot pursuit. Solid (dis)functional family fun and a few golden moments, enough to rate an impressive 92% audience rating at RT. 1:40 and rated R.

GOONIES. Good, clean, Spielberg fun with Astoria, a young Samwise Gamgee and Josh Brolin as headliners. Directed by the grossly underrated Richard Donner. Forever etched in the collective consciousness as second only to The Princess Bride as all-time movies one can watch, re-watch and want to watch still again. Four days only, Fri thru Mon. 1:51, rated PG.

KINDS of KINDNESS. Greek Yargos Lathinmos, the mad genius behind lat year’s Oscar winning POOR THINGS, is back with more of his hyper-stylized chaotic day-glow nightmares. Synopsis: A man seeks to break free from his predetermined path, a cop questions his wife’s demeanor after her return from a supposed drowning and a woman searches for an extraordinary individual prophesied to become a renown spiritual guide. Woah Nelly! Stars Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons and Willem Dafoe. Better order a beer then buckle your seat belts.

ANOTHER MANS TREASURE. Island Treasure Steve Stollee’s take on the Bainbridge Island Rotary Club’s annual rummage sale extravaganza. Since 1960 they have been staging this local Fourth of July weekend institution, accurately labeled, ‘The biggest Rummage Sale in the World”, often grossing over a half-million dollars in support of local projects and philanthropic underwriting It is a must see for every person calling Bainbridge Island home. Friday night after the sneak preview at 8. A Q&A with the filmmaker will follow the free screening. 61 minutes, NR.

WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU? A short documentary about a pair of Bainbridge High School buddies, Tom Jorza and Sebastian Scales, now stand-up comedians exploring their trauma together. I know this premise sounds odd, but trust me, it works. The screening is free with a short live skit and a Q&A sessions to follow. Event is organized and sponsored by the What Happened to You Foundation. Saturday, July 6 @ 4.

Lastly, we are, unfortunately, looking for someone to replace the irreplaceable Cherry Jackson. Cherry’s daughter Lillian, now a senior, is incredibly talented. I have watched her learn the piano, yes the one in our lobby, and listen as she plays French Horn. She is an accomplished softball player and straight A student. She wants to go to Berkeley School of Music in Boston, so the challenge is to find a suitable replacement. If you, or someone you know, might be interested in further discussion, please stop by at your earliest convenience, or call me at 206.451.4336 for an appointment.

All for today folks, may July fourth be with you.

* That would be part-time Islander Rain Wilson.
